I finished Children of Dune just a couple weeks ago and much like Messiah, it was a struggle for me to get through. I completely agree with your review of both. And because of that, I think I will take your example and give it a year before I attempt God Emperor. Great review as always Jonathan!
Frank has described the plot of his Dune novels as “cloital”, which is pretty funny. Glad you enjoyed the book, it’s nice hearing you talk about the Dune series. Can’t wait to see what Dune books you read next.
Great review as always Jonathan! I really enjoyed the extended universe books too. I had a hard time sticking with God Emperor but I’m glad I did. I agree the world building made it worthwhile. Thanks again!
I’m getting ready to start reading God Emperor of Dune, so I’m glad to hear your thoughts. I’m expecting to like it more than you did though as I REALLY enjoyed Messiah and Children of Dune. I’m hoping it ends really well because I’d like to say ‘the end’ after I finish it.
The beginning of this book really changes things up! Still reading it right now and it’s interesting. Duncan 😂 poor Duncan. Frank really held on to the Duncan character.
I also thought original was a smasher, but the further i read away from it, the stranger the ideas and imagery became. The worm-like character idea was a bit far-fetched and I thought the writing was kind of tedious.
Hi Johnathan - New subscriber here. Have you tried the Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio? I'm no sci-fi gal and this had me hooked! The prose is exceptional with so many beautiful quotes, and the world building is like no other, and the battle scenes will have you reading pages on end in one breath. It's a Name of the Winds meets Dune kind of book. It's told from a first person POV so it's easy to digest and understand. And the protagonist goes through so much he'll break your heart, but he's also such a badass and you'll root for him like no other character. Please give it a try!
Really big, weird ideas in this book. It takes the philosophical concepts and debates and turns the dial to 11. There are a lot of people standing around talking. It's hard to recommend this book even though I'm glad I read it.
Congrats on hitting 5K subs!

Great review, I've been considering reading the Dune novel. Also, nice new profile picture!
My memories of that book are so weird

If you haven’t already man you should read/review dooku jedi lost. I just picked it up today and I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on it

I just got some of the books recently, and intend to start the series this fall.
