Out of the blue, the anime getting huge interesting. Probably youre right about the kings ghost.
i find it really fun how kabru's initial recount of his backstory shifts slightly depending on who he's talking to. with toshiro/namari/kiki and kaka, he doesn't mention the elf casualties at all, but focuses on the inequality of info caused by the elves' presence. when he's taking to the canaries, suddenly it's all about saving elf lives too. i really like how he's able to spin his own trauma (which is still affecting him!) into whatever he needs to make what he thinks is right, happen. bro is brilliant 💯💯
There are a lot of bonus chapters about Kabru and his mom. I kinda always assumed that he's so cold hearted because of his elven upbringing, turns out his adoptive mom is kinda normal, if a bit introverted, our guy is just like that. Also, there is a very cute bonus chapter where little Kabru used his puppy eyes to force his mom to attend a family reunion. While he was busy having fun, socialising with his cousin and being pampered by his elven grandma, his mom was surrounded by her relatives that were asking her, when she's planning to get married, it's about time, finding someone when you already have a kid will be hard, yada yada, etc
(no spoiler) I wouldn’t call it a normal upbringing though, his elf mom is revealed to be famously treating her adopted short-lived kids as pets, she loves them, but you can tell she doesn’t see them as equals, this more or less affected Kabru's view on races, how he is angry with elves and dwarves treating other races as infants, and also one of the reasons why he’s so eager to protect Laios to finish his journey, since it’s the only one chance tall men can gain a spot in the world.
His mother is also the best fighter in Canaries, but despises her swordsmanship, Her cold personality makes it hard for her to fit in society, this is also the direct reason why she is obsessed with having pets and manipulating dolls to play pretend. His coldheartedness is really likely learned, do you remember the one panel in the extra, when his mom’s companions were in danger of losing control to the monsters? She’s the first one to suggest finishing them on the spot.
Btw I love Milsiril, and she does have a kind heart, it’s just that her military upbringing made her execution of enemies rather ruthless.
Well, Milsiril also have that elf/longlived race misconception about shortlived race age, she subconsciously think all her adopted children as toddler (even when she knows it)
Also, about "pet" part, remember who the elf that said it? Kinda bias
@@hafirenggayudashe doesn’t view them as… well, beast, but considering Kabru was in a semi silent agreement state when Otta said that, he probably isn’t going to defend her from the accusations. Also, there’s a page in Daydream Hour dedicated to how she was basically sniffing and rubbing him like a pet dog😭
@@Huhu0137 considering how she dislike her fellow elves and prefer dolls, I kinda think her adoration to tallman/ human is normal behavior (for her). DM have lots character with social issues huh?

She does love Kabru and Rin, maybe not in the best way, but she does care.

8:50 Earlier in this same episode, Daya (Kabru’s party’s dwarf with the pigtails hair) was also out of it after the escape painting, but it was much more of a background event than the other two examples.
9:44 I mean… he’s also the _only_ person remotely interested in being able to interact with monsters in a domesticated environment.

QoD: already know, so can’t say. Though I can see a continuity where ‘this’ was an elaborate ruse to trick them into either taking up residence in the Golden Lands, or into seeing the lunatic magician as more of a jailor holding people hostage when, as noted, he’s not truly of sound mind.

bit of lore! they're called Canaries after the canary in a coal mine. the elven kingdom uses their deaths to determine whether or not the dungeon is sufficiently dangerous
They're called that by the public as a mockery iirc. The actual name is different, and even the bird on the ship isn't supposed to be a canary
the place isnt in a different time or in a different dimension, it is the village outside the castle town that is around the golden castle, which is the 5th floor of the dungeon. The appearance of blue sky instead of rocky cavern above is what thrown most people off, but it has a simple explaination that will be reveal later in the series

All the Western Elves designs are pretty amazing, but that drow looking girl is kinda... I'm just saying maybe the elves showing up wouldn't be such a bad thing...

She's just got darker skin, drow don't exist in this world, and they've called Marcille a Dark Elf just for using ancient magic.
The internet has certainly been as down bad for her as I expected.
