John Gibbons is a registered Osteopath, Lecturer and Author and is demonstrating how to manipulate the cervical spine with a HVT / Grade 5 technique and he demonstrates on his tattooist.
Please note: This technique demonstrated in the video is purely a revision of how to manipulate this area of the cervical spine and is only for appropriately skilled therapists like osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists and should NOT be performed by anybody else.
There are many courses John Gibbons offers and the Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass is a comprehensive, must-have roadmap from firstly understanding all of the related functional anatomy, through to assessing and subsequently treating the region of the cervical spine. The course text is enriched with anatomical drawings throughout, with detailed explanations which accompany the lessons. The literature is complimented by the associated videos which further explain and expand upon topics such as neurological testing using the patella hammer, common neuropathies, pathologies, and differential diagnoses for pain arising to the cervical spine. It is an indispensable resource for physical therapists and bodyworkers.
Alongside real-life case studies and guidelines for hands-on work with clients and patients, The Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass demystifies and succinctly presents everything you need to know to be confident and competent in this area; from how to diagnose specific nerve conditions as a result of disc pathology to understanding how to differentiate motion from C1 & C2 (AA Joint) as compared to the rest of the cervical spine.
The Vital Cervical Spine Masterclass will enable you to:
- Assess the cervical spine nervous system using a patella (reflex) hammer, myotome (muscle) testing and dermatome (sensory) testing
- Determine whether pain in the shoulder, arm or hand is in fact a referral pattern originating from the cervical spine
- Utilise active and passive range of motion tests to determine if the pathology is a muscular or a joint issue
- Decide at what level a cervical disc may have herniated
- Know what to do with the findings of your neurological assessment and the circumstances under which to refer patients for more specialist care

@@JohnGibbonsYOU ARE SO AWESOME 🤩
I love your new arm tattoo i would love a neck adjustment from you someday
Thanks. Regards-JG
Hi John, for us Osteopath Manual Therapists (not Dr.) in the US, how long would you typically hold a grade 4 mobilization technique in the cervical region. We repeat 3 times usually. Just curious on your thoughts from evidence based results you have. Thank you Sir
I'm a Chiropractor in the US. I have never ran across an Osteopath Manuel Therapist here. To my knowledge a lot of them are in Canada.
Ive obviously been adjusted by other Chiropractors, DO's who do OMT manipulation.
I would love to be adjusted by one of you guys. Do you guys do Cervical HVLA like most of us DC's? The few times I be been adjusted by a DO, they did not do HVLA on my neck.
@@thebacdoc6464 I/We don’t do HVLA. Canada and other countries have different regulations. We create similar and potentially better outcomes from a variety of different modalities. 50 minute sessions produce different outcomes.
@@JeffStuesser I can do a good adjustment, in less than five minutes, which means I can help a lot of people in 50 minutes.
I'm not here taking jabs at you, actually quite the opposite. I want to know about it, and would love to be adjusted by one. Where and how do I find one in the US, like you mentioned?
Also for the record, a lot of practitioners can't do what an Osteopath does like John, and what Chiropractors are trained to do, that is Manuel adjusting. Its an art, no two DCs adjust actually the same either.
I've been practicing for thirty years, its taken me a lot of time to perfect my skills. For example I do HVLA, we call it Manuel adjusting, and the technique I use a lot on cervical adjustments, is called the Gonstead technique. Its done with the patient seated. Its all lateral to, no rotary...
What I'm getting at, a lot of DCs are not proficient in that, because its considered an advanced technique. Some Chiropractic schools don't even teach it, I heard.
I'm always open to try different practitioners for manipulation, as long as they are trained for it.
I notice with DO's that do OMT manipulation, do mostly strain and counter strain for the neck, more soft tissue type stuff, but they do, do HVLA on the mid back, and lower back.
I know in Europe, they have Chiropractors and Osteopaths, like John, who does know how to adjust BTW.
I have been finding someone who teach this for long time, do you do course? I really want to learn this.
Thank you, regards, JG
Guys are you in the uk and where is the clinic pleaee ? if i want to book for s nick and back adjustment ?
Thank you. Regards, JG
Hi Doc. I have a back problem beneath my right rhomboid side muscles. Sometimes when am seated in a normal sitting position l don't feel pain. But when l stretch l get this sharp pain deep under my rhomboid muscles on the right side. It's been years now.
What do you mean by when you stretch ?
Thank you, regards, JG

Thanks for the hearts...regards JG
Aussi inutile que dangereux, je préfère voir ses mobilisations thoraciques qui elles peuvent avoir une certaine utilité dans la mobilité
Please don't do this. Greetings, your neurologist.
find someone good and experience this. it will change your mind.
Interesting. Usually folks are more concerned with compromising the vertebral artery as opposed to the neurology. What is your reasoning?
Screw neurologists. How about that?
@@kenshii9d147 the have too much pride to look at the level of achievement from chiro.
We should all respect each other’s practice and their opinions.
Hopefully he doesn't have vertigo lol
