      @@janehill9764 Thats not right. "Nur hier betreten" is correct. It is "only step here" as mentioned here before. It is only save to step on the marked spot. By stepping on the other part, the structure of the wing can be damaged.

    How in the world do these kits get better and better when they don't make them anymore :-) You're right the paint job on this one is incredible. It would have been interesting to see how they painted them in the factory. This would be at least two weeks of model time if you are building a stock kit, maybe more. Plus lettered decals drive you nuts to apply..

    Nice plane. Its a focke wulf 190 a5, flown by Hermann Graf, the first pilot in the world to shot down 200 enemy planes. The "202" in the tail means that when he started to fly that fighters, he had 202 enemy planes destroyed, but sometimes, if over the number it had painted a medal, a knights croos, with oak leaves, for example, or with oak leaves, swords and diamonds, it means that the pilot obtained that medal for that number of kills....following you. Good to see yours has the nose/ engine/ cowling intact. So many of them were delivered with this part broken off. Incidentally, this exact one is still easy to find new in the box in Europe- especially Germany. Expect to pay around 150 euros.
    For modellers, the Hobbyboss kit version is still available everywhere for around $100. It comes in the A5 or A8 versions(same kit, different markings).

      @@MilitaryVehicleReviews I remember the US collectors going crazy at the time due to failed and cancelled deliveries. A lot of people left the hobby, selling huge collections after that. Merit, if I remember correctly, gave up on new pre-built and painted 1/18 planes, sticking to kits (mostly smaller scale ships and armour) leaving only Flight Wing with the pre- built 1/18 market. Their P51's are pretty good, Mig 15 is better and their last release, the TBF Avenger, is awesome!

    Late to the comments but I had just finished a Hobby Boss FW-190A5 kit knowing the history and being the sprue parts from this model. With a lot of modifications one being adding flush rivet detail and stressed skin effects it turned out better than expected. It is posed in flight with a variable speed motor to spin the prop and is in an all metal finish. Despite the low part count that kit modellers don't care for the overall accuracy, quality and strength of the plastic is excellent. Thank You. Your video help make the decision to tackle the build. 1/18 is a perfect scale for WW2 fighters. If interested the reveal video is posted on my channel.

I think they've misspelled German words on the wing, should've said "Nur hier betreten" ( only enter here ) or "Nicht hier betreten" ( don't enter here) . Reifendrück means tire pressure. After you removed the legs my first thought was "Did Group Captain Douglas Bader did switch sides." XD The 202 marking actually is a victory marking for shooting down 202 planes. The 202 is in between a laurel crane. Typical for the time, although normally it would be used on "even" Kills like 10, 50, 100, 150, 200 and so on. The vulture with its children (teaching them to fly) on the right fuselage is the insignia of the EJgr-Ost (Ergänzungsjagdgruppe Ost) in which Graf was CO between Feb - April 43. Although the insignia on the left rear fuselage appears to be a 9./JG52 marking, it isnt. It is in fact Graf´s personalized coat of arms consisting of the 9.(Squadron)/JG52 CoA (Karaya Heart) in the center and the III.(Group)/JG52 CoA (Barbed Cross) in the left top corner, all in a yellow rectangle. The original Karaya CoA (9./JG52) has a white background (sometimes no background) and no III./JG52 insignia to it. Funny sidenote: In the US Army the actual SSI (Shoulder Sleeve Insignia or Patch) of a unit one is serving with is worn on the left shoulder, while an SSI of a former unit one went to combat with can be worn on the right shoulder. So it basically is the other way around like on Graf´s 190. ^^

    A bit late to the party, but just watched this clip. One further bit of history, you mentioned that American pilots pulled their experienced pilots back to train new pilots, and the Germans didn't. Ironically, this is exactly what this plane represents! In January 1943 Hermann Graf took command of Ergänzungs-Jagdgruppe Ost (Fighter Training Group East) based in occupied France, at St. Jean d'Angély and the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. This was his personal Fw 190A-5 allotted to him for personal use. I don't think he saw any action whilst using this aircraft (or the other similarly painted one he flew). Whilst he was the Gruppen Kommandant there, he oversaw experienced Luftwaffe fighter pilots teaching advanced dogfighting and combat skills to new pilots prior heading into combat on the Eastern Front. That, and lots of soccer! He spent a lot of his time here organising, spectating and participating in professional soccer matches, many with the national team.
    All war and no soccer, make Hermann a dull boy, eh? 😂

    • @MilitaryVehicleReviews
      @MilitaryVehicleReviews  4 місяці тому

      Good info! Didnt know that about the soccer haha. The Germans let their pilots stay in a lot longer than Americans did. For example: Hermann Graf had about 212 Aerial victories and Erich Hartmann had about 325 but the most victories for America was Major Richard Bong (P-38) only had about 40.

    FW190s never had a through the spinner cannon , BF109E / F / G did

  • @Verdunveteran
    @Verdunveteran 2 роки тому +1

    No, the FW-190 did not have a cannon mounted to shoot through the propeller shaft. That was only standard on the Bf-109F and later marks. The FW-190 only had wing mounted cannons besides the 13 mm machine guns monted in the upper engine cowling. The hole in the middle of the propeller cone on the FW-109, aswell as on the Bf-109E and the Bf-110 was sinply to access the mounting screw for the propeller. After all, damaged propellers needed to be removed and new ones fitted when necessary. And the text on the wing is horribly misspelled! It should be "Nur hier betreten" which means "Only step here" in English. The 202 on the tail is major Hermann Grafs number of kills up to the point when he was flying this perticular aircraft. Since he was a Knights Cross holder the oak leaves surrounding it probably refers to his Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. He would also earn the swords and diamonds for his Knights Cross. Only four other members of the German Armed Forces earned the diamonds for the Knights Cross. So a very rare addition to the Knights Cross indeed. Graf earned both the Knights Cross, the Oack Leafs, the Swords and the Diamonds in 1942 as a Leutnant (2nd lieutenant) and a Oberleutnant (1st Lieutnant). He was promoted to Hauptmann (Captain) three days after recieving the Diamonds for his Knights Cross. 11 days later he was promoted to Major. In February 44 he was promoted to Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant-Colonel) and on 8 May 1945, on VE-Day, he was promoted to Oberst (Colone). He was credited for a total of 212 kills, of which 202 was on the Eastern Front. And he flew 820 combat missions. Hermann Graf was, simply put, one of the best and most experienced combat fighter pilots ever! Not the only one though. He was in only 9th place from the top of the list of top scoring German fighter aces of the Second World War.
    The text above the hole in the right side of the rear of the fuselage says "Reifendrück" which literally means tire pressure in English.
    "Keine Bombe" on the drop tank means "no bomb". On the bottem it says "Achtung! Kraftstoffbehälter" however they forgot the o and misspelled the ä with an a. It means "Warning! Fuel container"

I am sorry because it is a nice painted model. 8:38 means tire pressure, this is written correctly. 9:23 means "it is not a bomb" I think as a kind of joke. 9:37 it translated " suspension leg" and "sol pressure" sol is a Latin word we use for " kind of that is the norm or best working condition for this part."

    By the way, they say it's Major Graf right?
    At the time of this FW190 Anton 5 was "Hauptmann Herman Graf"

      I love the paint job! Unfortunately I have not been able to paint very well haha. I tried my hand in model building and painting but I couldn’t get it down to anywhere near this type of paint job. I commend you and people who have that talent! Thank you for watching, I appreciate it!

    Unfortunately the writing on the wing should read "Nur hier betreten" instead of "Nu hier befreton". It means "Step here only". "Reifendruck" means "Tire pressure", although I don't think that should go there, "Hier aufbocken" would be "Support here", "Anzeigegerät" is "Indicator device".
    "Actung! Kraftstoffbehälter! is "Attention, Fuel container", "Keine Bombe!" means "Not a bomb!" Duh.

    Sadly the hole in the spinner isn’t for a cannon, only the later 190s, the D-15 etc, had them, as did the 152 series. As far as I know at least

      @@MilitaryVehicleReviews I suspect it’s representing the hole in the spinner most early 190s had, which was where the huge bolt that held the spinner on was located, although in reality the hole wasn’t as noticeable

    You are not correct in time 08:11 of your video, there is not an oil cooler. Oil cooler in Fw 190 A is ring-shaped and integrated in forward side of engine cowl. You are showing three adjustable cooling vents behind the exhauts.

      I wish they wrote Reifendruck, but they wrote Reifendrück. This is also wrong German. The verb is drücken, may be that's why. I don't understand, why they don't ask a German, like me, about it.
      Because of the wrong German This time I build the model from HobbyBoss. You can see it in one of my videos .
