Am I the only one who doesn’t understand how prisoners get released for good behaviour? They aren’t serving their sentence based on how they act in prison. They’re serving their sentence based on what they did to get there in the first place.

Its really interesting to me that the court will accept that someone's traumatic past 'effected their judgement' enough to kill someone, when we all have loved ones who went thru as much and worse than those girls did growing up, whose judgement was not effected enough to kill someone like this. In other words, how can one accept it as a mitigating factor when for the overwhelming majority of abuse survivors, homicidal actions are not a factor. Furthermore, there are numerous killers who have never been a victim of SA or abuse. What's their excuse? If trauma was actually a cause for violence, there would be far more murders in this world. I personally don't care about them being juveniles, or females, or abuse survivors. There should have been NO leniency at all.

Saying they have rights well they gave up those rights the moment they murdered for the sucking pleasure of it and deserve to serve their full sentences and just enough food and water to live on. My roommate know knows Shanda's parents. When I shared this video of your story she said it was as bad as you described it and didn't like and it was ridiculous they were all out of prison.

Omg what Shanda’s mother did had me in tears by allowing her daughters killer to train a puppy in her honor. She is an absolutely amazing person bc I don’t think I could have ever forgiven them. They absolutely deserved to be in jail as a life sentence. Your life mattered Shanda.

This case sounds a lot like the one of Stacy Hanna. A girl I went to school with. She was brutally murdered in 1997 in Richmond Va by her “friends “. ID network did an episode of the murder. I really wish , Annie, that you would do a deep dive into the case. I have read the book about it and a friend of mine was a witness at trial. I appreciate all your hard work and even if it’s a case I’m familiar with, I ALWAYS learn something from your investigation. ❤️

Jackie is incredible..she is so strong to choose to forgive so things can get better than stew in hatred. It’s so much harder to forgive and move on than it is to continue to be angry. She’s an amazing person!

I lived rather close to Madison IN so this was the first case I couldn't get enough of. Read the book if you haven't. One of my friends knows the man who found her and it was devastating.

First off..I wanna say this is my first time on your channel and you told this story beautifully. Your delivery was spot on. Second, this story was God awful.. that poor child and her family..I couldn’t even image.. this is a pure definition of “trauma bonding”. Lastly.. I cried when seeing that the mother decided to honor her child and to see the growth in Melinda one the years in the program she is in. It take incredibly strength and courage to do what Shanda’s mother did.

Who is ANYONE to criticise shandas mother ? It was HER beloved daughter and her obviously deeply heartfelt decision ...no one has the right to say anything it was her choice ahf if it helps her healing we should all applaud this very forgiving woman

Shanda’s mother needs to do what she needs to do without criticism. If forgiving lightens her load it’s what she needs to do. Keeping hate in your heart is damaging in every way.

This is absolutely disgusting. That poor girl was only twelve years old. It reminds me of the case here in the UK where a sixteen year old named Suzanne capper was tortured for days and burned alive. These girls are evil.

I'm from there, too. Another True Crimer just covered the David Camm case last week. 🙈
Not to mention, I can recall at least 2 other cases taking place or having ties to New Albany over the years.
The serial killer who buried bodies in his yard and the nurse whose boyfriend murdered her in Florida during Hurricane Ian.
He was my niece's soccer coach. 🫣
