I'm mystified it wasn't part of my childhood such that watching it today changes how I feel about the past; as though it always should have been there.
I used to have fantasies about giant monsters and superheros despite only hearing about Ultraman second hand, so I guess in a way it was after all.
Then again, I watched Evangelion, which isn't too far off when you think about it.
I'm catching back up on the series myself. Living in the US, when I was a kid Ultra Seven was on TBS every weekday morning and I was hooked, my last interaction with the franchise was the SNES Ultrman video game. Then it went off the air, catching "Super Human Samurai Syber-Squad" was next to impossible, and Power Rangers didn't leave me with the same impression. Now I'm reading the manga that became the Netflix anime (starting to watch Season 2 now too), and I'm building my way through the Figure-Rise Standard "Suit" collection while also putting together a Gridman DVD collection.

As an Ultraman fan, I am really happy that a shin ultraman movie is being made. It may bring people more to Ultraman.
Personally, I love the fact that it seems to have that same classic feel of the original series, just with a bit of a modern spin. As for Higuchi as director, I think he'll do fine so long as the script is good. And I think Anno will deliver on a good and thoughtful script that pays respect to the original series while still feeling fresh.
I really look forward to how the movie handles the human drama and how they deal with Ultraman. Shin Godzilla made a really intriguing drama of not just human vs monster, but also about clashing ideologies between human and was one of the best movie I've watched in recent years, so needless to say, my expectation for Shin Ultraman is very high.
There's a very Neo-Showa Era feel to the clips of the film we've seen so far, and it's being done in Shin Kamen Rider as well. There is a film grain filter that makes it look dated, and the CGI effects look like practical costumes with what look like classic post production editing tricks that take it back to the original. When you see the snap, split second delay of Ultraman firing his Spacium beam (he swings his arm and when the beam fires) or how he flies like a miniature on strings. It's brilliant.

yup, his video about Evangelion and Ultraman is so beautiful and informative. i also first heard shin Ultraman from here. really waiting to see Shin Ultraman in the cinema I hope this will make Ultraman come back like it used to and get reckoning in the whole world. as child from Heisei Era Ultraman I hope to see something like Tiga to Mebius once again.
@@jackdarrow3011 Yeah, I found blunova's videos when I came across the Evangelion Rebuild reviews and I ended up watching the rest of the tokusatsu content here haha. Currently watching Gundam Wing as per the "Did women save Gundam?" video and just picked up an Ultraman steelbook from Best Buy- a great deal for only $10 but it doesn't have the english dub. But yes! Hopefully Shin Ultraman gets a popular theatrical run abroad!
I desperately want to see this movie but sadly we still have no idea when it'll come in the US. The thing I'm loving about what we've seen from the trailers is how fully embracing they are to the visuals of the original like how Ultraman flying looks identical to the flying prop used in the original or how they had the original animator behind the Specium Ray, Sadao Iizuka, come back to do the Specium Ray in the movie. I wish a lot of Hollywood reboots and adaptations were as faithful to their source material as Shin Ultraman is to the original
At the very least, I think Tsuburaya will try and release it at Ultraman Connection website but you right, it's better to watch it on big screen .

Personally, I hope the movie has a strange fun about it. I don't want an overly serious Ultraman (despite the fact I like Nexus) but a nice for all ages Ultraman story
Even though I'm not a big Ultraman fan I am looking forward to seeing how the crew will handle the character. Some of those action scenes/visuals look absolutely phenomenal and I admit a bit better than Shin Godzilla in some parts. We still have to get Godzilla vs Ultraman one day too!

Shin Godzilla is kind of bound to being an existential horror monster with little intelligence and purpose in the story than being a natural disaster that kills and destroys lives by its mere existance. There's not much to work on so something like Ultraman will be the oppertunity to revive a sentient kaiju with a purpose.
@@kennethsatria6607 I think there's plenty, they just need to get the right writers to brainstorm a good story. We gotta see Godzilla, Gamera and Ultraman together on the big screen someday!

Even a quasi-limited release like Shin Godzilla would be great ... I'm not holding out much hope but I imagine I can at least get a decent BluRay or stream before tooooo long.
The broad strokes of these ideas reminds me of Ultraman Geed: People trust the other ultras more or less implicitly, but Geed/Riku is the son of Beliel, so they're more inclined to fear him. (This is despite the fact he plainly looks like Ultaman more than his father and always saves the day.) This might not bother your typical superhero trying to maintain his secret identity, but Riku is, ironically, a tokusatsu fan. So it bothers him that people don't cheer for Geed the way they would for Ultraman in the 1966 series because giving people hope is what he is aspiring to.
He even says "I will protect hope!" during one of his rise sequences.
A similar thing happened in Evangelion. As far as the residents of Tokyo-3 are concerned, Shinji is just another part of NERV and unit 01 is just a new and more dangerous weapons system. This comes out most strongly when Shinji injures Toji's sister and gets beaten round the face for it.
In the real world, the manner in which a hero appears is often so unexpected he is typically crucified long before he can be recognized as such.
I want a US release. Even if it's limited run.
Hideki Anni is a True Nerd Master in the Best Good Way, i Hope this will be the movie that will Revamp Everything about Ultraman and i'm Hoping the movie will have it's own Sequel with more Ultras and more Shin movies will follow like Shin Kamen Rider, but anyways i'm asking for a Shin Super Sentai movie

Shin Ultraman has become something that I most feel so excited about and I didn't even expect that the movie would be a big deal ever since the reveal of that movie. At first, I thought it was fake until it was real but as we learned more about it, I became much more invested, excited, and supportive of the movie than ever before.
Shin Ultraman seems to show a lot of love, appreciation, and emotional impact that they wanted to present for the movie and I wanted Shin Ultraman to be the most successful movie in the box office that matches or surpasses Shin Godzilla's success.
I've been a fan of Ultraman since around the age of 5 or 6 when the original Ultraman first came to the US. (around 1970, yeah I'm old) I hadn't yet seen any kaiju films so this was my first exposure to Japanese style special effects. It totally blew my mind! It's been great to see all the American releases of the franchise after so many years of chasing bootlegs and foreign released videos. And now we have Shin Ultraman, which looks fantastic! Hopefully we won't have to wait long for a US release!
I wonder, if this movie gets popular, especially amongst children, would the normal Ultra series change its tone and style to match closer to that of Shin Ultraman's? Sense this is the first thing like this since the new generation started, it'd be interesting if they start to take a more serious direction with the shows to match the success of Shin Ultraman.
I mean they did try to do It with a more "serious" show like ultraseven x, but as we know that was their first and last attempt in doing that one... So clearly their original formula still works until it doesn't.

The one thing I'm really looking forward to seeing in Shin Ultraman is the final introduction of Zetton. There was a clock promotional image where the time was pointed at 9:39. 39 being the final episode of the original series and Zetton's first appearance. It'll be interesting to see how the government would react to a humanoid giant alien that's not unlike Ultraman here.
Seeing as there is already alien Zarab to deal with, I think they will go in a "fake Ultraman frames ultraman" direction. Also, Zetton has been so overused, that I think it would be okay to leave him out.
@@transformersrevenge9 I dunno, I feel like that would leave that clock promotional image pretty useless. Doesn't help that the tagline is said by Zoffy after Zetton is defeated. So they have to make some sort of capacity in the movie after all.
I'm curious to see how the movie will tackle the concept, balancing both the distrust and heroic views of Ultraman
But I am optimistic, after all, both have knowledge, love and experience, heck, Evangelion as a whole can be seen as the bleakest and most cynical actions of more modern humanity if Ultraman showed up: we'd fear him, imprison him and make clones of him that we can fully control so we can fight his fight in his place, because we do not trust him
Seeing him without the color timer feels strange but it’s what they were gonna do originally but I’m all for it
I hope this gets a us release either in theaters or bluray as I like Ultraman and hope to see more releases here like we have in the past few years
After seeing the third teaser earlier this week, I feel more willing to give this movie a chance. Before, the footage of monsters and scenes that appear to replicate Shin Godzilla had me worried about it being a rehash. The presence of aliens and the heroic aspects regained my faith.

I'll be honest I'm more hopeful about this movie than where my hope went during Shin Godzilla. From the trailers, it shows that Ultraman is still Ultraman and not a mixture of Ultraman and one of his foes. Can't wait for this movie
I think they did a bang up job on "Shin Godzilla", and Higuchi-san did a masterful job on the Heisei Gamera trilogy, so I'm keen to see what they do with this iconic character! If Ultraman came to Earth these days? The media would go all in in portraying him as a threat whether aliens were involved or not, IMO. I'd want to get to know him and see what he had to offer before passing judgement.
I'm down for this, I been watching the old shows and the 90's and early 2000's as well. I would real like to see it!

Shin ultraman is confirmed for North American release, so I will definitely hit US theaters because it is doing very well in Japan, out-performing even Shin Godzilla in terms of revenue. We just don’t know when it will be slated for international release
well please..don't ruin this one..the New Shin Kamen rider and Black Sun is already made me worry about all of these masterpiece being rebooted. But looking forward to seeing this Shin Ultraman movie
Well, I thought the Wachowski's Speed Racer would do well. I enjoyed the movie, but it was a box office flop. I doubt we'll ever get to see this Ultraman in the U.S., but I still remember the TV series from when I was a kid.
I like the updated concept. It looks to be way more adult in tone, with far better special effects. I remember watching the original as a kid over fifty years ago--how time has flown!--and thought it cool. It's come a long way since then. If Shin Gojira succeeded with its new ideas--and I thought it was a great film--I'm hopeful that Shin Ultraman will succeed as well. If the script is good, then this flick will deliver!

Nah the evagelion guy clearly said he wants to move on from his depressing side so I doubt this shin Ultraman will be super dark or anything... Plus I'm pretty sure they are restricted into making Ultraman doing certain things due to the brand image.
Anno wants to restore the characters to their original self, Godzilla was originally a nuclear abomination, so he made shin Godzilla a nuclear abomination, wonder what he would do for shin Ultraman
I have high expectation in shin Ultraman. It would be nice if first time he show up nobody believe him and hate him. The earth defenders attack him mistakenly him as the same monster as the kaiju, like in ultraman nexus. And it’ll be much nicer if zetton make an unexpected appearance become the reason where human started to doubt themselves and support ultraman.
Or maybe zetton will show up in eva x ultraman x godzilla x kamen rider thing as the idk as godzilla zetton angel hybrid.

As far as Higuchi as sole director goes, Giant God Warrior Appears In Tokyo is enough proof for me that he’ll do an effective job. He has enough symbiosis with Anno to nail his visual style and atmosphere.
DAMN RIGHT Ultraman will be on our side! You see Ultraman is the is embodiment of the "Ultimate AZZ kicker" that we as humans want to see. He is as close as to any superhero that we idolize like hercules, samson or superman, that when all else fails, when the world is 2 steps away from HELL, here comes the ALMIGHTY fist of GOD ready to exact retribution on behalf of humanity. That is what being a superhero is all about. He's not some titanic creature exerting his domain in the world by setting a balance with nature, NO SIR! Ultraman is there for 1 reason and that is saving lives by kicking kaiju AZZ back to stone age. GODZILLA maybe the king of the monsters but GODZILLA AINT GOT $H1TT on ULTRAMAN!!!

I like the fact that Ultraman in this looks both iconic and reminiscent of the past, but also disgusting and unsettling with how alien he looks.
I'm more excited for Shin Kamen Rider, but Shin Ultraman's definitely gonna be amazing too
I have a good feeling about the whole humanity fears but he still fights to protect them in secret, works like modern Superman but Ultraman usually actively cares for humanity despite being a full on inhuman kaiju, though he is sentient and humanoid in shape.
Kind of why my favorite Ultra is Cosmos. Its humans are also relatively realistic, they are equivilent to enviornmentalists in a world where monsters are very common so it works.

To Kairi's credit it's an admirable show of faith in children's taste in entertainment. Something that I'd love to see more of in the industry these days.

I can't wait for that new ultraman movie to be released on theaters worldwide and as a payback against that awful cgi movie known as dragon force so long ultraman by china's bluearc where they gave ultraman a villainous role and i was engulfed with rage on why they made him a villain!!!! When this is finally released soon all the men,women and children of china will find out who ultraman really is.

After the last battle the ultraman has been seperated from the host and died and it kind of reminds me of the netflix series of ultraman where the host of ultraman got seperated and have ultraman's dna in him and later on his kids have the ability to transform

I'm so glad to see the return of ULTRAMAN. I have been a big fan of the original show, and when it came out as the "ULTRAMAN :The Complete Series". And now we're getting "SHIN ULTRAMAN", I can't wait to see it. Any idea when it might be released in the United States?
I would love to see the restart and remake of the 1966 versions of Ultraman with today’s technology but coming down from the sky from above like in the 60s! Only with more power and more of Japanese culture in the movie!

Ultraman 1966 had great/fun characters. Fuji is HOT! Most of the monsters were great for the time. I hope that they keep some of spirit the tv show had. I hope they do as well as Shin Godzilla in the FX department.
i really want to see how hollywood handle ultraman project if tsuburaya give permission tho. My point is how differently hollywood godzilla cgi vs japan godzilla cgi, the hollywood one feel like real-life creature on big screen compare to japan that feel kinda slightly off (just like how they handle mcu characters)

The original Ultraman felt guilty about killing a badguy before MOS. And Nexus had the world on his shoulders before MOS.
I'm amazed at how many shows and icons have stood the test of time. I hope to see this movie soon I loved ultraman TOS. Imagine Godzilla vs Ultraman! That would be epic.
I was originally not a big fan of how Ultraman, the Kaiju, and Seijin are all cgi, but understanding that it was the best way to render what Ultraman was supposed to be like originally, I've softened a bit on my criticism
I think that if Anno manages to turn Ultraman really a lot more "Alien" - on the weird sense of the term - while dealing with the world repercussion of what is clearly a 'First Contact' experience, we are in for a treat! I also think that a few thematic elements of "Evangelion" could be inserted with great elegance! Can you imagine how would feel to live in a kind of simbiosys with an alien being? The sense of detachment and loss? The doubt about your self-image, your true identity, whose feelings are you actually felling right now? How can be that in a moment you are a regular human being, just walking around on the streets, and the other moment you are imbued of astrophysical amounts of energy, capalble to fly, shoot energy beams, having the size of a huge building? How desorienting this should be? I think that, if they go down that road, we are in good hands!!!... (In fact, I am rooting they go deep in that kind of stuff!!!)

i grew watching the original series on vhs tapes that are recorded via vcr in japan,
and i've learned so many things about like Truth. Justice , and Beauty in the show Ultraman.
i really owe ultaman my happy fond memories in my childhood, heck i've even dreamed to be Ultraman itself one day :D

I was raised in Tokyo during the 60's and the 70's. Ultraman (and the series that followed with Ultra Seven and others) was probably the most influential show of my childhood. All I ask for the new film is to be somewhat respectful of the mood of the original show and not get too dark and angsty like the Man of Steel. Also, don't kill people for the sake of the spectacle, if needed, kill them for a reason. I'm just tired of films killing thousands of people without blinking an eye to the actual tragedy.
I really love how they are going with this take of ultraman. I have a soft spot for the ultraman series don’t get me wrong I like the anime but it will never beat the original for me. from comparing both I will have to go with the original show, and I love how, they are making a movie based off the classic show. Imo this is the best take on ultraman.
Sad, movies and anime never really play in Canada, otherwise, I would have gone and see it. Trying to find the show or movies are kind of difficult. I wish more will show overseas....
Just, keep Disney as far as possible from this movie and franchise, and I think we'll be good!

I'm very excited for this movie, but I was really hoping for Red King and Gamora.
Man I'm so god damn excited to see how my man Alien Mefilas will look like and if his plot will be just like the original series, wanting the heart of the earth but in a pacific manner, yet resorting to violence if things go wrong.

The only thing I'm "worried" about is not setting my expectations properly -- I.E. me & Shin Godzilla. This time around I suspect I know what I'm going to be getting AND I suspect that this outing will be a little more faithful to the series I grew up with.

I think I'll watch it, but not as hyped as I was with Shin-Goji. Mostly because it seems more of the same. But all the respects Anno and the team are giving to the OG series is pretty cool.
The OG Ultraman is my favorite because he would normally try to get the monster out of civilization and he doesn't ask for back up, he'd fight to the death if he has to.
I'm looking forward to the nostalgic and sophisticated Ultraman.
