    Unacceptable. The original Hasselblad company would NEVER have left you in such a predicament.
    "Hasselblad" in name only.

    This did not put me off from go for Hasselblad if I get the possibility to buy one. But I do think they should bring back the the ability to service lenses to Sweden. And also as alot of people have suggested, that in cases of services that drags out over a month, they should offer a loner or just change out the lens. The small cost for them to just change out the lens would be a win in customer happiness. Why not just have a change out system support. If it brakes within a year, just change out the lens. After the guarantee is out. Offer a service support fee, if they cant fix it within a week the service is free or get a refurbished like new lens back.

      Agreed on all points. I’m still going to be shooting Hasselblad; I love the cameras and lenses. But it would have been nice to have something to have as a temporary replacement during the repair time or something else to help support, which I think would be well within their ability to do.

    Thanks for the video. It’s always interesting to see how different manufacturers handle repairs. I’ll just say it could have been worse for you.
    I had a €4,500 Sony A7RV that had a defective touchscreen two months after purchase. The repair service diagnosed a non-existent water damage without even opening the camera and replaced a non-defective part that I then had to pay for-€350. They took almost three months to find the error and didn’t repair a front dial that was definitely broken as well.
    No apology, no loaner device, nothing.
    By far the worst repair service I’ve experienced across three camera brands. So if that’s all that happened with Hasselblad, I would definitely stick with them. :D

      Oof, I'm really sorry you had that experience. I'm not a huge Sony fan, but that's still surprising to hear. I'm really glad that I didn't have to pay anything throughout this process. Haha and yeah, as I said in the video, I'll still be sticking with Hasselblad. Love the cameras, and no brand is perfect.

    You are absolutely correct. Five months is not acceptable. I have the same setup. I have other cameras but I am at the point now where the other cameras, Leicas, are irrelevant. Your setup/my setup is a great setup. I understand your being wounded.
    BTW, Leica's service is also atrocious. I have had good luck with Sony.

      I was a Canon shooter before I got in to Hasselblad and if I was relying on my photography for my employment I’d definitely throw down some cash for a backup Canon setup just in case. But yeah I love the setup I have now and feel like I’ve gotten spoiled with Hasselblad’s image quality and design.

    I personally think they should have sent you a loaner lens. I work in video production and my aputure distributor gives me loaner demo units when one of my lights needs to go in for repair that takes over a month.
    But I haven’t had to send a piece of camera equipment in for a long duration.

    Years ago when I shot with Sony I had a 24-70 lens that after 3 months of ownership the focusing mechanism broke. As with your Hasselblad experience it was under warranty. Sony support was ok to work with but it took them two and a half months to get the lens back to me. Shortly after that I left Sony for Canon. It was not due to this but other reasons. I had the luck to be able to shoot with a Canon R6 for a few hours from someone that i knew. I love long exposure photography and the bulb timer built into the menu system is just perfect for that. So about 6 months later I made the switch. Back to why i posted this. Sony is a big brand as you mentioned but it took them for ever to get the lens back to me.

    Your experience was similar to mine. Nice communication with the US team but glacially slow service.
    My 35-75 was also sent to Japan. Twice because the first time the thing wasn't fixed. Basically, it was in Japan for about 14 months with both services and about 3 months between Hasselblad US and Sweden. The first time I was able to wrangle a 65mm F2.8 as a rental while my lens was on month 4 in Japan. Then the second time I sent it back, they said it was impossible to offer another rental.
    I'm not convinced that the repairs needed that much time. I simply think that the factory in Japan ignores it until the customer starts making a stink and Hasselblad Sweden starts poking at them. As with both times, my lens suddenly gets sent back very quickly when I start questioning them.

    • @PavornocPhotography
      @PavornocPhotography  13 днів тому

      Man, that's rough. On the one hand, it's good to know this wasn't a strange, isolated experience, but on the other I'm sorry that you had to go through all that. As I said, when we want to be using and enjoying these cameras, to have gear like that be gone for so long, it definitely hinders a photographer's ability to do.... photography.

      @@PavornocPhotography Yeah, it's pretty disappointing. Like you said in the video, for a "boutique" brand this is pretty unacceptable. I still like the Hasselblad stuff but... 8:42 Professionals taking paid gigs with that kind of gear can rent the gear they need for a shoot and bill the expense through to the client. And professionals who rely on this gear on a daily basis for project work will budget for redundancy in the gear they use - yes, that means two bodies and lens options to always have redundancy.

  • @davidmantripp
    @davidmantripp 13 днів тому +1

    They should have lent you a replacement, or even straight up replaced it. I had a similar experience over 20 years ago with a XPan 30mm lens, which eventually was not even resolved by Hasselblad, but by a combination of my local dealer, and Leica, who imported Hasselblad into my country at the time. Both were ashamed of the service I got from Hasselblad. I don’t think anybody knows for sure who manufactures the XCD-V series, but the original XCD series, and the XPan lenses, were manufactured by Nittoh. Seems their service team is one semi-retired guy and his dog.

      My money is on Panasonic; there's a Japanese engineer whose name is on the patents for a bunch of Leica stuff and is also on the patents for several Hasselblad lenses. To me, that makes them a likely candidate as production company engineers usually assist in product development these days.

    • @PavornocPhotography
      @PavornocPhotography  12 днів тому

      Yeah I would have preferred just a swap out while they fix the lens and maybe sell it as refurbished or something.
      I don't know exactly who makes the lenses; I know the sensors for the X2Ds are made by Sony and are the same in the Fujifilm GFX 100 series; the big difference between the looks of those sensors is Hasselblad's Natural Color Solution (HNCS). But for the lenses, yeah, not sure.

    The reason I didn’t buy a Hasselblad digital system is exactly for this reason, when I was using their H system, I often get error related to digital back and lens connection, Hasselblad’s electronic is not most reliable to be honest…. Their v system is mechanical and works reliably for pro work back in the days. Similar situation for Leica I have been using their gears since 2010, they are beautifully made but I have unfortunately used their repairs a few times, great customer service( used to be better now still good, but not as good as before), for Nikon I never have issue so far, I guess they are known for their reliability

    • @PavornocPhotography
      @PavornocPhotography  12 днів тому

      I think (in general) the focus of Leica and Hasselblad are different areas, but they both are top of their class. I get that smaller companies like that can’t necessarily have the same level of testing and electronics quality assurance as bigger brands, but it is still a disappointment when you spend so much on the gear and something goes wrong.

All the current generation of compatible lenses are in excess of $3000 (there are 2 older P lenses that come in for less than 2K) so it's not like you can just say, what the heck, I'll buy another lens just to have as a back up. 5 months is ages but Leica is about the same and they work on their own lenses. Re Hasselblad, there is a fundamental issue internally with their support being too separated from the part of their company that can lend out loaners. I think it's... unfortunate their lead time is so long, but with Hasselblad very visibly giving away so much stuff to youtubers (which I don't fundamentally have an issue with) they should probably have loaners for people who actually give them money. Especially because it sometimes feels like we're fighting over the scraps of small production runs on the lenses. Hasselblad used to be THE brand for professionals of a certain sort, I think they need to work on that a bit more. They're not going to steal the jewelry camera market from Leica so maybe let's focus on what is actually useful to the sort of personal, professional or otherwise, who is looking for a camera that produces the best possible output.

It is Chinese DJI and they ditched either cut down or ditches services in several countries, plus prices are too high for what you not get ! I used HASSELBLAD 6c6 Cameras in the 1980´s and 1990´s, back then you could trust the quality and the service was superb. Hello…
    Thank you for your video.
    I’m going through a similar situation but for a very different reason with the 55mm F/2.5 V lens.
    The lens cannot zone focus using DOF in full manual mode. Regardless of aperture setting the lens will render out of focus at infinity.
    I’m certain that many photographers don’t use zone focusing often or at all and tend to rely more on autofocus… which does work great.
    I believe that some or all of these lenses are either mis-calibrated or there is a design flaw in the manual focus mechanism. Two of these lenses on two different X2Ds have this issue.
    I have a case with Hasselblad open. The second lens tested was Hasselblad’s North American Sales Representative! He’s currently now on the case with Sweden.
    So if everyone with this lens could test their 55 V lenses using DOF markings and check the resultant focus at infinity it would be very interesting to see to what extent this is occurring.
