    Well done for sharing everything and not just the highs. There’s no shame in not completing something with so much climbing and heat that you’re not currently used to. Probably my favourite video, not because you’ve struggled but because I totally relate to it. Keep up the good work

    I host the local “old and slow’ of the off road/ gravel group for my local cycling club. We are the out of shape, bad knees, back, and any other health issues part of the club. Frequent check-in stops is our game. Our first aid kit is more extensive than others with several with extensive first aid kits and CPR training. But we are out and doing it to the best that our bodies can handle.

    Don’t sweat it buddy 👍, I for one admire the honesty. It’s easy sometimes to be lulled into a false sense that everything will always be ok. Sometimes you have to listen to what your body tells you and it can be very dangerous not to. Glad you enjoyed your day, thanks for sharing 👍👍👍. Good luck with your next few routes 🚲🚲

    44 km. with more than 700 meters of climb. That´s still pretty well done! And it´s early in the season so you will probably improve from now. The other cyclists in your group look so skinny compared to you (and me!!), so it´s much harder for you to climb so much as it is for them. So considering that, you did really well. For a relatively heavy cyclist, you are actually a good climber, in my view.

    Weather looks similar to what had in Scotland this past week 😂 (we have actually been spoilt ☀️). Completed a 4 day 250 mile charity cycle from John O’Groats to Braemar with some stinking climbing (totalling over 4700m). I’d never have dreamt of attempting some of the climbs a matter of year or so ago, having completed it I have to say was feeling a bit emotional (which isn’t like me!).

    I’m a cycle coach, and have been out in Spain for 85 days, just having to head home now. You really need to consider the damage the flight and transfers did to you before this ride. When I arrived here, due to a long illness I could only ride 25km or so (it is hilly though), but last week I rode 102km with 1400m of climbing. Whilst you enjoyed the weather, it was 15°C more than your body is used to, and in temps like that up to 75% of your energy goes to cooling yourself, add in the wind and you’ll realise it was a tough ride, but for more reasons than you think.
    Finally, it looked really busy there, next year try Denia instead 😂

    • @donreed5074

      I'm looking at Denia now, I assume it's good?

    • @Muppetkeeper
      @Muppetkeeper 10 місяців тому +1

      @@donreed5074 The cycling there is great. Calpe is just down the road, and many world tour teams base themselves there over winter. In fact just outside of Denia there is a hotel that has "altitude rooms", where they pump out some air pressure in the rooms, and the top team members sleep in those rather than being stranded at the top of a mountain in the Canary Islands all month.
      I don't know what type of cycling you like, but there are hills and mountains aplenty, and more importantly for me, cafes all over the place!

    • @Muppetkeeper
      @Muppetkeeper 10 місяців тому +1

    Just got in from my pitiful excuse for a ride (15-25 mph wind, 65F, covered 21 miles at 15.5 mph average), and Leonard has posted a video. One of those rare occasions when his weather is better than mine -- Perfect! No worries about the miss, Leonard. There is not one of us who hasn't bitten off more than he could chew at some point. At least you are out there doing it Leonard. I just got back (Wednesday night) from Girona from 3 days riding-first ride we did was Banyolls and Rocacorba, 57 miles and 5552 feet of climbing. Rocacorba itself is 7.8 miles and 2500 feet of climbing between an average of 6-15%! I have never done anything like that before and the short sharp climbs we have around Cambridgeshire were not exactly suitable training…….

    Hi Leonard I had exactly the same yesterday here in Switzerland
    I took a left instead of a right and ended up on a long and very steep hill then (once Komoot had worked out where I was) I had to turn around and do it all again in reverse!
    Not proud to admit that I fell off clipping in, cramped up and ended up walking for a bit.
    I’m always amazed by how many hills you can get on a “flat route” here 😂
    Enjoy the sun ☀️

    I enjoy watching your channel Leonard, some great videos on here Mallorca looks amazing. Somewhere where I’d like to visit on the bike. The end of the day, we all wear Lycra we all ride. The most important thing is you enjoyed the ride. As I’ve said before to others, there’s no enjoyment in cycling when you’re completely hammering yourself out around the lanes in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong I give myself some poke but I back off when it’s too much as I find it destroys the enjoyment element. It’s about pace, enjoyment and aiming for those targets over time. Build up gradually. There’s always someone slower/ faster than you out there. For instance I’m better at climbs due to being a very slim build. Yet someone more stocky would leave me standing on the flats. We’ve all got our advantages/ disadvantages.

    I was there last week too. And I was the lad at the back most of the time also. Well done and great footage. Don’t forget too that the heat has a massive effect as we are not used to it. I always carry 2 bottles on my bike. One with energy drink. The other plain water, most of which gets poured on my head and neck to cool me down. It works for me. Give it a try next time in the heat.

      And not only do you pick up speed on that section you can actually see just how steep it really is.

    Leonard, you are doing climbs that other people are just talking about lying at the beach. Cycling is about actually cycling - and this you do! You are an idol for many. We love your honest content! You tell how it is and how you feel.

    I just came back from Mallorca. Did the route to cap formentor too of course. I knew you where in trouble after what you said after the first climb. It's easy to underestimate the climbing on Mallorca.
    You are obviously into cycling, so you must know weight matters. So it can't have been a total suprise that the climbing was going to be tough.
    Thanks for the video , was good to watch!

      The thing is, I’ve always managed the whole route on my previous trips to Mallorca.

      Yeah, I just checked the rest of your channel. You defenitly know Mallorca better then me (first time visit last week). Hope you enjoyed the trip anyway.

    If anyone deserves good weather it is you, Leonard with lousy British climes. Here in Toronto, we had sunny, 24C last week and few teens. I was in Mallorca 7 years ago and loved it.

    First spring rides after skiing (and eating a lot) all winter suck SO MUCH 😂
    I know it is getting better and better from here but damn, what a torture April rides are.

    My days the weather looks amazing skies so clear. Loving the music in the video. Will you be using your insta360 camera to a 360 video during one of your bike rides that would be soo cool 😎

      Sadly, I won’t be using the 360 camera this trip; it’s not easy when riding with a group.
