Go north to the Bay of Islands, then come south via Great Barrier Island, then check out Auckland and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf before heading out to the Coromandel and down the east coast. So many bays with bush clad hills dropping into deep blue water with white, sandy beaches to explore! One of the things I love so much about NZ is that you can walk thru long grass, thru forests etc ...and not be concerned at all about wild animals. No snakes, no bears, no scorpions....one of the great joys of Kiwi life :)
True but there is nothing free about sailing its all very expensive. Ask the total cost of being on the hard. My guess is just rent was $2,000 at least. Thats not all the work done. Just rent.

Having raised cattle, I wonder what breed these are? They have been pampered for them being so friendly. My husband found friendly cows are a nuisance. So, so happy for you to be back sailing. You're going to miss out on the most amazing parts of New Zealand if you don't go to the South Island. I have seen dozens of UA-cam Cruisers channels that made it to New Zealand but not one of them did the South Island. I lived in New Zealand for 12 years and I can promise you, you won't be disappointed.

While I am certainly not as well traveled as you two are….I have lived in Alaska (55 years-raised & retired from there, lol), CA, AZ, NV, OR, WA, HI, WY, UT, MO and now ID. I have lived in all those states & traveled to many others, so I have always tried to appreciate their own unique beauty (had to work hard in finding Nevada’s beauty, but I did. Your video did not make it difficult to find New Zealand’s beauty. Thank you for sharing it, Patti
A really enjoyable episode. Thank you. Not that I don’t enjoy the “fixing” of the boat, I do. This one just had a nice bit of scenery, the cows, the landmark etc. One thing I can wholeheartedly agree with is, “it’s stressful at the dock / close quarters.” It will get the heart pumping for sure.
Never mind the stressful moments or near misses, any docking maneuver in tricky conditions, so long as it's completed without damage and without injury, deserves a perfect 10 out of 10 score.
North 1st, Bay of Islands has some of the best beaches and anchorages in NZ. Not to mention the hiking, trails and bush. It's a giant playground. Then south, hopping your way down the Coromandel Peninsula and just keep going, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Nelson, Marlborough, Akaroa. Who knows maybe be even do the loop and visit Fjordland - not sure if you're feeling that adventurous though.
It's all required in my opinion - even if you're not feeling adventurous when you set out you will definitely be glad you did it once you're there. That's just how NZ is. And you definitely don't want to regret missing something after the fact. But yeah, I agree and I bet North to South will give the best weather conditions all round because it can get intense down south at certain times of year. I'd even recommend going as far down as Otago, or even all the way round the South Island in order to get both the East and West coasts covered, if that's at all feasible. But they'll obviously want to go inland too - and prepare to get into hiking shape haha! I'm excited to follow along and see as much of NZ on film as possible 😇
It's going to be a perfect year to go all the way south, Stewart Island and fiordland. Also I haven't seen a sailing channel do it yet. I have open CPN tracks if you want them.

Your travels bring back fond memories of my time when I was a chef on large private yachts. I never traveled as far and wide as you two have but I must say life on the ocean is simply unique and inspiring and also filled with hard work. I don't think people realize just how much work is involved maintaining a boat. I remember when you came through Palm Beach and fort Lauderdale I was going to try to look you up. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next exciting video.

Well let's face it. Here in New Zealand plenty of cases where tourists are assaulted, raped and murdered. Not a safe country at all. Time for us new zealanders to be more honest about that .
We had a similar experience of leaving the docks/marina after months of boat work (we recored our decks). It equally felt so good to get back out there. We could definitely relate leaving the docks are difficult given the tight quarters and having a bump on our boat. It was so nice to see you guys back out there! Safe travels ⛵️☀️🌊

You two have motivated me and my wife. We have decided to travel the US for a year, end up in Corpus Christi, purchase a catamaran and sail away.
North 1st, Bay of Islands has some of the best beaches and anchorages in NZ. Not to mention the hiking, trails and bush. It's a giant playground. Then south, hopping your way down the Coromandel Peninsula and just keep going, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Nelson, Marlborough, Akaroa. Who knows maybe be even do the loop and visit Fjordland - not sure if you're feeling that adventurous though.

It's all required in my opinion - even if you're not feeling adventurous when you set out you will definitely be glad you did it once you're there. That's just how NZ is. And you definitely don't want to regret missing something after the fact. But yeah, I agree and I bet North to South will give the best weather conditions all round because it can get intense down south at certain times of year. I'd even recommend going as far down as Otago, or even all the way round the South Island in order to get both the East and West coasts covered, if that's at all feasible. But they'll obviously want to go inland too - and prepare to get into hiking shape haha! I'm excited to follow along and see as much of NZ on film as possible 😇
It's going to be a perfect year to go all the way south, Stewart Island and fiordland. Also I haven't seen a sailing channel do it yet. I have open CPN tracks if you want them.

Your travels bring back fond memories of my time when I was a chef on large private yachts. I never traveled as far and wide as you two have but I must say life on the ocean is simply unique and inspiring and also filled with hard work. I don't think people realize just how much work is involved maintaining a boat. I remember when you came through Palm Beach and fort Lauderdale I was going to try to look you up. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next exciting video.

Hey back again my phone got stolen last month love watching you guys glad to see you finally got that window done little secret you might want I have some very large fenders and some regular sized fender there's a little screw on the end that you can add or remove air let all the air out of your Fender and roll them up nicely
With Jason's hair all slicked back the way it is, plus his personality, he seems like a person made for the 1920's.

Well let's face it. Here in New Zealand plenty of cases where tourists are assaulted, raped and murdered. Not a safe country at all. Time for us new zealanders to be more honest about that .

We had a similar experience of leaving the docks/marina after months of boat work (we recored our decks). It equally felt so good to get back out there. We could definitely relate leaving the docks are difficult given the tight quarters and having a bump on our boat. It was so nice to see you guys back out there! Safe travels ⛵️☀️🌊
All the time you were prancing around on the hillsides all I could think about was how you will be watching it back 35 years from now and saying to yourselves: “We really have had a great life haven’t we”.

Nice cat! I didn't see any bullies! I saw a very nice friendly greeting by the cows. They were just saying hello. Imagine if you were out there all the time and had no one to say hello to very often.
