Gotta say I absolutely love both these exercises you show here. I learned these lat pulldowns tweaks, like keeping the humerus in front of your body and not letting it move behind your body to actually target the lats and not upper back, from Paul Carter and it's made all the difference. Love the chest-supported T bar row because I can get a huge stretch and also arch my back at the top for a massive pump, but my current gym doesn't have one. Also been doing your cable row/pulldown hybrid variation the last few weeks and absolutely loving them for lats.
to mimic the tbar row you can put the extremity of an olympic barbell in the low corner of a squat rack which will prevent the bar from going anywhere. Then you take a v-handle and use it to lift the other extremity of the barbell (by placing yourself in the same position as he was in the video but without the chest support)
My two favourite back exercises are: Inverted rows - safe, great contraction at the top and great for posture... I have an adjustable weight vest that allows me to progress this Neutral grip pull up - safest pull up position and most well rounded for upper body muscles
Tried this and now it's pretty much replaced lat pulldowns and chins for me. Always had a hard time getting mind muscle connection with my lats but this lat pulldown is brutal! Keep it up Teo!
Bro! I just tried exercise 1 today for a few reps and it felt a-maze-ing! I feel like it's really gonna make a difference to my back training. The stability is unparalleled.
Back is my favorite day to train. Something about a fully developed back looking like a shredded cobra is just badass and beautiful. Great video as always Coach!
My favorite lat builder is a low row chest supported with supinated grip machine for shortening. For lengthening, I like a seated neutral grip lat pull down where the handles are directly in front of the shoulders.
And that’s reason enough to have the best back you can get. Too much time people worry about what’s best, find what they think is best, not like it and quit Talking to myself first few years of lifting
Today is back and biceps day and I'm really psyched to try this lat pulldown variant. I've never really been able to focus on my lats correctly and I think this is going to help me.
I've been using your version of incline pulldowns for maybe a year now, after seeing Fouad Abiad demonstrating on his channel. (He called them "Hoss Pulldowns." ) The contraction feels SO much better than conventional pulldowns. Nothing else gives me that on fire feeling in my lats. Also I've recently come to love Seated 1-Arm Cable Rows, which I saw Flex Wheeler teaching, and also more recently done by Hunter Labrada on Gasp's channel. Love that intense contraction. Thank you for your excellent tutelage Eugene!
Randy, I've seen these "face down, incline bench pulldowns" performed with various cable attachments. At my gym, the one I love to use is an old double-ended kevlar-type strap, which has loops on either end. I'm able to put my hands through each loop and anchor myself to the cable, without using any grip muscles at all. It really helps me take my biceps out of the movement. But I have seen it done with Wide straight bar, close grip V-bar, Rope, Mag grips, ets. The key for me was finding the right placement and angle of the bench, so that the cable attachment does not scrap or hit the brace underneath the bench. I hope my description makes sense. But here is a link to Fouad's video that helped me a lot: ua-cam.com/video/ISvy9OC8nnM/v-deo.html Best of luck to you sir.
Favorite 2 Back exercises (I posted these before watching the video): 1.) Single-Arm DB row (machine or DB) - Provides a crucial stretch that bilateral exercises don’t provide, and I find it hard to feel my Lats working on other movements 2.) 45-degree Barbell Row -Helped my entire back finally blow up, I can really feel my back on this movement. This exercise just works so well for me
Other notes: The barbell row does not hit the floor at the bottom range of movement, so use a surface to create a decline, or use smaller weights. Unlike machines (which are still amazing,) you can find an angle that works for you.
I used to have a job where I had pull 300kg bales across a huge steel bench about 10 times a day the table anchored me down so you could drag huge amounts of weight it put me in a very similar position as your pull down technic and it grew my lats pretty well the stretch from the heavy weight feels amazing too.
I’m so glad I came across your page even if it was at 4-5am after a bad dream 😂 Your content is so refreshing and I love your humility! Thank you for what you do! Can’t wait to keep diving in
For me, I really like standing straight arm cable pullover. I find it easy to manipulate the strength profile by easily altering the starting position. Downside is lack of bracing...but with lots of practice I get an incredible contraction and pump from them. I also like a chest supported db row but the downside is the mismatch of loading v strength curve as you mentioned. But that can be addressed by choosing appropriate loads for a specific portion of the range and perhaps doing/emphasizing those ranges. I do like the freedom of dbs especially from a radioulnar perspective.
T bar row is my favourite back exercise as well but I don't have access to it in this quarantine so I am doing a lot of resistance bands work on my back and other pulling movements and it works like a charm ..never seen this much growth before
Pull ups and chest supported rows are my favorites (and i do deadlift too - this way my whole back is covered). I like bent over rows and single arm rows too.
Thank you again Eugene for another great video! Love both of these exercises, especially the lat pull down with the handles that you introduced me to through ganbaru👌🏼 I love when I can get a full stretch in my back exercise before going for the next rep....if that makes sense
Your production quality is amazing. You are have a great eye for composition and your lighting is amazing. Of course your exercise content is also great. Thanks for putting this out for free.
I like the cable one-arm lat pull in with the arm at about 45 degrees up and about 15 in front pulling with the elbow to the hip. Second would be a barbell row on an incline bench of ~30 degrees with the upper back hanging off for a stretch at the beginning and pulling the bar up and slightly back. The first exercise I got from Doug Brignole and the second from Ben Pakulski whose friend u had in the video 😉
Been doing these two for 3weeks now. I have gotten great results from --Flexion Rows (10-20 reps per set) 5 sets 0RIR (no reps in reserve) Pulldown Drop Set (20-30 reps on first set) 6 sets 0RIR (no reps in reserve)

low-to-high rows (machine or single arm if cables) and probably lat pulldowns but i purposely focus on the upper back. so now i have to watch your video on 2 best upper back exercises
Great video, but to be fair your pulldown form was with too much lean back (maybe to ilustrate a point), that's why line was so pronounced to target more of midback.
Not really. I do have more mobility than most but look at how most people perform lat pulldowns and you'll see the same poor alignment to varying degrees
@@coacheugeneteo found one more exercise, which I've tried yesterday at gym. Uni-lateral seated row, grabing handles diagonally. Never felt back so intensively
Top 2: 1. Chest supported machine row with variable hand positioning and a higher load at the start of the pull (love gyms that have these types where you can change peak resistance). 2. High cable row (Think top cable pulley position, while kneeling). Focus is on lats, but peak contraction ends in the mid back by leaning back a little, because it feels amazing. You've talked about having an actual high seated row in a previous video, and I'm envious of it.
Tried the pull down variation and I have to say it will be my main back movement for a long time. Always had a tough time with mind-muscle connection but this gives me an amazing pump, thank you
@@Miiike you can do rack pulls with an inverted grip like what most people do for Deadlifts, or a double overhand narrow grip (hook grip), or with a double overhand wider grip (snatch grip). And then it's just a rack pull so it's slightly raised off the ground so less lower body stimulus and more upper body focused. Using the snatch grip with rack pulls just works way more of your back than narrower grips 🔥 it forces use to use more of your back muscles because of the position your arms are in

It really helps activate and flood my inner lower lats.
Lat pull downs without a seat or bench. I usually put a mat on the floor and get on my knees. I feel like this gives me more of a stretch at the top of the lift while also increasing the range of motion. Additionally it allows me to pick my own starting point as far as the angle in which I'm pulling at. I also do pull ups but my upper back is drastically under developed. That's why I'm here after all lol. Thanks for the awesome content.
Hey thanks about the lat pull-down alignment advice. I have never seen a bar attachment you use but did some research and found it on line. It certainly makes so much ergonomic sense. 👍
Uncle is the type of guy to include timestamps for a 9min video 😉 Btw for the first exercise,is it okay if I use an actual lat pulldown handle and put two separate single arm handles on each side and do pulldown using that? (I don't have access to the exact equipment which you have shown in the video above) Btw loved the video, I've been asking for this series since a long time and great to see it's upload finally - Jeff Caviliere
this is exactly the answer I would have given, and they are actually the only two exercices I do. But I do gym rings pull up (with the same placement of elbow etc) adding some elastic bands when necessary + the machine chest supported row for upper back
My 2 are single arms cable pull and meadow row with using my preacher pad for stability. I like to change variation every period. Thx for making Tbar rows great again with science.
substitute for chest supported row is a rings row. You actually get the same rounding stretch at the bottom and a similar strength curve. Problem is its harder to progressively overload as its a bodyweight exercise, but you can be creative
Now I know why I feel my lats better on the machine in my fitnessstudio and train there my lats and not on the Pulldowns, because the machine put me in the exact position that you set up in your first exercise with the bench. Thanks!

Top Video! As always
Thank you
Awesome video!!!
Pull ups and seated rows are my go to
Wow I can't believe how similar my lat pulldown technique is to yours. I also use a bench exactly the way you do.
I love the the tbar row.
Yes!
this is exactly the answer I would have given, and they are actually the only two exercices I do. But I do gym rings pull up (with the same placement of elbow etc) adding some elastic bands when necessary + the machine chest supported row for upper back
Excellent!!
My back day goes
barbell rows
Weighted chins
Lat pulldown
Cable curls
Seated incline hammer curls
Barbell/cable shrugs.
Done
My 2 are single arms cable pull and meadow row with using my preacher pad for stability. I like to change variation every period. Thx for making Tbar rows great again with science.
Excellent!
Great video once again, Eugene!
Thank you
substitute for chest supported row is a rings row. You actually get the same rounding stretch at the bottom and a similar strength curve. Problem is its harder to progressively overload as its a bodyweight exercise, but you can be creative
Good one!!
T bar row and chest supported row elbows out.
🙏🙏
Now I know why I feel my lats better on the machine in my fitnessstudio and train there my lats and not on the Pulldowns, because the machine put me in the exact position that you set up in your first exercise with the bench. Thanks!
