Yeah it's definitely short for "gyat damn", it doesn't literally mean "big ass" lol. It's just like saying "OMG!" But it's usually exclaimed for an attractive female with a really nice body (for example big glutes)
Great to see more content for us naturals!!! I have been using your techniques and tips religiously for the past 9 months and I have got very bloody jacked and I am 48 y/o. Who needs PEDs when we got the best advice from Dr Mike
Literally just finished my back workout and thought about how I could improve it lmao. As a fairly new gym bro, your channel has been a go to for efficient exercises, tips and motivation. Thank you Dr Mike !
Yeah the key would be to not overdo it. Like 2-3 back exercises + rear delt and that´s it. I see some people smashing different grips on pulldowns, x types of rows and shit, thats bad especially for naturals. I only do pullups/pulldowns and a row type of exercise for back like they did here.
@@janpetira5130 I do lat pulldowns with a pretty close grip as I try to keep my arms close to my body. Then I do one arm lat pulldowns which really give that mind muscle connection and that massive stretch at the top. The 3rd exercise is what's causing problems, cable rows feel so bad, same for barbell rows. I've picked lat prayers but idk if I should stick to some rowing motion exercise.
@@_SkyEye I've used a rowing-ish machine for traps but i'll try it for lats. It's built so the lift is harder at the bottom which is nice for a deep stretch.
I usually work out at gym but also have plenty of equipments at home including resistance bands which can make pull ups more difficult or easier depending on how i use them. I had to skip my back day at the gym so decided to do it at home and started doing weighted pull ups, slowly decreasing the load every set until i could do no more band assisted pull ups. It was a total of 7 sets and the feeling i got on my lats was unmatched by my regular back day i do at the gym. People really overlook pull ups and not realize sometimes simplicity with good mind muscle connection is the key.
nice 👍 if you vary the grip and width slightly between sets you'll also more thoroughly work all fibres instead of having insane acute DOMS in a few areas. *slight changes*
Pull ups is really all I ever do for back, twice a week and 10 sets of 10 reps. The last 3 sets I make the eccentric part really slow. I've developed a nice back despite not doing a ton of other back workouts
8:41 This is a strange paradox. People complain so much about how the internet is ruining our youth. And I mean, in some ways I suppose they're right I guess. "New Tech" is a South Korean company whose headquarter is at Gimhae, southern province of the country. It began as a copy-brand of Hammer Strength and other western companies. It is a descent alternative for gym owners who cannot afford high-end brands. I don't know if its machines are affordable in North America.
I love showing people pull ups like these and just completely fucking their ego over for the entire workout. Them leaving in absolute misery as I have just dispelled the notion they’re a warmup exercise On a real not I could probably do 4-5 of those slow eccentric at the start. Near 12 after consistent sets. Love to see
Does anyone know if Dr Mike has done a video yet on the actual mechanism of muscle loss? Like, is there a difference between the myscle loss seen from dieting vs coming off of gear, vs atrophy from aging/inactivity, et cetera? I'm currently changing up my routine because its not conducive to actually living my life (im so sore all the time I cant do stuff like clean the house or garden, and eating so many meals a day is so time consuming) so I know i'm going to lose muscle (from dieting, eating only twice a day, and not hitting the gym anymore/only doing basic calisthenics) but im curious if the muscle is just broken down completely, such that if i want it back i need to build it from scratch....or if its just "downregulated" and the water and glycogen stores just deplete and the muscle shrinks.
That video made me crave for my own boys to be old enough for me to coach them in the gym! Good shit, plenty informative, I guess negatives portions are your thing! Thanks for the video.
You guys did a video a while back with barbell Front raise and that last exercise with a regular barbell. I've been working them in 3x10 moderate pace and controlled at the end of my heavy OHP day, and definitely feel like I'm seeing some shoulder growth and a little more definition. It's been good to have some more accessory exercises to add to my routine being restricted to barbell and plates in my garage. Great stuff as always! Thank you
New Tech is a Korean company. The owner of the company really listens to do bodybuilders to invent and modify. Dr. Mike should give them some critique. The owner loves it when people talk crap on his machines
Recently started using the Prime machines for pulling, enjoying the ability to load different ranges for that lengthened bias. Question: I place roughly 80% of total total working weight into that lengthened biased rack position, with 20% in the shortened. Any thoughts on this setup, or would you recommend a different strategy to get better SFR? For what it's worth, I'm able to get better pumps and soreness from doing it this way. The fact that I can grind hard through the lengthened phase of a pulling movement, knowing that the shortened position is easier to hit, makes it easier to track reps, and possibly get more work done.
I love that setup and I do very similarly. In the end, let the SFR be your guide, and make sure that 1.) You feel the ultra stretch and 2.) You're failing close to the stretch when you fail, not at the top. - Dr. Mike
Dr. Mike, can you explain something to me? Was confused by this video. Are you doing assisted pullups -> pullups / assisted pullups -> pullups / assisted pullups -> pullups? Or are you doing 3 sets of assisted and THEN doing bodyweight?
Best excercise for me for the romboids is called bench row with dumbbells ;) need a special bench for that (high enough) lie down horizontally (no incline or decline)
im going in for a mild hernia surgery in 6 werks. i can still lift pretty heavy until the surgery. should i keep strength training up until the surgery? is there any point since i will lose a lot of muscle while recovering from the surgery?
If you don't lift, then you'll start losing muscle sooner than the recovery period. If it were me, training with no problems and the doctor didn't recommend otherwise, I'd still train but look out for any worrying signs.
No offence but you wouldn't find me dead wearing anything with LA on it.. Nice pull ups, rows and face pulls. I just did this workout the day before yesterday.
when you start really fatiguing i strongly believe the top 10% of the movement becomes much less important when lat hypertrophy is the goal. It's so much extra effort just to obliterate your forearms and biceps instead of maintaining lat focus and saving that energy for maximal eccentrics. Thoughts Mike? Edit: When i reach that 2 rir zone i instead will jump assist myself to the top position and milk the shit out of the descent..at least 2 of them..its killer
I couldnt tell you the exact video but i watched another video on RP and mike said exactly that. That the top portion of the movement isn’t particularly as important. I wanna say it was the collab with Alex leonidas.
On the last exercise, to load the lengthen position I pull laterally at the bottom , like trying to rip the bar apart + narrower grip. Also can be done as a pull up if you have no weights but a low hanging pull up bar.
