Yep - Incredible lamps that still hold their own today. My dad would buy parts at car boot sales and put together tilly lamps in his shed. He had dozens at one point! I must admit, though, I went LED a few years back. I bought a Fenix CL30R, an incredible light for camping/fishing. Completely waterproof, it floats, it can charge your phone, has a tripod mount. On a mid-setting, I can do four or five 10 hour fishing trips with a single charge, with power left to spare. Technology has come a long way!
Great session - old school. We used to do that when I was a kid. Same lamps, even, along with the fire. Thanks so much fellows and cheers David Hutton South Carolina
You guys make me feel like such a wimp because I didn't go out fishing when it was 40 deg. It's really a lot of fun watching you, thanks so much for doing what y'all do.
awesome as always but loved this night camping fishing cooking session most of all, you guy are the most cool father and son. mike is lucky to have you as father. i love fishing but i am the only one in the family with this hobby. keep up the great work TAF...
Still got one of those Anchor lamps as well. I can also remember 30 years ago seeing anything up to 40 lamps stretching along the Gorleston - Hopton beaches.
Wow what an awesome Christmas treat, i enjoyed every bit of it. Great to see you on the beach. Thank you for all the viewing pleasure through the year. Here's wishing you and yours every happiness this Christmas and through the coming year.
Man alive wish Graham was my dad Mike is such a lucky guy. I was lucky enough to catch a 12 pound carp on Wednesday even tho it was 3 degrees with a wind chill of -1 degree.
Great video Graeme. Anchor lamps are excellent. I had one for years before it rusted away! Could light up the whole beach. I used the thick foil from Pies to baffle the light on one side. It would stop people seeing where I was fishing.... Tight lines
nostalgia indeed ! tilly lamps ! listen I can totaly relate to that" line of Tillies on the beach".The North end of Hornsea in the late seventies was great for cod! and from"" Hull fare " week in Oktober the Cod fishing was in full swing !!! great vids you two keep em coming !!!
Thanks guys, fantastic video again, always brilliant to watch. Made up some of your short snood blood loop rigs last week Graeme, and they work a treat, pouting and whiting so far.
Guys, I love your videos. It adds the real social element, no effects to what fishing really is. Would love to have a beer with you both or get on a carping session at a yateley water with you as thats where i target the big, oldskol carp. Please get in touch if you want me to get you on the guest ticket to target one of the big, yateley carp!
Lovely old kerosene lantern. I've fished many a night under the glow of a Coleman lantern. :-) Thanks for bringing this fishing fun outing! Merry Christmas Mike and Graeme.
Hi Guys, Wishing you both a very Happy Christmas. Its been an incredible year of TA Fishing Videos. Thank you both so much for all your hard work. Its been fantastic, knowledge mixed with humour makes it all fun. Here's to 2017. Cheers, Steve in Fife.
My dad eventuatly agreed to take me as a 10 year old to Dungeness for a night session. We fished the point with tar bonfires an the Tilly lamps we're all down the beach. Cod to 15lb, happy days. 45 years ago!!!
I haven't seen anyone talk about gas and vapour so I will be the know it all and tell you ;) Matter can be in 4 states solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Vapour is a substance in the gas state which by increasing pressure turns into a liquid.
Damn straight! I remember here in Ontario, Canada fishing in -22 degrees in an ice hut jigging and catching! Good on your lads you can't catch sitting on your arse infront of the fire! Tight lines!
had one of those lamps as a kid,we used to roast sprats on the top and then lay them out on my night fishing buddies face"s when they were in their sleeping bags,
in canada you have whats known as a "dry" cold. in england we have moist, cold wind that creates a high chill factor. you would struggle in the winter here. its bone chillingly cold
it doesn't work like that, in canada you have whats known as a "dry" cold. in england we have moist, cold wind that creates a high chill factor. you would struggle in the winter here. its bone chillingly cold
great video lads, what a strange creature that sucker thing with teeth!! Like an alien. We'll done on the whiting! Hope to see you catch cod from the shore soon 👍
I love watching you guys you really crack me up plus I learn a lot I'm from the north east of United States minus 5 or 5 above no matter where your from it's frighten cold on the beach fishing! Good for you a couple of hard core fishermen I have my respect especially if your not used to those ! Keep the videos coming. Could you show so more fly fishing for trout?
still use my tilly. They are so comforting quietly hissing away on a dark cold winters night. Surprised I never saw a homemade pan gizmo to fit over the top of the tilly. Hey guys cant you do smelly vision as well when your cooking up
Regarding the fire/burner or heater. why not design a Little bigger one dismantle one so you can put rocks inside the burner at the bottom off it, so the heat will stay longer and keep you warmer. the burner should be coming with a small axe atached to it so you can chop up some driftwood.
I've got the best place for you to go fishing, easy, good catching as well. Going there tomorrow night when the tides are right. Totally worth going there.
I had the same with the line getting caught under pebbles. was so busy with my other rod and my dads, i forgot about the smaller one. the line got buried under the pebbles and i couldnt get any line, trace or weight back. it was so deep i had to cut the line.
you guys are awesome fisherman, you have all the tricks and you don't mind to show it to everyone and what's better than your fishing is the relationship of the Father and Son, I've lost my father when I was 3 years old, and now I have a four-year-old son and I'm looking forward to create such a relationship with him. wish you best of luck and I look forward one day to meet you guys and go out fishing with you. you guys are so much fun🚢🚢🚢🚢😉
Great show. Classic TAFishing.
I grew up fishing with those pressure lamps. They work very well, once you get them lit.
Yep - Incredible lamps that still hold their own today. My dad would buy parts at car boot sales and put together tilly lamps in his shed. He had dozens at one point!

Any tips for neatly feeding line and also avoiding dipping the line into snags while walking a rod back up the beach?
Whiteing are my favourite earing fish.

Had a anchor lamp exactly the the same , they were superb , the amount of mantles just used to crumble in ya hands if you accidentally touched it 😥😥
As always.....great video lads.
When's the next fly fishing vid planned?
Vapors are tiny particles floating/drifting/suspending in the air (which is a mixture of gases)
Good lads.....
merry Christmas ann happy new year.Lithuania
In the States we call it a Coleman lamp and it burns white gas
you can also cook on them
Last winter i ice fished in -23 degrees without tent or any shelter. Just have to put enough clothes on :)
-5 is cold. I once had to foot a ladder for half an hour at -6 and after had trouble walking.
