      @@nebulous8389I agree that Sam is a great actor, and amazing as Lestat. I couldn't imagine it being anyone else now, although I thought Tom Cruise was really good as Lestat as well. The one thing that I think is different from Sam Reid's Lestat and the books Lestat is the age. The book describes Lestat as being made a vampire in his early to mid twenties, but Sam depicts him more as someone who was made in his thirties. Since the character is immortal, I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

    Love that you're picking up on things like Lestat's wariness of the European vamps, that Louis wasn't present in the relationship while he was consumed with missing Claudia, that Daniel pushes painful buttons, that Claudia is far more like Uncle Les in her tendencies than Daddy Lou - and enjoying hearing your well thought out opinions after watching! Really enjoyed, thanks!

  • @Slappys
    @Slappys 19 днів тому +115

    Louis didn’t rip out those pages to protect Claudia, he did it for himself. If her assault was going to be exposed, Louis should have at least given her the respect of letting it be in her own words. Giving those to the world could already be considered somewhat of a violation, but altering her private journals to make himself more comfortable with HER story is another level.

    • @asteven8
      @asteven8 18 днів тому +11

      I hadn't thought of it this way but I agree. When I originally saw this episode, like many, my opinion of Lestat changed but also my opinion of Louis especially when Claudia returns. It's easy to see the toxicity between Lestat & Louis and Lestat & Claudia. I think this starts a closer examination of Louis & Claudia's relationship. Not to get spoiler-y so I'll stop there.

    • @Slappys
      @Slappys 18 днів тому +19

      @@asteven8 There’s a recent clip of Sam Reid sort of reminding the audience we’ve never actually seen the real Lestat. All we know of him is from Louis’ perspective and a big part of this story is how unreliable he is as a narrator through lapses or inaccuracies in his memory. But choosing to intentionally take away Claudia’s voice, especially on such a sensitive and personal subject to lessen his own discomfort says a lot about his character.
      It seems S2 is really going to get into how Louis (intentionally or not) manipulates the story and I look forward to seeing how that changes the characters and relationship dynamics.

    • @asteven8
      @asteven8 18 днів тому +8

      @@Slappys Ooh, I had no idea about Sam Reid's comment. That totally tracks. I had already picked up on Louis being an unreliable narrator but not that element re Lestat. I feel like I need to rewatch S1 with that detail in mind. S2 can't get here fast enough!

    In the books 'Bruce' aka 'Killer' doesn't show up until the third novel. As the leader of his own biker gang 'The Fang Gang' that he and Claudia were joking about in this episode. So there's a chance we'll see more of him. Also, I love how they use American and European History in the background to further illustrate the themes of the plot. The Roaring 20's while things were going great, than the Depression when things were not. And soon there is another World War brewing.

    Claudia was turned at age14. At about 90 pounds, she simply doesn't have enough blood in her body to turn someone else. As for Louis, remember how he was with his old boyfriend Jonah out in the Bayou? Had to bite himself because, like Claudia with Charlie, Louis didn't have the enormous self-control yet to take "Un petit coup", the little drink. He bites to kill.

    If you're confused about the speakeasy scene where Lestat marks Tom Anderson on the face while Louise walks over to the police Captain, it's because Tom Anderson not only asked them there for a political contribution, but to lure them out in public so the police could search their home without them being there and the police captain could get a good look at them. They saw through the ruse, so Lestat stopped time so they could mark Tom and the captain as a warning not to mess with them.
    Louise never had a chance in the fight with Lestat. Lestat wasn't lying when he said he was trying to restrain himself. He could have easily killed Louise. Lestat has power that only the most ancient vampires usually have, as evidenced by his ability to fly.

    It wasn't a cool vampire action scene, it wasn't even a fair fight. It was just one-sided domestic violence and I find it interesting that you guys didn't see it that way. As someone who went through similar experiences as a child, I could feel how scary and painful it must have been for Claudia.

    Once you've seen the finale which I know you have... (but I'm not sure all of your viewers have so I'll be vague) this scene feels MUCH weirder. 🥴 4:40

    If you guys have to urge to react to the 1994 movie do not watch it until AFTER you've seen season 2 other series. It will spoil mjor events of the story.

    Lestat is a monster. I am finding it hard to understand why he's so beloved. Show me a redeeming quality because I don't see it.

      He has plenty, but it would be spoiler to say one to you, also, some of us really like fucked and evil characters, not everything needs to be "good" for us to enjoy and love a character

      Yeah he’s a definitely a monster and definitely irredeemable, but some people like that in their fictional characters. I don’t personally like his character at all. I think he’s abusive and a tyrant but he’s acted EXTREMELY well by Sam Reid. I dislike his character but I so appreciate Sam Reid’s performance of him. It’s breathtaking. That’s why as much as I appreciate him getting his just deserts at the end of the season I was a tiny bit sad about it lol.

      You are meant to not see it. Remember there are more than a dozen other books after this one. One page in one book can change the Universe for a good writer. And Anne was a great writer.

      He’s the villain you love to hate. He’s just a drama queen, and dramatics move a story (especially like this) along.

      Fictional people are not meant to be likeable or good, he's a compelling interesting character to watch, personally Louis is my favorite character but I can see why people love Lestat.

    I hate that Daniel pushed and pried so much about Claudia’s rape. You do not need details.
