My mother rented this movie for us to watch together shortly after her divorce with my dad. I had been having random memories of this movie since I was kid and could never remember the name of the movie. It almost seemed somewhere out of time or maybe I had dreamed it and no one I asked about the story or animations could respond with the answer I needed. In 2015 my mother passed away from stage four colon cancer while I was away. Today I found it scrolling across HBO after I put my son on his school bus. It was almost instant, how the emotions overwhelmed me, so much nostalgia. Thank you for sharing this💯🖤

I'm glad to hear you found what you were looking for, I spent more than a decade wondering and trying to figure out the name of this film, my mothers hair dresser gave me a copy to watch when i was 8-10 ish, only took till i was in my 20's to figure out what it was and where it came from, can say since finding it I've watched alot of studio ghibli

I've watched the movie a plenty of times with my grandma when i was young. She passed away some years ago. Even tho im not the type of guy crying alot after someone died, i always do when i watch or hear princess mononoke. All the memories and all the pain collected deep down in me comes out. Letting me remenbe how hard life is. Letting me sit here and cry... This is and will always be my favoite movie. Every single part of it is a masterpiece.

Can't say I completely understand since I'm not you.. But I can feel this. Had an aunt, who was a second mother to me, used to pick Ghibli movies up back when VHS tapes were a thing and we watched them together, along with the others later on when dvd was the norm. Laughed and cried together throughout the years.. She also passed away, many moons ago. Sharing a story for a story I guess.. we're lucky to have had some of the best people in our lives, and have something to remember them by. I'll stop rambling on, take it easy n take care

I appreciate you sharing this, it must have taken a lot! I'm from Mexico, and I also associate this movie with my grandmother, who also passed away not too long ago. When I was really young, I bought a pirated copy of Princess Mononoke and other Ghibli films and watched them when I visited my grandmother over the weekends. My aunt would buy me snacks and my gradnmother would cook my favorite meals, and it was just honestly the best time of my childhood. Amazing how shared experiences travel across countries.

It's so interesting how many different versions of the soundtrack there are. The bassoon solo and the TERRIFYING orchestral pulses starting at 24:00, and then the absolutely beautiful ending around 27:00, do not happen in any other version of this soundtrack. There's small changes too, like an arpeggio being major instead of minor, or a harmony that wasn't there before... and all different instrumentation too. I wonder why? Not complaining though, it enables me to listen to this soundtrack I love all over again with new ears.

My most watched movie of 37 years of life so far, and my favourite! Watched this all the way through over 50 times and at least halfway through over another 50 times by now - the boar stampede onwards gets heavy for me in some moods. A friend introduced me to Miyazaki via this movie as a teenager and it tapped into 5-year-old me instantly - I used to watch clouds alone, didn't trust humans, thought trees were my best friends hehe. And Joe Hisaishi... well, thanks to My friend, then Miyazaki, I have been a massive fan of his ever since, too! Masters collaborating on so many beautiful pieces of work. I'm glad I lived these decades and had these opportunities... no I'm not welling up at all right now!

I saw this movie for the first time last night. The visuals, the soundtrack, the world building, the story; they were all incredible. When Ashitaka left the village to move west, it was such a grand shot that I feel like nothing else compares to it.

It's score, its animation, characters, sound design, the hope and humanity of it all! I fear calling it an anime, as I feel it'd be a disservice, Ghibli films are always on another level in animation. I've always got to watch this film at least 3 times a year. it's the best and most beautiful movie for me, the music is wonderful, so beautiful and powerful. I watched this movie for the first time when I was 5, now I'm 14 and I watch it every year on my birthday because it's my tradition. I love this movie and every time I listen to this music it cries. And when I draw (because I draw professionally), I turn on music from this, either from Lputa or the Hautu Mobile Castle, and the most wonderful things are created, full of throws and color. I love that movie.

@@SarahJayne2603 watched the movie again this week, I recommend everyone does the same, my favourite part is when ashitaka pleads peace while breaking up Aboshi and San, that whole scene from the rooftop till he leaves is just perfectly orchestrated between the soundtrack, voice actors and movement.

I just watch this anime since I'm still a child. At that time, I was scared of some scenes in the movie and didn't really get the plot. But now when I aged a little, I love the movie and its message a lot. When finding out this playlist, I figured it out that I also love its soundtrack huhu TvT. A chronical color (not sure about this word)

    Damn, here's a movie I thought I almost forgot.
It's been more than 10 years now since I haven't heard this beautiful soundtrack. It just brings back lovely memories. I was in 9th grade when I first watched that movie and back then I had a cute little Ipod my big brother gave me all the way from the States with this movie and the movie "Stardust" downloaded on it. I think I watched it in the original language if I'm not mistake . Needless to say that I didn't understand much but it always teared me up. I think I should watch it again with the subtitles this time!
