Muzak is an American brand of background music played in retail stores and other public establishments. The name has been in use since 1934, and has been owned by a division or subsidiary of another company ever since. In 1981, Westinghouse bought the company and ran it until selling it to the Fields Company of Chicago, publishers of the Chicago Sun-Times, on September 8, 1986. Formerly owned by Muzak Holdings, the brand was purchased in 2011 by Mood Media in a deal worth US$345 million. Muzak was based in various Seattle, Washington locations from 1986 to 1999, after which it moved its headquarters to South Carolina in 2000.
The word Muzak has been a registered trademark since December 21, 1954, of Muzak LLC, although it dominated the market for so many years that the term is often used (especially when used with lowercase spelling) as a generic term for all background music. The term Muzak is - at least in the United States - often used for most forms of background music, regardless of its source. It may also be referred to as "elevator music" or "lift music". Though Muzak Holdings was for many years the best-known supplier of background music, and is commonly associated with elevator music, the company itself did not supply music to elevators. Since 1997, Muzak has used original artists for its music, except on its Environmental channel.

All the politicians have ruined this beautiful life and turned everything into a modern garbage dump !!!
It was always a little terrible. But its getting terrifyingly awful.
@@RetroChugThe unthinkable chaos of modern madness
Sadly *Everything* the *Packed Faced Left* touch turns to sh*t
@vittorionapuletano1073 I think it's part to blame with our unprecedented access to information worldwide at all times. All the violence our world is constantly seen at all times. Everything bad is in our tvs, our phones, our newpapers, all the time. Bad news on newspaper isn't new, but ability to know what is going on everywhere all the time has only been getting stronger and stronger. Folks start being exposed to it at younger and younger ages.
Your so right.I miss my free 📺.I’m surprised you can still listen to the radio without paying in someways.politicians don’t live normal life as we do.Don’t get me started lol they live in a bubble.
This is a gentle reminder of a time when we were still free and society hadn't gone completely bat-sh*t crazy.
Before Democrats got everyone to hate one another and before they brainwashed younger generations to hate their country.
In the 70's Mom and Dad worked late shifts; my brother and I were kids. They put this music on to keep me company until they returned from work. Now at 54 I must admit I've never tired of listening to it. Thanks for posting and new sub!
never had a family life but this kind of music makes me feel like I did😂
I put this on in the background. It’s better than antidepressants, it’s instant good mood :)
Hi from Ukraine
Greetings to you from Kentucky U.S.A. have a wonderful day 🎉🎉.
Back when Mom, Dad, and the kids ate meals together. Mom cooked and did the shopping. There were weekend drives, and the holidays were magical. Now, only the wealthy and privileged get to enjoy the "American Dream".
The American Dream was only meant for a few anyway, it was never meant or designed for everyone. So in that sense, nothing has changed but our realization of it.
We made our children eat with us. They would say that their friends have no idea what that means!
A dream is, was and always will be a dream in my eyes. Our reality: during the week sometimes meals together. Three planned meals every weekend.
Right. The American Dream in which men live off of the unpaid labor of women and call it equal.
You’re in heaven right now. We all are. Japanese and Chinese call space heaven. Here we are floating around in it. Why aren’t you making the best of it? You don’t die and then go to heaven. You’re already in heaven now living an infinite number of lives. You also wake up when you stop pretending you’re not god. In the meantime you’re just playing the silly little game “Oh I’m just poor little me!”. When you’re ready to wake up, you’ll wake up. Until then, you sleep going around unconsciously saying silly things like the “American dream” and believing in things you were told. You were sold a “dream” or “idea” from someone else and chase it like a carrot on the end of a stick endlessly. I’m not selling anything, but proposing what if?
I miss this era terribly. Thanks for posting this great music played my world class musicians
Agreed! These were some of the Best Days of our Lives! I miss EVERY THING about, and EVERY ONE from, this great Era! If we only had a Time Machine....
Yes I agree with you some of the best times of my life were from those days I miss them now more than ever before.
What year(s) is this from? It reminds me of grocery stores and Kmart in the 70's. 😢
I am so grateful to be a Boomer!Loved LIVING IN This Era!We truly "LOVED TO LIVE" LIFE.
And we KNEW that it was Special! Thanks so much for keeping IT with us!!
JUST BEAUTIFUL All The Way Around!!
Damn I miss this era 😢
This is the most ridiculously cheesy music I've heard in my life and I absolutely love it!!
Now in my grocery they play top 40 songs where half the lyrics have to be bleeped/edited.
This music got ridiculed back in its heyday. It was nice then and now. Imo.
This is a time when music still had class. I can't stand anything about today's world, especially the music!!!!!
Listening to these songs is a habit during my coffee break. What an amazing feeling to go back to the good times, thank you.
Man, how I miss those days.....
Born ‘65. Stuff was everywhere growing up. Never really noticed it I guess. Just part of life at that time. Fun to listen to now.
I never thought I would enjoy "muzak" as they called it. Turns out I really love it! This is great selection here - thank you! Feel I've come full circle through folk, rock, jazz, punk, electronica, alternative, indie, bossa nova, french - now this! Perfect for the long journey i've had in my life and in music!
12:40. OMG! The sunken living room with bench seating. I've died and gone to heaven. 44:00 could be my family room. Wish I could crawl inside these photos and just live there.
We had that!
Such pleasant and gentle music for an evening's work will evoke a feeling of subtle nostalgia for the 70s.
Such beautiful music. I wish times didn't change so drastically.
Life Was and Is GOOD.
Life is good for you huh? You do realize you're in the lucky minority.
Loving the chilled out vibes, 70s kitsch at it's best. I luv most music, modern to me is 30s to 70s cool.
Musical moments that recreate sights and sounds of other time and places. They were the best of times....they were the worst of times but still better than what we have to experience now....
Yes they even in a crowd of people these days most people look constipated and break out there phones to avoid any verbal contact with there fellow beings. It's REALLY a sad time we made for ourselves.
a little bit of time travel right here🥲
It is a damning statement that the WORST "music" of the 1960s and 1970s in elevators is better than the platinum selling "pop music" of today.
Don't cha know!
This is better than anything Beyonce or Taylor Swift has ever produced
This muzak is kin to jazz and i LOVE IT.
The living room at 12:35 though...amazing!
Hell yes.
Awesome music accompanied by beautiful photos :)
I found your channel about a month ago and began to wade in a bit, now I find myself routinely diving into the deep end and staying for quite a while_ My Uber passengers love it_This is so smart, Thanks
This is excellent for reading. I’m straight chillin 😎
años maravillosos 70 -80
we really enjoyed this tonight thankyou so much it helps me alot during these times of trouble and uncertainty in our world today
the world has always been uncertain. Look at the 1960s. People then were saying the same thing " the world is so uncertain, things change too fast..." the Vietnam war protests, hippies with men having *gasp* LONG HAIR! OMG! THREE MAJOR assassinations. Four students killed by the National Guard. We all now view Led Zepplin, Jimmy Hendrix, Rolling Stones etc as Classic rock, but at the time....I can remember hearing my grandparents totally aghast at what they termed "modern noise". like the world was coming to an end when Hendrix lit his guitar on fire. This may all seem tranquil and tame to us now mainly because so many decades have past and we've absorbed it all, and we now know that after all, we survived. When things are new and sudden, we haven't had the time yet to fully digest what's happening. This has always been and will always be the story.
and let us also remember that, for most of us, things seemed so nice back then because we were CHILDREN! I don't even remember Kent State, or the MLK riots. Why? cause I was little kid! I was listening to Winnie the Poo, not the Evening News.
안녕하세요~ 한국에서도 잘 듣고있습니다❤

hi from bulgaria !!! coooollll
I love how we stood inline waiting for the bus.older sisters & brothers watching out for us younger siblings. There were no fighting just a little name calling. We just named called back as we laughed knowing it was just in fun.Finding our seat next to our friend on the bus.First day of school was frantic hoping some new kid wasn’t in your seat from the year before.😮😅
Definitely brings back a lot of memories
Thankyou
when people had class and manners
That CBS "Special Presentation" intro always meant you were about to see something you had probably seen before but couldn't wait to watch again 364 days later, because that was the only time it was viewable. Never heard it with such high fidelity though. Nice, but it kinda takes away from the nostalgia of it. So glad I grew up in the 70s!
Charlie Brown Halloween and Christmas specials?
I WANT TO LIVE IN THE FABBEST PHOTOS that you post !!!
Thank you so much for your AUDIO VISUAL TREASURES OF PLEASURES❤🎉❤🎉❤
Around 46:15 - these kids are all old/older now, and so am I lol, so nostalgic. But, I got to keep on trucking.
最高!
I’ve been a longtime aficionado of this “elevator music” and first I’m happy I’m not the only fan out there, second even though there are plenty of mixes like these in UA-cam, few really hit the perfect spot for me. This one does. The music takes me back to a time when things in life were simpler, or so it seemed to me.
This collection is its own genre...very nice
I will admit i hated this back in my insane years, but so relaxing now.
The first one (at 1:03) sounds like it would be playing as we watched Tom Bradford driving home to 1436 Oak Street.
So many questions about the photo at 30:00...the two girls are in matching colors and knee socks...the same shorts but different tops. And the boyish girl (or is it a boy) on the beach chair is wearing the same knee socks, but has reversed the colors. It looks too unposed to be a catalogue shoot. Maybe red knee socks and blue and white were for the bicentennial? I am thinking way too much about this. But loving the music, nonetheless....
I never new that muzak means music for commercial orsupermarket or airport or lift...in europ no speaker in any lift. Waow, if only in my town they could put some cool stuff like this musik, it would be sooo nice rather then the ugly rap or Beyoncé....
Thank-you so much for your channel. In my opinion ,this is the best one of these compilations I've heard. Love the KPM style stuff. One humble request I would make would be a track list. We true geeks thrive on this information.

What a great opening track to a cool selection.

Great curations, although I must say I don't like the advertisements being the first part of the video. To someone not knowing what Muzak is, it might throw them off. I'd think this is some type of vocal jingle selection rather than the amazing instrumental music that it is. Just my opinion, but great stuff regardless...
Is that a picture of Geaga Lake Park, Cleveland, Ohio?
Is this the elevator to heaven or just a really tall building?
Damn I missed it. Painting. Ugh!
What is the title of the first one, after reach out and touch someone? Anybody knows? I really like it. Thanks, 🙏
