Ex-Transaero Now USAF 747-8i First Flight at Paine Field

  • This 747-8 Intercontinental was built for Transaero in 2015 and rolled out last August. However, with the collapse of the company and Aeroflot's unwillingness to take up the order, this 747-8i and another were left to be stored at Paine Field, painted in all white.
Many suspected that they would be used for spare parts for the, at the time, slowing 747 production line, or scrapped entirely, but one thing was certain, Boeing was struggling to find a home for them.
Well in the wake of the Iran Air deal last month, one of these 747s has been pulled out of storage and prepped for flight, and some sources state that she is aimed at Iran Air, yet there is no confirmation as of now. Although deliveries for Iran Air's 747-8s will not begin until late 2018, these 747s are being readied for the desert where they will wait, fully licensed, until Iran Air can take them.
UPDATE August 2017: The Iran Air 747 order fell through when U.S. Congress specifically denied the 747 frames last fall for fear of nuclear weapons transportation, which is a bad claim, but it's the deal they made, so only 777s have been ordered for the long haul Boeing fleet. These two Transaero 747-8i NTUs have now been contracted by the USAF to become the new VC-25 replacements. The frames have never been delivered, and are unrelated to Russia other than that a private Russian company had ordered them years before.
It should also be mentioned that this particular 747 was readied so quickly for flight, as it was the canvas of Boeing's centennial laser show at Boeing Field on July 15th through 17th, 2016.
    AIRCRAFT INFO:
    Registration: N895BA
    Construction No: 42417
    Line No: 1523
    Variable No: RC077
    Type: B747-8M5(i)
    Powerplant: 4x GEnx-2B67
    First Flight: July 8th, 2016
    This Flight: July 8th, 2016
NOTICE: Until either company states otherwise, I will treat this 747 as if she is for Iran Air, and make adjustments later if it turns out not to be.

This is definitely one of the aircraft currently being modified and prepared to be the next Air Force One!

This is the first VC-25B for the USAF's Air Force One Recapalization Program, which will see the two VC-25A's be retired, and be replaced by the new VC-25B. This video shows Boeing conducting general airworthy flight tests, just to see if there's anything wrong with the jet, after being pulled out of storage, before they start the VC-25B conversion work.

Iran Air never ended up taking up this frame. Instead, the US Air Force is taking it up.

NOT "Ex-Transaero", they were never delivered or paid for. They've been owned by Boeing the whole time.

Great footage! It's interesting that Iran Air are doing more to support the 747 than the American airlines are! :) How many 748s are Iran Air buying?

There shall never be another aircraft design this graceful......dunno what possibility there is to power 747-8i with two GE-9X power plants? That'd make it a totally different plane perhaps.....the 4 engines augment her beautiful looks.
