Hi- Could you please describe the gear you’re using. Rod? Rod length? Reel? Line type, weight? Any backing? Is this the same setup you’d use for other types of fish from shore? Stripers? Perch? Thanks! Just getting into the sport.
Hi! Rod is dark matter ob 10ft, reel is daiwa bg 4000, 30lb braid with backing (so it doesnt slip) and a 3ft 20lb mono leader at the end. This is a setup i can and do use for all species you mentioned but could definitely go much lighter for perch. Hope this helps!
Looks a lot more fun than the ole barred perch. Are Halibut a seasonal thing in the surf or can you catch them year round. Last time out I got hit by something that cut my leader and I thought it was possibly a halibut.
After living in Santa Barbara for over a decade and moving to NorCal (north bay) this year, I am losing my mind waiting for summer halibut. I stopped using ewg hooks on drop shots unless there’s a lot of salad. I’ve just missed so many good hits with them. Really like using long-shank hooks instead. Maybe a “me” problem though.
@@FishermansChronicles What do you mean, title says you're fishing from a beach in Northern. Cal. and seeing beach homes on the beach and the lack of breakers, you clearly are not...
Is it any wonder that NOT giving away the actual place where fish are being caught is on the agenda of these guys who make the fishing videos? If you tell everyone the actual spot, the next thing you know, there’s 100 guys surfing on that beach getting their lines tangled with each other, etc. Fishing even when it’s at its best can be a pain in the ass on many levels, let’s face it. So, I guess the purpose of videos such as this one is to show that it CAN be done, and to even give advice on bait and tackle, without necessarily tipping everyone and their dog off as to the actual spot, the actual beach where the fish are being caught. They know that a few guys might figure it out, but they also know that the vast majority of people watching this video will never make it to that beach. Lord knows, I’ve already spent a lot of time driving up and down the coast, and spent a hell of a lot more time looking for places that look like they might have potential for the kind of fish that I want to catch than I have actually getting my lures and my lines wet. Finding the right spot and being there at the right time is definitely half the battle, if not more.
Take a steel pair of a large vice-grip and weld brads(small nails), to it, and you have an approximation of what the business end of what a halibut is about! 🥴😉 ♤♤♤
Surf grinding is hard but super rewarding ‼️🍻
I’m suggesting a quality straw hat with the halibut logo 🍻
Thanks! Maybe one day... gotta sell these shirts first!
Nice fish! I love that beach.
Where is it?
Nice catch
What is the beach you are at

What kind of beaches do you look for when fishing for halibut? Are there specific structures to look for?
That’s a great fish man I live supper close to there I alway fish there I saw you once
Any camping trips with your friend this summer. Has she caught a halibut yet?
We did get one camping trip in and she got a 30 inch hali on a different trip! You will see the video later!

All year around, but they usually only come close to shore when water is warmer
in Norcal its typically a summer thing. what cut you off could have been a shark too, plenty of those in the surf
Sweat ounce weight do you use and line pound

What size hook do you use?
4/0 ewg. Can tell because of where it inserts on his 4” zoom fluke. Hope that’s helpful to someone 8 months later lol

Nice I want to go fishing with you 🤫
What rod do you use? What action is it? Thanx
Hey bro, read the older comments. He detailed his exact setup for another viewer. Happy hunting!
Halibut legal size limit 22” I think that # is little high. It should be 18” 😅
its 22 so they can reach sexual maturity and reproduce before being kept! for a healthy fishery!

Gracias!
