This story has always struck me as such a pitiful tragedy. Wings is a dude with a lot of very valid anxieties but every single time he can make a choice of how to deal with them he chooses the most toxic one. He needs attention from people but he also hates it because attention means pressure and pressure means failure and failure means perceived worthlessness and he can’t handle that. He wants support but he hates asking for it and he wants to be understood but he hates being known and he wants to win but he hates to lose and it’s just… it’s sad, man.

I've been there with weight. Not nearly as much as him, but I was nearly 300lbs at one point. At that point it just seems so insurmountable. When you exercise, you're paranoid people are judging you, you wanna just eat food because youre in a shit mood all the time, it takes such deep reserves of willpower to start shifting the pounds.
I've lost 4 stone since last year but it's been difficult. I honestly hope Wings *can* find a way to shift his weight because he'd actually become such a better person for it. Not cause fat people are evil or some dumb thing like that, but because he would *know* he isn't a failure, no matter what anyone tells him

The only thing I’d add is that in many of these situations he’s trying hard to control everything. He wants to control the narrative, people’s actions, what people say about him etc. He especially does this when he says something shocking and gets called out for it. He wants to say stuff to shock people (like the story where he claimed to have left a cat under a bucket and forgot about it), but doesn’t want to deal with any repercussions that come with it.

Seeing the end credit chat between Wings and Woody is so bittersweet.
Woody is still friendly and the banter is still there but you can feel the distance and lack of the close friendship they once had. Wings fucked up and broke it and he can't put it back together again.
Woody seemed like such a genuine and supportive friend but now he'll always just be a distant polite acquaintance at best, more likely one day a complete stranger.

One of the most heartbreaking parts of this is seeing his playful, supportive friend group go from trying to help him out, council him and provide good energy to openly talking about how awful he was to deal with and mocking him. He proved so toxic that they don't feel they owe him any more kindness or sympathy.

It was weird seeing his origins. I only know him from the negative stuff he's said about mental health... I guess if you surround yourself with hate for so long, it changes you.
As someone with depression, it's really hard to watch Wings' life spiral down. Moments like 1:35:40 you can see how much pain he's in. You can see he is TRULY hurting. But he sees himself as a perpetual victim and never takes real accountability for his life, happiness, or health (physical and mental).
I want to cheer for him. I want him to get better. But there are deep rooted mental health issues he refuses address.
His line "I hate my life" gives the mindset away. I used to be like him, and the way people like that see life is as a static set of circumstances you're given. But now I see life as something you work on, like a painting or a car. There are some limits you're faced with or things that are just circumstance, but just as much of life is the result of your choices.
Update: Him and Boogie are getting together to start a podcast. Might be worth checking out if you want to help him but not encourage/support his bad habits.
@LateNightTableCo That's actually extremely interesting, because while I was watching the Boogie documentary he reminded me directly of the Wings I saw in this one. From those depictions of their lives and mentalities, the both of them seemed to me (absolutely not a psychiatrist) to be "covert narcissists" and I thought that, if they met, they'd find validation in each others' bad habits and victimhood mentalities. I was kinda hoping it wouldn't happen, because I assumed it would be terrible for both of them as human beings, but here we are. I hope my theory of them enabling their own bad habits and refusal to take accountability won't come to fruition.
As far as I can tell, the only way for the two of them to get better is to stop deflecting and acting like the victims of some uncontrollable circumstance when they are the victims of their own decisions. And when people point out what they're doing wrong, don't assume the comments must be made in bad faith; more bullies from the mean ol' internet who just want to see them suffer because they cannot accept that they brought the hate on themselves through their actions, but acknowledge what is wrong with their behavior and change it. When Wings turned on Woody after the duel... that was hurtful. These actions cause genuine damage, but if they can only see themselves as pure victims, they'll never acknowledge how their behavior hurts others.
I don't. His return from winning the boxing fight could've brought his old viewers back if he started losing weight and humbled himself. But no. He literally went back to Rainbow/MW3 streams with the same attitude like nothing ever happened. He's still banning members, still raging, still begging for donations.
The one thing I’ve learned through all these down the rabbit hole videos is the more you involve your mental health with your online presence the worse your life will be

I really hated Wing’s “ditch digger” comment, my Dad went from digging ditches on construction sites to VP of a national construction company. He did everything he could to give me and my brother a good life and literally went from the bottom to the top. He’s my hero, and he put in all that work for that roll of shit to belittle him and his employees as “someone who fucked up their life”
There never was a reason to give any of his views or opinions validity/legitimacy, it's just a tad easier to understand now in hindsight. A ridiculous person spouting ridiculous things for shock comedy (many of us, particularly younger demographics were more prone to "edginess" during that era tbf), and the comments he made towards Whiteboy from that same interview should be all you need to hear to disregard anything surrounding them.
Especially since it's a necessary and important job that needs to be done. In my country, street cleaners and bin men earn an absolutely ridiculous amount of money _because_ it's a thankless, but very important job.
That's why we have really clean streets - people are paid the value of their work, and in return they do their work well.

It pisses me off too, I want a career in arts since I'm a writer but I have huge respect for guys in engineering and construction. My family made their money in engineering, and I appreciate guys in any kind of construction as being the literal backbone of their country. I've worked retail several times. At this point I'd honestly rather be dead. Not because of disrespect for the workers, my last job several of us were saving for law school, but the emotional and physical toll it takes on me. Being treated like absolute trash by multiple people daily while you're in mounting physical pain is too much.

I just watched a 2 hour documentary about a UA-camr I literally never heard of until this video. My priorities are straight.
It’s great seeing people like you are finally becoming aware of him. I’ve known about him since 2009 or 2010, then rediscovered him in 2017 when he had that breakdown on stream when he was playing COD:WW2 and I’ve been following him ever since. It’s so fascinating seeing how a 32 year old manchild reacts to people he’s never met saying mean things to him over the internet. Same with Boogie.

Although I find Wings terrifying in a lot of deeply uncomfortable ways, I can't imagine being the kind of person who would hurt him on purpose. This man clearly lives in a personal hell. I think the thing about this video that always haunts me are the moments where Wings just never wants to change very critical things that make him unhappy. "I can't stop 'X', it's part of my personality" is a statement that begs for you to stay put and not change that part of you when you *have* to be willing to change it. And the horrible, awful thing about change is that it's never fast and painless. The hard part of change is that you gotta do it every day. It gets easier but you gotta do it every day, and that's the hard part. It's easy to stop and "get a lazy bug" but really it's a breakdown of the discipline you developed combined with a lack of motivation to start again.
I can only hope I never end up like Wings and I can only hope that, by some miracle, he manages to pull through and become the better person he should be.
