    If you've ever used the Pentax 67+ 105 combo, it's the closest you can get to that look. Although more limiting on the X2D due to lack of mechanical shutter, I do love the experience on GFX more .

      I have used that combo before and THAT is the look!

    I've never heard anyone on the Hasselblad x system rave about the Mitakon. However, I hear it constantly when it comes to the GFX system

    The GFX groups over on Facebook (fellow grandpa here) rave about the Mitakon. I've seen some truly spectacular work that honestly did have the medium look on lock. Especially full body portraits and just general isolation shots at distances where isolation isn't possible on FF without moving up to telephoto (latter kills the medium look imo). But I'm with you: it's just not pulling me off a more pleasant shooting experience. I picked up a 50/1.1 on my M and it's enough for me.

      Thanks for sharing. I'm sure on a GFX with an actual shutter, it's a better experience. An e-shutter with a manual lens on the XD2 is NOT fun at all. That said, the X2D with a V lens... now that's some magic. But it's not like medium format film.

    Hi Dave, an interesting experiment, mate! There are definitely differences, but as I always say in my videos: I personally prefer to choose the combo based on what I'm going to photograph with it. Big hiking tours in high-alpine altitudes can be quite heavy with medium format gear, for instance 😊
    But it was definitely an interesting comparison! Thank you for the video and nice greetings,
    Christian

    Fwiw, I’ve always felt like it’s closest to my work on 645 with an 80mm f/2. Not exactly as I believe a slightly wider FOV would match it better, but it’s close. I’ve used it for years and years on the GFX system and it matches that look pretty darn close.

      I think it would be better on a GFX. The X2D with manual is a hot mess with that e shutter.

    Funny you made this video because I bought this lens 2 weeks ago for my GFX. It the heaviest lens on earth, terrible shooting experience. But the results 🤩!

      On GFX I think it makes sense, given it has an actual shutter and you can use this lens a bit more practically. Makes no sense on the X2D.

    Overall the Hasselblad image has an edge of better separation than the m11, but it depends on what you are looking for. I like Leica more. Go Rams by the way. And I guess Damian Lillard missed that jumper.

    Very interesting video man! I think the Mitakon medium format images definitely have that extra something to them and having used the X2D I know those files are a dream to edit. But yeah I totally agree on the manual focus with an EVF, the experience of manually focusing on an m body is incredibly satisfying. Having used both systems I'd say image quality goes to the Hasselblad but user experience and versatility goes to the Leica for me. Obviously, it's all subjective and personal choice though!

      Well said! The XD2 is beautiful and the files are amazing. But manual experience… blehhh.

    Did you try the 55V and what was your experience then? Also comparing the colors from the two cameras What do you prefer more and why love your videos man.

      I did! Beautiful combo. Love the V lenses on the X2D. As for colors, the X2D was more yellow and the M11 more magenta. I liked the blues of the X2D and the greens of the M11. Either way, I’m editing.

    Please try to Hasselblad 55v lens with the X2D. I really like the image quality (it is really good) that I get with that, but I prefer the shooting experience of my M11-D and Summilux.

      @@davidherring It is, isn't it. I find it a bit annoying :D
      because I really love the shooting experience of my M, but the X2D/55V image quality is crazy good. But then the X2D shooting experience is like taking pictures with a computer. I really dislike EVFs.

    I used the Mitakon 65 1.4 on a GFX and made my best shots. But as an owner of a Summilux 50 i agree, that the look is very close.

    Yeah, X2D is not a good camera to adapt lenses to. Any GFX 100mp body would do a much better job for that specifically. But I moved away from that too. Native Hasselblad and Leica SL for adapting is where it is. (Not a rangefinder guy.)

    • @davidherring
      @davidherring  Місяць тому

      Native Hasselblad is amazing. Leica SL with native is amazing. Both win!

    • @TomSondergaardPhotography
      @TomSondergaardPhotography Місяць тому

      No hard feelings Dave ... it's just you make it sound like that the only camera that is good for manual focusing is a Leica M ... I have the Q3 and it works great on that as well. Tom

    • @davidherring
      @davidherring  Місяць тому

      I've used a lot of old film cameras that are only manual across many brands from Pentax, Minolta, Hasselblad, Rolleiflex, and of course, Leica. Manually focusing is what they were designed for. Put that into an EVF, and it feels foreign to me.

    • @TomSondergaardPhotography
      @TomSondergaardPhotography Місяць тому

      Okay thats cool ... I have had the same experience with cameras since the late 70s e and very pleased with the EVF I have on my Leica. But as you says ... it's a matter of opinion and how it feels ... and I respect that. Hope you'll have a good election over there and we are following it closely her i Denmark where I live, and hope the right women will win 😉
