    April 14th 2022, USS The Sullivans is taking on water after a reported serious hull breech. The leak is stabilized for now. You can help by donating to the Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park, or by donating to your local museum ship to help preserve these vessels for future generations.

    In August 1995, the second USS The Sullivans, DDG-68, an Arleigh Burke class Aegis destroyer was launched at Bath. Maine. She was christened by her sponsor, Iowa school teacher Kelly Ann Sullivan Loughren, the granddaughter of Albert Sullivan, who was lost on the Juneau. Kelly still keeps up with the crew. The ship still serves proudly today

      Michael Sullivan that’s very very very inaccurate. Those two Alreigh Burke class destroyers and the Japanese destroyer would have obliterated the aliens the second they opened fire. Overlapping fields of point defense and supportive fire would have ended the movie in 30 seconds

    my father was on the USS Sullivans 1943-45. He was Radarman First class. He was 18 years old. I imagine my grandmother, no communication, just weekly the war department visiting her South Milwaukee neighborhood and giving a family a gold star to put in their window-- as a sign their son had been killed in action. My father would make it home. The whole neighborhood gathered around as he got out of the car, his mom rushing to hug him. They sobbed. not a dry eye amongst the neighbors. A feast was planned. My father took off his Navy uniform. And ate an Armenian buffet

    At almost 80 years old, I am the youngest of the 5 Miller brothers who proudly served Our Country. My brother Harold was in Africa during WW-2. My brothers James and Eugene were in the Korean War but separated because of the Sullivans. At the time, Eugene got very sick and according to the Sullivans’ agreement, Eugene was assigned to a non combat zone and eventually sent home and given an honorable discharge. James however stayed in and was in the Vietnam war. As my brother John and I became old enough to enlist in the Army, the Army separated us. James was in Japan, John was in Germany and I was here in Buffalo on a missile base during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We all came home safely thankfully but Harold, James and Eugene have passed away. John and I are at the tail end of our journeys and will join the others and once again become the 5 Miller brothers.

    I was stationed at the US Coast Guard base Buffalo when the Sullivans was brought in we escorted her into the dock where she sits now and boarded her for a safety inspection and subsequently I toured her after she was permanently installed at the dock at the Naval Park along with the USS Little Rock.A huge piece of a naval history. If you ever get a chance to see the movie the fighting Sullivans it'll help you better understand why her name carries such a great honor.

    Fletcher Class destroyers have alot of history. I would love to see a episode on the USS Johnson of Third Fleet, Taffy 3. This destroyer is very famous in my mind as it, along with (I think) 2 other destroyers held off the Yamato , along with various other Battleships
    in the battle of Leyte Gulf. The actions of this ship saved 300k soldiers of the sixth army led by McArthur on the beach of Archipelago. Very awesome stuff. By the way, if anyone has found some cool videos on it copy a link below.

    First off great video! 2nd off, Subs could work well in WOWS...imo. Not having that really takes away from the DD play.We can't control ANTI aircraft. We can't control depth charger/headhogs. The only thing we can control are guns and torpedos. 2 main gameplay categories from the dd are left out.

      PhlyDaily Each time you try to post in the forums of WOWS about adding gameplay, the assholes, or fan boys jump and say "nah, the game is fine as it is".
      WOWS could be much better adding more manually systems (not removing the current automatic ones optionally), this would make the game much harder to master.

      Sagara Sousuke dude. adding things into the game at this stage is not adviseable, especially things that may be potentially game breaking. WoWs is yet to be released to the public for stress testing and grind abuse. I dont say i dont support phlys idea, but give the devs more time. thx

My favorite now is-After being hit by 4 Kamikaze's, he was chosen along with "about a dozen" other sailors to remain aboard while the ship was towed home. I wondered about his memory, but if you google DD-552 you will see her being towed into San Francisco with "about a dozen" sailors standing on the bow. I'm assuming that they are continuing to upgrade the museum and make a visit an enjoyable experience. My dad was with me both times, he had served on a DE during the war, and after Okinawa was transferred to a Destroyer, and during the Korean war he served on the cruiser Worcester. There is also a DE on display in Albany New York that we visited as well. Both ships are anchored in fresh water which should insure they survive a long time without any serious problems.

    The navy kept news of the brother's deaths a secret to preserve security. When the Navy finally got around informing their family, v two months had passed. The Navy sent three officers to their parent's home to inform the family. When they arrived, they were greeted by the Sullivan's father, who had been preparing for work. The ranking officer told Thomas Sullivan, "I have some news about your boys." " Which one?" Sullivan asked. " "I'm sorry," the officer replied, "all five."

    To put it mildly:
    The Sullivan brothers are why no family can have all the male members of a family serve on the same ship, at the same time -- because it is the idea that, genetically, if every drafted, and related, man died in military service, then the family they were a part of could not continue the genetic line.
    It is also a large part of the inspiration behind "Saving Private Ryan."

      While I was in Navy basic, we went through a naval history course -- and the O'Sullivan brothers came up as a tragedy during World War II, when they all died because they all were serving on the same ship.
      As a result, the US government does not allow more than 1 sibling to serve with another, nor do they draft the oldest male in any family.

    • @98765zach
      @98765zach 6 років тому +1

      Donnie Montoya well should you ever see this response, that many fletchers is a lot of steel. Steel we could use in other ships or vehicles. They were also not as glorious as battleships or carriers and they were aging badly, even by the end of the war. They didn't really have the displacement or deck to be given missiles, a very common post war armament, they were outgunned, outmanuevered, and aging, and so very few were preserved.

      +NoJokes11B It applies to families who have already lost their sons, and now daughters in battle. For the sole survivor policy to have an affect on you, a sibling of some sort must have died in combat for you to not be drafted, conscripted or sent to war.

    can you guys please make a video for the USS Enterprise (CV-6)? if that isn't a legend ship i don't know what is.
    also, I think a submarine video would be great, maybe the USS bowfin in honolulu or the USS pampanito in San Francisco (across the bridge from WG NA west)

      The Samuel B. Roberts didn't have a very long moment of glory, but she proved herself in the same battle that the Johnston did. The story of Sammy B.'s fight would be a cool one to hear too.

    I have a story I wonder if anyone can confirm. It was told me by an old U.S. sailor, Three U.S. destroyers broke through the fog in the midst of 4 IJN cruisers. The destroyers were single file, the cruisers were two by two. The lead cruiser flashed a challenge at the lead destroyer, the Yank captain had his signals officer flash the challenge to the adjacent cruiser who responded and the yanks flashed the answer back to the lead cruiser, the Yanks sailed between the cruisers and back into the fog before the Japanese realized what was up. True?

    • @Justowner
      @Justowner Рік тому

      It could work, provided the angles involved prevent the signal light being visible to the first vessel. As long as the ships had the correct flag up i don't think it constitutes perfidity, which is a war-crime.
