What a great interview. The Baltan answer is very intriguing. One of my complaints I’ve had from just hearing about the movie is that Ultraman doesn’t feel bad about putting down the aliens or kaiju. Higuchi saying he intentionally didn’t do that was very interesting.
@@phantompenguintgl1652 He definitely didn't. I rewatched the original fairly recently and in most episodes Ultramans brutality is pretty shocking. There were really only a handful of episodes where he showed any remorse.
Higuchi is right about Baltan though. Zarab, Mephilas and Zetton had better characterizations for the purposes of the film. Baltan is iconic because of the "haha funny Matango laugh" more than anything else tbh.
Ah, so it was an iphone that they were using for those wild angles! I knew they were using something other than a traditional movie camera, and I know they used iPhones for the short "civilian footage" scenes in Shin Godzilla and a couple others, but thought they were using some sort of micro security camera or something. Very cool that they were just using iphones. Now I feel that the weird short Shin Ultraman short skit videos I shot outdoors with an iphone here in Tokyo are even more authentic! 🤣 Thanks for the interview and info dude!
Great little piece of your interview and what a awesome opportunity. I haven't seen Shin Ultraman yet but it's interesting to know that they didn't add a bit more complexity to the villains and went with a more classic approach. I also gotta say those action sequences look incredible and to be honest I'm kinda jealous Shin Godzilla didn't get treated with the same approach haha
Fantastic interview, these were the type of questions I would've loved to see in the Q&A that was held after the movie I was at the festival and I absolutely loved the movie. I think I might like Shin Godzilla a bit more but I need to rewatch Shin Ultraman a few more times before determining that. I do feel Shin Ultraman is a movie that you really need to sit with for a little bit after watching it in order to process everything. I hope we get both a wider release and a home video release in the West in the near future

Since Hideaki Anno's has made movies about Godzilla and Ultraman and soon a Kamen Rider next year... It would be cool and somewhat funny if Hideaki Anno thought of makeing a Shin Supaida-man movie
in finding a balance of social /political commentary and optimism of original ultraman, i believe the movie fails to appeal in both, as both are conflicting one another, the end product feels like it lacked depth, i watched the movie, enjoyed it but, thats about it , nothing about the movie.. linger in my thoughts, no feeling of optimism nor more the feeling of appreciation of humanity, its like a memory of a random show i came across on tv that i find intriguing but nothing more than that . i appreciate what they wanted to go for, and to some extent they did, but the runtime is too short for a movie thats pretty much trying to cover full 7 episode amazon mini series, i just... cant find a way to care about sssp, shinji nor predicament they are in cuz everything happening too fast. i believe the movie would benefit if they sacrifice the commentary and go all out on the optimism as they did in the original show.
just came from a screening in Canada, and it was fantastic! Only downside is that they decided to screen the dub instead of the original japanese subbed. Outside of that, great watch!
What a great interview! I hope you can provide the full one also to UA-cam. The reason? I cannot support you on Patreon, even if I want to. It requires a credit card + the monthly charges for it are too much for me at this point. Sorry.
Completely sold out in an hour! I hope it’s success can convince the suits to release it in more theatres, and if not Shin Ultraman than Shin Kamen Rider when it eventually releases
What a great interview.

He didnt really show much remorse in the original ultraman show either (that I remember)
@@phantompenguintgl1652 not in most episodes but definitely in certain episodes
Well that's because he was part of the war against Aliem Empera so he must be like what Veterans experience
To not spoil too much, there really wasn’t anything to the kaiju and aliens to make you feel bad about having their shit kicked in.

here's hoping Shin Ultraman gets a wider release! Would love to see it in theaters all over the US!
I agree
Yes!!!!
Me too.
Me, too.
Definitely a wider nationwide release, screw a limited day or week only event.

All you need to see is one shot of Shin Ultraman or Shin Godzilla and you know it’s a Hideaki Anno joint.

Had no idea the reactions were for this video. Thought it was for a news service!
I hope they bring Shin Ultraman to wider US theaters soon.

Is shin Godzilla in the same universe as shin Ultraman?
Shin Ultraman was filmed on an iPhone??? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
I'm still Wondering if Anno and Higuchi actually can make a Shin Pokemon Movie
When do we get a theatrical release for this movie in Europe?
You guys are super lucky we at southeastasia need to wait until october to watch shin ultraman. Here's hoping they fast forward the screening.
how was the film? review? and is it gonna release worldwide? omg i wanna watch it :")
Got distracted watching my wife taking a drink in the background at 1:10.😆
I saw it at NYAFF and it was beautiful. His fights with Neronga and Gabora actually kind of brought tears to my eyes.
I hope it becomes available to people outside of the US as well, we watch Ultraman here too
I'm going to be very harsh and judgmental if those visual special effects hold up or low standard when I see this in January 2023..
Props to Shinji and Hidieki for making Zetton actually terrifying.

I’m glad you got to meet him

But then i haven't seen shin ultraman yet so idk what direction he is going for the movie
Based
