  • I asked my buddy Danny to bring in his real and a fake Benchmade Knife he recently purchased. Keep your eye out the fakes. Some are getting really hard to spot. If the deals to good to be true like a $200-$300 knife for much less it may very well be a fake or often called clone. I hate that term I like "FAKE"! :(
    Here is a link to knives I like & recommend to my customers: Here are my favorites from kitchen to EDC and Craft Knives: www.alexandria...

    My dad was giving two Benchmade’s and I just thought it was crazy this guy was giving him Benchmade’s. I also found it odd that they were falling apart. I sent one in for the warranty and benchmade emailed me telling me it was a counterfeit!! Ridiculous. What a scam. They however took the knife and threw it away but they gave me a $50 credit to buy him a real one 😂😂. Solid move by the company

    Honestly half of the ones on eBay now are fake. It’s small details like the model number being just “535” when it should have more characters. Reporting them as counterfeit seems pointless, eBay usually responds they didn’t find a problem. Great video, hope it helps people avoid getting burnt.

    Appreciate the video. Makes me glad I buy direct from Benchmade. I’ve had a miniGriptilian for my EDC knife for about 13 years now. Bought my first plain-Jane one at Cabela’s and just lost that one a few months ago because I forgot to take it out of my pocket before going to a pro football game. Took public transportation so couldn’t leave it in the car. Might have made it through their entry screening, but wasn’t going to chance that so I just surrendered it there. I’ve also given several out as xmas presents to relatives, and now I always buy them direct from Benchmade; I upgrade the blade steel, and have them laser-engraved with their name/phone#. The real Benchmades are great quality knives in my experience.

    Got the same fake bugout from temu for 13$ and not a bad knife for under $20

      I agree for $20 it's a great knife what I cannot condone is how they steal intellectual property logos and pass off fakes as real. They troll Etsy and copy very creative peoples Ideas then make the same thing for 1/4 the price. Let's face it the Chinese love to steal from the USA and others too and get away with it all the time. We should blame ourselves because we keep buying from them. We should not let companies outright steal from US Companies and we allow it all the time. If they want to sell in the USA.
      I have seen those on Temu and the blur just a tiny bit of Benchmades logo and box if you did that on Etsy you would be banned ASAP on Amazon it would take forever but they wound take it down but because Temu is based in China they are getting away with it. Not sure what the Department of our government should be all shutting them down, but the US Patent Office ,or Dept of Commerce, or someone should be doing it sooner than later. I am in no way against China there are many great companies that don't do this stuff and make fantastic products like xTool my favorite laser company but we should demand they stop doing this if they want to sell here. It's the least we can do to protect our own great companies like Benchmade and small business creators on Etsy.

    What is your opinion of Chinese Fakes? Is it a good knife, does it take and hold an edge? What are the downsides, other than paying $250 for one?

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  6 місяців тому +3

      The steel is clearly not high quality but for a beat around knife I would have paid $30 bucks but in general I hate people who steal and copy good companies products they hurt that companies reputation and employees because many people would probably never know it’s a fake and if it falls apart in a few months it could hurt Benchmades reputation as people may think this knife sucks and not know it’s not the real product. I have even heard of people who collect the fakes but in general I do not like it. Amazon even walks the line I have seen clones on their site that say things like “Bug Out Style” knife but at least it’s not using their logo but even using a name that’s probably copyrighted is wrong but sadly this is the current marketplace.

      i got a fake 940 and freek to see which i would like better before buying a real one, used the 940 to cut up a fish for fishing bait and the edge completely rolled over. the freek seems better but i haven't had a real chance to test it yet other than opening boxes

      I would never buy a fake knife. You gotta be an absolute scumbag to sell fakes, and I don’t support scumbags even if there is value in their products.

      A few months ago I bought Bugout on sale for $130. Yes, the steel is s30v, but in the version from Benchmade it is perfectly hardened steel. So it's better to look for the best deal at the price than to buy a fake. You can buy a fake only to understand the ergonomics of a knife handle, but certainly not for $50.🤣

    Blue Class is like Civilian versions. Black class; Military & Police. Gold Class; High End...Stupid Expensive knives. All Bugout’s are Blue Class with maybe a few Gold Class versions.

    I believe China has multiple manufacturers of Benchmade clones. Definitely a quality difference between the ultra cheap (say under 20 bucks) and their more expensive knives. In the knife itself and the packaging. The cheap ones noticeably stand out.
    My experience with them is from 4 to 7 years ago...most the knives I tried were advertised as D2, but I would equate the cheap knives at 7cr to 8cr13mov or less. The nicer knives were all over the place and seems to perform better as the price went up. My twenty dollar knives act like 9cr18mov or badly heat treated D2, while a few 40-60 dollar knives perform like a good D2 with added corrosion resistance like maybe S35vn. I have one example of a ZT clone that is nicer and out performed the real ZT 0452...

      Your not the first to tell me that - China is ruthless when it comes to stealing products I am sure it hurts a lot of great companies

      Sad but true, but on the other hand, I’ve also seen several American companies use their intellectual rights to stifle their competition and take advantage their customers. I also don’t like to support large corporations that have lost their values and will do anything for a buck.

    I've seen quite a few of the fake Bugouts I think you can get them for 6 dollars on a couple of those Chinese websites. I loved Benchmade back in the 90s when they weren't as big a company as they are today and made a great knife. These days I'm not a fan of their knives and I'm not saying they make a bad knives I just don't care for them.

      I like Benchmade knives but if you think I'm paying nearly $200 for a plastic handled knife, you're insane. I think this is why the fakes sell as well as they do.

      How true. Benchmade isn't making knives that I want to buy as soon as I see them. I understand that what I want in a knife may not be what everyone else wants. If they made a new axis AFCK with some interesting steel, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. A magnacut AFCK for example. A new CPM-M4 Skirmish or Rukus. A new Automatic Bedlam in a high-end steel.

      I could not agree more! Present day BM is dedicated to ripping off the "edc" community that the vast majority don't know better. They promote the bugout (my opinion $100 knife in its best configuration) and sell the pos for well over $200, spydco, is where it's at. Atleast spyderco takes blade geometry, heat treatment, and last place of importance type of steel. It's pretty sad when spyderco's house steel vg-10 shits on benchmades version of s90v a real quality steel that bm does not treat to its fullest potential. Guess they figure most "edc" guys will never know the difference lol all they need to see is e.g. cruwear or s90v.

    50$ fot fake too expensive.😂
    In fact, a fake can be easily distinguished by two criteria, even if there is no box.
    1 clip on the fake is painted, on the original it is black wash.
    2 The axis of the blade on the original is well polished, so the lock moves smoothly; on the fake, everything is not so good, and the lock works worse.

    • @ALXSHARPEN
      @ALXSHARPEN  6 місяців тому

      Not on this one the lock was great and was very smooth the biggest thing that stood out was the paint on the blade finish. Compared to the real one the finish was not great. The real ones coating was A+++ but sadly the fake will fool many people IMO
