"Superman, stalking his girlfriend when she's flying with the president!" Well since this was the 90's, if my significant other was flying with Bill Clinton I'd keep a close eye on them too
@Rex if Lois doesn’t even see Superman when he isn’t saving her they aren’t in a relationship at this point. More like Superman should start a relationship with Lois.
Honestly i think lois is well liked by comic book fans and she is considered the best superhero love interest and has good adaptions hell the new super man shows Lois is well liked and she helps super man and incourages him to help people out and she is actually married to the guy for years and is loyal unlike ms mary jane who is with paul now sad
Superman:TAS is one of the most underrated Superhero cartoons ever. No one ever talks about it, no one ever praises it, and it's hardly ever in a top 10 list. It needs more love, attention, and respect.
Part of the reason is that it’s kind of overshadowed. It didn’t break boundaries like Batman: TAS before it, it didn’t explore the greater DC universe to the degree the Justice League show did, and it didn’t offer a fresh spin on the character the way Batman Beyond did. Add in the shadow of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and the Christopher Reeves films and it just doesn’t stand out amongst the pack. It’s like if you had a lineup of 7 foot tall men with a 6 foot and 9 inches man on the end. No one is saying he’s short, but he doesn’t grab your attention the way the others do.
Chasformer, a coworker that was furious at me for not liking Man of Sreel (aside from that excellent X-ray powers overwhelming him scene) actually calmed down and admitted I had a point when I said the DCAU version is my Superman. (Though really my Superman is the one from the Death and Life of Superman novelization by Roger Stern, but I figured that was too nerdy to be believed. The cartoon is my second favorite) So not all hope is lost ^_^
What really impresses me about this movie is how much they're able to fit in such a short runtime. They're able to give every character moments to shine, there's great interactions between the characters, they build interesting relationships, the dialogue is great, the action is great, the plot is good, it's paced very well, and they fit it all in just 60 minutes with almost nothing feeling rushed or underdeveloped. I think the only two flaws are the Joker redesign and Lois and Bruce's romance being too convenient and fast.
It helps that by this point the characters are "fully formed". The character development only needs to be small things like learning to mesh their styles. Neither is going to alter who they are or how they do things, but can realize their pre-judgements weren't entirely correct. Note how neither doubts the other is a hero.
Yep and despite their differences there's no stupid Batman fights Superman plot, I hate it when writers think that Bats and Supes need to be enemies, in the comics despite their differences they were friends, it was Frank Miller's fault for starting all this nonsense in the first place. Also no dark and brooding Superman, I hate it when writers do that, Superman is meant to be an ideal archetypal hero character, I mean he's the first big American Superhero, sure there are moments where he struggles but if you're writing him well then he doesn't act like Snyder's Superman.
@@iceomistar4302 Yep! An example of a Good movie's superman is Christopher Reeves: A man who truly cares for the world he protects, and will fight to protect it and it's people. Snyder's Is basically Frank Millers Superman brought to the Silver Screen. And what makes it even worse.... Is Henry Cavil actually loves Superman, Just like how he loved The Witcher when he acted as Geralt. But the problem with both, Is Cavil was sat with horrible, horrible directors who only loved the bad stuff It seemed (Frank Millers way of Writing Superman besides most of 1/2 of that Superman Mini-Series Linkara covered), or writers who actively hated the source material.
The big thing about Joker's redesign that I hate are the eyes. Still not as bad as The Riddler's. Which (As I've mentioned elsewhere) I've heard people compare to Jim Carey's getup from Batman Forever.
I did like that, while supes and bats clearly didn't really approve of the other's methodology, each still knew pretty much from the get-go that they were essentially working on the same side and definitely had the same goals. they might have started as antagonistic towards each other, but they still act enough like grown-ups to share and pool information and help each other out to mutual benefit. and I think thats the crucial difference between this and the scowl-fest that was BvS (hey, it was only Linkara who said he wasn't going to directly compare the two!)
I agree Harley's original costume works the best, I would love if they just updated that design instead of dressing her as whatever is popular in the sexy Halloween lingerie of that year
I feel like her Arkham City game outfit was a good update on it. Same color scheme, died twin tails for the hat, still let her do fancy moves without chance of an up skirt shot.
What’s weirder to me is whenever they do the original at all or show it… they always make it look terrible, like baggy or the two parts on top are droopy. As if they think the design is stupid and want you to think so too, thus their new design is “better”
@@ilopominecrafterwhoever writes the comic suit jokes in the Netflix marvel shows really needs to stop getting hired for projects with Harley Quinn in them
I agree about the thing about Harley's outfit. it's part of the reason I'm glad both Injustice and Arkham Knight have the option of having her in the classic outfit.
My biggest problem isn't with the change in costume is that weiters and artists use it to sexualize her. We already have 1(arguably 2) batman villians who do that, can we please have some variety?
Absolutly, the more they change they less she resembles an actual harlequin. Heck, in suicide squad she just looked like a drunken cheerleader. And hey, Body-tight latex is own it self allready pretty hot. ;)
Rory Lumley yeah.... you got this thing called sex appeal and, let's not beat around the bush, Harley has become a sex symbol since her introduction. Hell, I'm pretty sure Paul Dini had to approve of a lot of these costumes ever since the Arkham games!
The real kick to the teeth is that we saw Margot in the original costume for a couple of seconds and then were treated to that Hot Topic bullshit she wore instead for the rest of the run time, they didn't even give her mallet and they showed that too!
exactly, the problem isnot that she is sexy, she allways is sexy. The problem is that her new outfits don't resemble what she is supposed to be and like allready said, trying to hard. You don't allways have to show skin to be sexy. Skin-tight latex suit and a beautifull mask, thats all you need.
Between this and Lego Batman I miss when Batman wasn't all brooding, dark, angry and emo. Though thankfully Lego Batman didn't have any references to ASBAR.
i actually like the Arkham Series costumes and i think that if Harley would have the standard animation costume i'd be disapointed since the whole Arkham series was a build around the Batman license and that step actually allowed Rocksteady to re-imagine all the characters for their spinoff universe to give it it's own touch, on the other side we still had Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil as fanservice in the same time as lead VA even in that Arkham Knight where the Joker in that universe was long gone ... um spoilers ? kinda ? sorta ? yeah i spoilered the end of Arkham City there ._. so imo the point that Harley Quinn is not a mirror image of a an actual harleyquinn doesn't bother me at all, the same as Batman (who doesn't look like Man-Bat for that matter, a form i'd rather see for a beeing named Batman ) or the Joker since he aswell isn't sporting a jester outfit like h´the depiction on playing cards suggests :D
Eamonn Deane I mean, it was okay, but you definitely couldn't tell it was Harley, unless you heard her voice. Fun fact: it was the first time I heard of Harley Quinn.
okay on that we can agree :D i wonder if you've played the 3 games (yeah i don't count Arkham Origin since it wasn't made by Rocksteady and that shows in some details tbh, it felt compared to the other Arkham Games like that Miller Batman .. something is off until someone points the finger right at it :D ) so that is maybe why i don't mind that change ... or because that is some Jeanette Vormann/Hot Topic stuff i actually like, kinda a sucker for that visually anyway =P hm that Suiciode Squad imo is another stand alone incedent, since that Joker isn't the normal Joker it's more like Jason Todd transformed into him, that J branded on the face is a dead giveaway though, so in that Suicide Squad universe is actually alot of assumed and unknown history and backstory which can be helpfull for sequels and preques if they decide to go for .. so that outfit is also non canon, just a an iteration, i liked it but honestly it looked to clean imo in comparison to the Arkham stuff which in my perception was a layer of the chaotic frantic choices Harley made up until that point ... but maybe i read to much into that design asthetics :D
qu4dq0r3 ....No, just no. Joker in that movie isn't fucking Jason Todd transformed or shit like that. That theory was just something someone made because they hated how Joker looked. That theory is dead in the water. It is fully confirmed that the Suicide Squad Joker is the real Joker.
That’s why with my version of Batman V Superman (the Noah Da Ark Cut as I call it #FreeTheNoahDaArkCut) draws heavily from this and the rest of the DCAU… rather then the works of Just Crazy Frank Miller
I think the problem with Harley's classic costume is that it just doesn't look good in a realistic style. In the DCAU style, it looks cute, colorful, with just a decent amount of sex appeal, but at the same time, has plenty enough character to make it almost an after-thought. But, whenever I see the costume in a more realistic style (namely in cosplays, or most recently in the Arkham Knight DLC), it just looks like some weird S&M fetish thing, no matter how spot-on the actual costume may be. Granted, similar things can be said about the more gothic lolita look of the other Arkham games or the short-shorts, punk biker chick style of Suicide Squad, but, well... Pick your poison, I guess :P Also - just a personal observation; may just be a "me" thing - the way the harlequin mask hugs the face tends to make a real person's cheek bones more prominent, giving them a more gaunt and creepy look as opposed Harley's trademark youthful, peppy adorableness. Less "crazy clown girl", more "porcelain doll gone mad".
Except the costumes used by every version of Spiderman on film and more recently Deadpool are almost the same in terms of visual elements. The original could work but they would need to spend more money on it then WB is willing to cash out for what they view as a secondary character's appearance.
But Spidey's and Deadpool's outfits are covered in distracting elements (Spidey's web patterns and Deadpool's gear) that add to the overall appearance. Not to mention, their masks are designed to cover their entire face, and include exaggerated designs around their eyes to draw focus towards that particular area. If they were running around in just solid red and black/blue spandex with most of their faces uncovered, then yeah, it'd look pretty weird. ESPECIALLY if they were doing it wearing white makeup and black lipstick (X~X)
You wanna know what makes it ever worse for poor Harley? Apparently in her newer comics, she ditches her traditional pigtails and instead sports a mohawk as well as a pair of fishnet stockings. Because that's totally what harlequins wear, right? That aside, nice job on the review Lewis. I'm really liking these animated show/movie reviews lately. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them whether their Patreon sponsored or not.
i'd almost say ''points off'' but not because I think it's bad that it's animated--- no, because I think it's just too easy to slap points on things from the animated universe for being good. that's kind of what the animated universe. goodness. how things are supposed to be. hell I don't even think Superboy-Prime could find anything to complain about from the animated universe. at least not THIS movie. so I'm just saying to make it even remotely possible to tell what the best of the worst is (the paper comics that suck the least), sometimes you have to handicap the Animated series for being Animated because it's just so much easier for them to pick the points back up anyway because they're actually good. making a DC movie animated is like serving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with chocolate milk. it's what you do when you need people to be happy with what you did.
You're not far off when it comes to Bats & Supes getting the idea about swapping costumes. I've seen it done to great effect in Lego Batman: DC Heroes Unite. The two swap costumes before the final act of the film since they knew that Lex & Joker would use traps that would be effective against them (Batman would've been crushed & Superman would've gotten a full-on lethal blast of Kryptonite if they hadn't!) And since this was *LEGO*, all they did to switch costumes was swap their own heads around! Adding an extra bit of funny to that scene!
+Daniel Brant actually (i think) he was referencing an episode in the series in witch batman and superman swap costumes and superman uses his super impressions powers (just roll with it) to beat the shit out of bane.
It's been a recurring joke since the 50s, Batman and Superman swapping costumes, I have a view volumes of classic Batman and Superman comics and it's been a gag for a while.
Jason Scarce Me too. This Design for The Joker is bad. But I'm pretty sure the reason they changed the design is because of Superman The Animated Series.
@@jameciaproctor1633 Yeah but they proved that they didn't have to when, in the Batman Beyond Movie, he shows up in a flashback looking like an updated version of his old design. And Batman Beyond's art style is still consistent with Superman The Animated Series's.
What's interesting is I've never heard anyone involved in the DCAU production talk about it. I think they've offhandedly mention it was bad, but they've never explained just where it came from.
What's wrong with Batman V Superman the Ultimate Cut? It portrays a Clark Kent who wants to inspire hope in all but is met with fear and worshipped like a god while Bruce Wayne wants to strike fear into "a cowardly and superstitious lot" but is faced with an unchanged Gotham and now this alien superbeing. It seems to me most are pissed off it wasn't "Infallibleman v Infallibleman: World's Most Infallible".
21:25 I've always naturally assumed that when something blows up and we're only shown the outside of the explosion, the default explanation is that the character escaped at the last minute and we just didn't see them do it.
Probably helped that bruce timm said they deliberately made it a running gag throughout the universe that no matter the injury or seeming death, he always comes back with seemingly no explanation
I liked BvS, but concede there are some big flaws. Other than the whole killing thing, I actually really like Affleck as Batman and Bruce Wayne. It has by far the best live action Batman fight scene. However, this is far superior. Kevin Conroy is really the best Batman actor. I really wish a live action Batman actor would take lessons from a voice actor on changing registers. Conroy's Bruce and Batman are distinct without either sounding fake or forced. It helps that the characters are on equal footing and while their styles don't mesh right away, they're never really antagonists. Heck, Batman comes to Metropolis to save Superman's life. It really shows why this is comics' longest running bromance. I've noticed over the years that Linkara and I hold similar views to how we prefer our heroes portrayed. This movie is the perfect example. They get past their differences fairly quickly and concentrate on the job. They find their similarities far outweigh their differences. Bruce sees he can't intimidate Clark and Clark sees that Bruce doesn't see him as the living emodiment of heroism. It's why their friendship works. They can relax because they don't take each other's caped identity too seriously. Each goes a little far in one direction or the other with their civilian and caped ids. With each other, they're closer to the middle. We even see things like Superman thinking strategically which guys like Frank Miller think he's incapable of. He's not going to walk into a kryptonite trap without forethought and he was the one to come up with the idea of using the acid on the kryptonite. This shows why something like "JLA: Act of God" is so bad. There's no reason to tear one down to make the other seem great. Both are great historic characters that can shine equally well together as they do separately. This should be required viewing for anyone writing a story with the two and DC should really stop allowing writers to trash one at the other's expense.
Damn you didn't leave the clip where Bruce said, "She's all yours now, if you can handle that. But you better be good to her....cause I know where you live." oh well good review Linkara.
Thank you! I definately second the point with Harley and her outfits. I really love the old school one as it is just classic. Sure, people would now say that it is "less sexy" than the current iterations but she is wearing a tight unitard that shows off her figure. I´ll take that over hot pants and a ripped shirt any day.
This was great. Really love how they first met. they had a small "oh yeah?" with the judo throw, shoulder tackle and then the x-ray vision and bat tracker. First meetings are so awkward lol.
"You know, 'able to leap tall buildings in a single bound' isn't really impressive when anybody with a pogo stick can do it." And that's why Superman flies.
I'd have less of a problem with this movie if Batman's respect for Superman was more apparent. They're very different people, they're gonna argue over this, that, and the other, but at the end of the day, they're supposed to be best friends with nothing but respect for each other. One of my favorite moments from Batman: TAS is when Bruce is trapped in a dream world where he lives in a perfect Gotham City, which includes a Batman that ISN'T him which frees him up to be Bruce Wayne, and this Batman is a lot more impressive than Bruce ever thought he himself was. There's a scene in the graphic novel "Justice" where Batman's talking with Supes, and he says "Is that the reason you do interviews and tell everyone that you can see through walls? Is that the reason you let everyone KNOW about you? When you do, Clark, you take the power out of the shadows. You steal away a criminal's safety in the dark. You make them afraid. And people say I'M the smart one." Batman pushes himself to be the best in everything, but that can only come out of knowing that you're NOT the best in everything. We need more media featuring a Batman who's AWARE of his shortcomings, and knows how to give respect where respect is due. All I see in this movie is the rise of the Bat-God. "F*** you and all the other heroes, I'm Batman!" -_- On the subject of the original Harley Quinn outfit, nobody sees how sexy it is for her to be wearing something so decidedly UN-sexy. Harley's relationship with the Joker (while unhealthy) is based on complete subservience. After she swiped the costume to bust Joker out of Arkham, he probably told her to keep wearing it, just to see how she'd react; and because he insists, she HAS to wear it. She HAS to do everything her Puddin' says, and nothing pleases her more than doing just that. It's not a supervillainess costume, it's a silly S&M suit!
Agreed on the second point. However while i agree kinda with the first, i wouldn't take it that far. Batman being able to just take anyone on was far before the DCAU. In fact the DCAU is the exception. This episode just has him grumpy which is understandable since he's a very depressed anti-social person.
Even the titles show how this is superior to BVS. They are the world's finest team. They complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. No irritating "Martha" moments or convoluted reasons to commit murder, just a really great film.
Linkara are you insane? Spider Daleks are a terrifying thought to have and they wouldn't be stopped by their biggest weakness stairs. Oh wait they can hover.
World's Finest got a lot more character and story done in just over an hour compared to the almost three-hour snorefest of Dawn of Justice. There were a few scenes in DoJ that were cool but would have stood better as short films. In regards to Harley Quinn's outfits, the only one I truly hated was the first outfit she had in the new 52 with the stupid ruff, tiny cape and the far-too-small corset.
Fun fact: in the voice over session Tim Daley actually changed the pitch of his Superman voice to compete with Kevin Conroy's deep and kinda smokey Batman voice, he did so in order to sound manlier like Kevin! It's a funny lil' world isn't it haha
for some reason I was sure you were going to review Batman and Superman: Public enemies... yaknow, the one with a giant half batman, half superman robot.
First: BvS is my favorite movie, but thank you for at least acknowledging my right to enjoy it as I please and not going into some tirade of hatemongering like everyone else does. Second: 12:46, we actually did get her original outfit in 'Injustice 2'.
12:06 hands down best joke in the whole review, "why even bother...." XD the end also had this little scene with alfred smirking like a psychopath as he watches the news concerning jokers death, you didnt mention it in the review
Now THIS is the real Batman v. Superman. I don't know if this happens with anyone else, but I tried watching the movie with my dad to show him what a real crossover between Superman and Batman would be like, but I felt really awkward watching the movie with him the whole time. Not because it's a bad movie or anything, it's just I always feel awkward showing my dad stuff I like.
Much like the Spectacular Spider-Man, The Batman/Superman Movie hold's alot of nostalgia for me and everyone else who visited the video store way back when. Not really much to add aside from how iconic it is to see two of the most popular DC superheroes meet. Great review and I thank whoever patroned this.
Linkara: But, hey! It's superhero stuff. It would be more impressive if he did die. Tim Drake: Hold my beer. Note: I do not support underage drinking. Stay away from the beer, Tim.
10:00 And that is why I despised Batman v Superman even before its release. I've always hated the Batman vs Superman arguments because it brought out the worst aspect of fanboyism when I would just say "Who Cares? They are much more awesome working together than fighting each other!" Warner Brothers though plastered the BVS EVERYWHERE as a marketing ploy to draw in this kind of immature drooling fanboys to its seats. And then I actually saw the movie and found out the title was a lie, because there was barely any Batman v Superman in it. The movie could not commit to its own title! I was not fond of the concept Captain America: Civil War either, but at least it focused on its theme, explained character motivations and was able to make an exciting action sequence out of it. BvS is like "BATMAN VS SUPER MAN! Now enjoy this boring 6 minute fight with poorly explained motivations. Also, its entirely one-sided on Batman 's favor because we do not respect Superman and would rather jerk of to how awesome Batman is." Sorry for the rant, but makes it difficult to for me to enjoy great DCAU material like World Finest, when I have to be reminded that something spiteful and unpleasant like BvS exists forever.
I do appreciate what Linkara is saying at the beginning. Even though he doesn't care for the DCEU movies (so far (here's hoping for Wonder Woman and Justice League)), he understands that there are real reasons for why people do like them, and not just because of the violence and "darkness" but because of how we chose to see and interpret the movies and how much more we see of their good aspects rather than their flaws. And all that said, while I like the Ultimate Edition of BvS, this movie is still way better in my opinion.
Alexander Sigstad I'm just gonna put this out there. DC shouldn't be dark and gritty. Only Batman is allowed to be Dark and Brooding. DC has freaking Superman and Wonder Woman for pete's sake, both inspiring Superheroes. Whenever they do something dark with characters who aren't dark, it terrible.
This movie was actually my first introduction to both characters. He also missed my favorite line from Harley after she gets arrested. " I want a lawyer I want a doctor I want a cheese sandwich!"
This movie is what actually introduced me to Batman and Superman... And also caused me to hate Batman for a few years, since I loved Superman, but all of my brothers loved Batman and hated Superman, so I had to be completely against them in this regard(little kid logic). I've obviously come around on liking Batman, but I still prefer Superman if I'm required to pick, though I prefer the two as a duo.
My thoughts exactly. Actually, I liked Superman and Batman equally while I was growing up, but began to dislike Batman in recent years due to DC's insistence of overexposure to him and apparently being afraid of being unable to sell/produce a product that doesn't involve Batman, especially when it came to animated movies
Ben_ToaofFire Mine was the inverse effect, really. I've always preferred Batman to Superman, mainly because I found it more impressive that Batman could be as cool as he is without the superpowers, whereas my father loved Superman to the point of saying Batman's "not a real superhero" exactly because he has no superpowers. This caused me to actively resent Superman in the way you just described for several years until recently where I've finally grown to like Superman. Of course, Batman is still my favorite comic book character of all time, but it's not like I ignore every other superhero in existence either.
Me, it was always about 50-50 for both Batman and Superman, but it slowly swung towards say...55-45 in Superman's favor. They were my intro to superheroes and were pretty much the ONLY ones I knew(Hell, there were times when I didn't watch Justice League because either Batman, Superman, or both weren't there...please don't shoot me, I love JL and JLU!!) But...they both dropped to the bottom f my 'hero scale' once I got into Spider-Man!
+kaihedgie Superman has nearly as much exposure as Batman. It's just that the former's films, video games, etc... tend to fail more often. Quite frankly, DC has always relied on those two characters in various media. Wonder Woman is the one who got screwed all these years given that she's part of that trinity.
Superman doesn't have as much exposure as Batman. Superman's last video game was Superman Returns (2006), and his last animated movie was Superman: Unbound (2013). Batman's last video game was Batman: Arkham Knight (2015), and his last animated movie was Batman: The Killing Joke (2016). Batman also had a lego movie this year, and he's getting yet another animated movie in the summer. Superman on the other hand has no confirmed upcoming projects other the Justice League movie, where Batman will have the spotlight and Superman will only show up in the last 30 minutes.
Complaining about Harley Quinn's new outfits has been my favourite pasttime since 2012. At least it's improved since the New 52's Suicide Squad, where it looked like she was going to fall out of it every time she did a flip.
lol. Actually stopped this video because this movie is sitting on my shelf, still wrapped in plastic and I have never seen it. Linkara you made me feel bad. I will now go do my "homework".
anyone else notice that little hint that kryptonite can kill humans? where previous owners of that dragon have died, its also like how lex's constant exposure to the chunk he carried around gave him cancer
The fight between Superman and Batman at the club makes for a good comparison with the fight between Spiderman and Captain America at the airport. While Superman and Spiderman are far stronger than Batman and Captain America the latter still to get the drop on their opponents because they were underestimated by them.
You would not believe how difficult it's been the last two months when the comics KEEP handing me political joke opportunities. The only one I indulged in was the "Alternative Facts" one in the Spectacular Spider-Man review.
Not to dis the animated series because that is probably one of the best things DC ever released but it's sad that a direct to video movie with a tv budget is better then the multi million dollar live action movie that was released theatrically. Man fuck WB. Not sure if I'm hyped for Wonder Woman and Justice League any more.
Here’s something I don’t get about the Jade dragon statue killing people, it’s been stated that the Jade dragon statue is actually krpytonite, Superman’s weakness. But the previous owners aren’t kryptonians, they’re human and Superman is the only kryptonian on earth.
As will be mentioned in the Timmverse shows a couple of times, Kryptonite radiation IS still radiation at higher levels than normal, so it DOES affect humans... it's just takes longer for it to become deadly. Lex Luthor ends up getting cancer from it because he kept a Kryptonite ring on his person.
Thank you for choosing not to harp on Batman V Superman during this as I did actually enjoy the film ( I don't take it personally you didn't, it just would have sucked to sit through ) and I love world's finest to pieces so I've been waiting with baited breath for this episode.
have you read this batman comic called "White knight"? It's not canon, but they explain Harley's sudden change of outfits as it not being Harleen quinzel at all, in that universe she left the joker out of fear right after he killed Jason Todd. The joker didn't even notice she left because a banker he forced as a hostage, who coincidently looks a lot like Charleen and even has a name that's an obscure pun to the harlequin, developed some kind of Stockholm syndrome and became his new harley, the suicide squad one.
That's likely because Warner Bros is less harsh on animated adaptations in terms of how much control they exert. Go look at their history with their comic book rights, the word "incompetent" doesn't even come close.
This, Mask of the Phantasm, Sub Zero, Assault on Arkham are examples of DC doing movies well. I dont know why they don't put their animated writers to do their Live actions.
@@JaelinBezelYeah. A UA-camr I follow criticized Sub Zero for being shorter than Mask of the Phantasm. But felt like it somehow had a lot more filler
6:51 “SUPERMAN... doesn’t care if Lex Luthor dies in a car crash!” “You see, Luthor, your limo is over there, and over there needs to take care of its own problems.”
18:08 Almost reminded me of a cover of Superman Unchained that had a Lot of variant covers celebrating Supes' 75th Anniversary, where one of them was a role reversal thing that Lois was revealed to be Batman and Supes was surprised by this reveal; had nothing to do with the story itself, but just thought of that.
16:21 - World's Greatest Detective everybody - This is why Batman and Superman have their own villains. Movie could've been over RIGHT HERE - Batman served only to antagonize Lex Luthor to the point of teaming up with Joker in full force. This is why Batman's tactics are terrible - he made the situation worse and gained nothing. 19:10 Believe it or not, This ridiculous thing was once real. Look up the Kalinin K-7 They say they attempted the classic Harley Quinn outfit for Suicide Squad, but "it didn't look right." Nope. Not the suit's fault. Seen plenty of cosplayers pull it off. Don't blame the suit when it is YOU who suck. The DCAU has so far topped all the latest big budget DCEU trash.
5:30 "Stalks his girlfriend when she is riding with the president."
Eih, Clinton was the president at the time. He did good being cautious.

Oof, that's a good one.
Did Linkara in Batman's voice just talk like a tsundere? Wow. Worlds collide.
Heh I love that Lois has a reputation for allways being saved by superman and villans recognize it.
Zxzero36 That's Hilarious
It's like she's trying to have that kind of fetish

Superman:TAS is one of the most underrated Superhero cartoons ever. No one ever talks about it, no one ever praises it, and it's hardly ever in a top 10 list. It needs more love, attention, and respect.
People are too obsessed with Batman to care, sadly
Yeah. This is why I don't think Batman is a great character anymore. He went from the worlds greatest detective, to the worlds greatest Gary Stu.
Part of the reason is that it’s kind of overshadowed. It didn’t break boundaries like Batman: TAS before it, it didn’t explore the greater DC universe to the degree the Justice League show did, and it didn’t offer a fresh spin on the character the way Batman Beyond did.
The cartoon is my second favorite)
So not all hope is lost ^_^
It's sandwiched between Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Not a good spot to be in.
Harley Quinn: "I want a lawyer! I want a doctor! I WANT A CHEESE SANDWICH!"
Classic
Now that's funny.
"I want my lawyer! And a pony!"
In that order?
Would you like any of those buttered up?
Batman's using a Deadly Chin Weapon... Chins, My God.

I agree Harley's original costume works the best, I would love if they just updated that design instead of dressing her as whatever is popular in the sexy Halloween lingerie of that year
I like that the new Suicide Squad film had a pretty good version
@@michaelnally2841 not a fan of the direction they went with that costume, but i see the appeal
@@ilopominecrafterwhoever writes the comic suit jokes in the Netflix marvel shows really needs to stop getting hired for projects with Harley Quinn in them
Batman as a Tsundere makes TOO MUCH SENSE.
Just say he's crazy for lois are you that lazy
you can't even give the excuse that the harlequin costume isn't sexy, it's skin tight and accentuates curves. I don't even know why they changed it.
Not enough skin, gotta grab that teenage boy audience
Undertaker9711 ikr it sucks
I agree about the thing about Harley's outfit. it's part of the reason I'm glad both Injustice and Arkham Knight have the option of having her in the classic outfit.
My biggest problem isn't with the change in costume is that weiters and artists use it to sexualize her. We already have 1(arguably 2) batman villians who do that, can we please have some variety?
12:41 "can we get harley's outfit back!?"
*and then aliens switched Bruce Timm's brain with Miller's mashed potatoes and he made Batman&Harley Quin*

I really like Harley Quinn original coustume and think it should be used more
Absolutly, the more they change they less she resembles an actual harlequin.
The real kick to the teeth is that we saw Margot in the original costume for a couple of seconds and then were treated to that Hot Topic bullshit she wore instead for the rest of the run
time, they didn't even give her mallet and they showed that too!
Its sexy without trying too hard
exactly, the problem isnot that she is sexy, she allways is sexy. The problem is that her new outfits don't resemble what she is supposed to be and like allready said, trying to hard. You don't allways have to show skin to be sexy. Skin-tight latex suit and a beautifull mask, thats all you need.
RIP Kevin Conroy. Long live the best Batman.

Which is rather shocking given the sheer number of references to the rest of Batman's history. Shocking, yet very appreciated.
12:27 "Trying too hard." That perfectly describes the problem comic companies have when redesigning new costumes.
not just comics either.
Especially with Jim Lee costumes.
Especially for women
I agree with you on Harley's unnecessary costume changes. Why make her look /less/ like a harlequin?
+Eamonn Deane The original costume was also fan service, it just wasn't blatant and in your face.
i actually like the Arkham Series costumes and i think that if Harley would have the standard animation costume i'd be disapointed since the whole Arkham series was a build around the Batman license and that step actually allowed Rocksteady to re-imagine all the characters for their spinoff universe to give it it's own touch, on the other side we still had Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamil as fanservice in the same time as lead VA even in that Arkham Knight where the Joker in that universe was long gone ... um spoilers ? kinda ? sorta ? yeah i spoilered the end of Arkham City there ._.
so imo the point that Harley Quinn is not a mirror image of a an actual harleyquinn doesn't bother me at all, the same as Batman (who doesn't look like Man-Bat for that matter, a form i'd rather see for a beeing named Batman ) or the Joker since he aswell isn't sporting a jester outfit like h´the depiction on playing cards suggests :D
Eamonn Deane I mean, it was okay, but you definitely couldn't tell it was Harley, unless you heard her voice. Fun fact: it was the first time I heard of Harley Quinn.
okay on that we can agree :D
i wonder if you've played the 3 games (yeah i don't count Arkham Origin since it wasn't made by Rocksteady and that shows in some details tbh, it felt compared to the other Arkham Games like that Miller Batman .. something is off until someone points the finger right at it :D
) so that is maybe why i don't mind that change ...
or because that is some Jeanette Vormann/Hot Topic stuff i actually like, kinda a sucker for that visually anyway =P
hm that Suiciode Squad imo is another stand alone incedent, since that Joker isn't the normal Joker it's more like Jason Todd transformed into him, that J branded on the face is a dead giveaway though, so in that Suicide Squad universe is actually alot of assumed and unknown history and backstory which can be helpfull for sequels and preques if they decide to go for .. so that outfit is also non canon, just a an iteration, i liked it but honestly it looked to clean imo in comparison to the Arkham stuff which in my perception was a layer of the chaotic frantic choices Harley made up until that point ... but maybe i read to much into that design asthetics :D
qu4dq0r3 ....No, just no. Joker in that movie isn't fucking Jason Todd transformed or shit like that. That theory was just something someone made because they hated how Joker looked. That theory is dead in the water. It is fully confirmed that the Suicide Squad Joker is the real Joker.
You missed a perfect "No Capes!" opportunity around the 17:50 minute mark. Though perhaps that one would have been too obvious.
He could also have made a reference to Futurama in regards to the big robot production, given his cute robot comment.
I know, right? I yelled "NO CAPES!" at the screen during the scene.
you know now bats can release his cape if that happens.
I know this has already been said, but _World's Finest_ was FAR better than _Batman v Superman_.
Joshua Nelson That's like comparing a glorious New York Strip to a half chewed piece of beef jerky.
Joshua Nelson So true
I personally totally agree.
That's just a fact
Pick your poison, I guess :P
Also - just a personal observation; may just be a "me" thing - the way the harlequin mask hugs the face tends to make a real person's cheek bones more prominent, giving them a more gaunt and creepy look as opposed Harley's trademark youthful, peppy adorableness.

Because that's totally what harlequins wear, right?
That aside, nice job on the review Lewis. I'm really liking these animated show/movie reviews lately. I wouldn't mind seeing more of them whether their Patreon sponsored or not.
Yay! A GOOD Batman/Superman movie! Bonus points for it being the DCAU :3
Extra points for it being separated into three episodes for Superman: TAS.
i'd almost say ''points off'' but not because I think it's bad that it's animated--- no, because I think it's just too easy to slap points on things from the animated universe for being good. that's kind of what the animated universe. goodness. how things are supposed to be. hell I don't even think Superboy-Prime could find anything to complain about from the animated universe. at least not THIS movie.
so I'm just saying to make it even remotely possible to tell what the best of the worst is (the paper comics that suck the least), sometimes you have to handicap the Animated series for being Animated because it's just so much easier for them to pick the points back up anyway because they're actually good.
making a DC movie animated is like serving peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with chocolate milk. it's what you do when you need people to be happy with what you did.
Public Enemies was good
"Yeah, if you're into chins that can cut meat." OK, that made me choke with laughter. I was not expecting that! :)
Linkara saying there are actually reasonable people who made arguments in favor of BvS kept me from writing a hateful comment about the movie here!
You're not far off when it comes to Bats & Supes getting the idea about swapping costumes. I've seen it done to great effect in Lego Batman: DC Heroes Unite. The two swap costumes before the final act of the film since they knew that Lex & Joker would use traps that would be effective against them (Batman would've been crushed & Superman would've gotten a full-on lethal blast of Kryptonite if they hadn't!)
And since this was *LEGO*, all they did to switch costumes was swap their own heads around! Adding an extra bit of funny to that scene!
+Daniel Brant
actually (i think) he was referencing an episode in the series in witch batman and superman swap costumes and superman uses his super impressions powers (just roll with it) to beat the shit out of bane.
It's also something they did dozens of times during the SIlver Age
It's been a recurring joke since the 50s, Batman and Superman swapping costumes, I have a view volumes of classic Batman and Superman comics and it's been a gag for a while.
My only complaint about this era of the DC animated universe, is Joker's design. Makes me want to go and rotoscope his face in every scene he's in.
Can't forget the redesign of Poison Ivy and Catwoman during that era. Wasn't awful, but heavily lacking from their designs in Batman TAS.
And Batman Beyond's art style is still consistent with Superman The Animated Series's.
joker's imo was phenomenal, made him look like such an unnerving entity, not entirely human behind those beady eyes
What's interesting is I've never heard anyone involved in the DCAU production talk about it. I think they've offhandedly mention it was bad, but they've never explained just where it came from.

It seems to me most are pissed off it wasn't "Infallibleman v Infallibleman: World's Most Infallible".
Now I’m picturing Alfred just going to town on that mini bar XD
of all internet critics, of all categories, Linkara has by far the best theme song.
Nah, Jim Sterling theme is number one.
I really do want to hear Linkara do Conroy and Daly's voices.
I personally want Conroy and Daly to quote some of Lewis's jokes in this episode.
Too bad Conroy kinda got shafted with Crisis on Infinite Earths
Damn you didn't leave the clip where Bruce said, "She's all yours now, if you can handle that. But you better be good to her....cause I know where you live."
oh well good review Linkara.
Thank you! I definately second the point with Harley and her outfits. I really love the old school one as it is just classic. Sure, people would now say that it is "less sexy" than the current iterations but she is wearing a tight unitard that shows off her figure. I´ll take that over hot pants and a ripped shirt any day.
I love the reference to my favorite episode of Superman TAS. The scene where SuperBat fights Bane is AMAZING.
"You are free to like Harly Quinn's new outfits."
That's right, everyone's entitled to being wrong.
"He leads it down into the printers, where his cape gets trapped in the machines..."
Edna Mode: No Capes!
Depending on when in TNBA continuity this takes place at minimum Batgirl is still around.
This was great. Really love how they first met. they had a small "oh yeah?" with the judo throw, shoulder tackle and then the x-ray vision and bat tracker.
First meetings are so awkward lol.
"You know, 'able to leap tall buildings in a single bound' isn't really impressive when anybody with a pogo stick can do it."
And that's why Superman flies.
Considering that this is The dc universe flying is not exactly impressive either
And people say I'M the smart one."
Batman pushes himself to be the best in everything, but that can only come out of knowing that you're NOT the best in everything. We need more media featuring a Batman who's AWARE of his shortcomings, and knows how to give respect where respect is due. All I see in this movie is the rise of the Bat-God. "F*** you and all the other heroes, I'm Batman!" -_-
On the subject of the original Harley Quinn outfit, nobody sees how sexy it is for her to be wearing something so decidedly UN-sexy.
Bobsheaux Yeah that's true and all, Bet like Nightwing says " Batman never admits anything "
Agreed on the second point. However while i agree kinda with the first, i wouldn't take it that far. Batman being able to just take anyone on was far before the DCAU. In fact the DCAU is the exception. This episode just has him grumpy which is understandable since he's a very depressed anti-social person.
The Mercy/Harley fight is really worth keeping your eyes on. Such a great gag set against Lex and Joker having a sit-down chat.
Especially when Harley yelled out, "BANZAI!!!"

World's Finest got a lot more character and story done in just over an hour compared to the almost three-hour snorefest of Dawn of Justice.
Also, its entirely one-sided on Batman 's favor because we do not respect Superman and would rather jerk of to how awesome Batman is."
Sorry for the rant, but makes it difficult to for me to enjoy great DCAU material like World Finest, when I have to be reminded that something spiteful and unpleasant like BvS exists forever.
Well said.
Well said indeed. This Crossover is so much better than BVS.
Loved the old DCAU
Sousabird OLD? theres only one DCAU
20:28
"Man, I wish Spider Daleks were a thing."
Read Engines of War. Spider Daleks *are* a thing. And they're awesome.
The Linkara ending theme song makes me smile tons. Whoever wrote that song deserves an award.
lol. Actually stopped this video because this movie is sitting on my shelf, still wrapped in plastic and I have never seen it.
Linkara you made me feel bad. I will now go do my "homework".
6:45 I see Harley gets her driving experience from playing Grand Theft Auto games
"I WANT A LAWYER!!!! I WANT A DOCTOR!! I WANT A CHEESE SANDWICH!!!!!!"
When I first saw this I didn't read comics and only had movies and animated series and my reaction to this was 'Oh my god! This is happening!'
anyone else notice that little hint that kryptonite can kill humans? where previous owners of that dragon have died, its also like how lex's constant exposure to the chunk he carried around gave him cancer
The fight between Superman and Batman at the club makes for a good comparison with the fight between Spiderman and Captain America at the airport. While Superman and Spiderman are far stronger than Batman and Captain America the latter still to get the drop on their opponents because they were underestimated by them.
A Narcissistic Tsundere Batman. IDK if that's best thing ever or the worst.
Yep
How about cursed?
After hearing his rant on Harley’s outfit, I think his request was granted by Justice League Action.
5:39 The president with a concussion, an injury that causes brain damage?
Too easy a joke.
You would not believe how difficult it's been the last two months when the comics KEEP handing me political joke opportunities. The only one I indulged in was the "Alternative Facts" one in the Spectacular Spider-Man review.
ProbeVoyages Bill Clinton doesn't get the mental deficiency excuse.
Love the lighting in this video. I think you should keep this one.
Your funniest review so far this year, imo. Keep it going!
Don't give up on Wonder Woman. She was the best thing in Batman v. Superman.
I can't defend the Justice League movie. It pisses me off too much.
That's not a dis to the animated movie, that's a dis to Zach Snyder and the dysfunctional think tank at WB.
Wayne Hays I just don't care anymore honestly.
what about Mask of the Phantasm
I'm optimistic about Wonder Woman. I've seen the animated 2007 movie and it was pretty good.
Lord, I used to watch this on all the time as a kid. Put that VHS on repeat.
"That chin is a deadly weapon."
Well, this IS a Batman review so...
"Chins...my God."
A great review of a fantastic movie that makes me nostalgic for both animated series which featured incredible artwork and amazing voice acting.
You actually got me to watch this movie. Thank you Linkara.
have you read this batman comic called "White knight"? It's not canon, but they explain Harley's sudden change of outfits as it not being Harleen quinzel at all, in that universe she left the joker out of fear right after he killed Jason Todd. The joker didn't even notice she left because a banker he forced as a hostage, who coincidently looks a lot like Charleen and even has a name that's an obscure pun to the harlequin, developed some kind of Stockholm syndrome and became his new harley, the suicide squad one.
This movie shows that dc is superior when doing animation than live action.
That's likely because Warner Bros is less harsh on animated adaptations in terms of how much control they exert.
Go look at their history with their comic book rights, the word "incompetent" doesn't even come close.
I had the VHS of this and watched it so much I actually broke it. I loved this soooooo much.
You're Batman impression is hilarious.
I wore out the VHS of this as a kid
This, Mask of the Phantasm, Sub Zero, Assault on Arkham are examples of DC doing movies well. I dont know why they don't put their animated writers to do their Live actions.
I heard Sub Zero was lackluster
@@JaelinBezelYeah. A UA-camr I follow criticized Sub Zero for being shorter than Mask of the Phantasm. But felt like it somehow had a lot more filler
Loved the reference to the later crossover.
"It's a pity the president has a concussion now", made me laugh out loud imagining it was Donald Trump.
it would explain why superman was stalking Lois if she was on a plane with Bill Clinton
+Gracie J Yes, I know. It's just fun to imagine since he's a great big douchebag.
LOLZ
NeoDragonCount i would be okay with that
NeoDragonCount Don't know why, given that Bill "grabby-hands" Clinton was President.
18:45 : There actually was an episode of superman where Clark had to cover as Batman. Was pretty awesome.
"Lois! YOU'RE Bruce Wayne?!"
"No, I'm Lois Lane!"
"So you admit it!"
lol
Someone needs to draw that and the Superman one!
6:51
“SUPERMAN... doesn’t care if Lex Luthor dies in a car crash!”
“You see, Luthor, your limo is over there, and over there needs to take care of its own problems.”
This is a better movie, better characters and better plot. BETTER. My favorite Batman/Superman movie.
DragonKnight15 - Jason Cruz mine too.
Look up the Kalinin K-7
They say they attempted the classic Harley Quinn outfit for Suicide Squad, but "it didn't look right." Nope. Not the suit's fault. Seen plenty of cosplayers pull it off. Don't blame the suit when it is YOU who suck.
The DCAU has so far topped all the latest big budget DCEU trash.
pinky75910 The TimmVerse will always crush the SnyderVerse.
