    He's just got that dawg (autism) in him, I didn't even realise there were people that thought he was dumb :(
    He has trouble socially, his morale compass doesn't quite line up with other people's, his brain doesn't really work the same, and all around is an autistic icon. Literally anyone who thinks he's dumb thinks I'm dumb because I'm just irl Laios (I got that dawg in me)

      I mean, let’s be real here. Most ppl assume autistic and/or ADHD ppl are dumb. Half the time the way they determine if someone is high functioning is on how well they can mask their symptoms.

    • @Exquailibur
      @Exquailibur 5 місяців тому +4

      Yeah I got the dawg in me too, I wig the hell outta people because they cant seem to decide if I am an idiot or not. I am a case of a very high functioning person who doesnt mask very well so people think that I am some sort of weird eccentric doofus and i cant say they are entirely wrong because I can certainly be a weird eccentric doofus.
      I have a very strong hyper fixation on bugs in particular so I can really Identify with Laios because I am incredibly interested and knowledgeable on something most people find disturbing, I mean most people dont realize there are 10,000+ species of roaches and only a small handful are even capable of living in a house. I also know that roaches are highly social animals and that many are very colorful or display incredible patterns, one even smells like garlic bread. I also own 10 tarantulas and a lot of other bugs and will pick up random spiders because I know what most spiders I see are, if they are dangerous, and how to handle them if they are so entirely lack fear of them.
      I am sorta like one of those Florida men or whimsical redneck Australians in a sense, also I am more scared of cows then black widows because I have seen a cow fold a guy like a lawn chair and owned black widows. Turns out widows only bite when crushed or restrained and the bites are far less dangerous then they are made out to be, handling them safely is more then possible while a cow can run through an electric fence and turn a man into red paste on contact if agitated enough.

    Laios is a very skilled fighter and adventurer, and he is a dedicated monster freak with an encyclopedic knowledge on most of them. He is not restrained by social standards, stemming from his dislike of human interaction, which is because of his difficulty engaging in it. So, he does what he thinks will work, often succeeding greatly. Still, he is not afraid to improvise if plan A fails, nor does he stubbornly stick to his plan. He is refreshingly open to alternative ideas from his friends, and when those ideas seem cultivatable he will wholeheartedly switch gears for the better of the group, never looking back or feeling too annoyed. He is knowledgeable, but he is humble, and he is strong, but he is always open to ask for and receive help. Just all around great guy, really :D

    I always thought of Laios as smart/dumb in the same way engineering majors are stereotyped as smart/dumb: extraordinary amounts of knowledge and intelligence but then they pair it with the strangest and most unlikely applications. The only reason they're called "the dumbest smart people" is because they're having fun with what they know

  • @hannabelphaege3774

    The shapeshifter chapter is great. Your first instinct is that Laios will be hopeless at social deduction but not only does he do an excellent job of it, he's doing it while he figures out what a doppelganger really and how to fight it in the back of his head. He does then get carried away and almost fuck everything up but it is a comedy.
    I wrote a whole thing getting my thoughts in order that I won't copy in full but: Laios loves monsters the way he wants the world to love him, without judgement, with curiosity and respect instead of fear. He wants to be complex in the ways that interest him and simple in the ways that don't.

    As someone with autism I have never identified so much with a character in story writing. I love how the mangaka explores that, pros and cons, and uses it to create a genuine and well-rounded character that feels so much like a Person. The fact that some people think Laios is dumb only adds to the quality of the writing and authenticity of his character, in my opinion. People with autism do not run on the same wavelength as allistics and we do not have the same priorities, but that doesn't make us stupid. Characters that are written to be autistic are usually boiled down to a single character trait in media so to find such a well-thought-out portrayal was something I actually treasure very closely.
    The mimic episode was also my favorite- The author actually revealed which mimic came from which person's memory, and it turned out that all of the ones that were most accurate in personality with a few visual messups were all Laios- Which I take to mean that, compared to the other three's opinions of him, he actually understands who they are very well. The parts he got wrong were all small visual things, like marcille's hair, senshi's helmet, or chilchuck's scarf. He pays far more attention to who they are as people, and didn't pay so much attention about the less important things.
    ...So then, when you look at the Laios mimicks........ yeah ouch. That hurt.
    Anyways! Great video!! 👌👌

    Laios is just me if fantasy, I have a hyper fixation on bugs and own 10 tarantulas. If there were monsters i would literally be a dungeon delver just to check them out and learn how they behave, monster ecology would be a cool study.

    I have only one point that I'm not clapping in approval. I was NOT the resurrection magic that turned Fallen into a chimera it was the mad mage who did that because well... he seemed incapable of seeing Fallen as a human and not the dead dragon. It honestly seems like the mad mage is either not all there or is permanently lost inside his own head/memories and becomes violet at anything or anyone that disrupts his perception of reality.

    Laios is what I call an "accidental genius". Sometimes this is an actual dumb character like Patrick Star saying or doing something smart to only forget or not realize it soon after. Other times it's this, a character who is smart, but they and the rest of the characters dismiss their intelligences for one reason or another.

      I feel like Laios’s bad decisions are no worse than any of the other party members? Chilchuck not telling anyone before going near the mimic, Marcille pouring boiling water into a lake in a dungeon, Senshi with Anne the kelpie, and plenty of other examples.
      Every member of the party makes some less-than-smart decisions sometimes because of their different personalities, that’s just realistic. Laios is no different and shouldn’t be singled out. :)

    • @ma.2089
      @ma.2089 5 місяців тому +9

      Yeah but that monster also opened the door for them and also helped them get out of scenarios that could have killed them (tentacles and treasure bugs).
      It’s not a lack of intelligence, it’s the fact he trusted the sword when he shouldn’t have. A similar thing to what Senshi did with Anne 2.0
      Everyone makes foolish decisions. That doesn’t make him not smart. Any decision the other party members made could’ve killed ppl. That’s the point of the dungeon, it’s dangerous cuz even a small slip up gets ppl killed.

      I sat down for about a day after finishing the manga because (keeping spoilers minimal) Laios' actual plan is a complete failure, and because of the same wishful thinking that fucked them over with the sword and the doppleganger. He saves the day because he's earnest and pure of heart in a very weird way and he stumbles into a solution nobody else could have found.
