Ever since I found out the size of Gransax I've been wondering just how it came about. I've always assumed that dragons grow their entire lives, meaning the oldest dragons would be the biggest, which seems to be the case in Elden Ring as well. Gransax is such a puzzling anomaly. Visually he doesn't seem much different from the other Ancient Dragons, but is several times larger than all of them. So either he is the oldest dragon, or his growth was affected by some sort of unique circumstance. Which of course raises the question of what kind of insane circumstances those could possibly be.
I don't think he was that much bigger than some of the other ancient dragons , they were just downscaled in size so we wouldn't be ants cutting their toe nails . Dragons like Dragonlord Placidusax , Ancient Dragon Lansseax and Lichdragon Fortissax were probably Elder Dragon Greyoll sized if not bigger . While I don't doubt he was the biggest of them ( can't really say for Placidusax ) the difference wouldn't be that massive , if we had to fight him he would be much smaller for gameplay purposes .
While every big enemy weapon does get scaled down for player use, i like the implication that with Gransax's bolt its instead just that we break off the very tip of it Specially since the environmental model doesnt disappear

Hypothesis: Gransax never attacked leyndell. Gransax was coming over for some other reason (possibly diplomatic) and was stabbed in the back both metaphorically and literally by Fortisax. Gransax's pose makes it clear he died mid-air, his neck petrified in upward position (we se several anceint dragons seem as inert statues once dead, such as in the cathedral and in farum azula). This fact, combined with the intactness of his body otherwise, implies that he 1. was not involved in pitched aerial combat or else could be expected to be more wounded. 2. likely did not throw but rather *dropped* his bolt given its very shallow angle (and also the fact that if it had been fired, full of dragon lightning, literally most of leyndel should have been flattened if the detonation was at all proportional-especially when considering placidusax's nuke) and 3. that his wing was cut *before* his death (which would make a good reason as to why he was tumbling out of the sky to begin with). I believe Fortisax used his famous lightning glaive to cut down gransax, and had already planned to do so by conspiring with godwyn (who i actually believe has one of fortisax's scales replacing his heart, but that's another theory). The reason why a conspiracy is needed is also because of the fact that a severed wing alone would never have killed something like gransax, and it is doubtful that Fortisax's lightning could have finished the job before gransax even hit the ground (and left him without marks thereof). No, the only thing that I know which can kill such a grand being so cleanly, is the thing that Maliketh would still have been in the possession of in its entirety-destined death. Two things: It always struck me as strange that Gransax's body is left to remain in the capital, given its physical obstruction and the symbolism of Leyndell's walls being breached and the shame that comes with that. The position is also weird with its head lifted in the air rather than a more natural death laying on the ground - almost as if Gransax was frozen like that, perhaps by an outer god or some ridiculously powerful magic? Secondly, it is beyond me how that dragon was defeated. I don't care about Godfrey, Godwyn, Radagon, whomever - I beat them all as the tarnished (we'll beat Godwyn in the DLC) and they just don't seem even remotely powerful enough to beat a dragon that size. Gransax's HP should be 500,000 or 1 million or something crazy like that (given its stone scales too) and it looks like it could destroy much of the capital just by swooping attacks combined with aerial fire breath. I know this is a rant but it's seems like a silly plot hole.
would Gransax's body not be a symbol of honour for Leyndell? Taking down a dragon that big is no mean feat; it almost strikes me as akin to a hunter displaying the carcass of an animal on their wall
Here's a question have you ever tried to move the corpse of a mountain sized dragon from a city without more damage being done since I don't think they had a choice but to leave it.
@@Sam-uk4mb That's a fair point! But I guess given how much of an obstruction it is and how the death position is so strange I think there is more going on here...
@@JPMgeo they could cause more damage to the city if they move it like removing something that has impaled you which is why it's recommended not removing the thing since it causes more damage than leaving it alone.
Walking out onto that ledge overlooking the capital itself is one of the best views of the entire game, but then you see this massive dragon corpse laying amongst the walls too, and it just goes to see how immense both the dragon and the city were...and also the insanity that somehow the forces of Leyndell managed to defeat this beast to begin with. And of course, the discussion of 'what to do with the body'...how the hell could anyone move that? So it became part of the city itself. Amazing that the Ancient Dragon Cult became a thing with the body of one of its largest Ancient Dragons left laying on the city itself...

@@ImWhyMortalsCry I don't really know to be honest, but the city looks like it barely functions currently as is. Almost all doors and windows are sealed with some weird golden material and I don't think we ever get any indication of why.
@@tonyawwwno3364 Probably not but I know that the stuff the doors are sealed with is grave wax.
It's the same stuff the gargoyles are made out of. It's also on their weapons
@@ImWhyMortalsCry oh shit that looks right. But the real question is.... Why? Lol, its such an odd choice. It's like the whole city quarantined the residents or something
Now put it next to the Strider from AC 6
hes a big boi
I wonder how the head of gransax or greyoll compares to the big dragon skull in the godskin duo boss arena?
Its been a while but i feel like it was comparable to the head of greyoll
Gransax vs Elder Greyoll, which one is bigger
Looks like he is frozen in Time
I thought only my Grandpa had Gransax
who is the biggest dragon? Gransax, dragon dead body in dlc or dragon skeleton em dark souls? pls make a video about that
Wonder if Greyoll was his wife
Is the music track part of the OST? which one is it
Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Yea that's old grandpa sax.
How did they even take him down????
@@Big-Hat-Logann You could be right, but if they can kill a dragon that size (which I still don't understand...) why can't they move it?
@@JPMgeo they could cause more damage to the city if they move it like removing something that has impaled you which is why it's recommended not removing the thing since it causes more damage than leaving it alone.
i wonder how gransax is bigger in comparison to greyoll
So what you're saying is... He's a pretty big boi
Agheel and Greyol are Wyverns? Bc they have their wings attached to their arms
how does this compare to dragons in the dlc?
Meh, he's big I guess. I can take him.
yeah, coulda taken him.

Just imagine what the Dragon God in Elden Ring universe looks like... 🥶
Placidusax is prob the closest we have to a "dragon god" in elden ring

Hmm no other dragon have steppy stone tiered wings like that. Immersion ruined.

ds2 ancient dragon reference?!?!
What if gransax... Actually had an e instead of the last a in its name?
Are they always the losers in soul games?
I didn't like the fact godwyn finished this dude and said "the end" to all dragons and we tarnished get placi instead
I'm still not sure exactly how he died and from who or what.
Makes you wonder what they did to take them down
A whole lot of incantations and arrows
Godfrey bonked him
I’d believe him
@@fmdabi2426 it was Godwin.
They have huge weapons like trebuchets and big ballistas, plus a good concentration of god like people there
Biggest dragon fromsoft has ever created
Nah the one at archdragon peak that is the whole size of a mountain takes that title
@@SohelanthropusActually it’s not even close. The DS3 Archdragon has actually been measured relative to other FS dragons and even when stretched out to account for its full length it’s only about the same size as Dragon God (DeS).
Gransax dwarfs both of them.
@@Sohelanthropus Zulliethewitch already did a comparission of sizes of all the dragons of the souls series, and gransax is the biggest of all, i invite you to see her video, she even compares to the archdragon object in the mountain of archdragon peak and still falls short agains gransax and greyoll
Yet
@@Idea_of_Lustre well youcan't take the model for that, is just envirotment in the distasnce, the game model isn't that big, because you don't know how far and how big the mountain is. is the same as the moon in bloodborn, it's actually very small and just there in the sky not very far. That dragon is the size of a mountian, gransax is not that big
you could had upscaled lanseax model to fit the gransax's scale, by measuring their heads to compare or something, to make a better comparison with the player
Zullie the witch made it to compare
wondering how the shit leyndell killed this thing. I mean with his bolt, gransax could easily flatten the entire city.
Probably felt down I think the dragon fought on air and the Lyndell guys shot those very big arrows like we saw in the front of capital of Lyndell
2:09 "My ancestor :)"
I'm swedish and all I ever see with that name is "grönsaks" (vegetable's)
I always imagined these types pf games would be strange for a swede since the names aren't exotic and mostly rather mundane.
I always think of grensax (branch cutter)
Imagine him being just a pet of like a god, and his name is just something cute like Vegetables
@@ariannasv22 that put a smile on my face. Thx :)

Lyndell is the height of From's legacy dungeons
I just got to leyndell on my first playthrough I'm pumped, I really didn't like some of the stuff leading up to it 😂
Limgrave and liurnia was good but all the stuff in btwn and volcano manor was meh caelid was lame I hate "red" environments idk I'm autistic 😂 like a red room for picture development I hate that shit
Leyndell is the peak of from's world building and as a place in general. The music, the atmosphere, the view after the first site of grace. You understand immediately how much is important this city in Elden Ring's history. I've played ds1, ds2, ds3 and Bloodborne and nothing comes close, not even Anor Londo, The Ringed City, Castle of Lothric, Irithyll, Fishing Hamlet, Cathedral Ward or Cainhurst.
now theres an even larger dead wyvern type dragon in the DLC makes both of these guys look tiny..
The next fromsoft game is gonna a dragon boss that size I’m telling you
🙏🙏🙏
Leyndell officer: My lord, my lady. The clean up after the war may take longer than expected. Especially with that dragon and its spear.
Godfrey: You can clean anything but that.
Marika: Do as he say. We will manage people to live with it from now on.
Leyndell officer: My lord, my lady. I may not understand your intention. It will be inconvenient to people.
Godfrey: Let's the corpse be the mark of our victory and strikes fear to any force that dare threaten Leyndell.
Marika: And it can be a good tourist attraction for our eternal empire
Leyndell officer: It's all clear. My lord, my lady, I may take my leave.
World-Event boss fight for a FromSoft protagonist...regular Tuesday brawl for the Research Commission's Sapphire Star
This is like fighting Dalamadur Where is 16 hunters fighting different regions of it 💀😭
"I can take it"
In a fight right?
I wish we could see some of the legendary dragons at the peak of their power.
Gransaxx is dead.
Lanseaxx and fortisaxx are really old.
And placidusax was damn near on his last leg when we fought him.
If we ever get to fight that dragon it better have 1 million HP. Otherwise I'm going to be sad that it feels nerfed somehow. From software really bred a masochistic community lmao😂
Only FromSoft can turn a dragon into a map.
Actually, many games attempted it. WoW with that one place in northrend has a fosillized proto-drake, for example.

Losing such life is truly horrifying, yet soothing.
Is it ever known what caused his demise?
I have been searching his body myself for some time but could not find any significant injuries
at least the People of Leyndell have an awesome piece of Decoration now resting over their City
