- Former Conservative Cabinet minister Nadine Dorries admits her 'surprise' that the public will take to the polls in July.
This comes as a soaked Sunak goes for a summer poll as he announces a General Election will take place on July 4th.
Mr Sunak declared it "the moment for Britain to choose its future" and said the election will take place at time "when the world is more dangerous than it has been since the end of the Cold War".
Nadine Dorries tells Iain Dale: 'The big question is: why?'
'It's difficult for MPs to understand, and no one understands why he has done it now... there was every possibility that something could happen between now and then, and right now we are 20 points behind in the polls'.

That is the part Dorries hasn't grased yet. She says that there is no great love for Starmer and yet the Tories are still twenty points behind Labour. There are people who are not natural labour voters will vote for the Labour candidate simply because they are better placed to unseat the Tory MP, and there are people who do love Starmer will vote for the Lib Dem candidate who is better placed to unseat the Tory MP.
This election result will be more a consequence of people voting against than voting for, with tactical voting producing some wild swings.

This needs a community note - Labor Day in the US is the 1st Monday in September (Sept. 2 this year), not August (though I see it’s vaguely mentioned at the end). While I wouldn’t be surprised if Sunak’s motives for the election date are wholly personal, Nadine, as usual, hasn’t a scooby what’s going on.

Well, how comforting to know that Mr Sunak enjoys his family holidays. Many people can’t afford such a luxury. Only yesterday he again showed his own cynical nature. Standing in the House of Commons yesterday he promised infected blood families that legislation for their compensation would be voted through. He then called a General Election scuppering Parliamentary business. A man of the people.
He has called it due to him being told to. His work is done. His job was to see the UK through the cost of living , the war between Israel and Palestinian along with the Russia Ukraine conflict. He has made himself and his dad money
