    wow, good on you for catching that date window frame! It did seem like a glaring flaw; so mystery solved. Also you are so right about the bracelet. I bought my silver/white 38mm AT on the leather which is beautiful, but then I went ahead and ordered the bracelet, but after a few months I just wasn't happy and it's back on the leather. $720 out the window💸

    Well, I have a big wrist and love my second generation 41 mmgray dial. Have serviced it once and made sure the water resistance was intact. Worn on a gray sharkskin custom strap. Definitely a GADA watch for me. Good in the consultation room, at the symphony and out on the town. Often when heading to the Gulf Coast- it wears a gray rubber straps. And recently purchased an Uncle beads of rice and may be the way I wear it for while. And oh yes- paid $3400 for mine -used.

    Hi Andy, I have to agree with you on the Aqua Terra line. This line is arguably the most versatile that Omega currently produce, sporty yet can easily pass as a dress watch but has very good water resistance. I have the now long discontinued flat white dial GMT 231.90.43.22.04.001 with the asymmetrical titanium case and blue applied markers and is one of my favourites in the collection. It's not too showy but has an understated elegance that I find appealing. It's at a glance readable too. The 89 series calibre although not METAS certified in my watch looks fantastic and is very accurate over the years. It's good that Omega appear to have halted mass production of the new for 2022 models if they do not meet manufacturer quality or customer requirements and I have to take my hat off to them to make sure the watch is 'right' unlike other manufacturers of products not just watches sometimes do. I'm still pondering another AT at some point in the future but for now I'll wait and see. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Andy my first high end watch was an omega black dial first edition Aqua Terra. Year 2003. It had an open back and was the automatic version. It cost around £1500. I did buy it on e bay and it came with the bright red rubber material looking box. Unfortunately it was not a good time keeper, losing time. My friend had the same version in blue and his gained time. He did have it serviced got a small bag back with looked like half the Watch back. And he found it to be losing time after that. Now it’s been replaced with a Date just 41 black dial with jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel. And a op 41 green dial. My friend still owes the blue Aqua Terra😀. I’m sure the new models are probably a lot more accurate.

    • @ilmostro16
      @ilmostro16 Рік тому +4

      I agree, complaining about manual wind is silly. There are benefits to manual wind such as a thinner watch, less complexity to maintain, and a somewhat more personal connection to the mechanical watch because you have to consciously give it life every day or every other day and enjoy that click. But not having an on the fly adjustment has no benefit and is unacceptable on any watch over $1000 in 2023. Why not have a comfortable fit when your wrist swells after eating too much at the Brazilian steakhouse?

    Hello from the US and I discovered your channel recently. I have a Globemaster with the same 8900 movement. One bugaboo: The date wheel starts moving slowly towards midnight instead of snapping into place. For example, when its 1145pm on May 14 the date window appears to be 4. Then at almost or slightly after midnight the date pops into place. Come to learn this is inherent to this movement. I think after all these years, Omega would have tweaked the movement.

    I have the Aqua terra 41 silver (more like white), which is great but... it does feel a bit big. Without a bezel that 41mm leaves a lot of space for a large flat shiny dial and it does stand out. Perhaps a darker color would make the size less obvious? Its also quite thick. 40mm or 39mm would be perhaps better perhaps.
    Its currently on the rubber strap, which is awsome and fun, but I am looking for other options to dress it up and down = make it less flashy.

Mistake I made was I would compare it to my dj 41 mm although they probably serve similar purposes they are also very different I’m wrist the AT feels heavier chunkier and stance on the wrist it just feels more tool like . Took me a while to find the right strap which pulled the weight and heft down now love it .. I think I got it for £ 4600 from the AD 18 months ago with a discount it’s now £6300 . Is it me or does it seem that every time we blink luxury Swiss watch brands are hiking up their prices . I admit that I 'flirted' with the Omega Aqua Terra. Many years ago (too long a story to tell) I wore an Aqua Terra grey dial for 48 hours. Firstly, the ridges on the dial were the other way around, and they worked better that way. I don't like the modern-day dial. It was a 'nice' watch. Just nice. No more than nice. Not 'wow' or overwhelming. It was so highly polished and 'shiny' that I was so scared of scratching it. Really, it was a 'scratch bucket'. I wore it carefully for 48 hours and it already had marks. I wonder what it would look like after a year! I hate to think. I liked the watch at the time but after time I think I can do MUCH better for my money. The Omega Aqua Terra is a nice average watch, but no more.

    The aqua terra like most of omega watches is a bit too thick for the case diameter. Another flaw is the polished non- tapering bracelet. I find myself as much as I like their dials, I can’t justify the prices being comparable to Rolex prices. I have the same issue with the thickness and the bracelets of Grand Seiko. Two brands with lots of heritage and quality, yet missing a few touches that can make them comparable or even better than Rolex. I still couldn’t resist the aqua terra which is my favourite omega and bought the 41 mm in baby blue dial, but had it on a matching rubber strap. I don’t give it as much time as I give to my Rolex DJ 41 mm blue dial, or my Tudor BB 39 mm blue dial.

    I love the AT but what I've never understood is that it's more expensive than the smp300. I went to buy an AT 2 years ago but ended up getting a smp300. And now I have that and an explorer...

      Nice pair 😁. The biggest gripe is the 38mm being more expensive than the smp300 with the same movement. At least the 41mm has the better 8900.

    Kudos to Omega for fixing the date window. On the other hand, they shouldn't release the watch to the press when the design is not finalized. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my 38mm teak dial AT8800.

    I’ve been wanting an AT41 for many years.
    However each time I’d get serious about buying one, something was holding me back.
    It felt like it was too hefty for the weight of the bracelet and looked as if the machinist hadn’t finished milling the case. Like there’s just too much material for no reason.
    I have two Rolex DJ. A 36 and 41. They do feel more refined. As much as I love Omega, it actually pains me to say that lol.

      If like the color way, the good planer version comes in grade 5 titanium, making it super light and comfy.
      However, the standard 3 hander is only available in 38.5mm. The GMT version on the other hand, is 43, but it’s compact case/short lugs wear like a 41~42mm watch.

    Hey Andy, Hope you're back to 100%. I cant help but disagree with you on Omega bracelets. The Iconic flat-link 1039 and the improved 1171 were absolutely gorgeous. The 1450 was another stunner before they s**t the bed with the 5 link 1498's and their successors. ( the 1479 being the original and the one exception. It's pure silk) My only issue with the current fiat links is the lack of taper. Something ROLEX perfected and will never have to change.

    • @TheEnglishWatch
      @TheEnglishWatch  Рік тому

      I bow to your knowledge on the bracelet scene, but 100% agree on the taper. The Ultra Deep bracelet and clasp is a step change from the PO. Let’s hope Omega refine as necessary the AT bracelet. Don’t get me started on my 1861 Speedy bracelet 😡.

    Why isn't the aquaterra priced significantly lower than the seamaster? The seamaster seems underpriced. I prefer a more understated watch so the seamaster doesn't appeal to me. The aquaterra has too many polished surfaces to me taste and it's a bit thicker than I prefer. However, I do almost talk myself into both watches every so often.

    • @TheEnglishWatch
      @TheEnglishWatch  Рік тому +1

      The 300 also has the low spec movement as the 38mm AT. That’s why the 41 is better value if you have wrist.
      Otherwise, maybe they don’t want to turn off their main revenue stream by pushing punters to Tudor.

    The AT is not bad. I don't like their sizings. Just make a damn 39mm or 40mm version. I don't know why brands go 38mm, leapfrog the sweet spots of 39mm and 40mm (my sweet spots), then go 41mm, 42mm etc. It's like they think people have either small wrists, or big wrists, and nothing in between. Compare it to Rolex Explorer 1.... 39mm (older) 40mm (new release) - right in the goldilocks zone. Any watch without a rotating bezel looks best in 39mm to 40mm in my view. I also don't like the AT's overly-thick body, flimsy bracelet and butterfly clasp. The AT could be a truely great icon - Omega just need to a better execution.

  • @mrt2760
    @mrt2760 Рік тому

    I tried all of the coloured AT’s on a few months back before they added the date frame, thought they looked great but it’s a mistake to prove them alongside a Datejust, Yes I know they’ll be more readily available but as you said the residuals will not match up to Rolex, which will put many people off, including me. If they’d came in at a more realistic price point, say 4-5k tops then I’d be in.

      yup, especially when you can get a 41MM Rolex DJ non fluted for $8K. Just seems worth it to spring up an extra 3K for a Rolex. I also think Rolex sunburst dials are better than these aquaterra colored dials.

    Profoundly disagree on the Aqua Terra - the 41mm models at circa £5800 are crazy money for what you’re actually getting - more expensive than the Seamaster diver and not far off a Speedy these days. Nuts

    • @KeepingWatchUK
      @KeepingWatchUK Рік тому +5

      I think it’s just everything combined. The initial interaction / perception of the brand is impacted negatively imho by a poor website, too much affiliation with Bond & Clooney etc, plus Omega simply sell too many of every model. As example, see what lists under ‘Seamaster’. I enjoy my Speedy no matter, and no doubt would their other models as you hint at, despite this, but I just think they could improve/fine tune in so many areas. Just my opinion.

    • @theenavybluemonster
      @theenavybluemonster Рік тому +2

      Always interesting to me to find out what affects other’s opinions.
      All I care about is the watch itself. Design/looks, fit on wrist, build quality, and then a movement that’s fairly reliable.
      I hardly ever go to their website or any watches’ websites really.
      I don’t care about presentation boxes either. Smaller the better these days. They just get stacked with the others.

    I mean, for one, you could pick up a Moon watch with the same budget, which for my money, is a far more attractive proposition.
    But honestly, if I had 5000 quid, I'd be looking to save a bit more while sitting in a wait list for the new 40mm Rolex Explorer.
    That's an heirloom watch by comparison.
