BROOO I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS INFORMATION FOR DAYS! LOOOOOVED YOUR VIDEOS. FINALLY, SO WELL EXPLAINED AND SHOWED . THANK YOU! (the caps is 'cause of the excitement)
@@KevinRossRN Hi I am using dynamic mics too but I am still behind on how you process your voice to achieve the voice I am hearing now. Thanks for the informative instructional video! Very helpful for me!!! Additional detailed info in the description was also really helpful for me. Thanks!!
Just got a ipad a few months ago. Connected a arturia minifuse 2 to it and it works well. I mainly use it to practice guitar with backing tracks. Planning to buy a few mics to start a mobile podcast. I didn't want to go out and buy a rodecaster or anything like that when I got the ipad.
It's amazing how confusing this is. Can someone please help me to understand what kind of microphones he recommends, and what kind of audio interface is needed...in order to use multiple microphones....4-5.... Thank s so much
Had to leave a comment; THANK YOU for this video. You’ve saved me from hours of pulling out my hair. I did exactly as you shown and I finally got my two mic set up to work on my iPad Pro after I tried everything. I almost gave up until I came across this video. 🎉
@@KevinRossRN Follow up question: I have the M-Audio Duo (similar to the audio interface you have here). Is there any way to add a THIRD mic to this iPad set up? Or do I need to upgrade to an audio interface with three XLR inputs? Thanks!!
I’m not sure if that interface would work this way but have you looked into a XLR cable splitter? Two mics into one channel, however in post you’re likely going to have to split those out because they record right and left if I’m not mistaken. But, will also still be on the same track.
Great video! This setup has inspired me and I just ordered the Motu M2 to replace my larger mixer / interface. Got some mic stands and a carrying case and I now have a fully portable setup with the new 12.9inch iPad Pro coming in a couple weeks! Super pumped to try this out for on the go podcasting. Hopefully the Motu M2 can provide enough gain for my SM57 mics!
That’s great! And yes, that MOTU should be just fine on those mics. I find that the MOTU seems to have a bit more “push” when compared to the Scarlett. I’ll definitely be right there with you reviewing this with the new iPad Pro. Congrats on both BTW.
@@KevinRossRN Awesome, good to hear. I have also heard that other places so glad to have it confirmed. Hope you enjoy the new iPad as well! Look forward to hearing your review!
Great video! I subscribed after watching. Quick question - could I just run a few USB mics to the iPad through an adapter rather than using the interface? What's the benefit of the interface?
The interface splits out the tracks. Plugging in multiple mics at one may or may not work. Just depends on the mic. The built in audio of the iPad may default to one or the other. But at the very least if both mics fire up, they’ll be on the same track.
Thank you for this I was wondering why my lav mic was sounding so bad in garage band but I didnt realize there was the narrator default you could use 🤙🏿
Thanks for your help in helping me remember the 1990s switcher technology that I once used in the 1990s. But I am also curious about one particular American component used by hard drive cloners. In my country's government they do not want us civilians to use their scan-copy-transfer (SCT IC Chip) IC chip which can scan incoming computer input, make multiple copies of it, and transfer one of each of these multiple copies to 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 individual CPUs that will process the WHOLE information and then they use an another component that receives the processed information and compare all of the results and once all are cross-referenced and are the same they are then combined as one information output which is then displayed on one or more computer monitor display. Does your American hard drive cloners can do the same? And what is the key component in your hard drive cloners that can make multiple duplicate copies of the 1st primary hard drives and then transfers those multiple duplicate copies to several tens of dozens of hard drives? Can you and somebody or anybody help me please? Maybe, just maybe that key critical component of your American hard drive cloners can do the same function as my country's government's (SCT IC Chip) Scan - Copy - Transfer IC Chip.
I wasn’t sure if the iPad would work for this but needed the portability of a MacBook but couldn’t afford one. I’ll have to take one for a spin and see if it works.
Thank you for your video. I am following your steps - step by step. I purchased the Motu M2. I got to 14:42 and went to tap the red button for microphone 2 and I get a pop up that states " Input Channel in Use. The input channel chosen is already in use by another track. To record on this track, choose an unused channel." Appreciate your help as I am stuck. Thank you
So a couple of questions to ask. You have multitrack recording toggled on? Just wanted to double check. When you add your additional microphone in GarageBand, you select input 2? And then I also wanted to ask about the switches on your audio interface, are they switched to mono, or are those switched off?
Very cool stuff. I had no idea that Garage Band could be so useful. Always wondered how a podcast was made - and now I wonder how you include call in guests, and how you upload the whole project to wherever it is that people can listen.
@@KevinRossRN thank you! I'm looking to start podcasting, unsure about what equipment to buy. Research is swaying me toward the scarlet 2i2 and AKG p120 mics to begin with. Do you have any reservations about either of these or suggestions for similar/better quality at that price range? I would appreciate any info you would offer, even if it's just direction to one or two of your videos I may have overlooked. Thank you again! Keep up the good work.
For a “budget” level mic setup, I think it’s great. And the 2i2 is also great. These two interfaces are both very good in my option. I only went the MOTU route because I wanted to go against the grain a bit and ended up finding it to be what was looking for. Have you looked into handheld recorders at all?
@@KevinRossRN I have not. Would a handheld recorder carry comparable audio quality at a similar price? I have so much to learn hahaha. It's so difficult to make a decision to start off
Yes, and with the handheld you can record directly into that device, the tracks will be split into individual ones (if you had multiple hosts), and then it gets recorded onto a SD card that you can transfer those files to your computer to edit later. A handheld recorder can also act as an audio interface as well. You can connect it directly to a computer just like the audio interface in this video. Didn’t mean to confuse you. There are a lot of options. I will say though that a handheld recorder or audio interface will give you more options to grow. But certainly don’t blow out your budget.
@@KevinRossRN Thank YOU for your time sir! I’ve asked another question and I would be delighted to get an answer for that too. Thank you for your time once again. :)
Wow, what a great and useful video! I’m preparing to do exactly this with my new iPad Pro (2021). Any recommendations for an audio interface that has three mic inputs?
Thanks! As far as three, you may find yourself looking at a four channel input. They’re usually in pairs like this (typically that is). MOTU has some additional options and Scarlett also has the 18i8 that will have four XLR inputs. The handheld recorder that I also use is the Zoom H6. Should be linked below, but that can act as an audio interface or you can record directly into it. There’s also this device: amzn.to/3xZZvvf And again you can record directly into it if you want and then take those split tracks from the device and bring it into the editor. Congrats on the iPad Pro. Looking forward to reviewing this iPad when it comes in.
Once you select record on your audio and the video, clap 3-2-1. And then when you bring your audio and video together you will look at the spikes in the audio clips from the clapping and just drag those clips to match, then cut that part out and boom, you should be synced.
I would recommend just recording separately with the camera. Then, you’d take the audio tracks from the iPad and the video from the camera and drop all of those into a video editor. You’d remove the audio from the camera because the built in mic isn’t going to sound good at all, but it’s great to use it as a reference for the better quality you’re getting from the interface and iPad. Hopefully that makes sense.
My hubby and I are getting ready to set up our podcasts thanks to you. One question… I ordered the blue yeti mic ( 2 of them) my hubby is my co host, I was wondering is this mic good for the interface ?? I ordered based of of your other tutorial, not realizing it was for a single host based platform. Please advise if the blue yeti will work with interface in this video
Congrats on the podcast. So the Blue Yeti, if it’s the exact one I recommended from another video would actually not be compatible with an interface without a workaround. These interfaces are XLR compatible, so the mics in this video have USB and XLR options whereas the Yeti is just USB and plugs directly into the computer. To make this work you’d need a series of workarounds by getting a USB to male XLR adapter, and then there would be a mini USB adapter for the mic since the Yeti doesn’t have a full Sized USB port going into the mic. And honestly, the more connections, the more points of failure.
Thank you so much, So appreciate your help. I was able to cancel my order just in time. I will purchase the mic listed in this video. Thanks again for what you do.👍🏾
Sure thing. And yes, any XLR mic will work, but I do like the ATR 2100 because of its versatility. The Samson Q2U is also a great choice. Anyway, glad you were able to cancel your order in time. Sending my best.
I don’t think it’s possible but you can record one person on 1 iPad or phone, and other person on the other iPad or phone then merge the audio together after.
Thanks for popping in on this one. Must have missed this comment. And agree that another iPad or even and iPhone to record the audio tracks and then bring them together in post. There are workarounds, but would require additional equipment.
Thanks! I’ll actually have to go back in my archives to find the song. I’ll try to circle back on that, but I typically use epidemic sound for all of my tracks.
This was an awesome video! This gave me a lot of direction on how to make our dream come true! So, in recording, it will only let me record under 2 minutes. I am trying to trouble shoot, but I cannot figure it out! Any tips?
@@KevinRossRN Yes, I did that. For some reason, when I plug in the microphone, it won't let me record more than a minute and 30 seconds. I bought one of those usb to IPAD adapters off Amazon to attach our microphones to and for some reason, even when I do all of those things, such as automatic, changing how many bars I have, going deep into the iPad settings to turn on the automatic setting, it still stops my recording after about 1:30.
Thanks! So to clarify, you have your mics connected via an audio interface and then connected to the iPad? If so, what is the equipment you have in your workflow?
Great video. You have really helped me a lot with this. I’m assuming if I have a Focusrite I can use my mic input one and run an XLR in the second input to a 1/4 inch-3.5-lightning dongle to multi track my mic output and the iPhone audio. I’m trying to achieve the ability to play UA-cam clip audio and sound board app on my phone. Hope that makes sense
So to clarify, you want to have a mic for input one, and then the phone connected as input 2, but really it’s just to play UA-cam clips as part of the podcast/audio project? If that’s the case, then yes.
Great video my friend. This is what teaching done right looks like. The concept of having someone test this in a proper way and explaining in great detail is awesome! This video i am sure will help a bunch of people.
Thanks Kim! As I was telling someone else yesterday, I start to see an increase in interest with podcasting around this time of year. So, I like to freshen up a few of my previous videos to address a few changes in the tech, but it seems to not really change that much 😉 Either way, podcasting continues to grow year over year 🤷♂️
Hey Kevin great video man thanks But I have one question if you record podcast and also record a video as well of our self and we using camera so we just put this audio on to that video ??
Hey Kevin, love the video! Was just wondering since I have two atr2100x mics if they will work with this set up since it seems that the only way they are able to be powered on is with both usb-c and xlr plugged in.
Alright you beautiful humans. This is another long one, but timestamps are available so you can find what you’re looking for. This setup will work with an iPad, iPhone, and yes, even a computer. I’ll be following up with another video featuring this setup on a computer while also showing you an updated version of how to work with remote hosts and guests. You can find me here or on Twitter.
Hello, Great video! I am wondering though if I bought all these items that are recommended (which I did) and tried to plug into our students iPad Pros (they are about 5 years old but running iOS 14) why I can't seem to get the M2 to power up, using the camera adapter and plugged into a wall outlet. I can power it up with my Macbook Air. Thanks this video was super helpful for me!!
@@KevinRossRN Yes however it just blinks like its going to power on. I am going to try a new charge cord for wall and see if that helps. I also have an iPhone 11 just in case that rules anything out.
Hi Kevin, my IPad has a lightning input. Will this work with an apdapter? I own an M4 and it works on my Mac Mini. Instructions are quite clear. Well done.
Where can I find the video that you showed for example recording straight onto a phone as well as the video you go over having two people not in the same space?
The smartphone one is here: ua-cam.com/video/i8vXujZrY9Q/v-deo.htmlsi=qy22a-X4-5BNUtTK And the remote hosts and guests one is here: ua-cam.com/video/02rJZ-iwxkI/v-deo.htmlsi=htmEMPJqEkhPjK9x 👆This one is an older video and there are other options, but I still use this set up with many of my remote recordings.
I love your content on podcasts. I’m trying to start a podcast and I’m using a maonocaster lite interface. I’m having trouble connecting the second mic. It came with one and my second is a usb mic which I need an usb to 3.5 jack, can you give any advice? Thanks Jose
I’d have to look into this further but I believe this particular interface is combining those two tracks into one. Again, I’d have to research this further to give you a more definitive answer.
Hey Kevin! LOVED the video. As someone who is looking to start a podcast, this is right up my alley as already have a lot of this equipment. My questions are this: How much storage does say an hour or two hour podcast take up on the iPad? I have a 7th Gen iPad, should i get the Pro and do i REALLY need to get a Pro for this or will a regular iPad work just fine? Thanks in advance!!!
Hey, happy to help. So as far as the space is concerned, you should be fine. .wav files for a 1 hour podcast with two tracks will usually range from as low as 1 and up to 6 GBs depending how much you’re adding as far as tracks or other audio. You can also compress that file down to less than 1GB, but that of course gets spun down to a much smaller .mp3 when you share it.
Yeah, just make sure you have that lightening adapter that you can also plug in. The iPad should power it with out the plug in option, but just in case. If I can run this thing on an iPhone, you should be just fine.
You are awesome, thank you for the detailed explanation. So I'm trying to build a video podcasting setup using android phone using the normal camera app, and I need to connect two mics, will Motu work for this purpose? At the end I will not be doing audio post production, I need the motu to combine the two audio channels as if I'm connecting one mic
Yeah the MOTU can either separate the tracks or just be setup to record on one. So the two mics can be separate (physically) and then you can just have the audio in one track. If that makes sense.
What do you think of this product for my case? Rode AI-micro, again, I'm building a video podcasting setup using an android phone, and I'm not looking to have a separate audio channel for each mic. Thank you!
Great explanation dude. It caught my attention that you are using Zoom H6 as well. Can it also do multi-track recording in an iPad/ iPhone? I’m a musician. Planning to hook 2 XLR dynamic mics, 1 guitar, 1 keyboard. I need at least 4 ports recording simultaneously. If you have other suggestions with this setup, it would be a great help to me. Thanks a lot man. All the best.
Thanks! And yeah, you can use that H6 as an interface just as you would on a computer. I should do a video on that, but I did test hooking up multiple inputs in GarageBand with the H6.
I have a 12.9inch Ipad pro, and Ive got a recording and I’m trying to share it but when I tap on share it wont let me share it as a song that doesnt come up as a option? Any help?
I believe the iPad OS updates tend to move things around. Try this: Open up your GarageBand folder where the project is. You’ll see your GB projects in there all together. Look up in the top right corner under the battery status where it says Select. Select, then toggle on the radio button of the file you’re working with. Then, once toggled/selected with a check box... Go down to the bottom left and click share. Share Song should pop up.
Just saw a lower comment, I am indeed rocking he iPad Air Gen4? LOL. Will it not work with this IPAD? I do have the Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter in the link you commented to.
So you are rocking with the iPad Air Gen4? The Apple lightning adapter would only work with the iPad that has the lightening port, but just wanted to clarify your particular device.
@@KevinRossRN Thanks for the quick reply! I actually bought a USB 3.0 adapter so I can power on the M2 now. The mic is working an everything but how do I hear myself now? lol Do I need to change the output of for the audio?
So I know I am late to this. I am BRAND new. My current equipment, which I kind of purchased blindly is. . . A Yeti USB mic, a FIFINE Lav set up, Ipad Pro (Newest Model) and a HyperDrive 6 in 1. . . Here is my question. Before I put out more money for the M2 (Which I would have no problem doing eventually) and the type of Mics which will fit into it, can I make my current set up work? Or is there any other work arounds you can point me towards? Thank you for the video, first time watching, this is going to be a big help either way.
@@KevinRossRN so the main mic is a yeti blue. The secondary would be the Fifine Lav set up which would be the headphone jack receiver attachment (if I am explaining it right). So since the hyper drive 6 in 1 has USB and traditional inputs. I was hoping I'd be able to use the two types. Again, I apologize of I'm not articulating it properly. Thanks for the reply.
So the 6 in 1 wouldn’t likely help you in this particular situation as far as connecting multiple mics to the iPad. So based on my experience and the specs with an iPad, you’re really dealing with 1 native input here, which is the need for the interface to carry that task for you. Working with what you already have, I’d recommend connecting 1 mic to the iPad and then connecting the other to a phone. Record those tracks separately on each device, and then being the phone track into GarageBand on the iPad for editing. If you have an iPhone then you can just save that to iCloud or just airdrop it to the iPad. The interface is really the “magic” in these setups, but again, trying to not spend more money, except if you need an adapter for the phone, but recording those separately and then bringing them together in post may be the option here. Otherwise it would be setting the Yeti up on a table and using the bi-directional functionality for both individuals.
@@KevinRossRN Once again, your information has been very helpful. I ended up splitting the difference, spent a little more and hopefully got a descent setup to get started. I got two sets of the zoom mic and headphone sets. As well as their P4 podtrak to run it all. So fingers crossed I will be able to figure it out. If you have any input or cautions, I more than welcome it. Thank you again
Hello thank you for your video,it's great! i was searching informations about motu and the compatibility with an ipad pro usb-c . Do you know if it s possible to plug the motu to the ipad directly with a usb-c/usb-c cable ? Or do i need absolutely a powered hub ?
For the iPad Pro and Air, those will power it, however as you’ll find here in the comments that the iPad (lightning port) has typically required that adapter.
Quick question. You mention you can monitor sound from Interface or 2 headphones using splitter. If you plug headphones into interface, can you no longer monitor with headphones by plugging into microphone directly.
You can monitor through the mic, which would still be fine. I’ve just (personally) preferred monitoring through the interface since the preamp in there is a bit more “robust” than going through the mic. But if you need that then the mic should supply that output rather than splitting through the headphone out on the interface.
Amazing video, I was wondering how what mixer I might use if I want 3 separate tracks with Garage band. Does it have to be a multi channel interface and also what Mixer might you suggest. I’m about to start a podcast for 3 people and having issues making separate tracks for us. Thank you
Well, if you want to split all three tracks out separately then you’d need a four channel interface because they tend to come in either 1 input, 2, 4, or 8. The interface brands in the description are great quality and you’d just need the 4 input version. Behring we also makes a decent interface. But yes, multichannel is what splits out the tracks for you like this. Otherwise you could go with something like this amzn.to/2OXvDNZ Which is a stand alone device that you record into, which is saved on an SD card. It splits the tracks out.
@@KevinRossRN so I got a zoom h6, two xlr mics. Have an iPad Pro that I’ll use garage band for and a iPhone pro that I’ll record video with to start. I just didn’t know how to make the video and audio all connected without perfectly timing them together on a editing software
I’ve done a couple of videos on this. But what I would do is eliminate the iPad from the mix. Use the H6 as a handheld recorder (it really is an awesome piece of equipment). Then just record your video with the iPhone. Then, take the video clip from the iPhone and the audio you recorded from the H6 and sync them up in a video editor. So, just as you’re getting ready to record, turn on the camera and hit record, turn on the H6 and hit record. Count down 3-2-1 and then clap. This will create a spike in the audio waveform on the iPhone’s footage and the H6 audio clip. Sync up those waveforms manually in the editor and you should be good to continue to edit from there.
Hello Kevin, I have a small question. I own a Q2U and am dying to know if I will be able to get a clear sound (in terms of white noise and hiss etc) as much as your guest if I get that MOTU interface? Or did you do some sort of thing in post? If yes, may I ask what you did? Thank you in advance. Enjoyed the video.
Have you plugged it into a computer or iPad via USB and heard the noise? Just curious. As far as the mics I tested here, they’re very similar to the Q2U and I will say that as long as you’re using a decent XLR cable then plugging this into an interface will help. I like the functionality of USB however I’ve always had a better experience with the XLR connection. I didn’t do anything in post except add a compressor. However, if you have some room noise or want to isolate (clean up) your voice you could add a high pass filter (80Hz).
Are you recording with an iPad or computer? And, are you referring to the settings to use as far as when you’re editing? I will say that your microphone, breathing technique and especially the environment you’re recording in will make a difference.
@Jay-eg8md well, there is definitely going to be some experimenting here. Once you’ve gotten a decent mic then it’s mainly going to making sure you’ve got the right levels…not too low and definitely not too “hot” where you’re clipping your audio. Post production is where it all happens and I can say that it’ll depend on the voice. I was doing a podcast with three of us and I had to edit a little bit on my track, my other (male) cohost needed some more tweaking, but the female host on the show didn’t need anything. I didn’t touch her voice. Because of her mic and her vocal pitch, it was near perfect.

If you pick up the 4 channel interface then it should work.
thanks for this clear and precious tutorial .
My pleasure. Thanks for your time.
I’ve watched hours of videos and tNice tutorials one is the first that explains it in a way a complete beginner could understand! Great video
Just glad that I was able to help. Hope all goes well on your setup. 🎤🎧
Super helpful video! Thanks for creating such an easy how-to tutorial!!
My pleasure. Great to have you here.
Great video! I bought the M1 iPad Pro for this reason.
It’s a fantastic little setup. Best of luck with your endeavor.
Awesome Video, Happy New Year!!! I am Loving my new Ipad and the M1 mac mini, i am enjoying them both daily!!
Yes! I love to hear it. I’m about to jump on some COD on the iPad right now...well, as soon as I’m done typing this 😁
Wow… simply amazing video. You just saved me so much grief. I will try all now. Thank you so much. You are incredible.
Thank you so much friend. Sending my best.
Excited for both of us and I’ll definitely see you when those videos post 😉
Great video! I subscribed after watching. Quick question - could I just run a few USB mics to the iPad through an adapter rather than using the interface? What's the benefit of the interface?
The interface splits out the tracks. Plugging in multiple mics at one may or may not work. Just depends on the mic. The built in audio of the iPad may default to one or the other. But at the very least if both mics fire up, they’ll be on the same track.
Thank you for this I was wondering why my lav mic was sounding so bad in garage band but I didnt realize there was the narrator default you could use 🤙🏿
There you go. Glad to help.
I landed here because your videos are great!
Well alright! So glad you found a little "home" here. Happy to help and appreciate you dropping by.
Perfect! Thanks Kevin.
And thank you for your time here. Sending my best to you on getting things dialed in. 🤘
Yep. Sometimes it’s the only (or best) computer someone may have, so I wanted to test it for myself.
Best of luck.
Well done Sir, an excellent example well executed. Thank you.
And thank you for your time here. 🤘
Excellent tutorial
Thanks so much. Sending you my best on how you get things set up on your end. 🎙🎧

Appreciate you. Glad to have you here.
This is amazing video with a lot of great helpful works very you.
Glad that it helped. Sending my best to you on your future setup.
Hey! Very informative and appreciated.
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks for the tutorial
You bet. Thanks for hanging out.
Very imformative vid. Thank you
My pleasure. Really glad to help.
Really enjoying your videos and the excellent information. Got yourself a new subber Kevin. Thanks.
Hey Paul. Really appreciate that, and super glad to have you around here.
Very cool stuff. I had no idea that Garage Band could be so useful. Always wondered how a podcast was made - and now I wonder how you include call in guests, and how you upload the whole project to wherever it is that people can listen.
I’ve done quite a few videos on this topic. Podcasted for years. It’s a much easier point of entry than you might think.
@@KevinRossRN Thanks, I will take a look through your library...
Best of luck on your journey friend 😀
You are a great teacher! Clear cut, graspable information with a professional presentation.
Thanks. Hope you find success with your endeavor.
Thanks for thee aiding&abetting
Ha! Happy to help.
It's exactly what I was looking for thank you so much
My pleasure. Thank you.
Excellent video bro!
Appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
20:20 That’s how I fix that too. I was excited to see something new but it’s also cool to be approved :D
It is nice to get a little validation on a fix. Great to have you here. Appreciate your time.
There’s also this device: amzn.to/3xZZvvf
And again you can record directly into it if you want and then take those split tracks from the device and bring it into the editor.
Congrats on the iPad Pro. Looking forward to reviewing this iPad when it comes in.
@@KevinRossRN Great, I’ll look at those options. New subscriber here.
Happy to have you on board. 👊🤙

Only for today. 😎
Aaaah iPhone too! Exciting 🎉
Yes indeed. 🤘
This is the best video I seen! Thanks!
And your comment is the best I’ve seen today. But I won’t tell anyone 🤫
Glad you found it helpful, friend. 👊
ok, great video ! I get the audio part fine- how do I match the video to sync with the recorded audio?
Once you select record on your audio and the video, clap 3-2-1. And then when you bring your audio and video together you will look at the spikes in the audio clips from the clapping and just drag those clips to match, then cut that part out and boom, you should be synced.
This is helpful thank you. I’d this is how we are recording audio with a usb mic and iPad how does the camera tie into or connect to all of this?
I would recommend just recording separately with the camera. Then, you’d take the audio tracks from the iPad and the video from the camera and drop all of those into a video editor.
You’d remove the audio from the camera because the built in mic isn’t going to sound good at all, but it’s great to use it as a reference for the better quality you’re getting from the interface and iPad.
Hopefully that makes sense.
Aright boys, I’m ready!
You are!? Well alright then.
This was an awesome video for sure. I learned so much in a small amount of time.
Really glad to have you here.
I have a question for anyone, how do you do a podcast on an iPad using two USB mics? Thanks
I would actually listen to Popculture Podcast of this kid
Guess it might be time to start a new show 😎
Great video and exactly what I was looking for! Did you ever get around to doing the video on podcasting with two guests in different locations?
Thanks! You mean as far as podcasting with two remote guests using the iPad, or podcasting with remote guests using a computer?
Hey Kevin, thanks so much for this!! Very very helpful!
Also, what's the outro song at the end? I really like it
Any tips?
Thanks.
Go to the timeline, click the plus sign in the right corner, the bars option will pop up, then check automatic.
Click on the gear toward the upper right, then advanced…are you in multi-track recording?
Wohoo I got them!! Thanks so much
You did? Well alrighty then.
Great video! One problem is that the mic channel button on my iPad is still greyed out. Anyone knows how to fix that?
Thanks! So to clarify, you have your mics connected via an audio interface and then connected to the iPad? If so, what is the equipment you have in your workflow?
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for being here.
@@KevinRossRN nail on the head
There you go. 🔨

So, I like to freshen up a few of my previous videos to address a few changes in the tech, but it seems to not really change that much 😉
Either way, podcasting continues to grow year over year 🤷♂️
Hey Kevin great video man thanks
But I have one question if you record podcast and also record a video as well of our self and we using camera so we just put this audio on to that video ??
Correct. You would sync those up in post. I know I’ve done a video on this very thing. I just have to find it 🤣
Great video very helpful
Thanks! Glad to be of service.
Great video. This is a cool setup. :)
Thanks! I’ve appreciated having another way to record.
Hey Kevin, love the video! Was just wondering since I have two atr2100x mics if they will work with this set up since it seems that the only way they are able to be powered on is with both usb-c and xlr plugged in.
Hey thanks! So you should be able to run this via XLR into the interface with any USB-C involvement. The interface is what powers them.
Thank you!
You bet. Good luck.
Awesome information. 👍👍
Thanks! Glad it helped.
Well let’s work our way through this.
So, are you able to connect it to your iPhone (if you have one) with the camera adapter?
@@KevinRossRN Yes however it just blinks like its going to power on. I am going to try a new charge cord for wall and see if that helps. I also have an iPhone 11 just in case that rules anything out.
So, I just tried it on the 12 mini, the SE 2, and the 11. Like literally just now.
Okay, so is this the Apple lightning/camera adapter or third party?
@@KevinRossRN This is the one that you recommended and it is an Apple Lighting ti USB 3 adapter.
Hi Kevin, my IPad has a lightning input. Will this work with an apdapter? I own an M4 and it works on my Mac Mini. Instructions are quite clear. Well done.
Thanks! So with the adapter, you should be able to get this to work. I connected it to my iPhone to test it.
Where can I find the video that you showed for example recording straight onto a phone as well as the video you go over having two people not in the same space?
The smartphone one is here: ua-cam.com/video/i8vXujZrY9Q/v-deo.htmlsi=qy22a-X4-5BNUtTK
And the remote hosts and guests one is here: ua-cam.com/video/02rJZ-iwxkI/v-deo.htmlsi=htmEMPJqEkhPjK9x
👆This one is an older video and there are other options, but I still use this set up with many of my remote recordings.
I love your content on podcasts. I’m trying to start a podcast and I’m using a maonocaster lite interface. I’m having trouble connecting the second mic. It came with one and my second is a usb mic which I need an usb to 3.5 jack, can you give any advice?
Thanks
Jose
I’d have to look into this further but I believe this particular interface is combining those two tracks into one.
Again, I’d have to research this further to give you a more definitive answer.
@@KevinRossRN Thanks so much for taking out the time I appreciate it and any further input would be greatly appreciated!
@@KevinRossRN Awesome. Thanks. And as for iPad 7th Gen vs. iPad Pro? You think I'll be fine rocking the 7th Gen?
@@KevinRossRN Thank you! Does it work with an android phone?
What do you think of this product for my case? Rode AI-micro, again, I'm building a video podcasting setup using an android phone, and I'm not looking to have a separate audio channel for each mic.
Thank you!
Yep. I’ve tested this with Android as well.
You should be good to go with that hardware on Android. The audio interface is a great investment for many workflows that you may come across.
could i use in ear monitors instead of studio headphones? please respond
Whatever fits your workflow, yes.
Try this:
Open up your GarageBand folder where the project is.
You’ll see your GB projects in there all together.
Look up in the top right corner under the battery status where it says Select.
Select, then toggle on the radio button of the file you’re working with.
Then, once toggled/selected with a check box...
Go down to the bottom left and click share.
Share Song should pop up.
@@KevinRossRN That unfortunately didnt work either. Im on ios 14.4
@@KevinRossRN I figured it out I think i wasnt saving it with the little paper icon in the top left before I hit the share button.
So you got it to work?
@@KevinRossRN Yup all set!
Such a great video man. Thank you so much
You got it. 🤙
And thank you 👊
worked for me on my motorolla
It did? That’s great!
This is such a great video!! When I connect my M2 to the IPAD it does not power up? Any reason why?
Great! Did you push the monitor button on the M2 and then plug in headphones for the monitor jack on the right side?
@@KevinRossRN Lmao yes that did it... thank you good sir!!
Good to see you here. So to clarify, are you wanting to connect multiple USB mics to the iPad Pro?
So basically you’re just recording into the Podtrak and then bypassing the iPad, or are you using the Podtrak as an interface connected to the iPad?
You record the audio and video separately then edit together?
Exactly right. 👍

Otherwise you could go with something like this amzn.to/2OXvDNZ
Which is a stand alone device that you record into, which is saved on an SD card. It splits the tracks out.
@@KevinRossRN Thank you very much Kevin.
Yep. You bet.
I’m trying to learn how to connect the video to the audio. Using my iPhone as the camera and the iPad as the audio interface
And you have an audio interface?
@@KevinRossRN now I’m subscribing. Thank you for your help boss
Glad to have you here. Sending my best.
Hello Kevin,
I have a small question.
@@KevinRossRN Thank you so much for your answer! Yes, I use the mic with an iPad Pro 2020 via USB.
Gotcha. Well you may notice that the sound isn’t as “clean” when compared to the XLR connection.

Oh yeah. I did a video on recording the audio track and video separately. You could certainly do that and sync those in post.
What settings would you recommend for podcasting...? I would like to get the best that GarageBand has to offer. Thanks 🙏🏾
Are you recording with an iPad or computer? And, are you referring to the settings to use as far as when you’re editing?
I will say that your microphone, breathing technique and especially the environment you’re recording in will make a difference.
@@KevinRossRNon iPad, using audio interface.. but was wondering if there is a setting to get the best podcast vocals... Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
