When your dad says “I will do anything for you, id risk my life for you”
Look at this and think
Kilo Dizzy I don’t think you should be making jokes about this
Evo Instinct thats not a joke
Marcus Wilson sry i didn’t know my fault.
Evo Instinct it’s fine but that is a real thing not a joke
@MrJre4491 he also made it possible for more safety in nascar for other drivers so it wasnt just to help his son and micheal win.
On the last lap, protecting his teammate and sons place in the race. This was the first time I ever saw my father cry. RIP intimidator
That made me cry
my dad cried too...
My Mom was devastated! 💔She was so upset. I still remember watching that race with her. She was such a huge fan of Dale Sr. 😢
I agree
Watched my old man weep that day.
Dale’s not dead, he’s just a lap ahead

Underated comment
THIS IS A GREAT WAY OF THINKING IT
Somebody already said this in a video by Evan shanks called rip Andrew. Still a great comment though.
may him rest in peace
When the ambulance is driving away at about 5 mph, you knew he was gone
Sadly thats true
It was still their job to revive him but as soon as they figured out that he had a basilar skull fracture instantly they should have ceased their efforts at that moment. He didn't show any signs of life.
Slow ambulance(5 mph)means two things : broken back or death
I knew when he didn't put down his net he was gone. Even when he was hurt he would've put his own net down.
Vdalem43 schradiers(don’t know how to actually spell his name)face and panicking said it all that him putting down the window net was something that should have already happened before he go to the car
“Dale was Superman, we thought he’d never get hurt. And we were wrong” that sentence sent chills down my back
thats how I felt about Kobe. sad.
Same 😔

Original not a fake. He loved life and his passion for driving. He wasn't greedy about winning and enjoyed racing. He brought the track to life it was all natural to him like a kid on a swing playing. Dale will always be know as being Dale Earnhardt. We love you Dale and thank you for your being who you are and how you natural touched the hearts of your fans and for the sport. God bless you Dale Earnhardt my mentor for just being natural. Love ya.
Same
Darrell Waltrip getting so excited for his brother with tears in his eyes and then saying "I hope Dale's okay" in that choked up voice really makes me a little emotional.
I went to all of these races with my dad as a kid and he always told me that you will never see sportsmanship like the one that is in Nascar.
Great memories. 👍
Actually I think it’s less of sportsmanship and more of Just friendship, since tbh the sport is somewhat all one big family
@@GreekPele Been like that for years, especially when something like this happens, like Ryan Newman's scary crash when Denny won last year, he asked to make sure Ryan was OK
the only reason why he won was Dale was keeping everyone away... if it was a one on one race, he wouldnt have won....
I'm not a NASCAR fan but I became overwhelmed with sadness watching this video. Clearly these people loved that man. Love is truly the only thing that matters.
If you are an F1 fan Dale was America’s Ayrton Senna.
And I wish these Democrats could or would see this in President Trump!
@@mrpreparedallthetime1099 this isn't a political thing, you know that right?
Why the fuck are you here bitch?
I know who made dale earnhardt lose control and hit the wall
I wasn't even born when that happened, but I still get chills.
I was alive but was still a baby, but truth be told Dale Earnhardt Sr won the Winston 500 in Talladega, October 15, 2000 four days before I was born.
I was barely 1 years old when he died on the final lap, on the last turn. (born March 9, 2000)
I wasn't born either and ever since my dad showed me the video of the last lap I've been obsessed with Nascar and always tear up whenever I watch a video like this
Same i am only 11
Me to 2002 the 28 of february
"Dale was superman, and we thought he'd never get hurt, and we were wrong." That really broke my heart🥺🥺😭😭😭
There will never be another Dale Earnhardt
You gotta say rip
The number of grown men crying that day was astronomical.
There are reasons to cry
@@user-nb6st6xq7m I dont think he was saying it in jest -but that men typically dont cry over just anything. The death of The Intimidator was rough.

NASCAR died with Dale.
@Hiccum Blurpaedius shut the fuck up!
@@richbruno7840 most true thing I've herd
RIP
Autopsy report basically states that the initial impact twisted his body to the right, turning his head to the right. Then the wall impact sent him forward, the 1 part of the lap belt sheared which allowed him to fling forward a bit farther, the back right of his head hit the right side of the steering wheel and thats what did him in. The wall impact dropped his total speed by around 44mph, or 70kph.
Failed belt and a very unfortunate series of events
But like others have said, this mans last moments were watching his team/son winning this race. He built himself a damn good legacy and made many people so excited.
We all go eventually and instead of just passing out alone in an apartment, he died going 170mph watching his family win a race.
What a man.
It was the basilar skull fracture that killed him. He wasn’t wearing the HANS device and the impact through him forward with a sudden stop causing the basilar skull fracture, killing him instantly
@@sams.358 Yes and no, it was combined with the twisting of the vehicle, the failed lapbelt and the hans device that contributed to his death.
If the lap belt didn't fail, his head wouldn't have twisted and struck the edge of the wheel as it did.
It was a 44mph deceleration, people in cars have accidents at these speeds all the time and very rarely suffer a basal skull fracture. Hence why it was the set of circumstances combined with a failed belt, that allowed his body to contort the way it did and strike the wheel the way it did.
A hans device may have helped, no kidding, but it would be interesting to see how an individual comes out of an accident when their head is held back as their torso lunges forward.
@@sacr3 what speed are you saying he hit the wall at? 44mph?
@@sams.358 no, his over all speed dropped by 44mph when he struck the wall
sacr3: Not many people know that Rusty Wallace is the one who put Dale into the death angle with the wall. It’s definitely nobody’s fault but just saying why Dale went into the wall like he did. Watch in slow mo...u see Dale was headed for a hit on wall with right side of his car. After Sterling nudge he might tried to save it for a second which sent him back on track going towards wall in an angle but the Wallace nudge is the one who sent him into the death angle. If only Kenny was like 000.2 seconds ahead of original spot he would saved Dale from going into the wall like he did but instead his position made it worse.
Who’s here after Newman’s wreck? Prayers go up!
I am, I saw it on TV and when the car went airborne, I thought of Dale Earnhardt and even though I really didn’t know who this guy was, I was scared hoping he wasn’t dead. Thank god he is alright
Prayers to his family 🙏🙏
Thankfully he is going to make it
It is amazing to see the difference between the two crashes. Newmans crash was so much worse and yet he lives another day. Just speaks volumes of how safe these modern cars really are. Props to NASCAR. Rest in peace Dale Earnhardt Sr.

"Now y'all don't be sad if I die out there on the track... Because I don't mind dying doing what I love." -Dale Earnhardt Sr.
The only fault he ever had was refusing to wear the Haans device when it came out. He said it restricts his view and he would not wear it, it cost him his life... RIP Dale!
Illuminated Crosshairs He also didint wear the upgraded full face helmet. He only weared a 1980 helmet.
The open-faced helmet was a more tragic factor .. if I’m not mistaken the HANS was still a novelty at the time and I think many of the veteran guys initially rejected it ..
Bill Kittleman Jeff Gordon and a few others begged him to wear it. Approximately 25-35% of the drivers were wearing it at that time . But in all reality it could have been primarily the lack of a safer barrier that took his life.
Yeah that exactly mirrors a comment I posted yesterday, in that I speculated whether a softer wall installed much earlier in time would have been enough to overcome the other safety elements that Dale and many others had largely rejected
Naw I think it's the fact he stopped racing to win and instead wanted his teammates to be in front of him. If he would have raced to win I dont think he goes into the wall. He looked faster than his son and Waltrip.

When one of your heroes dies, it kills you a little bit inside. My sister in law called and asked me if I was okay. I said yeah, why? She said Dale died in that crash. I fell into a squat position and said you're lying. She said check the news. I couldn't stop crying. I happened to be at the gym on a treadmill when they were televising his memorial. I had to stop and I cried again in front of dozens of people. I will never forget that day.
It's crazy how smooth that crash looked compared to others where the driver climbs out like nothing.
Sadly that's the difference between wearing the proper safety equipment. It was just ONE thing he had to use, and he refused to use it. Shows how important these safety measures and improvements really are.
Not too many years before this. Dale himself was actually one of the many that climbed right out of the front of the roll cage.
I watched it live, and was 15 years old. He's my all time favorite and have basically fallen away from racing since, never picking a new favorite. The man was a true legend. I will never forget the Intimidator, a legend never dies!

We all lost a part of the world that was good, not just NASCAR.
Too this day, I have a massive amount of love for the Earnhardt family.
3:49 Darryl Waltrip has it wrong. Schrader's impact on Earnhardt did not jolt Earnhardt's head sideways. What Schrader's car did was (so very unfotunately) collide with Earnhardt's car to point it more directly into the wall. For years I've been saying that was a KEY FACTOR as to why Dale hit the wall so hard. Not necessarily because of Marlin's bump at the outset. And because of his great skill, Dale was actually going to correct himself enough NOT to hit the wall so directly. But the second unfortunate bump from Schrader's car (no fault of Schrader) took that away 2:07. So sad.....So sad.
DJR yeah I suppose he just pushed him to the wall harder
You’re right, you can clearly see Dale steering in a way so that he wouldn’t go head on into the wall and instead just wall ride it. But then he bumps Schrader and all of sudden his car clearly gets turned head on into the wall. But it definitely ain’t Ken’s fault.
If you look frame by frame, Marlin raises up off the inside, he's moving towards Dale when the collision occurred and he immediately pulled back and down on his own accord... something to think about
@@diceblue6817 Dale bumped Sterling not the other way around. He went too far down
Didn't know how bad the crash was...but the car hitting the wall and then getting hit on the right side around the same time is very tragic! 😢
no Dirty Dale didnt use the Helmet Restraint which led to his demise

KBS117 lots time
it's time we moved on !
He got hit on the right side before he hit the wall he would of saved it if ken wasn’t there.
That was bad
Even after all this time, this still is a heart wrencher.
I still cry and get tears in my eyes when they are talking about dale Earnhardt sr

It was the first nascar race we watched when we left the south to move out west. I still remember that final lap vividly.
So sad I was prollly in ur age group 6-12 years old I was when I saw this !!!!!!!
This is the first time I’ve seen this video. I still cry today at our loss. Let’s put aside his life as a racer for a moment. Dale Sr. was an amazing human being. A great loss for NASCAR, for his fans and for his family. RIP Dale. Know you are truly missed.
Alot of people don't know this. But Dale actually donated $150,000 to The Shriners Hospital
God was just like "Hey come up here" This Ayrton dude keeps winning everything
Now this put a smile on my face🙂

Two of the very, very best, robbed way too early
He went doing what he loved. Bless his family and friends. A legend of the time. RIP 21 years later and I still shed tears.
That last lap still sends chills down my spine coming out of turn 4.
Dale was my uncles favorite racer as a kid, and my uncles first race was the one where his favorite racer Dale #3 lost his life
A guidance counselor a school I went to went to the race. She was on the front stretch and had pictures of Dale in the wall and in the infield.
How heartbreaking for him
I wasn't a big Dale Sr fan but i did respect him as a driver. I'm watching this on 3/2/21, and it still brings tears.
It’s been exactly two years since this comment was posted
RIP Dale Earnhardt miss you NASCAR not the same
4:05 you can see his face.
Not really!
The pain in Chocolate, Richard, and Kenny's faces is as real as it gets, damn I feel for Kenny having to live with that image the rest of his life
Kenny has never told anyone what Dale looked like in his car and I don't blame him.
@JJA1987 didn't I hear right even though he said he didn't know he was dead he was telling people off camera like Jr that he didn't think he was gonna make it????
Dale with his cheesy mustache above his big old grin. Miss you, Sir! Forever!!😢💔
I was born in 2007 but when I was told this story I was in tears and thinking about earnhart Jr and how bad he must of felt I was trying to figure out what happened and this I'm crying all over again

@@jerrybrumbley9060 Hey man, that was the wrong thing to say. How would you feel if that was your father, brother, etc. I guarantee you that if that was a loved one of yours, you wouldn't be talking shit. Also millions of people's idol. No reason for saying that.
jerry brumbley screw you
fuck who
let me tell you this jerry brumbley what ever the hel kind of name that is if you just upset that jr didnt coudnt and would never be able to fill his fathers shoes i can understand but jr is still his son so that makes him a son of a legend i beleive if sr would of made it and jr got ten mre yars of training and fathering he might of filled sr's shoes that or he may not want to fill his shoes and let his dad's legend stay his and not be a legacey
My mother first stumbled upon this sport 33 years ago, but she didn’t fully watched it until ‘92, and she became a big Dale fan. While Dale crashed in ‘01, she said it was the worst accident that she had witness, even though it didn’t seemed that bad of a wreck, but it claimed the life of her favorite driver. Today she hasn’t watched a full race since 2017, and as of currently her favorite driver is Kevin Harvick, and I bet Dale will still be her all-time favorite for many years to come. RIP Dale.
RIP Dale Earnhardt Sr. (April 29, 1951 - February 18, 2001), aged 49
You will always be remembered as a legend.
After Dale's death I heard it said that this was the only event in history that made millions of grown men cry. And I believe it. Such a sad day.
Just came across this again, still breaks my heart and I never personally new him.
