- New Orleans trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah has a new record out. It’s called ‘Stretch Music,’ which is a perfect title. Not only does Christian stretch the idea of ‘jazz’ over all genres of music with this release, he also stretches how a record can be heard.
Members of Christian's sextet are Braxton Cook on alto sax, Lawrence Fields on piano, Kris Funn on bass, Corey Fonville ondrums and Dominic Minix on guitar.

Starts out with sort of a lift of Albert King's "Born Under A Band Sign", then moves from there. Beautiful.
+Basheer Muhammad My thoughts exactly... This shit is Born... in 7! :) Great stuff either way...
Yes sir, my brother.
...you heard that too, huh?!?
I happened to love the guitar solo. It had an interesting and unexpected off set that changed the mood of the piece.

The guitarist reminds me a bit of Larry Coryell in his younger days with El Chico Hamilton.
+Basheer Muhammad I just got the same haircut as Basquiat !
Love it.
とても素晴らしい演奏です。
Awesome shirt!
perfecto
:D
I can't tell if I feel like the guitar solo sound more blues with jazzy inflections or jazzy with blues inflection? Regardless, this band is incredible!
+Nolan Carrico I love his solo, the guy is really young as well
I would say blues with jazzy inflections but damm, it's an incredible solo!
Wow...
wowwowowowow
Cool
👍👍👍
Geeesh
am I the only one who thinks braxton cook sounds just like kenny garrett?
Poderoso
sweet! the riff kinda reminds me of ian carr's nucleus
They whisper to the instrument!
muy humilde
First hearing. Can't comment as yet
Hendrix vibes!
Are you guys going to upload Karrin Allyson?
2:35 Stravinsky quote!
I see what you mean, but I think that`s stretch, one could find IS everywhere using such loose parameters. My opinion only Brother...I totally accept the idea that others are capable of deeper thought and understanding than me! And by the way, if you can hear Maestro S around you every day, then I am totally envious of you!!! All best Brian (Maestro of none!)
Is that a new interpretation on the trumpet? I've never seen it designed that way before.
Dizzie Gillespie had his trumpet like that way before him. it's for projection reasons I believe.
+Dylan Mahoney Similar to Dizzy's trumpet. Dizzy had his bell change the angle at the valves.
+supercooled custom designed with www.adams-music.com/?lid=1033
From what I heard, it first happened by accident when something (or someone) fell on his trumpet
Dizzy Gillespie played with the upturned end if that's what you're referring to. That was back in the 40s. It's just much less common.
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Is there any score available for this masterpiece ? I'd like to play this with my jazz band !
transcribe it!
Hans-Christoph : We all hear music, you see a shirt .......
+51tomtomtom Don't be so negative. Just because someone commented on a shirt doesn't mean anything. Be nice.
hawly shat 😐

this some really good music , I have no idea why the black community chooses too have hip hop goff balls represent them .
born under a bad sign at the start do ya hear it.............
Is it just me or is intonation an issue?
Chops, let the critics lie

Thought this was about to be a Black Sabbath cover.
great tune, but not a rip off of Born Under A Band Sign?
Bass player is a beeast
Kris funn, i cant believe his playing
There is no explanation I can be thinking of where a guitarist who plays out of tune, with a very questionable sound and lines in a band that otherwise sounds so good and well-tuned makes sense.
I agree, some may dislike this choice but I actualy like the sound :-)
jazztom86 are you in?
He's not "out of tune" per se. He's just using a lot of dissonance and "off tones". There are actually a number of guys who do it well. Frank Zappa and Alex Lifeson do it every now and then.
jazztom86 I think it's mostly the lack of vibrato use and distortion that gives that effect. I'm sure he has a tuner pedal in his setup at this point...
non chord tones and dissonance is great, it's what gives jazz tension and excitement....but the guitarist here sound lost and like he's not very comfortable on this tune. He started off well with some cool lines but became rambling and rhythmically weak; which made him sound unfocused
heeyyyy...the Guitar player is out of tune...out of key......what a pitty
Fundación Filarmonica de Maracaibo the Guitar is perfect.
Ce guitariste n'est ni fait ni à faire !
Il est accordé un quart de ton trop bas. Poussif et pas en place. Altérations moches. Les autres sont excellents.
No, thanks...
Matt Stevens could at least tune his guitar. But maybe it was more important for Christian to finally have an all-black band
Race-baiting sjw snowflake spotted. Triggered level 100
This is so uninteresting and boring. I don't care what you look like or dress like or what facial expressions you make or how old you are. I care what you sound like. And this sound ain't there.
Alright Mr. Music Professor!! Thank you for your piece of mind. This guy is changing lives somewhere else . But anyway please dont even care about that too. ! Life still moves on 🙏
