I have a 88 1600 old U Haul . I built a deck on it and have worked it for 11 years . I installed a 5.9 cummins with the 47rh automatic out of a 93 dodge got 5 years out of the transmission had to rebuild it . Works really well does 65 on the hiway 70 down hill lol love the look of yours gives me ideas for my old girl . O and I got over a million that 5.9 runs ever day
It's so easy to get two wheel drive vehicles stuck, even in grass! Have you ever tried the brake trick to get both rear wheels to hook and spin equally? Great video, I enjoy seeing trucks taken out of their comfort zones.
@@MillerFamilyFarms Oh haha it's been a while for this comment. I have a GMC two wheel drive rollback that isn't a pavement queen. I move buildings to pulling down trees with it. If you think there is a chance the truck will spin and get stuck in wet grass/mud especially on an incline, you can apply brake pressure and then apply the throttle and slowly let of the brakes once the truck is moving a few feet. I've hooked to trees and didn't do this and dug a deep hole on the driver side. I had to unhook and pull up and do this method to get the truck to actually move forward and usually the tire marks are minimal. You're causing both rear tires to spin. It has saved me over and over again. I can't say if it works in all trucks, you just have to try it.
Going back and watching a few older videos... I wish they had made a lot more of the S series in four wheel drive. A 4x4 DT466 crew cab would be an amazing tow rig. Regardless, your truck looks sweet even if it spins once in a while!
About to get a S1700 with D190 9.0 Diesel engine and Dana 5+2 transmission 14 foot dump truck converted from a stake bed lumber truck. Says it has 162000 miles on the odometer. Runs like a top. Looking to use it to start up my own dump truck for hire business as no one does 8-12 yard bulk loads around me anymore. Everyone is into the 3/4 ton pickup and dump trailer craze. Going to ask my buddy if he is willing to do a payment plan. He wants 1500 for it. Bought it off the town to use it for hauling hay bales but realized it would only get used 1 month out of the year.
Just found myself one of these in the UK a 1981 S1704, 9 litre ex USAF with 31k miles from new. Not picked it up or seen it yet. Hope it sounds this good.
That’s a good looking old truck. I’m slowly becoming a fan of these old school 6 wheel tractors. What is the engine powering it? Sounds like it might be a 6.9 or 7.3 idi naturally aspirated.
The little off road cart was incredibly helpful and The owner knew it could. That was awesome! But why not the backhoe tractor? I’m assuming it was broken..
Just thought we’d try it with the RTV and see. Clayton hadn’t drove the M6060 at this point so I didn’t feel it was time for him to learn right then. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got an 84 model with 9.0 with a double winch wrecker body . It has less than 15000 miles on it. Air Force had it , I guess they didn’t have to tow many air planes! LOL
Cool. When you were getting out of the ditch i noticed the frame had a fair bit of sway. is this normal? Im planning on building a motorhome out of one. and havent accounted for sway in the frame.
You can email a picture to khtractors@gmail.com, I actually have a dump bed on this truck now and use a 1992 DT466 to pull the trailer. Thanks for watching
ive got an 89 s1900 and want to convert it to 4x4 , this video is just a confirmation... anyone have any tips or experience that could ballpark estimate cost of parts for the build?
@@bradyweber7278 the stacks worked out good. I just used some tubing to mount them on and ran the engine exhaust up into the bottom of the tubing. Gives it a nice sound.
@@bradyweber7278 I used 6” square across then the stacks set down over 4” gas pipeline which measures 4.5” outside diameter. You can wrap a thin piece of steel around that pipe and it’s a perfect fit for a 5” stack to slip down over.
Yes it’s been a good truck! I’m running it as a flat bed dump now. It’s under powered for our hills but I get by. Recently bought a 4900 with the DT466 to pull my trailer. Thanks for watching!
@@pimpy_og9128 I don’t know much on the 9.0 engines. Mine is a 6.9. I would check any symptoms related to head gasket issues which is common on v8 diesels. Most all International diesels also requires a coolant additive and filter. It’s important those filters are change regularly. Also let it run long enough to to get the injector pump warm, sometimes if they are beginning to fail they run fine cold then start to act up after it’s hot. Just a few things I can think of.

I missed these types of trucks!

I'm going to look at an 88 S1600 tomorrow, 7.3 idi 5 speed. Supposedly had a full overhaul on the engine courtesy of Uhaul less than 1000 miles ago.
There definitely not over powered but fairly dependable and good driving trucks. Best of luck!
