When I was younger I would lay on the floor of our tv room and listen to this song, imagining what it would look like if it was a Broadway show and now here we are! I really hope I can see this show soon in person, from everything I’ve seen it’s just as magical as I could have hoped for.
I'm sure that these days, for anything live that has to be in sync with recorded materials (whether sound or video), there's a click track. Basically, the conductor (or maybe also musicians) are listening to a metronome to tell them how fast they are supposed to play. As long as Christy is in sync with the orchestra, she will be in sync with the video.
Awwwwww she was obviously a bit sick, and yet it's still such a good performance💕 And the journey to the past is the movie version, so she had to sing a bit faster and adjust to the different layout. UGH I LOVE HER SO MUCH
I am really glad you noticed she is sick too. Earlier today someone on the FB page made a rude comment on this performance. ugh. She is only sick, that is all. Still, this performance is top notch as always. I hope she recovers soon. Poor Christy.
Kelsie Anderson that's true, but it's really easy to make different phrasing or breathing choices even in the same song, so the fact that she synced so closely is really impressive! :D
Well, she's just in sync with the music like any singer would be. The og music is synced with the animation. Although the performance is really impressive, synchronizing the music with the video was the easiest thing of it all
@@ellesbelles64 on that same note, Christy is a fan of Anastasia, so she probably grew up singing along to this exact version of the song and therefore is familiar and comfortable with the original phrasing and breathing choices.
As a child I dreamed of this show, I would run around in my moms prom dress singing journey to the past- and its a role I plan on achieving one day! This is such a special show. Christy is a Powerhouse- i'm so proud of her, and I aspire to be at her level one day! (p.s I would LOVE a "Journey to the Past" cover competition or something... that would be so fun.)
ThespianPeacock LMAO WAIT SAME HAHAHA I used to wear all the fancy dresses my mom had in layers and swoosh around singing this in the family room 😂😂😂 Dream role as well, though being half asian and not looking russian won't help my case LOL
Kaila Karns really? Awesome!! Anything is possible- i'm sure you could easily be Anya! I'm sure its the spirit of Anya they are looking for whilst casting- not the skin tone!
She held it so well together, she must be either a little under the weather or overworked vocally. The holidays usually demand a lot of performers because so many flood in to see THE original lead. So from Thanksgiving to Christmas they seldom get a break. Granted maybe one or two days a week an understudy might cover at the most but most leads try to tough it out and also push their vocal chords. That's why in January you're more likely to see an understudy performance. Everyone's recovering.
I've never felt so nostalgic. And I just watched this movie recently. This was amazing. So glad you shared it. Also now I feel old since the movie has turned 20 and I remember it was one of the best times going to it in theaters. I was 7..... time flys
I'm really happy about this show! I had never wonder that Anastasia could be on Broadway, but here we are. With this beautiful voice, there isn't no better way to say happy birthday to this amazing movie.
I wish my Babcia (Polish for grandma) was still alive. I remember going to the movie theater with her and my dad to watch Anastasia, we were so in love with the story. Sharing the musical with her would have been amazing!

She's amazing and so talented, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hear some wear and tear in her voice in this... I hope they aren't working her too hard on top of doing the show too.
This song with a melody composer by Stephen Flaherty is literally the best animation song ever..what distinguishes this song from others is that from the very first word there is a constant melody going on with each note not just a melody at the crescendo at the end. It differs from the popular Frozen song where the first 7 lines really have no melody it's like Anna is just talking to you and then at some point a melody and crescendo start What Mr. Flaherty has achieved in having every word and sentence have a melody is genius.
Christy Altomare never ceases to amaze. She not only have an amazing rendition of journey to the past but it was also right in sync with the movie version. That's incredible 😍😍
There are times in our lives we are filled with too much happiness that all we can do is cry. I haven't seen the musical, only these videos posted in this channel. I cry everytime. Seeing a performance directly from their stage, I'm grateful, I am crying again 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Talk about an actress who KNEW how lucky she was and relished in the amazing journey of playing Anastasia. She is absolutely wonderful and when I met her out of town, I could see how humbled she was.

Anastasia has been my most favorite movie for such a long time and when I heard they had a musical I loved it 10 times more (because I love every musical 😂) can't believe it's having its 20th anniversary amazing job Christy such an Amazing Anastasia
I was able to watch this on broadway, and I love broadway shows. This was by far my favorite. Standing ovation, the cast was amazing, brought my childhood back. Will watch again!!
The fact that she was sick, just performed an entire show and still managed to sound like that is amazing!! She is a goddess⭐⭐⭐
I know im a bit late but WHAT٫ she was SICK WHEN SHE DID THIS?! HOW- pure talent
She sang in sync with the cartoon, she's so perfect asdfghk
A little late at the end and I def agree she was amazing and in sync
Agree...I love the idea of the actual animated movie in the back..its connecting the original to the present

Dana Steidle seriously I would do the exact same thing !
It brought me to tears, go see it
CHRISTY IS SO BRILLIANT! SHE WAS SO ON TIME WITH THE FOOTAGE 😁❤👏
Well duh. You try singing the song NOT in time with the footage.
Technically that's more like the brilliance of the conductor since he/she keeps and sets the tempo, but Christy is brilliant none the less!
actually, there's a small TV facing her so she could peak to keep up with the sync. It's typical facility in all broadway theatre at least.
She grew up with the movie version of the song so she can probably sing it with her eyes closed. 😆

She was sick this week. Both her and Nicole. Julia and Kathryn had to go on stage for one night so they could rest.
Aww that's too bad. I hope they recover quickly. :(
Yeah, you can definitely hear the scratchiness in her voice in some parts. But nevertheless, she’s an amazing performer even while sick.
Definitely as always!
How did they get the live performance and clip so perfectly synced up? Amazing timing by Christy.

It’s pretty strange that a lot of people want Anastasia to become an official Disney Princess, since Disney owns Fox now
ohhhh yes they gotta do that! someone refer to the disney princess rules see if An qualifies!
There is already a cast named Anastasia...Cinderella’s step sister
@@thebettercandyxd1307 she wears a dress and has an animal sidekick, she's a princess alright
KoraggRules she’s not a princess though
@@georgiaewington I believe a Grand Duchess of Russia counts as a princess. And have you seen how many disney princesses aren't actually princesses?
This song may have lost the Oscar to "My Heart Will Go On" but it certainly had more longevity! Still magical over 20 years later
The oscars are bullshit. Fox made sure not to get "once upon a december" because they wanted Titanic to win.
Yeah, this isn’t a thing. ‘My Heart Will Go On’ remains iconic. This is a cute song from an animated film score...🤨
Yhea my heart will go on is in a whole another level don’t even compare this to that iconic song.

I am so dying to know how does Don Bluth feels about this show. I would imagine him loving it of course!
Yes, I would imagine Don Bluth loving the Broadway adaption of "Anastasia", as well as his longtime partner Gary Goldman.
I love this. She’s really syncing well!
Ashley Jane I don’t think she is lip syncing
I think she means she's singing in sync with the video well, not that she's literally lip syncing it's broadway and she doesn't need to, but y'know.
