    This story has always struck me as such a pitiful tragedy. Wings is a dude with a lot of very valid anxieties but every single time he can make a choice of how to deal with them he chooses the most toxic one. He needs attention from people but he also hates it because attention means pressure and pressure means failure and failure means perceived worthlessness and he can’t handle that. He wants support but he hates asking for it and he wants to be understood but he hates being known and he wants to win but he hates to lose and it’s just… it’s sad, man.

      Yeah, I've been there. As much as the guy is a dick, I can't help but pity him
      I've been there with weight. Not nearly as much as him, but I was nearly 300lbs at one point. At that point it just seems so insurmountable. When you exercise, you're paranoid people are judging you, you wanna just eat food because youre in a shit mood all the time, it takes such deep reserves of willpower to start shifting the pounds.
      I've lost 4 stone since last year but it's been difficult. I honestly hope Wings *can* find a way to shift his weight because he'd actually become such a better person for it. Not cause fat people are evil or some dumb thing like that, but because he would *know* he isn't a failure, no matter what anyone tells him

      This is too perfect of an explanation of Wings.
      The only thing I’d add is that in many of these situations he’s trying hard to control everything. He wants to control the narrative, people’s actions, what people say about him etc. He especially does this when he says something shocking and gets called out for it. He wants to say stuff to shock people (like the story where he claimed to have left a cat under a bucket and forgot about it), but doesn’t want to deal with any repercussions that come with it.

    • @TheDotBot
      @TheDotBot 4 роки тому +53

      @@joshuaslowey71 That's my point, there's nothing they could do. Most of us have known people we've wanted to help but couldn't. And some of us have had more than a bad day ourselves. It's frustrating and soul-destroying and everything when all friends can do is provide a list of phone numbers to call, but we learn from it and move on without commodifying the experience.
      I'm not suggesting they cut him out of the group, but why do they have to "fix" him? It was supposed to be a gaming gig.
      It's ok, I know, it was part of the show and yes they were all ok with it, but it's like they'd all made some kind of agreement to use each other for their own "career". That's not a friendship, it's more like a working relationship where what they're selling is their personal life for a bit of shitty online drama. I don't see how that can go well.
      Wings gets a pass from me as he genuinely needed professional help. He was also easy to manipulate. The others, nope. They're adults, they're not stupid or anything, and they knew from the start that Wings was emotionally unstable. I don't even think they're bad people but good people can have terrible ideas. Even so, they instigated this shit show, it's 100% on them when it goes tits up.

    As someone with depression, it's really hard to watch Wings' life spiral down. Moments like 1:35:40 you can see how much pain he's in. You can see he is TRULY hurting. But he sees himself as a perpetual victim and never takes real accountability for his life, happiness, or health (physical and mental).
    I want to cheer for him. I want him to get better. But there are deep rooted mental health issues he refuses address.

    • @thehungrylittlenihilist

      His line "I hate my life" gives the mindset away. I used to be like him, and the way people like that see life is as a static set of circumstances you're given. But now I see life as something you work on, like a painting or a car. There are some limits you're faced with or things that are just circumstance, but just as much of life is the result of your choices.

    • @XD4Lifeington
      @XD4Lifeington Рік тому +2

      @LateNightTableCo That's actually extremely interesting, because while I was watching the Boogie documentary he reminded me directly of the Wings I saw in this one. From those depictions of their lives and mentalities, the both of them seemed to me (absolutely not a psychiatrist) to be "covert narcissists" and I thought that, if they met, they'd find validation in each others' bad habits and victimhood mentalities. I was kinda hoping it wouldn't happen, because I assumed it would be terrible for both of them as human beings, but here we are. I hope my theory of them enabling their own bad habits and refusal to take accountability won't come to fruition.
      As far as I can tell, the only way for the two of them to get better is to stop deflecting and acting like the victims of some uncontrollable circumstance when they are the victims of their own decisions. And when people point out what they're doing wrong, don't assume the comments must be made in bad faith; more bullies from the mean ol' internet who just want to see them suffer because they cannot accept that they brought the hate on themselves through their actions, but acknowledge what is wrong with their behavior and change it. When Wings turned on Woody after the duel... that was hurtful. These actions cause genuine damage, but if they can only see themselves as pure victims, they'll never acknowledge how their behavior hurts others.

Yeah it leaves you miserable and self-pitying. But that's often a better place to be than "I could have pulled myself up and didn't". This rejection of responsibility for oneself takes many forms: fake nihilism (nothing matters anyway, why bother?); extremly low self-esteem (I'm don't actually deserve to get better); shifting blame (it's everyone else's fault), and so on.

      I dunno if you're aware, but wings is not really a particularly above average player anymore.
      I mean, he's probably better than any squeaker, and he knows the maps, but he loses just about every 1v1 engagement he gets into. I believe his KD is somewhere around 1.2.
      When you combine that with his awful personality, his ban happy way of modding his twitch chat (he just recently unbanned over 3,000 people... many of whom were subscribers, AND that seems to be only about half of the people he's banned) the fact that he gets views at all is amazing.
      I quite honestly cannot figure out how this man maintains any sort of income.

      @@iami3rian394 He was never really a particularly strong player when it came to 1v1 engagements tbh. He was always just decent at knowing the maps, playing slow and finding good places to headglitch.

    • @iami3rian394
      @iami3rian394 4 роки тому +23

      @@AlexDPS3 so I was watching his stream today. He's playing trios. Final two teams, all six people still alive.
      Ally calls in a cluster, and he panics and thinks it's an enemy cluster and runs out of cover for a second, gets his armor shredded.
      The other two allies are spread out in cover (trees), attacking one dude, while the other two are shooting at Wings.
      Without a word, he Leroy Jenkins out from behind his rock (relatively safe), and charges straight at one of the two guys shooting him and gets gunned down.
      He goes bananas, SCREECHING at his teammates. They point out they had no idea he was gonna charge out of cover, as he didn't call it out.
      Chat agrees with them, and tells wings to calm down and that he's wrong.
      "Mods, ban xxxname (a sub) and yyyname (a gifted sub)"
      Mods: "No, they're right, you expected your team to read your mind, this guy (skibbles, one of his teammates pointing out how absolutely fucking mind dull you have to be to make such a move, nevermind to do it without calling it... only he says it respectfully... also a sub, and has played numerous games with him, again top ten or wins) has valid points. You screwed up, you lost the match for the team."
      Wings: bans half of chat, IN sub only mode (so literally his actual fans), BOTH moderators (one legit said nothing), and of course anyone who says the words "mind reading" or "call-out "
      He unfriends and blocks both teammates, DESPITE having won last game and this game finishing second, and bans skibbles from the chat. The other guy was a paypig, so there's legit no way he's gonna ban him.
      It's actions like these, which occur every stream, that causes his viewership to dwindle.
      If the same thing happened, only he was one of the two tree people, he'd be screaming at his team like children about how important callouts are, but because he's the moron, he needs to defend his position because he's physically and mentally incapable of making mistakes, so it cannot be his fault.
      These two were willing to carry his underperforming ass to multiple victories, and despite putting up with his bullshit for around an hour STILL were respectful about telling him how fucking stupid and bad he is.
      His response was to stamp his feet and throw a tantrum.
      So you may say he's never been good with actual gunplay, and that's fine and I agree, but he's also never been worse at it than he is currently, and his tactics, his positioning, his crosshair placement, his awareness and his gamesense are all at such subpar levels that he isn't even aware of when he's being hard carried to victory.
      ...and he's a 450lb asshole about it, at the same time.

      @@AlexDPS3 no problem..
      100% correct. He has never grown from any of it.
      He doesn't even grow in game. If you give him a tip, like for example maybe don't rush two guys when you've only got a pistol, the best you can hope for is being berated for it. It's almost exclusively a ban.
      He has a one week follower timer before you can comment in chat, and I honestly don't think I'll make it that long, despite having signed up Monday, and having only watched like three streams.
      It's the same story everyday.
      He talks shit about PKA all the time, also woody _ESPECIALLY_ DSP and Keemstar (who deserves it, but was still a super good friend to him). He bans at least three people who did nothing wrong each day, and he just nuked half his moderators.
      Guy is out of control, and I'm not even getting started on squandering his weight loss surgery, burning so many bridges he can't even play rainbow six because literally every person who would play with him has been banned or unfriended (he can't for a squad of five people out of a 550+ viewerbase), or the fact that if he wasn't early on UA-cam, and such a focus of negative attention he'd have maybe three people watching him play everyday.
      He's had every chance to turn this around, but because he's so dumb, so socially awkward, and is still living a decade in the past he'll never pull out of this dive.
      He's not helped by eating entire sandwiches on camera in four bites, or by not chewing his food either.
      The other day he downed an apple in three bites. I'm not exaggerating. Three bites. That's madness.
      Absolutely zero redeeming qualities.

I don't blame him for etika, the dude was going crazy and probably would've offed himself even without people pushing him to do it.
