Kingdom at EMG really segregated his talent as an individual.
It's a showcase piece for a company that makes guitar pickups. Its him with his guitar and voice, and with a backing track for the rest of the band. It shows off his talent and skill.

Actually not! Some of his songs that I love the most are very breath-taking but not necessarily crazy. Try Deadhead live at The Royal Albert hall for instance, you'll see that screaming can be very emotional. Other great ones are Stormbending or Higher, both live in Plovdiv, with a live choir and orchestra, it's mindblowing!
And if you want to be in for a emotional ride with lot of crying, you can try the Funeral/Bastard/Death Of Music trilogy preferably with the lyrics in front of your eyes, either live at Royal Albert Hall or live in Plovdiv.
ANYWAY yeah Devin is a musical god, so yeah, I hope you'll keep it up with him :p

Devin is the man! One of the best artists on the planet and this was a good mashup of some of the styles he has used on his albums. This song is very different from some of his other stuff. So many styles in one song.

Evermore, the second release from Empath, is all about a space cat too distracted to watch where they're flying, the vids awesome. Spirits will collide is anthemic, has an ape on bass, planets made out of speakers and elephants playing drums. Not to mention a hook that will live with you for days...

Welcome to the world of Progressive Metal lol glad you enjoyed it, hopefully you get a chance to check more of Devin Townsend's work. He has a very diverse catalog of sound & has a little something for everyone, plus he's worked with a Bunch of other great musicians. My personal favorites of his are his musicals about a coffee obsessed alien called Ziltoid the Omniscient haha good stuff
I'm not much into Devin, but every metalhead knows he was groundbreaking.
With all the stuff that makes you what you are and knowing the facts that all the stuffs that defines what you are clearly violate all the rules that defines if you're a metalheads, ... you're reaction is defintely the most accurate of Devin's music.

You should totally check out #Eluveitie - Call of the mountains or King ... Eluveitie is a Folk Metal band from Switzerland. The band's style incorporates characteristics of melodic death metal combined with the melodies of traditional Celtic music. I am sure you would like it

You really should download the videos you react to. It would make it easy to react to them without any internet connection and it would probably make editing easier too. (This is actually one thing I don't understand why people with reaction channels aren't doing.) Actually it's realitely easy to download videos from UA-cam in the exact quality you see on the site. One can use a tool called youtube-dl, and while it does involve typing in the download command, it's not that hard. I can help you with it if you want to try it!

The song and video are intended to recreate a sensation like a dream where every 10 seconds or so there's a random shift and different feel. It's meant to suggest the random stream of consciousness of creativity.

Genesis is such a great song because it has the ability to be enjoyed on the surface alone, yet the song is just the beginning of a very fascinating album with a great anti-suicide message (delivered well and beautifully) and the music has a wonderful representation of life's ups, downs, and randomness within that anti-suicide arc (which really feels like a story is being told, imo). You might have a different level of appreciation for the song if you looked up the lyrics to the song and read them along during the song while noting the kind of tones and musical choices made in each part. I sure did.

King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man. Early Progressive Rock. Sometimes buried under Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Rush and so on, but more often that not cited as a big inspiration for the musicians within prog. Also everything that was ever great about 70's music in a single track.
Steven Wilson - The Raven That Refused to Sing, (I would here absolutely go with the live Home Invasion version). The other side of Progressive Rock, less about the "weirdness" and more about the story. A lot of progressive albums are almost full on musical theatre in telling a story, this is an example contained in a single song. (And if you want more Steven Wilson, go with anything by Porcupine Tree).

I have had the privilege of seeing him live around 20 time with his different bands and solo (Strapping young lad, Devin Townsend Project and solo (acoustic and plugged) He is one of my favorite artists. Anything by the Devin Townsend Project is amazing and Anything Devin lays his hands on usually turns to gold. knowing your personal tastes though I Would stay away from Strapping Young Lad as they are very very heavy band with lots of growling vocal which I know your not so accustomed to. Hopefully this will be the start of your journey into Devin's world. Plus we have cookies in Devin's world so worth a visit :)

Gift of Guilt by Gojira it is heavy but they sing about real world issues they are an activist band if you read the lyrics they convey a lot and the gift of Guilt is beautiful I recommend the live version over the studio though glad you found some form of metal you enjoy
