Still to this day. One of the hardest things I ever delt with as a kid. Dale is still the man. Best driver to ever be behind the wheel of a car. RIP GOAT
That’s what happens when you either deal with it as a kid or put way too much passion in something that you actually have no tangible stake in. I was a senior in high school when Dale died. I thought that it sucked that he died, but then again at least 6 drivers I liked died on track or died young. Indy and cart are the only 2 series I refuse to watch anymore. I quit watching when Senna died. Finally decided to watch a race again after many years and it was the race Dan Weldon died in.
We loved Dale Earnhardt Sr and watched him win the Daytona 500 in 1998. We watched him sail thru Heaven's gates in #3 on February18th 2001. I am sure he made a grand entry but I know my Jerry and Sugar Bear are happily watching him race in Heaven! I will join them all later! Gloria and Bear from Tx
I tear up every time to this song. But seeing this, makes me tear even more. The song makes me think of my mom. We use to go to the races all the time, especially for her bday July 3 for fireworks at Oxford Plain Speedway in Oxford, Maine. We would go to a diner near by, and always requested the booth that was signed by Dale Earnhardt! RIP
Eighteen yrs later & I still cry over that day. I'll never forget seeing the tribute flash on my TV that evening. My ex & I just held each other and sobbed. RIP Dale. 😢💔
The loss of Keith Whitley, Princess Diana, Dale Earnhardt, and 9/11 during my childhood growing up that will always remain a scar on my heart and soul.
Nascar had forever changed in a true Earnhardt fan . Yeah we watched for the black Chevrolet to come thru the pack . We shed tears when fans in the stands held up 3 fingers to salute Dale . I personally couldn't watch anymore . I collected every book , newspaper article and all pertaining to that day . I never opened one book ever since. I am now more of a weekly dirt track fan . I have attended races weekly for stock cars since 1980 .in Canada and in Florida during the winter months . I will always be his fan !
You just described my dad too. It weighs heavy on the mind because you realize how much harder it really hits since its one of those few rare occasions
Wow, till this day, it just gets harder to hear about this awesome of a person being missed so much. Kinda hard to still hear that he is gone from us still today. So many years and still hurts today.. Loved him then and still till this day, still love him always. God Bless all his fans that still loves this man today and always forever.... He will always roll in our hearts forever. God Bless
When I hear this song I start crying its part of my good luck songs when I play this song I think of Dale Sr and Kramer Williamson and Jason leffler miss them terribly
Its been almost 17 years since that tragic day at Daytona International Speedway. Hard to belive its been this long. We were all looking to see one of the best finishes in NASCAR history that afternoon. Not to be. With that. We are coming to a close to the 2017 season in Homestead FL. A nd now, we say goodbye to another Earnhardt. Dale jr. He's retiring. The story and legacy of this racing family has brought to us, is among the best in motorsports history. Or in any sports in general. The Earnhardt family has been apart of our racing family for almost forty years. And still continuing with the younger Earnhardt generation with its future to come. We all say Thank You, for giving us joy and some heartache all these great memorable years. The #88 car will be missed, but definitely not forgotten by its beloved fans. #3 forever!
To this day it still makes me sad 😭 dale was my favorite NASCAR racer !!!! He and forever will be my favorite!!! Rest In Peace dale ! We love and miss you greatly
Wrong. Many drivers have more top tens, more poles,, better average finishes, more wins and 2 other drivers have the same amount of championships (7, jimmy johnson and Richard petty). There are no facts that support your statement. Lemmy Kilmister once said that nothing makes someone better or more popular then tragically dying. There are many famous people who are now considered greats when before they died, they were not considered special. Same thing happens with artists. Most painter’s art ain’t worth anything until they die.
This man Dale Earnhardt saved a sport that only people from the south LOVED....he made people like me from NEW YORK be glued to the TV every Sunday afternoon...thank you Mr. Earnhardt...R.I.P.
It just seems like yesterday that Dale left us. >> I still get emotional when i watch this video mmm >> Great job Garth > this song is so fitting for this occasion.
I lost my old man suddenly about the same age as Jr. lost his, the struggle is horrible. When that one person in your life that's always been your rock is just gone, it hits hard. RIP Dale and to my father, Paul. Great men gone too soon! Song makes me tear up whenever I hear it all these years later.
It doesn't seem possible it was 13 years ago that a sport lost a great driver. I remember it just like it was yesterday. NASCAR will never be the same. RIP Dale Earnhardt Sr., you are truly missed. It never fails I always cry for this great man
18 years later whatever I watch things like this tributes honoring Dale I break down crying I will never get over the fact that we lost him he was a hero to millions of people and people are still feeling the loss of him everyday RIP Dale your Legend will live on forever
He lives in our hearts forever!!! #3 we love you!!!!! Thanks for everything you did for your family and fans!!!! Thanks to you as well Sir Garth Brooks!!!!!!!!
The one and only he was feared and loved at the same time I remember that unfortunate day that he was gone so many years ago when I looked down at the paper to say that he's gone with that I had a sit-down and break it ripped the very pit of my soul and I couldn't stop crying rest in peace the best NASCAR driver that ever graced the asphalt Long live the Intimidator number 3 forever remembered as the man in Black
Then you know nothing about the Intimidator I've been watching him since 1977 up until the day he died I know I know more about him than you could possibly imagine asshole
@@jackdundon2261 I agree. Petty had 200 victories with 2nd place having 105 (David Pearson) Dale only 76, but like most people they don't look at the entire picture just the most current picture in people's minds.
Man this is just heartfelt and tearjerking as Davey Allison's tribute song from the band Alabama at the '93 Diehard 500 at Talladega before the race. Seeing all these in the audience that night who truly loved Dale like of course Richard Childress, Michael Waltrip, Chocolate Myers, his own son Dale Jr. and so many, many more breaking down and getting emotional makes me cry too.
Seeing Michael Waltrip getting emotional breaks my heart for the man. I always admired him, and my heart goes out to the poor guy. The greatest achievement in his profession came largely due to Dale Earnhardt believing in his driving ability. I can only imagine the "what ifs" that went through his head after the accident that claimed his friend's life. :-(
It makes me Sad too I feel so Bad for Michael Waltrip as the passing of Dale Earnhardt Sr. Effected him Terribly my Heart Breaks for Dale Sr.'s Son Dale Earnhardt Jr. also as the Passing of his Dad Effected him Terribly also
After reading just a few of these comments, I realize that I can't possibly reply to them all, but here goes: Dale was my hero. I watched him from my daddy's lap from the Wrangler blue & yellow days, until the day he died. I don't care what anyone says about circle-burners, he made it exciting. Not only that, but the fire that I saw in my dad's eyes gave me reason to look for that same fire. Thank you, dad. And thank you, Dale. I will always love you both.
He was the king of nascar miss you dale o will never forget the number3 car not the same watching racing without 3 I see dale out there in spirit from the bleachers.
Dale JR. This brought me to tears still this long after his passing but to see you remembering your father he has been in my heart forever and like you I watched him every Sunday be the intermediate just to win 1 more. Heart out to everyone that made this man dreams come true.
After Sr. Passed away Nascar hasn't been the same. So I completely stopped watching the races. You are missed by millions of fans. What a heck of a driver he was.
Yes it just brought tears to my eyes again, new years eve 2019 I can't even tell you who just won the championship this year. I lost NASCAR when NASCAR along with everyone else lost Dale! Rip Dale
I have a feeling that when Micheal Waltrip passes, he's going to meet up with Dale Sr. and Sr. is going to give the vice-like hug that Micheal is still waiting for......
Thank you Garth Brooks very well said. To Dale Earnhardt thank you for great memories. And To Dale Jr. Sad see you retire full time but having a child and this sport can take you at any turn on track. Miss seeing you and your dad driving. Happy Father's Day. Dale Jr
The look on Michael Waltarp face and the silence of the cord says it all. He will be missed. RIP Dale Earnhardt Sr. Garth Brooks did the honourable thinking when he left the stage with Dale Sr widow by not putting his hat back on. Dale Sr was looking down and smiling.
I wasn't a big fan of Earnhardt but when I heard about him passing away, I broke down. Every tribute song to him is emotional in a good way. Miss you Intimidator
I was always a Jeff Gordon fan. But I got to meet Dale and Dale Jr at Rockingham. It was the Greatest Day of My Life. We talked for few minutes and I got picture's with them. I was at the Race that Sad Day. Yes I was Cheering for These Guys. It was like a dream coming true for these 3 men. Till he hit the way. My heart fell out of My chest when Kenny was Waving for Help. We all knew Dale Sr was Gone. There wasn't anyone with a dry eye at Daytona that day. We Just Knew. We returned to Daytona for the 400. There wasn't a dry eye on lap 3. NASCAR lost a Great American legend and Hero that day. God Bless Dale Earnhardt #3 The Man in Black. We Miss You!
will never forget that day watching the race and thinking he has been in worse crashes we will be fine to later find out he passed its a shame on that day nascar lost a great man
I remember shutting the TV off thinking well hell, hope he has a better race next Sunday. Never imagined he was gone! Then my dad called and said Dale died!
I was watching the race with my brother I looked up said well the race over next Sunday he will be back and they said dale is has passed we both said no I started crying
My husband and i were just talking about this tonight. Bristol was on last Sunday and my diehard racing fan husband didn't watch the race. We talked about how things were not the same since Dale passed. Without Dale, Stewart, Petty, Gordon and at least one Waltrip boy out on the track, it just wasn't the same and never will be again
I remember my parents telling us to turn away when we saw Ken Schrader motioning the track EMS crew when he got to dales car after the crash. Both parents being in public safety, dad a cop and Dale Earnhardt Sr fan and actually met him on more than one occasion and my mom a paramedic. They knew Dale was either dead from that hit or he was in serious condition and knew it wasn’t good after all the wrecks and deaths they have both seen in their professions. But Dale Sr. Was close friends with a guy named David Blanton a close family friend of ours here in LaGrange Georgia and Dale would come hunt down here in LaGrange troup county Georgia and over in Harris county Georgia and a few other prime hunting areas around that are known for big bucks. David Blanton works for Team Realtree and was second or third in charge and Dale Sr LOVED hunting and my dad had the incredible opportunity meet him a few times when his private plane would land at our small airport both when he would be in his police uniform or his number 3 Dale Sr shirt lol. We have a photo of Dale Sr my dad and David Blanton and Richard Childress and Bill Jordan the owner and founder of team realtree standing in front of my dads marked police car and my dad with a GIGANTIC smile while everyone else is smiling like a completely normal person lol. He was asked if he wanted to go hunting one time but he was asked to goto Orlando Florida to teach a class at a Law Enforcement training class and was so pissed lol. He loved fishing tho and was going to ask to have a piece of his Intimidator Bass Boat to be signed by his hero but unfortunately the 2001 Daytona 500 made the world stop when it took the most beloved and most feared driver from us. 2001 was the worst year in American history. First we lose Dale Earnhardt Sr. We lose the GOAT in February and then fast forward to September 11th 2001 and our nation comes under attack in New York City with the Twin Towers and the Pentagon gets hit in Washington DC and a field in Pennsylvania becomes hollow ground after some of the bravest Americans to ever live that are aboard a commercial flight decides that they will not go down without a fight and try and retake control of the plane from the hijackers and they all rose up to get to the cockpit but sadly they weren’t able to do it before becoming victims of the worst day not only in American history but world history. That was the year everything changed and nothing would ever be the same again. Rest In Peace Dale Earnhardt Sr. And Rest In Peace to the 343 FDNY Firefighters and the 23 NYPD Officers who gave their lives that day. And to the 2996 souls who all perished on that day. Worst year in America. #RaiseHellPraiseDale #TheIntimidator #3 #NeverForget
As a diehard metal fan and member of a big drag racing family that never really followed NASCAR I gotta say this is one of those moments in my time I was truly captivated and all my personal issues were non-existent. What a beautiful tribute to the intimidator....well done.
God, its the latter of 2019 and he stiil is missed. I miss him so much, still... Drive right up to heaven. Forever he will drive on, & On. I so miss the greatest driver ever to run with Nascar .
It’s 2019 and I still think of what things would be like had Dale Earnhardt not passed away. Seeing stuff like this will always hit home because I was named after Dale Earnhardt that’s how much of a fan my father was of his and my whole childhood was spent in houses that were wall to wall #3 memorabilia. I can vaguely remember 5 or 6 year old me excited about Dale Jr coming up through nascar because it was like I was gonna have my Earnhardt and my dad had his Earnhardt. It maybe 2019 and I’m a Chase Elliott fan but I’ll never forget my roots. RIP Dale Earnhardt
God how we miss you Dale My Husband Owns All I Know of you and this many yrs. Later he still shed tears, Thank you Garth For this! I Pray one day I take him to Daytona! God Bless you all!
This brings to tears every time I hear this song. I watched him every weekend a a kid and idolized him. Every time he lost the Daytona 500 felt like a heartache. When he finally won it was one of the best day ever. Thanks for the memories Dale.
Dale was like no other, he truly was the "intimidator" , but he was so much more, he was a wonderful, and amazing individual behind those dark glasses and much more than the tough guy persona
It may not make sense to some people, but God understands what I am about say. Thank you Winston Hall , my son, for taking that cup from my hands. I see no more addictions to tobacco, whether it be removing the tobacco industries or what? It matters not to me I just know our Heavenly Father has the best in store. Even if we do not see it just believe it. We in the Body of Christ walk by faith not sight. Thank you Dale Earnhardt.
My grandpa's favorite driver broke his heart the day it happened and made him cry so my grandpa has been gone for 4 years now due to liver cancer and this is the only song I have for him and it makes me cry. Like this post if you have lost someone who you love and this song reminds you of them
Who is here 20 years later? We miss you Dale! Forever 3

I was watching the race with my brother I looked up said well the race over next Sunday he will be back and they said dale is has passed we both said no I started crying
I'll go to my grave a Dale Earnhardt fan... What a journey, what a champion, what a Man.
I love you Dale, see you soon my hero.
Garth Brooks does a awesome job by singing this song for the earndart family I love it
Dale Earnhardt Sr was simply the Best. Great father, Friend and Nascar Driver. He was my favorite. HE WILL BE MISSED BY US ALL...
Can't believe it's twenty years still gets me
I remember my parents telling us to turn away when we saw Ken Schrader motioning the track EMS crew when he got to dales car after the crash.
We love you and miss you Dale Earnhardt Sr, you were the Elvis Presley of Nascar, you always made Nascar fun to watch!
Day will never be forgotten. We miss u dale to this day ❤
As a diehard metal fan and member of a big drag racing family that never really followed NASCAR I gotta say this is one of those moments in my time I was truly captivated and all my personal issues were non-existent. What a beautiful tribute to the intimidator....well done.
I was never a nascar race fan. But I do know the about the man in black #3. R.I.P and this song touches the soul. Forever #3

God, its the latter of 2019 and he stiil is missed. I miss him so much, still... Drive right up to heaven. Forever he will drive on, & On. I so miss the greatest driver ever to run with Nascar .
This is awesome and love the song...
Racing was introduced to me by my step father. Dale was his guy and so it was to be my driver as well. Always a Dale guy. There is no other!
I'll never forget that day or that race. Heaven gained another angel. Dale will always be the best.
I can't imagine the pain Dale Jr. and Michael Waltrip, among others felt.
This is such a beautiful tribute to wonderful man and driver!!!
4 years later and I miss you more today! This will always touch my heart! RIP Dale Sr
just ran across this....still brings tears. Love you Dale. Forever 3
That was the first Nascar race I ever went to I was 12 and was in love with dale sr, I got to meet him and jr right before the race down in the pit
Legends never die. Dale Sr will live on in the hearts of all Nascar fans forever.
Dale was like no other, he truly was the "intimidator" , but he was so much more, he was a wonderful, and amazing individual behind those dark glasses and much more than the tough guy persona
No matter how many times you watch it it’s like the first time. 3 RIP
Years and years later, I still cry. There has never, and will never be another like him. RIP #3
Simply the greatest there was that song even though I have heard it and liked it before, now for me it will for ever be tied to Dale Earnhardt.
The last blue collar racer. Best of the best. He was always willing to give it all for the checkered. We miss you Dale
My grandpa's favorite driver broke his heart the day it happened and made him cry so my grandpa has been gone for 4 years now due to liver cancer and this is the only song I have for him and it makes me cry. Like this post if you have lost someone who you love and this song reminds you of them
