  • He is out winter night fishing on the Southern beaches again, this time the weather is favourable but the tides are not...you just cannot seem to win when it comes to getting all the conditions to line up together. But armed with Ragworm and Squid strip hookbaits our man is adamant he will enjoy the trip especially with the chance of a cookup....And this one is a bit different as he attempts a Sausage & Egg bap using a frying pan and cooking over the flames of something called a Swedish Fire Torch, home-made from a piece of Silver Birch from his own garden...not only great for cooking and light but you can keep warm with them on a cold winters night....Another salty film from the Totally Awesome Fishing Show camera lens...Enjoy..

      No,I don't know if I ever fished Worthing. My main winter spot for Cod (don't laugh !) was Sandgate Castle and of course Dungeness and Langney Point. No monsters,I think 9lb 5oz was the biggest I had...Good times,but alas a thing of the past I reckon.

    Easy way to control heat in a Swedish stove like that is a small plastic drinks bottle with a small hole drilled into the screw on cap. Fill it with sea water (save carrying the weight) and when it’s too hot simply squirt some water in the side slots. Works magic

    Sorry to bust ya bubble Graham but sea levels aren't rising and there's no such thing as global warming/climate change it's just Weather 😊
    Still love the video's 👍
    On the missing fish ,put that down to quoter and size limits,at one time if you caught fish trawling you didn't have bye catch and sold all your fish,now a fast amount is thrown back dead because it's above the limit and or not the fish you targeted so you lose and so does the fish stocks EU has a lot to answer for,or fleet's had a better grip on things😢

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  8 місяців тому

      I agree the quotas whereby fish are just dumped dead overboard does not make a lot of sense. I get they are trying to conserve certain fish stocks but surely better ways than just shovelling food back over the side ?..maybe different net or fishing gear regulations ?...Its certainly a minefield of opinions. Who know what the right way is ??.

    Just checked. There has been a zero level trend in sea level rise in the UK from 1900 to 2000. Data from the National Tidal and Sea level Facility. The lack of fish is probably due to the dredging, changing the ecology of the sea bed.
    About the National Tidal and Sea Level Facility
    The National Tidal and Sea Level Facility (NTSLF) is the UK centre of excellence for sea level monitoring, coastal flood forecasting and the analysis of sea level extremes. It is the focus for sea level research in the UK and for its interpretation into advice for policy makers, planners and coastal engineers.

    When youre making a firelighter for your fire logs, some plane shavings (or wood shavings from a knife) twisted together and dipped in wax makes a great firestarter you can leave in there because the wax holds the shavings to the log.

    Hi Graeme. Sea fishing this year. Little data point for you.
    I live up in Norwich. Fishing the coast up here has traditionally been a winter activity for me so for Mackerel I head down to chesil and camp in the warmer months.
    But this year no mackerel for me at chesil. But a rumour that Weybourne, Norfolk had mackerel. Well after a blank at chesil I went there, just a short drive.
    It was insane. 4 a chuck. Caught a bucket of fish in 30mins.
    Weird year. Nothing at chesil. Loads up in the north sea instead...

    The dredging kills everything. The dumping area in whitsand bay was used for the dredged silt from Devonport. Fortunately HMS Scilla was sunk as a dive reef nearby previously and the uproar from the divers that brought evidence of the smothered and buried sea life was enough to get it stopped.
    On a happier note as a commercial fisherman we would fish nearby when they were dumping and would load off with the fish evacuating the area.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  8 місяців тому +2

      I think all the dredging going on can't be good. I saw recently that a lot of silting or "sedimentation" disturbance is releasing lots of pollutants that have remained trapped for decades. Maybe its not just the silt re-settling over all the sea bed ecology that is killing off the eco system,but the actual pollutants being released causing breeding losses..I reckon a lot has yet to be researched on dredging...and of course it may all be conveniently hushed up ??...I can only speak as someone who beach fished 60 years ago,and its gone downhill so fast its ridiculous.

    That swedish fire tourch, how did you make it
    Tight lines mate and thank you

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  8 місяців тому +1

      I expect there is something online about how to make the Swedish fire torch. Basically just put about 6 spaced cuts down from the top but not right through.Or if you do cut right through you can use a wire hoop to hold the sections together. But the secret is to either drill a bit out of the top centre as it burns from the top down,or open it up and slot a small piece of wood in to keep it open and wire it up. As for marks I usually don't have much time left to fish after work so I go the closest piece of sea which is Hayling Island. But it used to be free parking in the winter,now its all parking tickets so I drive further away so I don't give the Council a single penny for something that used to be free. Its just convenient fishing for me, not particularly great fishing but in the winter and once dark you often get a good bit of beach to yourself. In summer its rammed with holidaymakers so I only do the winter.

      Well done sir I also think the council are nicking from people who perhaps don't have a lot ,I also would drive to a remote spot so that I don't have to pay to park .

      @@TAFishing tut God we all know hayling isn't the best spot especially this time of year lol I honestly thought that was East beach selsey had some nice bass a couple of thornbacks one small smoothie but this time of year it's the odd bass and loads of whiting or dogfish.

      I was shown a picture of a nice Shore Conger a guy had there by the tackle dealer,but for me I have never done much good on the East Beach. Maybe I need to fish all night. Good for Undulates at night in the spring and summer though.

      @@TAFishing if tou go up by the bungalows it's really good there but it's best to do 3 hours before high tide and two after found it most active around then most people make the mistake of going off of the wall. either that or there is the church mark I go to I've even had something break the gears in my reel and snap a 80 pound test shock leader my rod was bent in two it was witnessed by 3 other people and they could see I was fighting it I had at one point the butt of the rod pushed up against my heel because it was a struggle to hold but alas I didnt get to see what it was when I heard that ping and it went with no weight I could of cried and my reel has never been the same and that rod went in the bin because we look at it and could see cracks all the way up the tip of the rod but I'm heading there may this year and hoping I get a second shot at whatever it was all I can say is it was big heavy and very strong.

    What is your shelter called? The wind on the Arkansas river knocks flat everything I try! Oooooo Oklahoma where the wind… it really does. In Tulsa we’ve let the sand in the river erode. Thin sand over bedrock so stakes don’t work well. Tying off to chest sized rocks doesn’t work…
