Skynyrd was one of the best bands ever to hit the stage, regardless of genre. The dueling guitars, drums, bass, keys, vocals. They just kicked serious ass when it came to rock, blues, and soul.
I was there, (Fox Theatre Atlanta July 1976) all 3 nights when they recorded thier live album. Best 3 shows I ever saw them do. The Outlaws opened for them all 3 nights. I have a copy of it on vinyl. They were awesome!
@billwalker7556 Yeah. That is an amazing live album. I've seen the Outlaws a few times, and they were awesome. Dig this. My first Skynyrd show was in 1975. Brownsville Station, Peter Frampton., Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Black Sabbath. $6.50 at the door. I still have the stub
@@billwalker7556 Are you the actual guy who yelled "Free Bird" over and over, making it the most yelled dad joke at all rock concerts for the next 25 years? 🙂
LS is a Must Marathon! Perfection in Southern Rock, forever. LS songs should be read about! They wrote of their lives. Along with MCA, please react to: Give Me Back my Bullet.
Can you believe these bad boys played this tune for the MCA executives on the contract signing party! Now that was a joke AND a threath at the same time. 😎
Hey Biz ! Very glad to see this Update from you . I have been thinking about this song & I happened to stumble upon this on a song meaning page . Not sure if it's 100% , but it sounds pretty close . Workin' for MCA : MCA was Lynyrd Skynyrd's record company. This song is based on how they were signed. The "Yankee Slicker" is Al Kooper. They actually were signed for $9,000. After recording "Sweet Home Alabama," Lynyrd Skynyrd performed at the "Sounds of the South" press party. According to the booklet included with their box set, "When Skynyrd hit the stage with a roaring version of 'Workin' For MCA,' written especially for the event, the party stopped while 500 hardened industry vets stood on chairs to get a glimpse of the unknown band." A few months later, Lynyrd Skynyrd opened for The Who on their "Fallout Shelter" tour. >> The "seven years of hard luck" in the opening line is the time from 1966 to 1973. 1966 was when the group changed their name to Lynyrd Skynyrd, and 1973 was when their first album was released. >> In spite of the suspicious tone to this song, "Workin' For MCA" had its perks. Al Kooper, in his memoir : Backstage Passes and Backstabbing Bastards, goes to great lengths to describe the studio where Second Helping, Skynyrd's second album, was recorded. The Record Plant in Los Angeles was a Hollywood crib of decadence and hedonism, with all the hallmarks of 1970s sleaze. Jacuzzis and bedrooms in the building, squealing groupies bounding naked down the halls, and a staff which had standing orders to cater to every whim of the guests. And as for the decor, if it wasn't wood paneled, it was tie-died.
Funichios is an Atlanta club popular in the 1970s where a lot of emerging southern rock bands would play. Located on Peachtree in Midtown, this was a place. That was where you could see Lynyrd Skynrd live when they would drive in from Jacksonville. Al Cooper of the Strawberry Alarm Clock heard them at Funichios and signed them for $9000.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's unique sound comes from their top-shelf rhythm section, whose techniques make Skynyrd's sound structure so unique. You know it's Lynyrd Skynyrd in just two or three seconds. Love your commentary on the Music Companies.
In this song Ronnie says I want to see where my money goes. If you listen to roll Gypsy Roll he says most of the money that I've made I done stuck up my nose. Awesome reference to the hopes and the realities of Life on the road.
Nice song choice Biz. You can't go wrong with any Skynyrd song on their first five albums. Just randomly pick one and it's fire. Here's some song suggestions I don't think you've reacted to. Things Going On from the Pronounced album, and a couple of deep cuts from the Nuthin Fancy album, Made in the Shade, and I'm A Country Boy.
It was so bad in the 60’s and 70’s! Billy Joel’s Piano Man was written from the time when he discovered the unfairness of his first record deal. Joel fled NY and started playing dive-bars, piano lounges on the west coast under made-up names.
Went through a lot of Crap to get a contract. There were so many Bands. Today, you don't even have to be good. Shameful. Try South side Junky. Muscle Shoals 🌄☕
Was i right or wrong is a great song. I never understood why it didnt get the recognition it deserved. I felt Ronnie was questioning his decision to leave home and persue his music career
Most of the music I've heard recently is not that good. Nothing is standing out. I mean I've seen some guitarists just come out with album after album and after awhile it all sounds the same and you wonder where is the one that stands out. Nobody has that hit after hit album anymore, it's like maybe three ok songs and the rest is fill the album songs.

Nobody makes music like that anymore southern rock at its finest
Don't forget about Blackberry Smoke.
nah good old music, plus queen and old country, all i listen to
They used to open their shows with this song, paying their dues
One of the greatest bands ever. My first concert, 1976.
Billy Powell amazing pianist he's got that tickle of the ivories 🎹 😍. I just love it when they let him do his thing it's always magic 🎩.
Great Skynyrd...great memories...the 70's in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Jacksonville was the band's hometown.
Wore right thru the groove on this one. Luv Second Helping!
AHHH lynyrd skynyrd anything pre 78 cannot go wrong Augusta Ga
Can't go wrong with Skynyrd. Their live album was one of the first five albums I bought, ca 1982.

@@billwalker7556 Thanks!
LOVE this old Skynyrd....brings me back. So good to see you like it too!
“Coming Home”or “One More Time” are both such great Skynyrd songs but often overlooked 😢
LS is a Must Marathon! Perfection in Southern Rock, forever.
LS songs should be read about! They wrote of their lives.
Along with MCA, please react to: Give Me Back my Bullet.
One of my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd songs, it doesn't get nearly enough love. Thanks for giving it a listen.
This is one of the deeper cuts that drew those of us who were serious guitar fans to Skynyrd, the solo on this is killer.
That Guitar Solo!😊
Alan King played this lead. Amazing guitarist. He played the iconic lead on Sweet Home Alabama. All time classic band - rest in peace fellas.
(Ed King) 👍
LOOK OUT!!!! I have just been transported to 1979 lol.
Please do yourself a favor and when you listen to Skynyrd, do it from the live album! ( One More From the Road ) The were great live!!
Can you believe these bad boys played this tune for the MCA executives on the contract signing party! Now that was a joke AND a threath at the same time. 😎
If you’ll notice, the rhythm guitar drops out during first half of Ed King’s lead and then rejoins. Adds quite a nuanced touch.
Street Survivors is my favourite album. To me Steve Gaines just added something special. I Know A Little and Ain’t No Good Life are fire.

Ooooh, yeah. Man, you just can’t beat these boys and girls.
I think their very best album is One More From The Road their live album! Its shows them how they were meant to be heard and they were on fire!
Second Helping is my favorite Skynyrd album followed closely by their debut album.
Great album first and last another great album

Bad Ass Song!!!!
Working for MCA was always thier opening song.
Street Survivors is their most accomplished work. Best songs, best production, best performances. Killer
Straight up 100℅ confederate johnny reb rock!!
Low key want to smoke weed and listen to Skynyrd with this guy 😂
Great song great guitar work, thanks for playing
Boy! Love me some Lynyrd Skynyrd (ear candy🍬)❤🔥🎸
You need to check out the live version of "Workin' For MCA & I Ain't The One". Just PURE fire!!
Thank you kindly for another 'Skynyrd reaction.
I want too hear it all!
Live videos of “T For Texas “ when they opened for the Stones
Next comes "I Know A Little". Skynyrd's not on my top 5 list but Allen Collins is on my favorite guitarists list.
Yeah buddy!!! #GOBIZGO
MY FAV SKYNYRD IS SIMPLE MAN, THAT SMELL, FREE BIRD, THE HUNTER , ABOUT HUNTING PUSSY, NOT ANIMALS

Yes!
Up until 1977 they don’t have a bad record, they’re all great, but I think their best is Street Survivors.
Hey Earthling
Sometimes I think that
Lynyrd Skynyrd was just
The American Jesus
And got assassinated.
It was so bad in the 60’s and 70’s!

I assume you're also checking out the Allman Brothers?

Double trouble is a good one less guitar more drums it features the skynyrd girls they don't get much love I noticed
