I haven't used hot water bottles for years due to poor manufacturing standards and lack of safety. The last one I had sprouted holes all over after only a year and I found I could tear the so-called rubber like cardboard. But if I could find an old one from the 70s, 80s or maybe even 90s I would use it because they used to last for decades. I have switched to using plastic fruit juice containers. They don't leak. I just use hot tap water to fill and that is fine.
