I've never seen Star Trek and yet love both The Big Bang Theory AND William Shatner. And I'm a mid 1960's baby, so it's not an age thing either. I've also never seen the film E.T. I have however seen the first Star Wars movie. Queued up for 2 hours for it on it's original release in 1977. Loved it immensely. Never had the urge to watch another. Mark Hamill is to this day one of my favourite actors. And I genuinely teared up when he appeared in a cameo in TBBT. Love the man. A true gentleman of the film industry.
I'm probably a decade ahead of you. I didn't watch Star Trek in its original run, even though I was probably its target demographic. It mostly had to do with being in a household with six people, one TV, and no VCR technology. My viewing choices frequently got voted down. In college during the mid-70s, a friend and I would hurry home from our last class minutes before the 3pm rerun of Star Trek started and play backgammon. We were never on time. Which prompted one of us to say "Hurry, Captain Kirk is already a prisoner". Then came the contest of which of us could name the episode first. That saying about Kirk being a prisoner became a tag line for whenever we were late for something.
I feel sorry for the actress who played Katie in the pilot. Imagine shooting a pilot for what would become the most successful sitcom of the 2000's, only to be replaced. To be fair, Kaley Cuoco gels more with the show.
What scared me is what happened to the actress is pretty much similar to Penny on the show. They're both struggling actresses that kept auditioning and when they thought they finally got the part, they were thrown away last minute and they had to continue the endless loop until they eventually called it quit (for Penny's case, of course, not sure about the actress who played Katie, though). She must had felt frustrated that the show that she got kicked out turned out to be the most successful sitcom of the 2000s and 2010s, even rivaling to Friends, Seinfeld and HIMYM in terms of popularity and pop culture influential.
Another fact about the Big Bang theory was that in there was another character that was in the original pilot name Glinda she was Sheldon and Lenard’s friends and both of them were her crush, she was just like them. She was eventually replaced by Raj and Howard.
Amazing video ms mojo of surprise facts that people did not know about the hit sitcom the Big Bang theory show, fantastic job. I love big bang theory back then and now not so much now.
@@donniemedlin4217 Wow, And all this time I thought they chose Katey Sagal to be Penny's mom because of "8 Simple Rules" - Gemma gives Penny way More Street Creed, and Bad Ass Attitude. Oh how I loved Penny.
Shout out to the amazing and still beautiful Katey Sagal. I've been watching her since I was a kid and she has been in a bunch of my favorite sitcoms and series. Married With Children, That 70s Show, Futurama, Sons of Anarchy, and Big Bang
Don’t forget “8 Simple Rules,” the show that gave Kaley Cuoco her big break as Katey and the late John Ritter’s daughter. It was fitting that Katey played Kaley’s mom in TBBT, too.
When they were talking about there only being one set of stairs and how they really lead to nowhere, I had an immediate flashback to a behind the scenes bit for The Secret World of Alex Mack way back in the 90s. The showed how when the girls had to go up the stairs to their room, there was just a flight of stairs and nothing else. Fun fact: Katy Segal , who played Penny's mom on this show, also played her mom on the show 8 Simple Rules (for Dating my Teenage Daughter), who also starred John Ritter.
The crew who made that prop didn’t realize that the name would be visible on camera but it was just a random place holder for the scene and not penny’s actual surname
This was confirmed somewhere way back when it was revealed that the show's creator was a big fan of the magical act of "Penn and Teller." Thus, Penny Teller. Sorry, but I don't have a link to collaborate my statement but it does make sense
Ok now that is kind of surprising but of I had good eyesight I would probably pop out the lunches in my glasses too and I would still wear them lol 6:28
I knew who Sheldon and Leonard were named after. I didn't know that about Howard. I didn't know that about the Barenaked Ladies theme song. That's really cool. And it's the best TV show theme song ever IMO I knew that about the episode titles. I knew it was the longest-running live action sitcom. I didn't know it set a record for renewals. I didn't know #16 but it's not surprising. He's a really good actor. 5:02 Actually, if you watch the Haunting Hour episode "Near Mint Condition," you will see just that: a character who acts like Sheldon but looks more like Leonard. I thought it was cool. Anyway, Johnny made a mistake by turning down the role of the show's most important character. Yes, things worked out fine for him, but he wasn't the reason the show was successful. No one watched it for Leonard. Sheldon is why most of us watched it. We grew to like the other characters but Sheldon was really the reason we watched it. Jim Parsons ended up winning a lot more awards than any other actor who played a main character on this show. Those could have been Johnny's awards. Johnny could have been the reason the show was successful. Instead, the show was successful, and he was just along for the ride. Then again, would he have played Sheldon as well as Jim did? Probably not. I knew #14. THAT was a good choice by Johnny. Melissa Rauch also wore fake glasses. That's how she got the job. Only Mayim's glasses were real. I thought Mayim was a harp player before The Big Bang Theory, but apparently not. Great job by her and Jim. I knew #12. It was really cool that those women remained part of the show though their character appeared in very few episodes. I knew #11 I didn't know #10, but I'm glad they made that change. I think every long-time fan of the show knew #9. That's a commonly discussed topic. It's weird, but I fail to see why it's important. Yes, I knew #8. She is the only actress who plays a major character on the show and has the degree that her character has. And yes, I noticed that mention of her in the physics bowl episode. I didn't know the girl from the wonder years was the girl who did Abby. I knew #7. Personally, I don't like that fake voice. Why did she do that? Her normal voice is much better I knew #6 and it's a good thing that they did I didn't know #5 I've seen the original Pilot, so I knew that. When you have a character like Sheldon, all the other characters need to do is not be insufferably bad and the show will be a huge hit. Katie is... insufferably bad. That's why it wasn't picked up with her. I knew #3. It makes Jim's acting even more impressive. I didn't know #2. Since the lawsuit failed, it's not important to me I didn't know #1
Penny's maiden name is Teller. On Season 2:Episode 18-The Work Song Nanocluster, Penny's last name is shown on a shipping label. There, mystery solved 😊
A show about theoretical science being 'scientifically accurate' is somewhat of a stretch I feel we can all agree? Most of Hawkins' stuff is pie in the sky little more than 5 years after his passing. I love the show as a sitcom. But the science part of it is in itself comedically inept.
It would have been awesome if producers gave credit to the woman for “Soft Kitty” in some form. If the family could sue bc of it with more validity, well that’s why humility is so f’n rare. But I’d love for EVERYONE to take this path no matter the possible loss. This is THE ONLY way, to get what YOU, yes you, dream about as always … in the distance. You’ve got to jump. Hop. Step… You’ve got to do what you’ve never done. You’ll get what you’ve never had. Keep focused. Ever read those black (ink) and white (background) at end credits? Flashes quickly at end.

Where Howard’s name came from
I knew most of these. Learning that Mayim didn't previously play the harp was the most surprising one for me
Mayim Bialik has gotten into trouble for her "are vaccines actually good?" positions in her podcast.
They asked the Katie actress to read the Penny lines but they didn't believe her on the new dialogues so they replaced her with Kaley Cuoco.
Thanks!
Thank you for supporting our channel!
I already know a few facts about TBBT, but thanks for more, MsMojo.

At least for me Mark was the greatest Joker. And if it wasn't for his Joker we would've never got Harley Quinn

The first actress didn't have the same chemistry with Johnny and Jim that Kayley had.
Thats what happens in Hollywood, you just gotta keep auditioning until you land a role.

Kinda turned out to be Leslie Winkle but with minor changes
I knew most of these but the Raj actor I didn’t know he got the part right away. Good for him!
Same!

They've come out and confirmed that is NOT her last name

gerry wilson did a bit of checking and found out penny's last name is teller teller played amy's father while kathy bates played hr mother
Kathy bates is a very different person. Penny's mom is Katey Segal, who also was her mom on 8 Simple Rules and who is also Leela from Futurama.
