hey thanks for this, i am looking at the 890r (prob a 2nd hand one with hopefully low mileage...) still need to plan a test ride to really get a feeling of it. I am coming from a 821 monster (2015) which has been great... but its time for a change. Also thinking maybe go up a category to the 1290 r but not sure i will be able to keep my license for long with the sdr. No intention to track it either... anyway keep the videos coming, watched most of them till now ;)
Thank you for putting out these videos. They are entertaining and at times quite helpful. I use my 890 r cruise control all the time. Like a surface street pit lane limiter where I know the cops always sit, lol. But yeah, my 2021 q.s. has never worked probably. If GP shift would solve the QS problem I’d probably do it. Though I have no experience with GP shift setup. Keep up the good👏
The Duke 890 R is one of the 2(3) bikes I'm interested in, CC is a must have for me now after owning a tuono 660 factory, I LOVE the sound of the duke, but I want something more smooth now, especially since I will do trackdays. The Striple 765 RS would be amazing for trackdays, but it's so smooth and engineered perfectly. But as Austrian I kinda want a hooligan duke at some point.
@@jamessheppard990 I literally have a Aprilia dealer within 5 mins driving. Besides that I wrecked mine, I def. miss more HP like around 130hp and maybe a tiny bit more smoother, besides that, literally perfect bike for me. My first trackday, I had no issues to adjust traction on the fly, and even better, get my lap times and shows lean angle.
Hey James, Great video, Have you track day the bike since installing cruise? After my first track day I lost cruise, since then it works only randomly. Also I found the same with the MTC, I had to put it to 1 cause it was so frustrating coming out of a corner and twisting the throttle and zero output cause still leaned over and it wouldnt let the power come on, then all of a sudden it was full on. I found the only place it felt like proper power was MTC 1. I think I'm gonna get the quick turn throttle for the track days. And regarding the lap timer I am looking at a couple. I seen the new race box mini s which is tiny and price seems ok. I also really like the Starline but due to the little space in the bar area I am leaning more to the Mini Box S As a fellow Canadian, It always sucks paying the duties and taxes lol
Hey there, thanks for the comment. I've had no problem with cruise before and after the track day... after I posted the video, I took the bike for a quick 100km spin to ensure the oil change was OK -- no leaks. Cruise worked ok! As for MTC, at Level 3 it was far more manageable/normal than 9, but plan to wind it down progressively at the next track day. I spent my 48th birthday at the hospital in Gimli due to a highside... R10 tires, 1200cc Bandit racer, rain... not a good combination, so the novel idea of traction control is still pretty exciting! I'll look into the race box mini... I actually had one of the chinese GPS lap timers a few years ago -- worked great, until it didn't! For $130 CAD plus shipping, it's a good price...!
I bought my 2023 Duke 890r in February this year and already have 8k kms on it, no track days but I find the mountain roads here in BC are plentiful to enjoy, I didn’t get the cruise or the tech pack as I wanted to just ride it as it was,as I can add those features anytime and really would only want the cruise and the quick shifter, do you think the tech pack is worth is for the street?
Honestly, if I could see in the future and knew I was going to find the 848 for the price I did... I likely would NOT have gotten the track pack. The QS is amazing to me, but not needed on the street. Cruise control is essential on the prairies, though. Track mode is a blast... on the track. If I lived in the BC mountains (someday...) I would leave it as is.
Hi James, great videos btw. I love the 890s, but anytime I sit on one, my right boot is pushed off the peg by the exhaust (i have boots size of 12 US/47 EUR). Do you experience the same thing, if so how do you get around it?
I don't -- I have size 10 shoes/boots, but I'm also running the powerparts rearsets -- perhaps those move my feet away from the exhaust? I put them on within weeks of buying my bike, so I can't remember having boot clearance issues...
*Nice video. About to buy my first 890 r 2021. Excited!*

Thanks for the kind comments!
I love GP shifting, all my bikes have it, including my cbr 1000RR, id really recommend it. I mean... for tracks.

the Aprilia was high on my list of possibles, the only thing was there is no Aprilia Dealer for about 1000 miles... what did you think of it?
