I am from gadag I born in gadag happy to see you here from my city gadag I was studying in gujarati school.i was staying opposite school very cool city gadag
I really miss those days.. life was good then.. no pressure..no gadgets.. I would go to my grandparents house for holidays. The train station was closely.. I would walk to the station to look at the steam engine for hours..
Beautiful video, one of the amazing captures of steam engines , I still remember those days when I travel from Bangalore to Chennai , I use to have a wonderful sight of steam engines in the meter guage section.
There used to be a Parsi Mail/Express Driver who used to work on the YC Engines Model Nos. 550 to 564 on the Hibli Miraj Section and he was the best driver and would run the trains at great speed and would always reach the stations before time. He handled these iorn Monsters very confidentally, His Name was Driver Surthi, who would always have on a long Khaki pant and khaki Short sleeves shirt and a black cap. Would love to know what happened to him and where was he last after his retirement?
Booked speed of Old Vaishali Express hauled by metre gauge YP steam loco was 68 kmph & maximum permissible speed 75 kmph. From KASGANJ to KAYAMGANJ 77 kilometres the running time of Vaishali Express was only 77 minutes!!!!!?!? . THRILLING SPEED। Those days in 1974 I was "" Engine Cleaner "" ...... आज सोचता हूं, कौन थे जो इन पर कोयला झोंकते थे, अकल्पनीय!!!!!!!
I had seen all these types of steam engines since my childhood as I used to live near SEALDAH ST...KOLKATA.. in the early 60's I used to watch the electrification works from our rooftop... Still I'm obsessed ...how romantic our days were !!!!
Thise were golden days. We used to travel by the steam engine drawn trains. It was a memorable experience. Britishers contributed richly for the laying many new lines.
Steam Era was the best and we enjoyed listening to the puffing and whistling of several types of Engines with different sounds. The journeys between Londa to Belgaum and vice versa used to be great with most of the Drivers as Anglo-Indians and one Famous parsi Driver Surthi who was the best.
My father works as fire man for this loco, Later he retired as loco pilot at moulali secunderabad division. Proud to be a part of indian railways family
This was taken in Feb 94. There were two regular YP class powered trains into Katpadi from the north on the Southern Railway at the time. The line was in the process of being broad gauge at the time but completion was still a couple of years away.
Great to see this vid of a YP. Used to get rides on the footplate between Ajmer and Jaipur on the last steam (YP) hauled expresses. Nothing like charging down the main line at 80 (felt like 180!!!) on one of those engines. It used to feel like they waddled away from the stations but they were ok once they got up a bit of speed. They were generally keep really clean and in excellent mechanical condition... the footplate spotless and drivers often in immaculate white trousers!!! TU :-)
May God Bless The Loco Staff. Definitely Not An Easy Job. They Have To Work In All Kinds Weather, With Full Concentration. My Father Was An A Grade Loco Pilot In The Same YP Engine Model, in S C Rly.
remembering old days is fine...but look at the other side....technology and development brought us cleanliness, safety to us and our family, as a kid I also remember my face getting black and my hair getting thick and laden with coal dust at the end of the journey.
THIS WONDER FUL AND GIFTED VIDEO BRINGS THE SWEET MELODIOUS MEMORIES OF STEAM ENGINES OF BG AND MG OF PALAKKAD RAILWAY DIVISION DURING THE JOURNEY TO COCHIN HARBOUR TERMINOUS FROM SHORANUR JN
Really this locomotives vary gems. Who work the steam locomotives still they are healthy. With out any health problem. I parsonally seen. And work the locomotives is vary hard. Tow firemen andnome loco driver. Main thing is maintain the steam as per requirement of parameter. All the three Parsons wor was hard. Really great of this locomotives. But today tecnology was lot of improved. But it's sad thing the locomotives are away from railways. R.I.P.
Amazing. The hissing sound of steam engine brings back the memories of old days. Didn't't like something at 2:18, station name in hindi is blackened. Don't know if still it's the same.
Great video!!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Is this loco a YP or YG? I wish if steam days could come back. I will kick my current career and become at least a fireman on the Loco, it would be an honor for me.
During 1990 s , when this steam coming in Steel bridge ( that time no concrete bridge ) ,the whole bridge & engine was an total threat to me when I was standing in brige human stand . even child hood , i was afraid to stand after that in bridge human stand.
Really those days, use of Steam engines vast energy is lost after burning coal, But is glad that after 20 years Indian Railways are now promoting more use of electric trains instead of Diesel.
I understand that. He asked when they stopped using broad gauge AND meter gauge. Now if I shot this meter gauge YP in 94' , than obviously IR was still using steam in some parts of the country way beyond the mid 80's
j2mariautube: Thanks very much for your useful info. Appreciate your effort sharing it with all. You must have some very fond memories........ I'm jealous.
