I'm glad to hear you found what you were looking for, I spent more than a decade wondering and trying to figure out the name of this film, my mothers hair dresser gave me a copy to watch when i was 8-10 ish, only took till i was in my 20's to figure out what it was and where it came from, can say since finding it I've watched alot of studio ghibli
I've watched the movie a plenty of times with my grandma when i was young. She passed away some years ago. Even tho im not the type of guy crying alot after someone died, i always do when i watch or hear princess mononoke. All the memories and all the pain collected deep down in me comes out. Letting me remenbe how hard life is. Letting me sit here and cry... This is and will always be my favoite movie. Every single part of it is a masterpiece.
Can't say I completely understand since I'm not you.. But I can feel this. Had an aunt, who was a second mother to me, used to pick Ghibli movies up back when VHS tapes were a thing and we watched them together, along with the others later on when dvd was the norm. Laughed and cried together throughout the years.. She also passed away, many moons ago. Sharing a story for a story I guess.. we're lucky to have had some of the best people in our lives, and have something to remember them by. I'll stop rambling on, take it easy n take care
I appreciate you sharing this, it must have taken a lot! I'm from Mexico, and I also associate this movie with my grandmother, who also passed away not too long ago. When I was really young, I bought a pirated copy of Princess Mononoke and other Ghibli films and watched them when I visited my grandmother over the weekends. My aunt would buy me snacks and my gradnmother would cook my favorite meals, and it was just honestly the best time of my childhood. Amazing how shared experiences travel across countries.

This was the first hand-drawn animated film I had ever watched in theaters, and it was the first anime film I had ever seen. It was a truly magical experience. Can't wait to watch Laputa, Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, and all the others. But this will always have a special place in my heart and mind.
My favorite is Howl's moving castle, but princess mononoke sure held a special place for the bitter sweet story, it felt like a different experience watching it as an adult now
Nausicaa, Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies are my top 3 Ghibli movies. That said, I enjoy all of their filmography. Other ones i like very much are: Only Yesterday, Ponyo, Marnie and From Up on Poppy Hill.
It's so interesting how many different versions of the soundtrack there are. The bassoon solo and the TERRIFYING orchestral pulses starting at 24:00, and then the absolutely beautiful ending around 27:00, do not happen in any other version of this soundtrack. There's small changes too, like an arpeggio being major instead of minor, or a harmony that wasn't there before... and all different instrumentation too. I wonder why? Not complaining though, it enables me to listen to this soundtrack I love all over again with new ears.
My most watched movie of 37 years of life so far, and my favourite! Watched this all the way through over 50 times and at least halfway through over another 50 times by now - the boar stampede onwards gets heavy for me in some moods. A friend introduced me to Miyazaki via this movie as a teenager and it tapped into 5-year-old me instantly - I used to watch clouds alone, didn't trust humans, thought trees were my best friends hehe. And Joe Hisaishi... well, thanks to My friend, then Miyazaki, I have been a massive fan of his ever since, too! Masters collaborating on so many beautiful pieces of work. I'm glad I lived these decades and had these opportunities... no I'm not welling up at all right now!

I saw this movie for the first time last night. The visuals, the soundtrack, the world building, the story; they were all incredible. When Ashitaka left the village to move west, it was such a grand shot that I feel like nothing else compares to it. There’s so much to be emotional about this movie. It’s a true work of art and, in my opinion, a true example of Japanese storytelling and playwriting at its best.

This film deserves every bit of adoration it will ever get. I remember watching it as a little boy and simply falling in love with it! It's score, its animation, characters, sound design, the hope and humanity of it all! I fear calling it an anime, as I feel it'd be a disservice, Ghibli films are always on another level in animation. I've always got to watch this film at least 3 times a year. I'm going to make sure my son watches this, haha.

I saw Joe Hisaishi live in London last year. When this song came on, I was fully crying. It's not just my favourite Ghibli movie, it's my favourite movie.
such a beautiful score for such a beautiful movie
I saw this beautiful anime in the cinema with my big brother when I was a child. Our family shares a strong bond. Every time I hear this soundtrack I cry with happiness and sadness. It's my fav Anime for all time ❤ it is the most beautiful music I have ever heard. I want the legend of Ashitaka to be played at my funeral.
Most beautiful string playing
2:10〜
very wonderful
Greatest animated movie ever made, IMO. Yes, better than Disney and Dreamworks and Pixar, IMO. Studio Ghibli rarely fucks up and this one had it all. The score is well...............just amazing.
Merci papa de m'avoir fait grandir depuis toute petite dans le monde des studio Ghibli.
I love it so much… thanks for sharing ❤
This movie is one reason why i believe that if Nintendo, ever decides to make a Zelda Movie it should be ghibili.
Thanks for hosting this.
Back again.
This score is such a banger! Anyone else getting a little Rimsky-Korsakov at 14:37?
Beautiful
This is so good. I can't wait for the new studio ghibli movie
The guns will rust. Grass will grow, and there'll be nothing left of any of this.
The land will heal itself, as everything does in the end.
Cette musique résume la tragédie de ce monde...
2024 here i love Princess Mononoke
15:04 Fugues in film soundtracks never get old.
I haven't watched princess mononoke but I'll probably watch it soon it seems like a nice movie ^^
It is a really good movie! I was really surprised by how mature their approach to the topic was.
What do you think on it
Please watch it! It's so mind-opening and it made me cry. It's one of my favourite movies ever and I don't usually enjoy movies
Wow im gonna cry.
Sooo damn beautiful... 🥺🖤
All these views and comments mean how beautiful some people are, just like how beautiful this Movie is... or may be they are more beautiful.
