The Jesko Absolut is the fastest car Koenigsegg will ever make. The vehicle is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine which produces 1600 horsepower while running on E85 fuel at 2.2 bar boost pressure. But it's really clever trick is having an exceptionally low drag coefficient. Compared to the track-focused Jesko, the Absolut appears fairly similar, but there are quite a few aerodynamic changes in order to reduce the drag coefficient. This includes removing the rear wing, removing the hood ventilation, smoothed out the fender louvers, which actually still have holes in them, but with reduced drag. They’ve removed the front dive planes and winglets, altered the front splitter, and taken out the added downforce from the side vents by straightening the air’s flow. They’ve added dished wheels, which is a removable piece, for reducing the rear tires aerodynamic drag, and the rear of the body has been reshaped with a sharp cutoff, further reducing drag, as well as the overall body length being longer. The ride height has also been slightly lowered, and since it doesn’t have as much downforce, it also has a softer suspension. You may wonder why the fins remained on the car; Koenigsegg found they actually reduce drag, rather than increase it, by redirecting the vortex generated behind the car. The car still needs some downforce for stability, peaking at 150 kg, about a tenth of the Jesko’s maximum downforce at 1400 kilograms. Combined with the Jesko, there will only be 125 made.

NEW VIDEO EVERY WEDNESDAY! - Авто та транспорт
When Christian said “do the math” I felt like that was a calling to you to make this video
I had the same feeling haha. He may have wanted a few more things included: gear ratios, power curve, etc. But I simply assumed (because they're pretty smart folks) they did their homework on gearing and power, so I could simply focus on losses and find a close number.
@@EngineeringExplained I'd imagine they got it geared to maximise the power and torque of the engine.
I just realised, if the jesko has 1400kg of down force at 300mph l, does that mean it can tow a trailer loaded at 50mph?
@@EngineeringExplained Well, I have an excel calculator which I used quite accurately for the Chiron SS, and the Mclaren F1. The Agera RS did 277 mph at Nevada at 10% less air density with 1 MW for a certain CdA value (IIRC 0.41 cd) including powertrain losses. I also verified the top speed for the Chiron SS (very low CD of 0.31 compared to the standard Chiron, but large frontal area, sea level air density and AWD losses means it maxes out at 490 - it is still incredibly slick for a Bugatti). Now when I plug in the Jesko's numbers (CD and same frontal area of apprpox 1.9 sq.m) into that calculator with the air density at sea level and 1600 HP, it goes up to 525 kph!!! Yes. In fact with 1 MW alone, this car can hit close to Bugatti's top speed in Nevada. The CD is insanely low. In Nevada, in less dense air, a theoretical 540 kph plus is possible!!
The Mclaren Speedtail is the only thing out there slicker than this given that shape. Can't say if Gordon Murray's T50 will be that slick in streamline mode, but it should be close.
I neglected downforce here, unlike you, but included powertrain losses of around 8%, so that means 1472 wheel HP. CVK has said the Jesko absout makes only 150 kg of max downforce in total. So I don't think it made a difference.
Your top speed was faster as you used air density 1.225 kg/cu.m. I assumed it was around 1.3 at sea level....
Was waiting for this video ^_^ hehe

Less Narcos they don’t hold any records
Less Narcos Except it wasn’t a record of any sort. I don’t doubt they were able to pull off an actual record, but they didn’t and that’s what stands.
@@mydickisunbelievablysmallb8132 I have no idea what's going on with this record situation, could u explain it?
The only big competitor left is Hennessey
There is one more variable. The Koenigsegg engines typically peak in power between 7200-7800 rpm while the rev limit is at 8500 rpm on the Jesko. In the case of the Agera RS also, at the rev limiter the engine made below peak power. So this does depend on the final drive ratio, but I think the actual top speed could be slightly lower because of this.
agera rs was a customer car with default gear ratios, i think if they are planning to take the record seriously then they will optimise the final gear
@Engineering Explained Gear ratios on that car are insane, both short and long. For the Absolut, the shift points are : 47 mph, 61 mph, 77 mph, 98 mph, 128 mph, 162 mph, 205 mph, 266 mph and 337 mph.
The spread is crazy.
(Had to guess the final drive, but given the top speed, it could be 3.33).
If Koenigsegg decides to max out the regular Jesko at 260 mph due to all that downforce, then the gear ratios could be 28% shorter. So acceleration would be nuts. The car would have almost no delay upshifting either. So Christian in a recent video with Mr. JWW was saying they could upshift super short at like 40 mph something, and for the regular Jesko, a 26% shorter gear ratio would give that shift to 2nd at 37 mph.
The old Koenigseggs had a long first gear to avoid losing time upshifting so it shifted at around 60 mph. This one has a much better spread.
I love ur intelligence ❤

The Regera can do 400 within 1 mile if conditions are perfect. But to get to 533 kmph will probably take 5 miles for the Jesko. It's the last few kmph where the car covers almost all that distance because by then it's already going very, very fast!!

Had only heard about dual clutch transmissions till now
My Allison transmission has 6 clutches for each of the 6 "gears". It's a dual clutch shifting style transmission. It's all clutches and no gears. It only has a planetary gear set in the tail end output section. They can handle 500hp and 1000tq bone stock. A few performance mods can allow them to hold nearly 800hp and close to 1600tq. A full on drag race built Allison can hold over 2000hp and 4000tq. Gotta love diesel trucks. Lol

There are no "official" rules around this record, so saying they need to do X and Y is irrelevant. Unless you think they're lying (with their reputation at stake if the lie is uncovered), their car hit 300mph. I still remember the Top Gear episode from years ago when they (Cpt. Slow) drove the Bugatti Veyron on the VW test track. The conclusion was, that this vehicle would be the last and only hyper car - a term that wasn't really coined at that time iirc - because of the issues VW had when developing the Veyron. They predicted that car manufacturers would shy away from such risks and feared profit losses. Well, that prediction aged like milk.

Last summer I had a chat with Andy Wallace about his Bugatti high speed run compared to the one he did in the F1 in the 90s. According to him the limiting factor was the gyroscopic effect of the wheels meaning that above about 250 mph he had very little control. Reducing wheel size would reduce this but then tyres would be the limiting factor.
The moment CVK said do the math I thought of you I swear

0:43 You can see Jason's mind appear for 1 second.
you seem fairly successful, I can imagine your Dad probably says "Yay-son" pretty often.
Thanks for this. Actually very detailed and I like that you don’t simply stop at the solution. You go into the other details around the attempt. I would have liked to see you make a bigger deal about frontal area. People love to talk drag coefficient but ignore frontal area. That’s another issue with Bugatti, they always had large frontal area. I was shocked by how low they got the drag coefficient. I didn’t think anyone would compete with SSC. This will be a real battle now. I don’t know the frontal area of the Tuatara though.
Going off the available claimed numbers. Jesko is .278x20.24ft^2 = 5.627 drag area. Tuatara is .279x18 = 5.022. Jesko Absolut has 12% more drag while the Tuatara has 9% more power. That 18ft^2 for Tuatara is an old number so I’d like to see an up to date one. The Ultimate Aero did have a 19ft^2 frontal area though.
Calculating back, using the weight and downforce numbers you used for Absolut, the Tuatara would need a 22.17ft^2 frontal area to have matched statistics. With their specs the Tuatara should hit 354.5mph.
