Respect to the MONO driver for passing the P1. But respect to the P1 driver for pushing a car worth over $1 million, especially at an HPDE event with much slower cars and drivers with varying skill sets. Good to see the P1 being used for what it was built for.
respect to the p1 driver for "letting" the mono pass it otherwise he' be seeing the rear of the car the entire afternoon into the evening then again the next day
@@MrStevesparkz to be fair to the P1 even with the insane disadvantage it had weight wise the car still held its own thanks to its straight line speed. The P1 isn't a complete all out track monster so it's just not going to compete well against a tiny little formula type thing running circles around it in Luffield

P1 lines are due to overtaking on the track day being on the left hand side only. I was in the P1 at the time of this being shot, he wasn't in race mode and was running on the final miles of his rear tyres. The P1 driver is a professional race driver as is Oliver in the BAC, and knows the limits of the car. Which weren't being reached.
I wouldn't go so far as "no idea how to drive," the P1 is a new car and whoever is driving it is probably still getting used to it. They did blow a lot of apexes but they're probably driving in their mirrors with that BAC all over them. Even with the weight disadvantage the McLaren has more go on the straights. I'd say if the drivers/experience were equal the McLaren would have it. Great video nonetheless! 2 amazing pieces of hardware, love seeing the good stuff at the track.
Karlos Hesscobar this is more than just lack of confidence - his lines are bad. He enters early and hugs the apex throughout the entire corner. I can understand being cautious in a USD 1m car on a track, but his entry points into the corners leaves a lot to be desired.
kudason Paul Bailey: MSA Britcar Endurance Championship, Aston Martin V12 GT3, GTC Class champion British GT Championship, Ferrari 458 Challenge, GTC Class champion. Better than your fat shelf stacking ass
It's amazing how many people that have never turned a wheel on a track can come on here and talk crap about how these guys are driving! Goodness, just enjoy these two awesome cars going at it!
You spend $1.15 million on one of the newest of the new breed of hyper cars, a dual engined beast approaching 900 combined hp from its twin turbocharged V8 and electric motor. Festooned in active aerodynamics, riding on a dynamic suspension, you go to a track day at Silverstone feeling confident that only a LaFerrari or Bugatti Veyron could even sniff at you. And then you get passed on the outside by a 4-cylinder.
For those who are unaware, the driver of the P1 is not pushing it. The P1 would destroy the Mono on this particular track. Look at 2:30 where he decides to punch it, there is no contest here.
2 of my favourite cars going head to head what a video! But it's pretty obvious you can't really take much from it. BAC driver was a pro racer, whereas the P1 driver didn't have a fucking clue where he was going!
Adam Jones agree, don't think he's the best driver in the world but I suppose you really have to know what you're doing to get the most out of a P1. Either way I wish I was that guy!
Comments are too funny here. I mean, Why so serious??? Small to medium tracks always give smaller more agile vehicles a chance. These small racers are the future. They are easier to maintain and don't require a whole crew at track. Less weight means less wear on tires, chassis and brakes. The P1 has better brakes here but tires are always a issue on track. It's not in race mode for a reason. From what I read a passenger is in P1.Although weight does balance it out. P1 is probably 3600lbs. So of course lighter 1 passenger racer has a chance in corners. Without race mode P1 just a 12c with 900HP.
I actually looked up the the track size and length before commenting. True it is somewhat wide in corners and length. Seeing both side by side at speeds does reveal the width in corners.I do think such wide corners allows the lesser car to stay in speed far farther under braking. Driver can be more aggressive in throttle after P1 slows.
Jeffrey Williams Also, let us not forget DRIVE SKILL. All these Car vs. Car discussions seem to be assuming that the drivers of each respective vehicle are driving said vehicle at 100% of that vehicle's potential.
Madre mía. Increíble el BAK MONO. He visto la matricula del McL P1 muy cerca. Muchas gracias. Incredible BAK MONO. I have seen the enrollment of McL P1 close. Thank you very much.
Love a lot of the speculative Comments based on no actual facts. The P1 Owner, is well known. And is regarded as being a very skilled driver. Nothing in that video indicates hes trying to do anything other than have fun with the BAC. The P1 isnt even in full track mode. Hes likely out on the track, and playing with the BAC driver. Pulling away at will. And taking it easy through the corners. As his known abilities would clearly indicate he could take tighter and faster lines had he wanted to. Sometimes people read far to much into a video, without any FACTS
Absolutely fantastic driving all around. I am lucky enough to have relative access to a p1 and hope to drive it on track soon! The BAC mono looks like loads of fun.
The Mc has the HP for the straights for sure, which is awesome to see it pull away like that. But damn, the agility of the Mono is insane. Seeing how quickly it can enter a turn is exhilarating. I love that they've gone with a turbo in the new gen. Should make for a faster exit from turns. I hope to see a video on the new gen facing off against some of the top super cars on the track. My greatest respect to BAC and their Mono.
Everyone saying how fast P1 in straight away, well it has 900bhp. No one seem to say how well the Mono cornering speed and braking, and driver drives the hell of it especially at 3:29 with 4wheels drift going in hot!!! Shout out to both drivers.
That Mono driver gave it his all by the looks of it, tire noise noted toward the end, only the 2 drivers know if the P1 did in fact move over or if the Mono did in fact simply pass it by, why do you all care so much though? Appreciate the video for what it is, good clean noise and speed on a track with 2 tasty cars with a glimpse of some other lovely cars also, love it!
Oh and btw, if any of you are not sure who was driving the Mono, it is the guy who posted the video Oliver (says in the description) but what you might no know is he is BACs official test driver and is also an LMP2 Prototype racer. And the P1 driver is just some clown who doesen't know how to go round corners.
What a rush, thanks for the footage. I'm sure the BAC on a few occasions refrained from passing the McLaren in a few corners because he wanted to gauge the pulling ahead of said McLaren.
This only goes to show how mindblowingly quick the P1 is. The Mono is a very fast car and it obliterated it on the straight. Now, put someone who's actually driving the P1 on the limit and it would have a field day. Love those new hypercars!
Most of people here make me laugh... we all know that the P1 is faster... drag race, corners, lap times etc... we all know that Oliver Webb is a crazy good racer... but at the end of the day it's still fun to see a BAC Mono (which represent a pure form of driving) performs that well... you'd be surprise to see on UA-cam many analog and old school sports cars keeping up with crazy-dollars supercars (Stock Mustang Cobra R vs Carrera GT; Exige/Elise S1 vs Ferrari...etc..) .. the Mclaren P1 is a technological tour de force... but the BAC Mono is a pure racing road car... that's the difference!
Typical trackday driving in the P1, fast on the straights but slow around the corners and does not attempt to allow a car with a much quicker lap time through. Damn straight line hero.
Credit to Paul Bailey for allowing you to catch up in the corners. The Mono is a stupidly quick piece of kit but the way that P1 disappeared down the Hanger Straight is ridiculous...
My initial reaction is more on the front of "damn, that P1 really is quick on a track too", then you also see the difference in skills of the drivers. Which makes me give the P1 even more credits....
Why was the P1 taking such incredibly bad lines through the corners? I don't claim to be a pro racing driver but even on my first track day I knew the general idea of the racing line and how to hit an apex, and I've seen this P1 driving a lot better than this before so I can't help but think there must be a reason why he wasn't driving anywhere near the fastest route
It seems to me that the P1 driver takes a very defensive line, not that they´re actually rancing. That being said, Oliver is, at times, taking a very ofensive line, getting in late and getting out early (very ala Alonso) while the P1 is early in and late out, you can see this the first time they go trough the Ss. I’m amazed the mono can keep up with the p1. The Mclaren is ridiculous in the straights but the elite aero, agility, and brakes of the mono lets it blow through the corners
The thing over here is that the BAC driver knew the track very well and had the racing line throughout but McLaren clearly has more power to weight ratio than the Mono (approx 70 bhp per ton more) so that makes the difference, and plus the P1 is mindbogglingly fast. Fact.
It's not about drivers. It's not about cars. It's about the track. The P1 is a much more powerful but heavier car so it'll do better on straights, whereas the Mono is the complete opposite. You can see that clearly in the video. Therefore, slow and twisty tracks will be better for the BAC Mono and fast tracks with long straight sections will suit better the P1.

Big respect to the BAC Mono, really held its own against a Hypercar being driven by a professional driver. No one knows just how hard Paul Bailey was trying in the P1 but no matter what he did the BAC was up tight and close 90% of the time.
Incredible how fast the P1 pulls away on the straights!
Sast06 it is pretty crazy
Its literally like a flipping slingshot !!
The way that Bac Mono pulls the p1 on corners is insane as well XD

On street tires too.
Hea Mees in all fairness, I think that mono is a faster version than this one, or at least a more powerful one, but this is very impressive

The Mono wins in the braking zones for sure and loses on the straights. I would take the Mono
Bennett Kisla it would be so much fun to push that thing
Taking corners is more fun then going straight
