This show was such a huge part of my childhood! BBC, you seriously need to revive this show somehow. I don't care who you have to backstab, but bring this show back!
Set this up in the desert in Dubai. Have weight classes, with one class being unlimited. Allow any movement - flying, digging, walking etc. Allow guns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers. Have millions of dollars of prize money to cover R&D costs. Allow mech titans! Now you've got a show.
Slight issue... No arena can contain proper napalm (reaches temperatures that can melt steel and shatter ceramic), dual-tandem warheads, sabot rounds, etc. What works in Battle Tech books doesn't work in real life.
Manic Tiger Who needs a stadium. Too dangerous. Have it out in the desert, like where they break land speed records. Have it all filmed by flying drones that dodge the action. Future man, future.
***** And automatic guns might not be that op. Like if u could tank or dodge damage and get up close u could just rip the gun apart. Maybe have some limits on super long range weapons so that cities don't get blown up.
I always used to think that they should completely destroy the robots that loose. But over the last few years I've been involved in a number of robotics competitions (not fighting ones) and I know how devastating it is to see the robot you've worked on for months, maybe years get broken - even accidentally. Razor really is an amazing robot, you couldn't really improve on it with in the rules. A simple, elegant and successful solution.
Wow, this is very different to the broadcast version. This shows how much editing and dubbing was done to it before the show is put on air. I kind of wouldn't mind this coming back as live broadcast - a bit like WWE Raw. It would be like...3 hours long or something, but you'd really see what goes on.
Sadly it wouldn't be the same if every bloke could just rip the model from a 3D printer again and again, the creativity and spirit of knowing someone built that with their bare hands would be gone. Which is what made it so fun..
spongebot64 Yes you could, but you can't just ban stuff because it doesn't fit the rules, for instance, since the technology has advanced so far, where would you stop the bans? There is now brushless motors that can propel 1:5th scale rc vehicles to 50 mph within seconds, and 5th scale is about the size of say.. hypnodisc. It would just be kind of.. different and I don't think it would last, especially how they had such sportsman ship, laughing because both teams loved destruction, even if they lost miserably (hypnodisc vs robogeddon) people now, especially the teenagers of this generation, a high majority of them are very stuck up and only worried about the durability of their smartphones.. not exactly rc robots. By the time you got done banning modern technology, you'd be better off recording the show with a vhs camcorder! I really feel there does need to be another robot wars, I'd love to see a modern day razer but have low hopes :
TehPaws3D Even if you print the parts, it is still a far way to go until the machine will work properly. And design is really not important for this kind of show.
I think if this show would be brought back it would be so awesome with new technology, we could actually manufacture weapons on robots, different types of robots, hell it could be like robocraft.
It's weird to see a Robot Wars fight without the music and commentary. I always kind of assumed the studio got some kind of piped through music to pep the crowd up more instead of total silence. Huh.
Am I the only person who remembers the first series with Jeremy Clarkson, with an entirely different format where they made them compete in obstacle courses and battles of tug-o-war? They still had the fighting but for some reason scrapped the rest of it.
+Banana Waffle! yeah, like something out of a movie. friend diving out of nowhere to save his buddy from the flames. he even dived THROUGH the flames to save the chicken, which just makes it more awesome
A channel called Dave still run the show, but it has been renamed to Robot Wars: Extreme, just have a look through the channel's shows and you'll find out when it is aired.
Razor was always my fave when I was a kid. I remember that my patents would punish me when I was bad by not letting me watch razors fights during the show :( I cried.
It's sort of fascinating to see a bit of this without the TV magic and editing, how noisy the whole place was under the music and crazy commentating from our Jonathan Pearce. I remember vividly watching these things as a kid, I had all the merchendise, still do in a cupboard somewhere. Oh the nostalgia, it hurts. And to learn they're still going as a live event... Bonkers.
What was the armor on these bots made of? Nowadays even robots like Quantum, which are ridiculously powerful, can’t puncture the robots nearly as easily as Razer can to these bots.
This was back when the weight limit was 80kg and armour was, up to the third wars, considered a waste of weight because nothing could really inflict much damage. Then Hypno Disc arrived and thoroughly flipped the meta, but I guess not everyone got the memo.
The only thing this lacks is a good color commentary team. It would have been cool to see a professional broadcaster type like Mauro Ranallo paired up with a former champion robot designer to discuss the mechanics of combat.
I remember one-time a competitor had the balls to pick a fight with he house robot(iron maiden if I recall) and after the time limit the house bot stayed out for some extra time for a bit of vengeance; Kicker is, if I recall, the competitor still managed to win that one.
Hmmm... plated scorpion of death, backwards-running cartoon chicken or wacky velociraptor head? I wonder, who would win? As if I didn't know before watching the video lol.
While it's possibly too late to receive tickets for the new series up in Scotland, there are events going on around the world, with a few major groups doing it around the UK. Maybe google to see any events in the local area :D
+Rennie Ash Well I was asking because in the games he was about 280 but for some reason in the shows he was about 500 so either the people who made the games are retards, or he did get a weight increase somewhere
RetroAdzz I don't know why Razer ever retired, though in its last fight (Tornado - European Champ. semis.) there was a discussion between Ian and his team mates whether they should hand over the judges' decision to their rivals. I suppose this caused the team to break up, which probably explains their absence in Series 7. As for all the others, well, some may have been dismantled for scrap or into something new, while others are probably lurking in storage of their teams. And I agree, it is saddening seeing things like this (if it is true, of course).
RetroAdzz Razor would have no change in the battlebots. Those spinning weapons are in now and they are strong as fuck, thats why warhead doesnt seem to be doing so well either.
robochicken was clearly made for comedy and not much for power, the crusher was super thin, like trying to stab a refrigerator with a needle. Robochicken didn't stand a chance up against the hard pressure of razer's crusher.
If o were to make one of these,it would look like the is7 from world war 2 ,have a bob gun for ranged attacks ,and have lots of armor, I'd call it ,"the shatter dome"
Can someone tell me the names of the house robots? I know one is called Matilda! Thanks a lot! This show is part of my childhood, too! Haha, So interesting!
+Jones Tung: Sir Killalot is the one who put velocirippa on the pit. Sargent is the military tank with flamethrower, Deadmetal is the one with saw disc, Shunt is the snowplow. Theres another 5 others robots in the others seasons.
The other. show, battlebots lost it's contract with CC for whatever reason, but it's still alive as a much smaller venue that takes place in closed-down grocery stores and the like... You don't see many videos from them because they release them as 99cent pay-per-view youtube style. If you look though you can still find some videos on youtube though. The robots are a lot smaller, which is disapointing, but with li-ion and brushless motors, they can pack a hell of a punch in a small size today.
Still remember Razer taking on the house robots directly - even crushing the bulldozer's blade. Probably the most awesome of the robots to ever compete.
Can you imagine if Razer had a flamethrower embedded in the tip of that claw, the sort of damage that could do? Seems to be able to pierce anything. Gets inside the robot, sprays some flame, fries the internals. Ouch.
This show was such a huge part of my childhood!
BBC, you seriously need to revive this show somehow. I don't care who you have to backstab, but bring this show back!
Well, something similar appears to be in the works: www.fightingrobots.co.uk/threads/12558-new-bbc-robotics-competition
That's interesting. Though it sounds more like Techno Games.
Still, might need to keep my eyes and ears open.
spongebot64 It certainly sounds better than the Z-Factor or Britain's Got No Talent or whatever.
It is back!!
It is already on the second epidode season one!!
***** robot wars begins in a couple of weeks, but not on TV
they need to bring this show back the audience is probably bigger then ever before,
That would be awsome
Very cool I miss this show
yeahhh💪🏼
They shouldn't rush it if they do, like they did with that 2016 revival.
They brought it back as well as Razer, who promptly drove in the pit....lol Probably would have gotten ripped by Carbide anyway
Razor was having roast chicken.
Scorpion McCormack i tought the same thing XD
+Scorpion McCormack lol
It's razer
Most kids had pokemon or Disney, I had university students destroying each-others personal projects
+Charlie Platt bro.
i went to see robot wars in manchester a feww weeks ago
it aint childhood. its for life.
Set this up in the desert in Dubai. Have weight classes, with one class being unlimited. Allow any movement - flying, digging, walking etc. Allow guns, flamethrowers, rocket launchers. Have millions of dollars of prize money to cover R&D costs. Allow mech titans! Now you've got a show.
haha fucking Tesla v Boeing, now ur talking. Its the next UFC man, telling u.
Slight issue...
No arena can contain proper napalm (reaches temperatures that can melt steel and shatter ceramic), dual-tandem warheads, sabot rounds, etc.
What works in Battle Tech books doesn't work in real life.

Alberturkey54
Or just use high-altitude drones and switch between them for different camera angles.
Damn I remember watching this as a kid! So glad I found this part of youtube.
So what exactly was the chicken supposed to do. Peck the other robots?
Yeah i also dont get it xD
flip them ova , but the driving skills were... questionable at best
It had a ramp on one side to flip them
+Wasif Zaman and how did that work out for them?
David Saylor Good point XD
I always used to think that they should completely destroy the robots that loose. But over the last few years I've been involved in a number of robotics competitions (not fighting ones) and I know how devastating it is to see the robot you've worked on for months, maybe years get broken - even accidentally.
Razor really is an amazing robot, you couldn't really improve on it with in the rules. A simple, elegant and successful solution.
I love shows like that, educational and fun at the same time.
Wow, this is very different to the broadcast version. This shows how much editing and dubbing was done to it before the show is put on air.
I kind of wouldn't mind this coming back as live broadcast - a bit like WWE Raw. It would be like...3 hours long or something, but you'd really see what goes on.
Damn, best time in my childhood. I always loved razer
I used to fucking love this show as a kid
I'm going to have to watch more of these uncut matches. I actually found this more entertaining than the edited fights.
I feel bad for the Robochicken! :( His little pecking head didn't do any damage to the other :(((
TopPicks TV their fault
RAW Footage?! Freakin' awesome!!!
You know, I'd have definitely bought an 'extended cut' DVD of every series of Robot Wars. They cut an awful lot out of the fights, it's a shame :(
I love Razer's head. Who says machines can't fight in style?
Nice to see a puncture weapon that actually punctures. What a concept.
imagine this show today;o now that our technology has improved!
Sadly it wouldn't be the same if every bloke could just rip the model from a 3D printer again and again, the creativity and spirit of knowing someone built that with their bare hands would be gone. Which is what made it so fun..
TehPaws3D Maybe someone could make incentives for creative designs, or just ban such printable models altogether.
spongebot64 Yes you could, but you can't just ban stuff because it doesn't fit the rules, for instance, since the technology has advanced so far, where would you stop the bans? There is now brushless motors that can propel 1:5th scale rc vehicles to 50 mph within seconds, and 5th scale is about the size of say.. hypnodisc.

the kill at the end that robot is a straight savage
Until i was about 5 and this stopped airing and i always watched this with my brother and dad
That feeling when you want a barbecued chicken but you are a robot
It's weird to see a Robot Wars fight without the music and commentary. I always kind of assumed the studio got some kind of piped through music to pep the crowd up more instead of total silence. Huh.
Beautiful to watch and listen to compared to the regular show. If it was on TV like this maybe the show would still be going today.
Roasting the chicken over the fire was so amaze.
I love how the kids in the background are just casually yelling:Kill, kill, kill :P
It's better than the ones on CoD who fucked my mom last night.
is this also going on in america i built one but its still great to here its still going
I wonder if robot wars allows spinner robots? Cuz I don't ever recall seeing them in RW, I know they exist on battle bots though
Typhoon 2 - destructive, yet hard to control.
I miss this show so much
Hypno-Disc could be considered a spinner bot.
Schecter Wolf It will always remind me of Jamie Hyneman's "blendo", a full body spinner built out of a wok. Different show, I know, still a spinner
Am I the only person who remembers the first series with Jeremy Clarkson, with an entirely different format where they made them compete in obstacle courses and battles of tug-o-war? They still had the fighting but for some reason scrapped the rest of it.
I feel sorry for anyone who had to go up against Razor! He was just a monster!
They really should bring it back.
Huh, it does feel quite different without the music and commentary over it. Still interesting to see some raw footage :)
Robot Chicken couldn't do squat with that pneumatic flipper
Does anyone think how awesome it was that Velocirippa helped Robochicken get away from Razer?
+Banana Waffle! yeah, like something out of a movie. friend diving out of nowhere to save his buddy from the flames. he even dived THROUGH the flames to save the chicken, which just makes it more awesome
A channel called Dave still run the show, but it has been renamed to Robot Wars: Extreme, just have a look through the channel's shows and you'll find out when it is aired.
This is lke what, 10 years ago?
Imagine what kind of sick bots they can make now.
Bring back this show.
Velocirappa is like 'yeah fuck that u guys have fun now'
If Battle bots is the UFC of fighting robots, this is the WWE
I miss robot wars so much but I am seeing it live soon
watching Razer vs Robochicken and Velocirippa is kinda like watching the food chain
We all knew robot chicken never stood a chance to begin with.
Welcome back!!!!
+AwayDays You know? :)
where ?
+Kadir Cetin away
Jonathan Vasquez When where does it start
That fucking thing with the helmet at the end is awesome
Razor was one of the few bots that, can go up against the house robots What A Legacy 👏
1:43 - notice how razer made perfectly symmetrical cuts on both sides! Kind of like war paint.
We need this show back. Imagine, a super spider versus a mini dump truck with chainsaws!
Razor was always my fave when I was a kid. I remember that my patents would punish me when I was bad by not letting me watch razors fights during the show :( I cried.
Just recently saw this show on TV again. It was reruns but still!
What was Robochicken made out if, papermaché?
I know Velocirippa didn't win much, but would you say they were considered popular? (e.g. Team Plunderbird or Diotoir)
Its rather strange how in this video, with no music or JP commentary you can here the hydraulics of Razers weapon working.
And the sound of sir killalots engine
It's sort of fascinating to see a bit of this without the TV magic and editing, how noisy the whole place was under the music and crazy commentating from our Jonathan Pearce. I remember vividly watching these things as a kid, I had all the merchendise, still do in a cupboard somewhere. Oh the nostalgia, it hurts. And to learn they're still going as a live event... Bonkers.
I loved this show when i was only around 6-8 years old. just a little lad.
2:00 when you want to cook some grilled chicken on Saturday morning
This show was the best robot show there is!
Why was it cancelled thou?
What was the armor on these bots made of? Nowadays even robots like Quantum, which are ridiculously powerful, can’t puncture the robots nearly as easily as Razer can to these bots.
This was back when the weight limit was 80kg and armour was, up to the third wars, considered a waste of weight because nothing could really inflict much damage.
Then Hypno Disc arrived and thoroughly flipped the meta, but I guess not everyone got the memo.
That's surprising how robo chicken took a hard beating in the beginning
+2:00 looks like we are having some grilled robochicken for dinner tonight!
I used to watch this as a kid. Is this show still alive?
The only thing this lacks is a good color commentary team. It would have been cool to see a professional broadcaster type like Mauro Ranallo paired up with a former champion robot designer to discuss the mechanics of combat.
How was robo chicken supposed to fight back?
+Fabrezz The pecking head does damage, scratch damage, but damage.
I remember one-time a competitor had the balls to pick a fight with he house robot(iron maiden if I recall) and after the time limit the house bot stayed out for some extra time for a bit of vengeance;
Kicker is, if I recall, the competitor still managed to win that one.
When are they going to revive this show?
Hmmm... plated scorpion of death, backwards-running cartoon chicken or wacky velociraptor head? I wonder, who would win? As if I didn't know before watching the video lol.
Where can I go to see one?!?!? I would honestly pay to see one!!
While it's possibly too late to receive tickets for the new series up in Scotland, there are events going on around the world, with a few major groups doing it around the UK. Maybe google to see any events in the local area :D
spongebot64 thanks for the info!!
the only fighting sport with saw blades, flame throwers and chainsaws.
Why are there so many robots on the field?
is this stil on tv?
If yes, which channel ?
they were bout doing some roast job on that chiken...lol
I know this isn't really relevant to the battle, but does anyone know when sir killalot got the big weight increase from 280kg to about 500?
Idk didn't they only bump it up for the 2016 series?
+Rennie Ash Well I was asking because in the games he was about 280 but for some reason in the shows he was about 500 so either the people who made the games are retards, or he did get a weight increase somewhere
I heard something about they lied about his weight so people don't make robots designed to flip him or something.
+cleonumber1 ahh ok
So i just hear about this for the first time. The objective is to tip the other robot? or make it inoperable? either?
I was wondering why they decided to retire Razor? And what happened to all these robots after robot wars finally ended? It's kind of sad to me
RetroAdzz I don't know why Razer ever retired, though in its last fight (Tornado - European Champ. semis.) there was a discussion between Ian and his team mates whether they should hand over the judges' decision to their rivals. I suppose this caused the team to break up, which probably explains their absence in Series 7.

***** but no Razor :(
RetroAdzz Razor would have no change in the battlebots. Those spinning weapons are in now and they are strong as fuck, thats why warhead doesnt seem to be doing so well either.
Robot Wars is un-ending this year, so if we're lucky we might see Razer back.
Great news, guys - Razer is returning to Robot Wars for 24th July!
why was this show canceled
this was like watching terminator judgment day
never watched this show before but this is so beautiful *_*
why they cut the best shows ?
Can I put a mortar on a rc vehicle and join in this thing?
Bloody hell, I miss this show.
Are mighty mouse and vellocirippia built by the same team

Get ublock origin.
robochicken was clearly made for comedy and not much for power, the crusher was super thin, like trying to stab a refrigerator with a needle. Robochicken didn't stand a chance up against the hard pressure of razer's crusher.
Robot Wars in UK.
Battlebot in USA.
Robo-One in Japan. :-D
If o were to make one of these,it would look like the is7 from world war 2 ,have a bob gun for ranged attacks ,and have lots of armor, I'd call it ,"the shatter dome"
We could almost feel the suffering of the yellow bot :D
Can someone tell me the names of the house robots?
I know one is called Matilda!
Thanks a lot!
This show is part of my childhood, too!
Haha, So interesting!
+Jones Tung: Sir Killalot is the one who put velocirippa on the pit. Sargent is the military tank with flamethrower, Deadmetal is the one with saw disc, Shunt is the snowplow. Theres another 5 others robots in the others seasons.

why did this show get canceled
1:59 "WE'RE HAVIN' FRIED CHICKEN TONIGHT!!"
Cooking with Razer
1. Take a battlebot
2. Make some big holes
3. Fry on flamethrower for 10 sec.
4. Enjoy!
It's a shame that the series ended a long time ago. They could get popular again.
when robs will rise they would see how we use their ancestors in gladiator fights
why did they cancel the show?
This is harder to watch then some of the Bloodies UFC bouts.
Crushgear with remote controll ??
Still remember Razer taking on the house robots directly - even crushing the bulldozer's blade. Probably the most awesome of the robots to ever compete.
fuck awesome man...keep going .we all want new video fight
after the match razor being like: what about second breakfast?
c'est la meilleur video de tous ce que j'ai vu
Can you imagine if Razer had a flamethrower embedded in the tip of that claw, the sort of damage that could do? Seems to be able to pierce anything. Gets inside the robot, sprays some flame, fries the internals. Ouch.
+BDNeon Perhaps you should suggest that to the makers of Razer, it certainly sounds lethal.
Poor robochicken he didn't know what he was getting himself into
Im curious how Razor would fare in Battle Bots
Chances are not to good without some huge defensive improvements something like tombstone would probably make quick work of razor
It actually fought in some of the old events. Failed badly.
