I’m having trouble with two of the five bolts. They’re super tight and I got fluid leaking.

@louiedee279 Maybe there is different way to do it, but this was the easiest way for my dad.

@@CountyAuto easier way is to go from the top.

Definitely way easier to go from the top but can also be done through the bottom like they did if you have a vehicle lift.

What kind of grease or lubricant do you use on both sides of the seal on the new pump?

I think that's gasketmaker if I'm not mistaking. It is not necessary, but my dad likes to use it as a safety prevention for "just in case".

Anything that drives water supply to an engine, I do not use any gasket maker material.
Depending on the platform, there are options outside of stock if stock is known to fail( usually due to design).
I used to work on high pressure pump systems and platform engines. Sometimes there is no avail gasket, sometimes you need to use gasket material to supplement. Always research in reputable places when doing anything outside of manufacturer recommendation.
The Jeep Patriot water pump does not need any supplementation to the standard gasket. Outside of standard mounting service(pitting), can deem supplementation though.
My sister has a caliber with over 350k and replaced it about the 200 mark.( same platform as Patriot, compass, and a few other Chrysler vehicles)
I'm just replacing my original pump because the gasket is slowly failing at about a drip every couple hours😂
      My 2cents if it counts

@tallpaul2558 I hear you on the gasket maker. The reason why my dad uses gasket maker as a "better safe then sorry" is because after market parts are garbage you can't bet your craftsmanship on. We don't sell parts and we only install parts our costumers bring and we only give warranty on work provided.... you'd be surprised how may times we tell ppl not to bother with cheap parts because of the failure rate of those parts and people don't listen to us and then little while after the repair oil or coolant is leaking again from the same spot. They come back upset and we tell them buy the premium part and if the problem is not fixed we'll reimburse you back for every penny you spent, but if the problem is fixed you're paying for labor again....we're yet to reimburse someone. Even "premium brands" are not what they used to be but are much better then cheap-o brands.

Better question is what year model is it? Pretty sure Patriots were made for several years.

What does a job like this cost?

It depends from region to region... I think my dad charged two hours shop flat rate.

Working on anything that's on the front of this engine, you're never going to get good lighting.😂
I've done quite a few part Replacements on the drive (pulleys, AC, alt), I just wish they gave us a couple more inches.
I'd be able to get my nice torque wrench in there.😂
