    Great catch lads! Just found this channel, you have another subscriber from the U.K. Just a question though, if you’re using the girth x girth x length calculation for an estimated weight, aren’t you supposed to measure from the fork of the tail to the nose, not the tip of the tail? Or is it different in Australia?

    Awesome. Have you ever hooked a white shark? I did and i laughed at me, them came to the wharf and chomped on the wood piles. I had to cut the line, 'cos I couldn't move it with 80lb braid on a surfcaster and stella 30000 and it was getting dark after 8 hours. It just went up and down the harbour and I hardly moved it. What I normally catch Bronze Whalers on, just wasn't grunty enough. I just ordered an Alutecnos 80w 2-speed with 130lb braid and mono topshot, paired to a 60kg stand-up roller tip rod. I hope to run into that white again, and see if I can win this time. He owns the harbour me. We don't usually get whites as far north as Auckland (usually around Stewart Island- biggest in the world down there) and I don't target them. There's just this one, and there's a warning sign out now at the wharf, 'cos kids jump of it in summer. Have you ever accidentally hooked a white shark? is it illegal to catch them in Aussie? Not that you really know what you have hooked until after the hooks in. Ta, Dave

      We just lost a young lad to shark attack not far from here in March so I’m no dummy when it comes to the ocean
      I’m well educated on sharks in brackish and fresh also I have caught them in the rivers here I’m also well aware of the croc population so thanks for your lecture but I’m pretty sure I don’t need it 😁

    Newbie problem fix: Use big Tuna circle hooks, 14/0 - 16/0 and always reel in your slack = almost guaranteed hook-up. Personally, I'd opt for an Assassin Blade HMG or Rob Gavin's Heavy Shark Xtreme rod at close to 14ft long. Much better pulling power for a big fish. Lovely fish lads, keep it up!

    • @sharkyshepo8167
      @sharkyshepo8167  4 роки тому +2

      We use 20/0 circle we have the best hook on the market, wen shark playing with bait never reel slack in, let him eat, if u watch the underwater footage the hook is right in corner of mouth, perfect hook up

    • @thepatriotsrage661
      @thepatriotsrage661 4 роки тому +1

      @@sharkyshepo8167 In order to get a circle to set properly, you need tension on your line. Agreed, you don't want to spook the shark from taking the bait but too much slack will result in a lost fish. That's how we do it here in South Africa.

    How do you know the fish didn't keep picking it up and dropping it? I mean, maybe you could have hooked it on the first big run. How would you know the difference?

    • @sharkyshepo8167
      @sharkyshepo8167  Рік тому +1

      Just been doing it a long time, also if u go for the hook up early u have a 50/50 chance, if u wait it's nearly 100%
      But 90% of sharks don't take long, i think cause this tiger was so big it iT was happy to take it's time, smaller sharks want to pick up bait and sprint off

    Nice tigers, big W 80 reels and 150 lb line can bring it in quickly. If they were using 60 lb line and 30 W reel it would had taken 3 hours then the shark would be exhausted and die. Good work, I guess those tigers will live.
