If Wings simply said, " well, that's what I get for talking shit, good game Syndicate", everyone would have respected him tremendously. It wasn't even a crushing defeat, but his reaction turned it into one. It's a shame really.

Not even close to reality, thats the midset of a child. Its so insignificant compared to actual real world history. There are millions of people who have never heard of either of them.
I really disliked Jordie's comments about how ditch diggers "fucked up in life." No, those are people that often choose to work various public service jobs so people like Jordie have roads they can drive on. Or buildings that are well maintained he can enter. Or have clean streets not overrun with trash because someone chose to get into sanitation.
I agree but tbh i don't believe people wake up an have to go to their "ditch digging" job or any equivalent job and think to themselves im doing this to make the world better. They are doing it because its all they know if you gave anyone doin those jobs a chance at more they'd take it. Even if it means the roads are slightly worse off 🤣
@@jamesmcguinness6195 someone's gotta do it, maybe not because it's their first choice of job you're right, but the last thing anyone should do is shame you for your occupation
This story has always struck me as such a pitiful tragedy. Wings is a dude with a lot of very valid anxieties but every single time he can make a choice of how to deal with them he chooses the most toxic one. He needs attention from people but he also hates it because attention means pressure and pressure means failure and failure means perceived worthlessness and he can’t handle that. He wants support but he hates asking for it and he wants to be understood but he hates being known and he wants to win but he hates to lose and it’s just… it’s sad, man.
Yeah, I've been there. As much as the guy is a dick, I can't help but pity him I've been there with weight. Not nearly as much as him, but I was nearly 300lbs at one point. At that point it just seems so insurmountable. When you exercise, you're paranoid people are judging you, you wanna just eat food because youre in a shit mood all the time, it takes such deep reserves of willpower to start shifting the pounds. I've lost 4 stone since last year but it's been difficult. I honestly hope Wings *can* find a way to shift his weight because he'd actually become such a better person for it. Not cause fat people are evil or some dumb thing like that, but because he would *know* he isn't a failure, no matter what anyone tells him
This is too perfect of an explanation of Wings. The only thing I’d add is that in many of these situations he’s trying hard to control everything. He wants to control the narrative, people’s actions, what people say about him etc. He especially does this when he says something shocking and gets called out for it. He wants to say stuff to shock people (like the story where he claimed to have left a cat under a bucket and forgot about it), but doesn’t want to deal with any repercussions that come with it.
@@blueorpheus5693 I wonder if he's acutely aware he can't control everything (or even anything, at this point), and that's why he tries to. He seeks to prove himself wrong, even though deep down, he knows he's right I wonder which came first, his desire to control, or his knowledge that he can't
its the driving force behind why I, 1: don't want to get into online competitive gaming, and 2: why i try not to share super personal information online. i already look like a toxic incel, id rather not let myself actually become one. because i know i would not be able to handle an environment like the one wings initially put himself inn.
Woody tried SO HARD, to keep Wings afloat. He tried SO HARD to keep his feet on the ground. He was a true friend. I think the worst thing Wings has done is completely ignore Woody's friendship and not listen to what he said.
Really? Maybe they meant well at some point, but from what I can see they were all toying with him a bit. He was a challenge, another game. A true friend would have recognised that Jordie needed inpatient psychiatric therapy. A true friend wouldn't go publicly streaming all the details. This is more like reality TV with no oversight.
@@TheDotBot nah like I get ur point but if they're ur friend you try your hardest to help but if they are fine with streaming and aren't helping themselves not much you can do literally. Like they cant just cut him off from their group if they're streaming think of how much worse that would have went
@@joshuaslowey71 That's my point, there's nothing they could do. Most of us have known people we've wanted to help but couldn't. And some of us have had more than a bad day ourselves. It's frustrating and soul-destroying and everything when all friends can do is provide a list of phone numbers to call, but we learn from it and move on without commodifying the experience. I'm not suggesting they cut him out of the group, but why do they have to "fix" him? It was supposed to be a gaming gig. It's ok, I know, it was part of the show and yes they were all ok with it, but it's like they'd all made some kind of agreement to use each other for their own "career". That's not a friendship, it's more like a working relationship where what they're selling is their personal life for a bit of shitty online drama. I don't see how that can go well. Wings gets a pass from me as he genuinely needed professional help. He was also easy to manipulate. The others, nope. They're adults, they're not stupid or anything, and they knew from the start that Wings was emotionally unstable. I don't even think they're bad people but good people can have terrible ideas. Even so, they instigated this shit show, it's 100% on them when it goes tits up.
Seeing the end credit chat between Wings and Woody is so bittersweet. Woody is still friendly and the banter is still there but you can feel the distance and lack of the close friendship they once had. Wings fucked up and broke it and he can't put it back together again. Woody seemed like such a genuine and supportive friend but now he'll always just be a distant polite acquaintance at best, more likely one day a complete stranger.
I would personally feel so unbelievably grateful if I had a friend like Woody. He seems to have near bottomless patience with people and seems like a kind soul.
Revisiting this video and the moment where Jordie breaks the controller and Woody says “we’ve all been there” and Jordie says “fuck you” is a lot. Woody was being a great friend and Jordie just threw that back in his face. Damn.
It’s great seeing people like you are finally becoming aware of him. I’ve known about him since 2009 or 2010, then rediscovered him in 2017 when he had that breakdown on stream when he was playing COD:WW2 and I’ve been following him ever since. No, the Internet at large is the Wild West. UA-cam is just one frontier town with an overzealous sheriff. The further away from the popular websites and closer to the Chans you go, the less zealous the sheriffs get, until you reach absolute lawlessness and anarchy.
As someone with depression, it's really hard to watch Wings' life spiral down. Moments like 1:35:40 you can see how much pain he's in. You can see he is TRULY hurting. But he sees himself as a perpetual victim and never takes real accountability for his life, happiness, or health (physical and mental). I want to cheer for him. I want him to get better. But there are deep rooted mental health issues he refuses address.
His line "I hate my life" gives the mindset away. I used to be like him, and the way people like that see life is as a static set of circumstances you're given. But now I see life as something you work on, like a painting or a car. There are some limits you're faced with or things that are just circumstance, but just as much of life is the result of your choices.
Update: Him and Boogie are getting together to start a podcast. Might be worth checking out if you want to help him but not encourage/support his bad habits.
@LateNightTableCo That's actually extremely interesting, because while I was watching the Boogie documentary he reminded me directly of the Wings I saw in this one. From those depictions of their lives and mentalities, the both of them seemed to me (absolutely not a psychiatrist) to be "covert narcissists" and I thought that, if they met, they'd find validation in each others' bad habits and victimhood mentalities. I was kinda hoping it wouldn't happen, because I assumed it would be terrible for both of them as human beings, but here we are. I hope my theory of them enabling their own bad habits and refusal to take accountability won't come to fruition. As far as I can tell, the only way for the two of them to get better is to stop deflecting and acting like the victims of some uncontrollable circumstance when they are the victims of their own decisions. And when people point out what they're doing wrong, don't assume the comments must be made in bad faith; more bullies from the mean ol' internet who just want to see them suffer because they cannot accept that they brought the hate on themselves through their actions, but acknowledge what is wrong with their behavior and change it. When Wings turned on Woody after the duel... that was hurtful. These actions cause genuine damage, but if they can only see themselves as pure victims, they'll never acknowledge how their behavior hurts others.
I don't. His return from winning the boxing fight could've brought his old viewers back if he started losing weight and humbled himself. But no. He literally went back to Rainbow/MW3 streams with the same attitude like nothing ever happened. He's still banning members, still raging, still begging for donations.
@@thehungrylittlenihilistThe reason he sees his life like that isn’t some lack of motivation. It’s mental illness clouding his reality. You treating mental illness like a “mindset” that can be overcome through rational thought is insane.

One of the most heartbreaking parts of this is seeing his playful, supportive friend group go from trying to help him out, council him and provide good energy to openly talking about how awful he was to deal with and mocking him. Well in my opinion and experience that's a big part of the process of depressive people. "Not being able to do anything about it" frees you from responsibility about your situation. Yeah it leaves you miserable and self-pitying. But that's often a better place to be than "I could have pulled myself up and didn't". This rejection of responsibility for oneself takes many forms: fake nihilism (nothing matters anyway, why bother?); extremly low self-esteem (I'm don't actually deserve to get better); shifting blame (it's everyone else's fault), and so on.
Biting the bullet is hard. There is a real threat of failure. Or just discomfort. It seems wingsofredemption was stuck in a hard position. Lots of money and comfort. He'd probably need to go back to some low end job. Tough decision. A good example of the grass being greener on the other side.
Yeah, this channel does such a great job covering stuff like this. It can't be easy to parse through all this info in general and weed out what doesn't matter, but it's always enough context that it doesn't drag but you still know exactly what's going on without really leading the viewer. I know so little about CoD, but you just watch that section and you completely understand what's going on, why they're reacting the way they are, and what this match is like without having to even see that much footage.

Seeing ProSyndicate call Wings out for match-fixing knowing he would go on to make fake videos of him winning money on the children's gambling site he co-owned is kinda funny, almost as funny as Keemstar calling Wings a bully.
it's almost inspiring in a way, if that was a children's tale I would see both of them as sides of the same personality, the one that keeps telling you to keep pushing it, to move forward and never give up and the other that let's the past drag you down, that let's the opinion of others control you, all I know is that life you be easier if more people were like woody
The sad part is woody was doing all he knew, but he didn't know how to help. I really wish wings finds some people who actually care for him and that he doesnt shut them out.
Especially after that shit with his mother. He paid off her home and she proceeds to mortgage it off again, saying "OH THIS TIME YOU'LL GET IT ONCE YOU PAID IT OFF." Then the shit where he just deposited the money into her account so his credit didn't benefit, like WTF YOU DOING MAN?
I feel so bad for Woody, he tried so hard and did everything he could to stand up for his friend while also being good enough not to encourage his negative behavior - classic example of how you simply can't save someone who refuses to help themselves.
I remember watching this all go down back in the day and man, Woody deserved so much better. He's a legitimately good person and seeing him get abused and berated by Wings over the course of YEARS hurts.
Extremely, INCREDIBLY ironic for Wings to tell Woody and Syndicate that if you find yourself in a shitty situation that causes you misery, then you deserve said misery for letting yourself get into that situation, and then spending the next ten fucking years complaining about how terrible his situation and it's not his fault and it's unfair that people keep fucking with him.
The sad part about his duel with Syndicate is that he said if he lost he'd hear about it for years, which did happen, but only because he made such a big deal about losing. Self-fulfilling prophecies are a bitch.
I dunno if you're aware, but wings is not really a particularly above average player anymore. I mean, he's probably better than any squeaker, and he knows the maps, but he loses just about every 1v1 engagement he gets into. I believe his KD is somewhere around 1.2. When you combine that with his awful personality, his ban happy way of modding his twitch chat (he just recently unbanned over 3,000 people... many of whom were subscribers, AND that seems to be only about half of the people he's banned) the fact that he gets views at all is amazing. I quite honestly cannot figure out how this man maintains any sort of income.
@@iami3rian394 He was never really a particularly strong player when it came to 1v1 engagements tbh. He was always just decent at knowing the maps, playing slow and finding good places to headglitch. @@AlexDPS3 so I was watching his stream today. He's playing trios. Final two teams, all six people still alive. Ally calls in a cluster, and he panics and thinks it's an enemy cluster and runs out of cover for a second, gets his armor shredded. The other two allies are spread out in cover (trees), attacking one dude, while the other two are shooting at Wings. Without a word, he Leroy Jenkins out from behind his rock (relatively safe), and charges straight at one of the two guys shooting him and gets gunned down. He goes bananas, SCREECHING at his teammates. They point out they had no idea he was gonna charge out of cover, as he didn't call it out. Chat agrees with them, and tells wings to calm down and that he's wrong. "Mods, ban xxxname (a sub) and yyyname (a gifted sub)" Mods: "No, they're right, you expected your team to read your mind, this guy (skibbles, one of his teammates pointing out how absolutely fucking mind dull you have to be to make such a move, nevermind to do it without calling it... only he says it respectfully... also a sub, and has played numerous games with him, again top ten or wins) has valid points. You screwed up, you lost the match for the team." Wings: bans half of chat, IN sub only mode (so literally his actual fans), BOTH moderators (one legit said nothing), and of course anyone who says the words "mind reading" or "call-out " He unfriends and blocks both teammates, DESPITE having won last game and this game finishing second, and bans skibbles from the chat. The other guy was a paypig, so there's legit no way he's gonna ban him. It's actions like these, which occur every stream, that causes his viewership to dwindle. If the same thing happened, only he was one of the two tree people, he'd be screaming at his team like children about how important callouts are, but because he's the moron, he needs to defend his position because he's physically and mentally incapable of making mistakes, so it cannot be his fault. These two were willing to carry his underperforming ass to multiple victories, and despite putting up with his bullshit for around an hour STILL were respectful about telling him how fucking stupid and bad he is. His response was to stamp his feet and throw a tantrum. So you may say he's never been good with actual gunplay, and that's fine and I agree, but he's also never been worse at it than he is currently, and his tactics, his positioning, his crosshair placement, his awareness and his gamesense are all at such subpar levels that he isn't even aware of when he's being hard carried to victory. ...and he's a 450lb asshole about it, at the same time.

He has a one week follower timer before you can comment in chat, and I honestly don't think I'll make it that long, despite having signed up Monday, and having only watched like three streams. It's the same story everyday. He talks shit about PKA all the time, also woody _ESPECIALLY_ DSP and Keemstar (who deserves it, but was still a super good friend to him). He bans at least three people who did nothing wrong each day, and he just nuked half his moderators. Guy is out of control, and I'm not even getting started on squandering his weight loss surgery, burning so many bridges he can't even play rainbow six because literally every person who would play with him has been banned or unfriended (he can't for a squad of five people out of a 550+ viewerbase), or the fact that if he wasn't early on UA-cam, and such a focus of negative attention he'd have maybe three people watching him play everyday. He's had every chance to turn this around, but because he's so dumb, so socially awkward, and is still living a decade in the past he'll never pull out of this dive. He's not helped by eating entire sandwiches on camera in four bites, or by not chewing his food either. The other day he downed an apple in three bites. I'm not exaggerating. Three bites. That's madness. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities.
1:11:42 This is the most depressing part of the video in my opinion. Wings genuinely sounds like he is willing to make the change of his life but falls short anyways. It’s too bad we never got to see the wings that improved his life, kept his old friends, and maintain his podcast.
I want to feel bad for Wings, but he does *NOTHING* to help his situation. *NOTHING* , and whenever someone tries to help him, he either bans them or he does nothing to meet them in the middle and then blames them for not helping him at all.
It really sucks but the best thing you can do in those situations is to just leave them behind. If they genuinely want the help they will make an effort to get it, but when you have someone who doesn’t want to actually get better, they aren’t gonna let you help them and instead they will hurt you. They don’t want to come out of their cave, they just want to bring others in.
The ONLY thing i feel bad for is all the streamers who criticized him, and are now doing the exact same thing. I don't feel bad for Wings personally, but it frustrates me to see streamers doing these things today after. Doxing other streamers, using offensive rhetoric, and getting over offended when faced with criticism.
I loved this entire documentary, but your in-depth breakdown of the match between Syndicate and Wings was easily my favourite part. It was so enthralling to watch that I went back and watched it all over again.

As much as the guy is a dick, I can't help but pity him
I've been there with weight.
He seeks to prove himself wrong, even though deep down, he knows he's right

To have a good friend, you need to BE a good friend.
Wings has no idea how to do that.
Poor Woody, such a good soul
Really? Maybe they meant well at some point, but from what I can see they were all toying with him a bit. He was a challenge, another game. @@joshuaslowey71 That's my point, there's nothing they could do. Most of us have known people we've wanted to help but couldn't. And some of us have had more than a bad day ourselves. I'm not suggesting they cut him out of the group, but why do they have to "fix" him? It was supposed to be a gaming gig.
It's ok, I know, it was part of the show and yes they were all ok with it, but it's like they'd all made some kind of agreement to use each other for their own "career". Wings gets a pass from me as he genuinely needed professional help. He was also easy to manipulate. The others, nope.

I really hated Wing’s “ditch digger” comment, my Dad went from digging ditches on construction sites to VP of a national construction company. He did everything he could to give me and my brother a good life and literally went from the bottom to the top. He’s my hero, and he put in all that work for that roll of shit to belittle him and his employees as “someone who fucked up their life”
There never was a reason to give any of his views or opinions validity/legitimacy, it's just a tad easier to understand now in hindsight. Especially since it's a necessary and important job that needs to be done. In my country, street cleaners and bin men earn an absolutely ridiculous amount of money _because_ it's a thankless, but very important job.
That's why we have really clean streets - people are paid the value of their work, and in return they do their work well.
Respect to your old man. No shame in honest, hard labor
It pisses me off too, I want a career in arts since I'm a writer but I have huge respect for guys in engineering and construction. My family made their money in engineering, and I appreciate guys in any kind of construction as being the literal backbone of their country. They make sure we can drive on our roads, that we can flip our power switches, everything. Wings is just an unappreciative little wart.
There are people who put up with backbreaking labor because they envision a bright future for their family and then there are people who put up with backbreaking labor because they choose to be mediocre and never apply themselves to their full potential.

Its really hard to watch. Knowing its in his control and pushing himself further down; exasperating it all. Relatable to a point.
it's not just him. I've known people to be stuck in dead-end jobs, knowing they could do something with that fuckin biology degree or some shit, but not wanting to get rid of their stable income to chase something they'd actually enjoy. my girlfriend does front end web programming and despises every second of it, she has dreams of going back to school and becoming a doctor of biology, but she just won't do it because it's hard to look at $3500/month of stable income and say "yeah, I can change fields now"
Well in my opinion and experience that's a big part of the process of depressive people.

As I'm sure you're aware, this was particularly an upset to him as at the time Syndicate was known as a zombies player and he didn't realise that he was actually pretty decent at multiplayer.
"Mods, ban xxxname (a sub) and yyyname (a gifted sub)"
Mods: "No, they're right, you expected your team to read your mind, this guy (skibbles, one of his teammates pointing out how absolutely fucking mind dull you have to be to make such a move, nevermind to do it without calling it... only he says it respectfully... also a sub, and has played numerous games with him, again top ten or wins) has valid points. You screwed up, you lost the match for the team."
Wings: bans half of chat, IN sub only mode (so literally his actual fans), BOTH moderators (one legit said nothing), and of course anyone who says the words "mind reading" or "call-out "
He unfriends and blocks both teammates, DESPITE having won last game and this game finishing second, and bans skibbles from the chat.

@@AlexDPS3 no problem..
100% correct. He has never grown from any of it.
He doesn't even grow in game. If you give him a tip, like for example maybe don't rush two guys when you've only got a pistol, the best you can hope for is being berated for it. It's almost exclusively a ban.

Never heard about Wings before. But everytime I start feeling bad for this guy, he does something that kills that budding compassion.
@Aurelius WAIT WHAT
@Aurelius he was like 5 right lmao
@Socrates when has wings scammed people? first ive heard of this

I must say, you are an amazing narrator. So many on UA-cam use bad grammar, mispronounce many words, and use a small vocabulary. You do a great job. Subscribed!
Hearing the 360 notification noise over and over with ridiculous gamertags on-screen was wonderfully nostalgic, thank you for that.
Ghenry Perez Extra I miss it too

Remember when u use to get a free month xbox live?,Man i used to exploit the fuk outta dat shit!...Ah the good ol days!
You would’ve thought that the spectator would have just turned off notifications for this highly viewed match (also I love your videos Perez)

His freaking mom went back on her promise after he paid off her house, then got a second mortgage. Holy crap. That’s awful.
Well we see where he learned to be a lying backstabbing piece of shit...
Or that may be where his issues are coming from. Upbringing, eating himself out of depression, circle repeat
@@joppekim unfortunately reminds me a lot of Boogie. Some of his problems he has created for himself, some is not his fault at all. Its shitty in general.
@@Madchris8828 Yeah. I guess what they all have in common is that they refuse to listen, That is a telltale sign of depression, and they should all quit the internet, at least for a while, it is not healthy.

It's great to do easy schoolwork to. Stuff you don't have to focus on too much.
@@9393jack my ADHD won't let me do that but FK is a great watch while I'm playing video games.
@@trueblueclue I have ADD and I can do it, maybe you can!
Well... I'm also medicated for it so maybe that's not a fair thing to say
@@9393jack I guess. I just learned to study in silence so it's tough to go the other way but kudos for not needing silence.
Wings goes through all this emotional ruination and still says he’d rather do that then work at a call centre or theatre. That’s insane.
Call centers are for npcs
I've worked retail several times. At this point I'd honestly rather be dead. Not because of disrespect for the workers, my last job several of us were saving for law school, but the emotional and physical toll it takes on me. Being treated like absolute trash by multiple people daily while you're in mounting physical pain is too much.
@@moomyung9231Honestly why i haven't worked at retail, even though i have gotten job offers to go to it. I had friends who worked at retail that looked legit depressed and tired. Even one of their coworkers was taking antidepressants because the job was genuinely so bad that they were severely depressed.
ngl playing games all day and reading a funny deaththreat from time to time is still preferable to retail work xD
