Will Cheap Anime Figures Replace Expensive Ones?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 сер 2024
- Taito has been releasing a new brand of prize figures called Artist Masterpiece Plus. These prize figures are meant to emulate the quality and design of more expensive scale figures, that are often three times their price. Will this brand of figures change everything in terms of pricing for figures?

I think these will disrupt the figure industry and hopefully get the Scale Figure companies to respond with cheaper yet quality figures. Expensive scale figures will not go away for the super collector but hopefully this will get more affordable, quality figures in the hands of those who cannot afford. Just that Sakura Miku Lamp version not only gives you a base that isn't plain but the working lamp light gives usable value outside of simply looking at it - something that many scale figures do not offer.
Kotobukiya already make great cheaper figures, also Union Creative make some great cheaper figures, I just bought their entire To Love-Ru 1/6 Darkness line and they’re amazing, most were under ¥20k new. Also got their Albedo 1/6 for ¥17k & got Aura Bella for ¥12k on sale.
still expensive compared to prize@@InfamyOrDeath-__-
hopefully will disrupt for the better. im tired of buying 20k yen + figures
If you knew how they were made, you would know why they are so expensive. The detail in comparison is on another level and they are usually hand assembled and hand painted
I've got some of these, especially the Pop Up Parade figures and although they're much cheaper, the detail isn't as good and the paint is definitely not as good. Although some have been good, I'm always disappointed in one or two ways, usually always with the paint details.
I was literally in Japan and noticed that the prize figures are looking better than scales. Picked up the taito amp mermaid Miku. I couldn't believe it was not a scale
Áq
As someone with both sega prize mikus and maxfactory/good smile mikus, the sega figure isn’t even on goodsmiles or lotobukiyas level in terms of quality, detail and attention to detail. Plus the fact all hood smiles figures and usually most high end figures are completely hand painted
As an avid figure collector, I love to see this disruption of the market! It sucks that there are characters with great sculpts that are stuck behind this abstract paywall, limiting fans from enjoying their favorite characters in figure form. Now, I've seen plenty of scales that are 3x the price but look WORSE than their prize counterparts. I hope more companies adopt this premium prize figure approach and remove the choice between quality vs price.
Ive always found Sega SPM to be very nice for a prize line, figures are big and dynamic
Super Paper Mario
Don’t think they will necesarry overtake scales, but it’s great seeing more price competition in the figure collecting space, and having lower tier price option for novice collectors and those on a more limited budget (so we don’t all have to constantly eat instant ramen whenever the bill for figures needs to be paid).
Hopefully. Getting tired of insanely overpriced figures.
Can agree with that statement.
Even figure lines such as figma that was once very affordable which I have purchased a lot of years ago have became way too overpriced, and that led to me stopped buying figures altogether. The last figure I bought was the Saber Lily re-run from GMC all the way back on 2016.
You totally earned a subscriber. Your videos are very simple and quick to my surprise while still being really well made and informative. I myself have just barely been getting into figure collecting and it’s interesting to hear about the different companies and the different styles and qualities that there is. I had recently got the Elaina Wandering Witch figure and though it’s not one of my favorite anime, I don’t regret getting the figure because it is so well-made and beautiful to look at.
Taito's AMP+ looks really good, especially for the price - but they need more than 5-6 models that you can actually purchase before they and similar brands stand a chance of replacing more expensive ones...
Yeah but their lack of licences kills it for me. It's great that they offer great quality for a price but I want specific characters which are only available with other companies. Other figures are probably more expensive because it include the cost of the license.
The detailing on the Marin Kitagawa Kuroe Shizuku version from AMP+ is gorgeous. It's crazy good for the asking low price and makes winning at the crane game machine exciting again, without having the slight feeling of being ripped off with lower quality stuff.
Goddamn your videos are really well made and despite being short and concise. Looking forward to more uploads!
Awesome video, I also think that prize figures are underrated and they have improved a LOT and are still getting better. Thanks for showing me this new "Artist MasterPiece" line because I had no idea about it!
I bought the Albedo AMP when GSC announced their PUP gown!Albedo after reviewing the promo photos, and Taito is absolutely killing it. Not only are the bases better (which isn't hard to do after GSC dropped the color-coordinated hex bases for the basic clear circles), but the details are what I'd have expected from buying a 1/8, 1/7 or even 1/6 scale - the only drawback having been that I had to assemble her (her left wing's tab was more difficult than the right by a fair bit).
Yep, I picked up the artist masterpiece Elaina figure in Japan for 2000yen. Huge steal!
I really just hope that more characters from different series get included into this ideal. I think it would take the cake tbh
Hmm this is a good question I want to believe that this will force the companies that make more expensive figures to take care about every possible detail to make it worth to get it
IF only Taito has the license on more characters. I brought their Kurumi and always have her on my desk (I have over a hundred scale fig/ statue) but they can only stay inside the display case.
Their Albedo is so well made it beats a lot of the character's scale fig on the market ( You need to fix her wings by using a hair dryer though). Now I'm praying my favorite characters made it into
the artist masterpiece line.
Thats great, more variety poses face sculpts and options. Price tag isnt an issue if it looks really good and has an LED or something like the Miku lantern shown here.
recently started getting into figure collecting, and yes Taito has been a great blessing. Got a few items from Banpresto, but it just not comparable to Taito in QC overall.
Currenlty from AMP series I have Mai, Miku 2022 and Elaina. Really happy with them! I only buy characters I really love, otherwise I'd bankrupt myself 😄😄 The recent Kitagawa Marine & Albedo were amazing but decide not to pick her up. But is looking forward for next year's Date a Live AMP Kurumi & Tohka - those two looks AMAZINGGGGG!!!!!
I really hope it challenges the figure industry. It’s nice to see GoodSmile respond in a positive way by adding competition to their already popular line-up of nendoroid, scales, and now pop-ups!
I’ve just found your website recently and bought my first figure from you, I got a 1/7 Ikaros, delighted to find it as I couldn’t find any Ikaros figure anywhere else, I really want the 1/6 Kotobukiya but this 1/7 will do. I just wish I found your site a little sooner, as I had to buy the Plum Nymph 1/6 preowned and the base is discoloured, but you have it brand new.
am a scale model painter. if they get the printed face right everything else is easily improved. even better than the original. always better. some can paint the face have no problem or whatsoever. from texturing to details and weathering is the fun part for me. not just your average weabo collector 😅
I just love the editing for this video! What software do you use?
I hope they make so many of these for all the characters that don't normally get figures because they're not popular enough. They really do look good for their prices. The Junko Enoshima pop up one looks way better than her scale figure, for example
I don't think these will make scales go bankrupt but prize figures will definitely go up in popularity
When more variety comes, they for sure will, and I hope they will. I'm waiting for the day where companies start putting more into the market for AFFORDABLE male character figurines rather than only female, as I am primarily a person who likes and prefers men.
I remember seeing this very cool Undertaker (black butler) figure and was about the shell out until I saw the price being $400.
pronunciation of "figure" broke my brain
I'm more into mid size but detail figures than scale ones so I can have more space on my personal display shelf to collect lots of figures than how scale figures will cramp up spaces which lead to purchasing more shelfs for expensive figures so I think this new mid price figure era is good for some collectors related with my taste
This also happens with car models industries, especially 1:64 scale. Some very detailed models that usually cost $20 can now be bought from a new brand that cost $10 with almost the same quality. Now sure they don't have minor details that expensive one have like super small but detailed stickers or antenas, but for some car models that don't have that feature it's still a huge steal for 10 dollars cheaper
Apparently it's happening across the industry huh. Custom mechanical keyboards are also pushing down budget prices now. What used to be 500 USD now you can have the same quality for 150 to 250 USD range.
It's hard not to compete. Figures are absurdly expensive
It's now making its way for quantity figures, because a lot of new collectors are now rising.. 👍
Bought a brand new CSM Power Luminasta as my second figure for like only $16 with shipping included and I am amazed at the quality and detail. Still couldn't believe the MSRP where I'm from is only $20.
great channel!
this is why i've always disliked pop up parades. they have ugly bases, are small and are sometimes worse quality than youre average prize, yet they advertise to be affordable and high quality yet there's companies like taito making artist masterpiece which are affordable, large and amazing quality as well as furyu's bicute bunnies
Not really a fan of PUP either, the quality can be a miss or hit. Sadly, it is one of the few line of figures that actually release Hololive characters, which I am collecting.
At least PUP have a wide range of figures for side characters. Their sizes are bookshelf friendly too. Quality can be hit or miss. I hate that they took hexagon bases away which was their own unique style because everyone kept whining about it. Newly released PUP bases are now Bandai-level of meh
Taito AMP+ look good and all but... they have like 5 different models that you can actually buy.
Once they have 100+ like PUP the comparisons can start in earnest...
@@Priogenwanted to collect PUP as well because of the Hololive figs but they made Fubuki look so ugly...
@@randius8476 oh no, Fubuki is definitely not the worse offender, have you seen Sora? I thought I got a bootleg the first time I opened her up. Her sculpt is so bad.
I’ve never seen a taito prize figure go for over 2000yen which is usually their base price. AMP and AMP+ line costs exactly the same as their coreful line ect but with much more dynamic poses/bases and a lot higher quality. Ever since they release the first in the series I was stoked
Honestly, for me it is very important to see it in person before buying. I'm from Europe, so a lot of things are very hard to get, and the webshops tend to keep cheaper products and the very few shops also only keep cheaper ones mainly. Therefore I really hope that they upgrade the lower and midtier figures. I recently bought two Luminasta figures, and they are beautiful to me.
As a fellow European, no? The vast majority of figures are available here regardless of price. Look at Archonia, Figuya, Good smile Europe, .... more sites I don't know the names well enough of to quote. Ixu defiance? Anime-figuren de? Not to mention MyFigureCollection.
The biggest actual issue we have here is that local figures are often so expensive that even with import taxes importing them from Japan is still cheaper.
Artist Masterpiece! I have to admit they are arguably one of the best figure companies/manufacturers in recent age. Dynamic posing, unique base, and surprising amount detail all for a sliver of a price scale figures are. The only problem with this line is the figures structural integrity, they tend to include free standing pegs that are confusing to put together. It’s also a pretty limited amount of figures, but that’s honestly understandable. I only hope that with this price everyone along the production line is paid properly.
Edit: I own the miku laidos figure and I’m very happy with it. The only problem is that one of the hair insert points is too long so the plastic kinda juts out. And yes, the confusing free standing peg.
I bought that Sakura Miku with the lantern at a con, not knowing anything about figures, because it looked so high quality!
There is room for all. Scales will always be the best sculptures and command high prices and shelf space. But Prize and Middle figures Popup Tenitol are amazing on my shelf.
😅 as someone who owns a lot of prize figures from bandi i would say glitter and glamor or EXQ sires.
As someone who has both, no. They both have their place. While they are cheaper and more of them. The expensive figures have such a higher level of detail that it’s actually a high level work of art that the sega prove figures cannot come close to matching.. I definitely don’t mind shelling out for a really nice miku figure.
My outsider input on the anime figure industry is the cheaper figures will lead to large change. These high quality yet well priced figures will become the standard while the higher you go in price point the more excentric features that will be present. For example like the Sakura Miko that was shown with a light we can see wild ideas permutating the industry.
FuRyu’s Exceed Creative Figures are stunning. I won the Luminasta Miku and the Exceed Macaroon Miku and I love the Exceed more than the Luminasta lol
Interesting, I was interested in the Albedo and already have the Nazuna Luminasta figure.
Haven't bought a figure since getting my hand on the Torabishi Lana figure, but lower-price point, higher quality figures are always welcome
I saw Sega SPM had a lot of Kantai collection figures (not interested in the anime) and found it pretty interesting how affordable they are despite how good the quality and rigging is.
I've always wanted to colleect figures but they've always seemed so expensive so i guess maybe i should check these out once i get some more money
And... as some other manufacturers, which started to make something absolutete uheard of, like... 1-4th scale around 10k JPY (bearpanda, mengxiang toys and onthers) and some pretty nice but affordable figures, like Animester with their Lilith, MoeMoeKo, Sakura bunny and couple of other figures made with doll-like eyes. Same goes to elcoco and TENITOL figures, which are at least closer to complete figure scales and still having a low price.
I'm hoping this is good for the whole market and may even result in lowering the price for all of the complete figures.
I really hope this sets the price down on the general market of figures, I would love to be able to spend just a little less 😭
My Elaina figure looks so amazing for the price, I've paid 50 bucks for worse looking figures. Although this isnt the first cheap figure I had that was really nice my Chika China dress was cheaper I think and it looks great Elaina stomping on grapes is pretty good too and a few more.
I ordered from Aliexpress 2$ Vanilla (from Nekopara) figure and 1$ Yukino figure and to my surprise they were... really not bad. I intended to decorate insides of my PC with them so it worked out well.
+1
As a Miku stan who is currently studying in Japan, ABSOLUTELY EXCITED! The only downside is shipping them all home!
0:10 the f ??? the face of cheap one look much better ?? that's wild
Personally, I think that price figures will be more popular overseas compare to scales
I’m from Australia and over here with our anime figure collecting seen they’re way more expensive than they are in Japan or America, especially for scales, inflation and stuff like that so when it comes to the market here I think price figures will be a little more popular as they’re way, more affordable to get so if someone doesn’t want to drop $500 on something that would be around 200 in Japan, they can easily just get one of the artist masterpiece ones and be just as happy at around 40 to 50 bucks
The funny thing is figure prices are onoy ridiculously expensive for a single reason.
The yen is worth gabrage compared to the rest of the worlds currency so the prices are very very high outside of japan rather when i visited a few years back i shipped back and entire crates worth of scales nendoroids and even a normally 2600 usd from prime one studios that onoy cost me 1138 usd in japan.
I would love to see cheaper figures cause I kinda want one but I’m not desperate enough to pay hundreds for them.
Is the process for making these the same as expensive scale figures? Idk is eve thing done by had or do they have like a factory line for molding
I got the Mai Sakurajima figure and it does not disappoint. Arguably much better looking the pop up parade version.
That Taito AMP+ Mai is arguably her best sculpted figure out of all the bunny versions of her. The Freeing 1/4 bunny of her just looked really off to me, definitely not worth the expensive price.
I got the elaina prize one, its pretty good
Yes please, I want to collect but don't have much to spend.
Of course since inflation and raw materials price up, the consumer behaviour will be change. Most of them prefer the cheaper alternative.
I hope they do the same for action figures . Just look at the price of figma .
Small figures with nice quality is something good when you have the $$$ but not much space.
I remember in 2010 paying 7900 yen for my Saber Lily, it would be around 30000 yen now. Like most things now, this cant be attributed to inflation, its simple greed and, honestly, anime buyers are suckers.
I'm not a figure person at all and looking at just this lineup of figures I am remindet as to why that is. I cannot bare looking all the different sizes and especially in different artstyles putting 2 of those next to one another would drive me mad. I'm gonna keep to gunpla/plamo and poseable action figues.
However for people into collecting figures I assume this is quite nice, individually they seem to have some great sculpting especially with clothing folds and little details
I got this pretty cheap figure and it cost me about 315K rupiah (about 3K yen) from SEGA (Gojo figure) and GAH DAYUM THE DETAILS. I buy the sun glasses ver with his casual cloth and I though cuz he wearing a sunglasses, I though he had no eyes till I look closely and omg his eyes detail r so cool and also their stand base are so cool. It was my very first official figure lol and it’s cheap yet so good omg (it’s Gojo Satoru FIGURIZM by SEGA and Vaistar Studio) btw I buy it at anime con who sell official merch
I thought this video was going to be about those new Chinese manufacturers like Bear Panda who are going to release scale figures at a much lower price point.
1/4 Konata - 10k yen(???)
1/6 Asanagi figures - 6-7k
currently it seems that the expensive scales are getting way more expensive. recently I had my eyes on a very fancy 1/7 but it was released for 66k yen, just insane.
Why no one really literally notice how nendoroids these days have literally barely have any accessories anymore?
Dude. I just want a figure of Index to put on my desk.
Where can I purchase AMP figures? I live in the UK.
For me Coreful was one of the best quality for a prize figure
Where can i get these
I gotta pay rent so these cheaper figures are the best i can get. I dont think they look bad lol
Copyright not protected?
is this available on AmiAmi??
God I need that mai and elaina
Once they produce fanservice (bunny suit, swimsuit, sleep wear, lingerie), it'll be a threat. Saving the costumer 100-200 bucks
One of the biggest flaws that wont ever really challenge scale figures is that it only profitable if they only do the biggest characters thatll share no matter what so they profit from mass not per figure
I think it depends on whether or not they manage to make enough PR waves in mainstream asia and international niches, cause if the pricier brands manage to supress said PR no pricetag advantage will be enough.
Also, this raises a question: if their stuff is cheaper, than either they are cutting corners somewhere or their competition has been price gouging this whole time. (or both) Which is it?
I think materials are still baseline tho, is just that the design elevates the piece significantly. Scale you in theory is getting stuff made with higher quality resin and paint.
Banpresto(Bandai Spirits) counterpart would be King of Artist (KOA) or Masterlise figure line.
over the years ive bought some cheap/fake ones and they're comparable to normal priced/real ones at like a tenth of the price. got some knock off Panty and Stocking figures that are better than the real ones i have.
I just unboxed the Mai Sakurajima from this line and....wow. An amazing figure. Makes me excited forthe Marin Kitagawa on preorder. These figures will definitely make you question the cost of some scales.
no but they will increase in price and ofc the expensive ones will increase even more
back then good quality figures were 7-9k yen now they are +20k, it's absurd
I truly hope they get more and more "cheap" figures, because paying for a good one here is totally impracticable because of the taxes
Sad that I still can't buy even those cheaper version...I'm extremely poor XD
True.
As long as the face is good and I have money to buy it's fine
I think these will gain their place in the industry, but it won't change the perception/perceived value of a true Scale Figure.
Tbh I’d pay shit ton of money for figures made from recycles plastic, even mid quality
It's the same with any product. People will buy the cheaper alternative if it's "good enough".
If the quality is lower, but the price worth the drop, then people will.
For anime figures it's subjective. Will people like the cheaper options enough?
For Bandai it’s probably masterlise series.
Does anyone happen to know why these are actually cheaper? I'm a little worried that maybe there is a difference in material quality (though I don't love PVC to begin with), or is it a matter of licensing/other fees? Or did they somehow cut labor costs? Or are regular figures just insanely overpriced because they could get away with it?
The artists are severely underpaid
@@user-vl8ck4gz6w Ouch...sad to see artists get the short end of the stick as always -_-
China: "Let us introducr ourselves with out 1/4 scale, with affordable price even 1/2" 🗿🗿
people finally starting to see that a piece of plastic shouldn't cost more than 60 bucks
I think the more expensive need to step up their game because the pictures and the videos of some reviews im just like for that price id rather get a cheap one. The cheap ones might take over. lol
i have the sakura miku
I hope this continues cause I'm a broke 3rd world country anime fan lmao and having figures are just a dream of mine
Lets all love Elaina
Im interested in what they had to do in order to produce these figures at their price point. Call me sceptical, but they look really good for that price point.
They just needed to get better artists lol and put more emphasis on design.
Cheaper materials, poor quality control, and that scales are... well... scaled while these are not. The designs are nice, but the price is definitely the price for a reason.
my ma nis spewing bullshit randomly on the internet.
nah, the real reason is injection moulding got way cheaper and 3D printers on the higher end can do magic basically. @@Tankitsu777
