I am 68 yrs. And have never heard a female vocalist that I thought was more skilled than Angelina! What is she going to sound like when she becomes Adelle,s age or Whitney,s when she passed! R I P Kinda Scarry!
She doesn't carry anything special inside. It's not genetics. It's all self-training by imitating artists while watching youtube and with helpful inputs from Granny. 999 out of 1000 kids can be fostered up to be an Angelina. The most important part is to increase tolerance for boredom, so make sure your child has much to do and no interesting toys except for a tablet with internet connectivity and a set of wired headphones. Teach to be brave with the voice and let the child listen to all kinds of music. Your child will come back to the genre she can excel at all on her own. This is all there is to it becoming an Angelina. Headphones are very important because it's much easier to learn pitch. They should be used half of the time. Also important is that you start at three years old because then there are two years left of super-fluid intelligence in the brain. Don't push anything, rather hold back, though for no other reason but to build up desire.
It really can't be overstated how incredible this girl is. At just 12 years old she sits down with her new mic and delivers this song with all the heart and soul of someone that has lived though decades of heartbreaks. At first listen it might seem like there is too much fry here, but as usual Angelina shows us exactly what a song is _supposed_ to sound like. Time after time she keeps bringing new life to these older songs. There are so many songs that I heard my whole life, but never fully appreciated until this girl from Norway explained them to me properly. She is a gift to music, and a gift to the world.

She has a vocal toolbox that seems to be unlimited. And she can dip into that toolbox so effortlessly and calmly. You said that if you closed your eyes, you’d think you’re listening to a mature, experienced 60’s soul singer. Yes, and with your eyes closed, you’d also think that singer was giving us the physical involvement and body language needed to summon up that vocal intensity. But, as we’ve come to expect, it’s Angelina, looking like the Mona Lisa, sitting down, swaying to the music, and blowing your face off in an unexpected genre with authenticity and pure talent.
She's so young people grossly underestimate the capacity of her technical toolbox.

Great reaction Soul and welcome back to Angelina Jordan. Hands down she is the best singer in the world! I can't stop listening to her songs every day and I'm not tired of doing this. And I'm usually not the type of person who is addicted to music, but I'm definitely addicted to her.

Great reaction to Angie, as always. For me, her absolutely greatest performance and arrangement was "It's a man's world." If you look closely, there's a moment of pure madness when even the conductor, who had worked with her for years, actually looks at her and shakes his head in disbelief. Clearly she didn't go there during rehearsal, her being so humble and all. Also take notice of the section in which the alto sax raises its dynamic and so does she vocally, you know during rehearsal she asked the musician to do so. This one is for the history books.

It was really too long that you didn't go back to Angelina, Soul, welcome back. Thanks for this beautiful reaction and analysis with this song by Etta. It seems really impossible to understand how Angelina can conceive and implement such an interpretation, it's simply incredible. I imagine that one of the reasons for Angelina's fantastic uniqueness is given precisely by the eclectic nature of her musical inspirations as well as, of course, by her fantastic talent. She has absorbed, studied and reworked so many great singers that she has almost become a wonderful human synthesizer, also endowed with an extraordinary capacity for musical analysis ❤️❤️
With this sweet moment of play with the new microphone on the sofa, while she accentuates the exasperated use of her vocal frying and the ease with which she manages to use it, we shivers with the pleasure of listening to her while she gives us a performance of this level. 😳😳

This is the best promotional video for Neumann mics forever. Singing about it from the back, with the logo to the audience, and then teasing out that sound. Neumann would have to be forever and ever grateful to her.

the song calls for. In this one she 'out Etta's' original with even more soul and
feeling.
In one of your first reactions I wrote that you don't know yet how her voice(s) sound like. People call her "the singer with the 1000 voices" or something like that. She fits the voice to the song.
Do a reaction to "Born to die" one of these days. That's another beautiful rich voice that you didn't hear yet. She sings it better than Lana del Rey. (IMO).

Anybody who can hold a $700 Neumann T102 one way direction condensing microphone BACKWARDS (accidentally) and sound THAT amazing is truly blessed beyond words.
I don’t think anything Angelina does is accidental, she’s been dealing with microphones and sound equipment for years, there is a reason she wanted and got ( for her birthday) a Newman mike... she has spent hundreds of hours singing into mikes, it is no accident she is experimenting with the sounds she can get from using it in an unusual way, she is far too experienced to “accidentally” sing into this mike backwards...
@@rburkett1939 I tend to agree with you, I know she does not always use pop filters so that she gets every nuance of sound, but this is the only time her mic was this way in all her videos...thanks for your reply.

This vocal performance employs a tone-control that I refer to as "Quacking" - which seems unflattering - but it's just a tool, just a tone control. And she uses it to the full song, without any length-of-breath issues. She does it from beginning to end. (Etta James - born 1938 - recorded this song in 1967, credited as a co-writer - was that 30-year-old singer you'd thought we might be envisioning with our eyes closed. Etta's first recordings were 1954 - as a 16-year old, by the way.)

Yes, she had just received this wonderful Neumann mike for her 12th birthday and she was trying it out. Did you notice that she was singing into the back of it, not the front? She might have done it on purpose, but I think she didn't know. Someone pointed out that because of this her voice lacked some presence, and maybe so, but the performance is legendary.
I disagree. It was done on purpose. After all, if she decided to do it again with the mic the other way around, she could just simply sit down and produce another legendary performance. It just comes that naturally for her.

I agree. Angelina's vocals should be left in their pure, raw form. When producers try to "clean up" the little imperfections, it is a bit like airbrushing the Mona Lisa because the colors aren't quite right for modern trends.
This is the reason that I prefer the original video of "I'd rather go blind" over this one with the audio enhancement. Yes the enhancement makes the audio sound 'better' (and boris does great work), but I like to hear it as she recorded it. For me personally, the vocals seem to be more out front in the original, and kind of "behind" something in the enhanced one. Also, the enhancement smooths out some of the rough edges, and those rough edges are one of my favorite things about Angelina. But the sad truth is, from here on out, there will probably _always_ be producers between her vocal chords and our ears. It's just the nature of the business. I think the only way we will get to hear "pure" Angelina in the future will be to go see her live.

@Jean-Claude Ledanois. I agree with you about 'Million miles. That the sound engineers/mixers were involved is especially noticeable in the lyrics version, which was also used in the music video. For me the best version was the live one.
I concur with the two replies preceding this one. I don't know the terms of the contract that Angelina signed with Republic Records but reading between the lines of Michael Astar's remarks I gained the impression that Angelina had full freedom to choose the songs she wished to sing and perform them in the way she deemed appropriate. That "assumption" and my understanding of how passionate she is in every aspect of her singing career brought me some comfort in the knowledge that although she would be wise enough to listen to advice, she would fight "tooth and nail" to ignore that advice if she thought it would change what she wanted to achieve. If it comes to the "crunch" it is hoped that Angelina has the full support of her family on these issues.
Yes, the enhancements made by Boris give a "cleaner" sound, but I'd rather have the "imperfect imperfections".
One of my favourite Angelina performances is Lesley Gore's "You don't own me." I hope there is sufficient latitude in her contract that she can tell them that convincingly.

this song sounded way over the top when I first heard it 20 times ago. But dang, it's grown on me. You said she was 'not' over the top. And you know what? She isn't, she's just dipped her paint brush in the pallet of vocal fry.
This kid is just a natural artist. That's it. That's all.
