John Gibbons is a registered Osteopath, Lecturer and Author and is demonstrating how to assess the cervical spine using the 'translation' test to ascertain open or closed facet joints. John then demonstrates a manipulation with a HVT / Grade 5 the cervical spine to open and close the facet joints.
Please note: This technique demonstrated in the video is purely a revision of how to manipulate this area of the cervical spine and is only for appropriately skilled therapists like osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists and should NOT be performed by anybody else.
There are many courses John Gibbons offers and the Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass is a comprehensive, must-have roadmap from firstly understanding all of the related functional anatomy, through to assessing and subsequently treating the region of the cervical spine. The course text is enriched with anatomical drawings throughout, with detailed explanations which accompany the lessons. The literature is complimented by the associated videos which further explain and expand upon topics such as neurological testing using the patella hammer, common neuropathies, pathologies, and differential diagnoses for pain arising to the cervical spine. It is an indispensable resource for physical therapists and bodyworkers.
Alongside real-life case studies and guidelines for hands-on work with clients and patients, The Vital Cervical Spine Online Masterclass demystifies and succinctly presents everything you need to know to be confident and competent in this area; from how to diagnose specific nerve conditions as a result of disc pathology to understanding how to differentiate motion from C1 & C2 (AA Joint) as compared to the rest of the cervical spine.
The Vital Cervical Spine Masterclass will enable you to:
- Assess the cervical spine nervous system using a patella (reflex) hammer, myotome (muscle) testing and dermatome (sensory) testing
- Determine whether pain in the shoulder, arm or hand is in fact a referral pattern originating from the cervical spine
- Utilise active and passive range of motion tests to determine if the pathology is a muscular or a joint issue
- Decide at what level a cervical disc may have herniated
- Know what to do with the findings of your neurological assessment and the circumstances under which to refer patients for more specialist care

Hey Sir Gibbons!
The Mobs was explained very well. Could you explain again slowly how to manipulate C2/³ right facet Fix in closed position and left facet Fix in open position? Thank you very much.
God bless you sir. ❤️
Very informative knowledge . Most important for me. Thank you so much.
Most welcome - regards JG
Very useful. Just amazed at how everyone is videoing instead of just listening and then following up with the video that’s being taken at the best angle if they want to review.
Its normal when I teach these courses - regards JG
@@JohnGibbons I imagine! I must try to see you teach in person… and see if I can resist doing the same!😜
Amazing teacher,amazing knowledge….👏👏👏

Hello Sir ,
Thank you for the great video.
Could you please name the dysfunction in this video ?
So here the things that are clear.
1. Translating from L to R is difficult.
2. Extension improves the translation .. so it "can" extend.
We generally name the motion that the vertebrae "can" do.
So will the dysfunction be ERSL ?
John as always expertly explained. I am dyslexic so this is a difficult one for me to write down in client notes. But feeling my way I am there with your voice to guide me. A Big Thank You.
Thank you! Cheers Regards JG
Brilliant, I get it. When you eant me or a guinea pig. As I'm still having issues. UK
John,
I am a physio in the U.S. when you performed the HVT closing technique, was your thrust direction infeior medial and posterior? Also, did you just use side bending to same side and opposite rotation to achieve the lock down to the level? Thank you!
Great to see everyone learning on there phone during a Hands on class
You are agreat valuble teacher ever l have seen with your great HEART...I wish to learn more of these teq.from you to help suffering people,.thank you again.

Brilliant video John. I’ve been watching and learning from your videos for a while now while at uni.
If you could only teach our practical class! ha ha 🤙🏻
Cheers.
One should never learn a hands on approach on UA-cam. Hope you do not break your patients
Noted and thanks for the comments - regards JG
I agree - that's why I teach students in a clinic environment - regards JG
nice
Thanks, regards JG
Why do the movements have to be quick, flicking? Sometimes my joints or neck cracks just moving slowly under muscle tension. I don't get why my chiropractor has to be so jerky with it. BTW these videos are really interesting just as a patient.
Mr John, i would like to communicate with u regarding osteopath online training... How to communicate with u. I have been learning manipulation for 5 years from TCM and physiotherapy but I would like to have evaluate my skill...
Hi, thanks for message - online spinal course link bodymaster-method.mykajabi.com/SpinalManipulationMobilisation
@@JohnGibbons mr jhon how to communicate with u from WhatsApp?
What about neutral dysfunctions ? Is that still a thing?
It is for Scoliosis - regards JG
I hope you translate the video into Arabic so we can understand what you are saying, Doctor ❤
Why is it that every neurologist has told me that you should never ever go to a chiropractor?
I doubt they actually said that...I am an osteopath by the way - regards JG
@@JohnGibbons I have in my c6 and c7 nerve root damage in the foramen which makes my arm hurt all the time, weakness, etc. I went to several over the years and they all said not to go.
