Best design features, tried and tested during the World War II, - the Daring class was designed as the UK Royal Navy super destroyer. Australia decided to build three of the Daring class destroyers. They are the last artillery ships of their type, which makes them unique.

OMG that's my old shiip! I served on Vampire in the late 70's and early 80's. I use to work in the "Batcave", though in truth I don't recall it ever being called that. They even showed the old plessey radar and potting table I used to operate. lol Thanks for that little flashback. I really should get up to Sydney (after all this lockdown) and she the old girl. Cheers and thanks again.

A point of order. Vendetta did time patrolling the Malacca Straits during the Malayan Borneo conflict in 1964. I know, I got war service, serving on her. Great ship. We also carried a platoon of Gurkhas, putting them ashore at night.
We, Vendetta also served on the “Gun Line” off Vietnam and also did our share of “Logistic Support” escorting the old Sydney in and out

Everyone since day one. Which was built in the 1930's. The 40mm bofors is called the the 40mm. No one calls it the 1.54 inch AA gun. I am big history guy. Never seen them called that.

I had to just Google it quickly cos I was like 'wtf dont they live in africa?'. Apparently a small population of ostriches was introduced into Australia in the 1890 in an attempt to farm them for meat and feathers.

I hope this is an indication they will be including Australian ships in the game. I am very fond of the Daring class as I was fortunate enough to serve on one during a naval west pack. They are not kidding when they say it was fun ship and its versatility as a destroyer are second to none in my opinion. I would love to have one of these in my port!

Not quite sure why this is considered a naval legend. The crew had a good time and they saw a bit of fighting. Didn't seem like a remarkable service history lol

They just say that at the start of all these videos. It sounds a lot better then, "Was preserved as a museum ship, so we can make promotional videos about it."
I would say it is because she represents the last of the "gunfighter" class DD's ever built for the RN and RAN. Vampire had a long career in numerous operational theatres, plus she is a link to the past and now preserved for future generations to learn about how ship's were built back then and how the crew lived. I would say it makes all these old WW2 and Cold War warriors, of all classes and types, legends in my book.

This ship NEVER fired a shot in anger, it was her sister ship HMAS VENDETTA rhetoric went to war. I was a member of the Vendetta crew for one of her voyages into Vietnamese waters.
Quite a daring design
4.5" Mk6 guns not Mk5, which were single barrel and open to the elements. I was an Artificer in the RN and have worked on 4.5" Mk6 turrets.
More than 2 and a half later and they never fixed the audio. Nice.
I lasted right up to the moment that the narrator said Australia has ostriches. Bye!

my biggest question for those ship that have torpedo tubes... how do they reload it?? by man power or with machinery?
They never carried reloads, it was a quintuple torpedo tube but was removed as “obsolete” in the early 1960s.
@@brucewoods9377 I served on Vendetta in 1965-66 and the tubes were still there then.
@@larryreedman7728 hi mate, I joined her in May ‘67 and they had already been removed 😥. She was the best ship I ever served in. I was posted to her again in ‘70 and did an “up-top” trip in her including a short bout in Viet Nam. Her last trip before they butchered her (modernised)

That's because she left harbor, sank the worthless HMS Hood and was promptly sent to the bottom.
Also german DDs spent their time in port becuase of turbine problems

Hello one and all. No the ostrich is not native to Oz but when they were released by people who no longer wished to farm them, they became a nuisance in what ever part they were released. Not kidding! I just don't recall the dates when, nor where this happened. Just like the deer, the fox , pigs etc, etc. We really are careless about our environment, are't we?
