Another update thanks to a commenter! Amiami 2nd is being refurbished April-July and will reopen near Radio Kaikan! x.com/AmiAmi_English/status/1753224262985678901?s=20
I’ll be there in July, I’m a scummy reseller but it’s kind of just a fun hobby. I would recommend akiba culture zone next time as they have a lasinbang there and other good shops. Awesome video though!
@@Japanismyfavorite it’s important to have resellers otherwise there’ll be a much smaller market, no different to people buying and selling whisky or wine to me, after all everyone had the opportunity to preorder at the beginning ! Have fun in Japan and I’ll checkout the akiba culture zone next time thanks for the heads up!
Having purchased a bunch of books/manga in second hand stores like Book-Off, the best part about Japan's "second hand" market is people's mentality of taking care of their stuff. It's almost indistinguishable from brand new stuff, other than obviously boxes being slightly damaged or showing signs of wear, not actually seen on the figure/product etc.
Agreed! Like the Yae Sakura figure I saw, I didn’t notice anything wrong with it, but the shop attendant was a lot more meticulous and can spot any tiny defects. Their standards for second hand is very high there
The reason for the higher prices is because some of those shops you featured in your video are resellers. Mandarake is my first stop when it comes to otaku stuff. They have stuff from over twenty years ago that are original releases. Their manga selection is also one of the biggest and more complete than most Book Off locations.
I agree. Mandarake specializes in older materials. And, if you really want to look for that sort of thing, you are much better off searching in Nakano Broadway instead. Nakano is basically an absolute maze of stores full of second hand goods of all makes and models and types. ... Surugaya is also primarily a second hand goods store. If you are interested in figures, goods, video games, art books, and such that are not just released it is a good alternative resource. Searching the stores in Akihabara is like being buried alive sometimes.
Really good video, thank you for showcasing so many figures rather than skipping quickly over them like others. We are going to Japan in September and looking forward to the anime dolls/bjds :)
Fantastic! Have a great trip! Yep I felt like every figure deserved some screen time, I would’ve shown a few more but my footage was a bit blurry for some reason
I got the Variable action heroes Whitebeard figure for like 30$ and that sucker goes for like 200$ so you can find some killer deals if you shop around. They have some stuff there that you can't find online or sometimes they just have the stuff early it is pretty cool.
had a similar experince to urs, where i found myself eye shopping more than actually shopping lol, mainly cuz stuff was overpriced ( if you know ur stuff ofc ) and the luggage space as well + plus how crowded it can get that it affect ur overall visibility, i went and ordered the stuff i wanted as soon as i landed home, i managed to snip one figure (Fate/Extella Link - Scáthach - 1/7 - Makyou no Seargent) that i like from the video as well thanks lol great vid and amazing video quality!
Thanks so much for the feedback and comment! Also great figure choice glad you managed to bring one back, I saw another guy buy a grail figure but the box was so big he actually went next door to buy a hand carry! Overall totally agree with your sentiment, if you know what you want you’ll probably not take the chance to buy it here and buy it online to guarantee you get it. Window shopping was very fun but it took two days for me to see these shops and yeh being crowded etc you can easily get overwhelmed in a foreign country. However, that thrill, of when you do spot something, especially something you can’t get online in one of the shops, it’s very fun and exciting!
I went to Amiami last Nov and was able to communicate with the Staff using English. Bought a few figures as well, the younger japanese staff most likely know English they understand it the problem is that they're shy to speak it.
Yeh I think it’s the shyness, the staff I spoke to was a bit older, he struggled with the Yae Sakura figure explanation (maybe he panicked a little trying to say the hair colour has changed) so I spoke Japanese to him to help a little. Regardless they were super helpful! I also went in Nov 2023 too
Hi, just wondering but did you visit Japan around November/December 2023? I could only tell because of the Charlotte banner ad and now it's a Chiori banner as I'm visiting for vacation. Some tips that I won't be taking advantage of but will surely be helpful to everyone: Mandarake and AmiAmi can ship within the country for much cheaper (150 JPY and 600 JPY respectively). Mandarake can do same-day shipping while AmiAmi takes 3-4 days, but no in-store pickup. Just want to let you know that AmiAmi 2nd is actually closed until April-July 2024 (moving to new location) and when I went there everything in that building was closed and dark (googling amiami 2nd closed should yield some Japanese links). AmiAmi at Radio Kaikan was great though, and I managed to snag Paimon/Raiden Shogun for close to Chinese MSRP at a Don Quijote in Ginza, though I haven't seen much anywhere else. Although pretty much no scale figures, Ikebukuro was also awesome with so many cosplayers and 7 floors of Animate Japan + Pokemon store.
Well spotted and thanks for letting me know about the Amiami 2nd shop! Yep I went in Nov 2023, Trader had some older Genshin items at that time if you’re still looking around (Klee and Ningguang last time I saw) I went to Ikebukuro too! Went to the Animate cafe for a Oshi no Ko collaboration and yep loads of anime merch at the Sunshine City, loved the Pokémon shops there
Mandarake has been my favorite shop in akihabara simply because I was only searching for older stuff which wasn’t available in all the other stores I’ve been to
Yes, I've heard several times that Akihabara became an "anime tourist trap". A lot of things are more expensive there, more difficult to find reasonable prices.
If i remember correct, usually those square boxes are rented by people to sell what they want thats why its super expensive. For cheaper 2nd hand goods, mandarake (even have an online store btw), surugaya, trader and trader 2 is my go to. Prices are usually more worth it there. I like mandarake a lot becoz you can get really good quality kuji items for cheap. Also surugaya/mandarake have a lot of stores throughout japan so if u are not planning to go tokyo, these are good stores to drop by.
Oh I didn’t know about the square boxes thanks for the info! +1 to the Trader and Mandarake suggestions, saw some really cool second hand figures there (esp the Mandarake in Osaka) Thanks for the tips!
26:38 Your "Quijote" pronunciation gave me a good chuckle, haha! It's actually pronounced "keehote" with the "e" pronounced at the end. Awesome video! Hope to see more!
Great video mate ! Trader is my go-to for prize figures, most likely to have what you're looking at the best price. Liberty (which I think you missed ?) usually also have everything but tend to be pricier. By the way, Trader will be opening a new building pretty soon, close to Don Quijote if I'm not mistaken. Otherwise, Amiami is probably my favorite shop ! Surugaya have lots of different shops, some in the streets behind the main avenue, with a wider variety and not only limited to shonen stuff. They can be a bit pricy though. There's also Lashinbang, next to where Amiami 2nd used to be. Last one that I know about, that people tend to miss because it's on the farther end of the avenue next to Suehirocho station, is Tamtam. Found some good stuff there, like the Asuka Radio Eva Part 2 at a reasonnable price.
Congrats on getting the Asuka figure! Looks like I need to go back to the holy city to explore the other shops inc Trader. I saw Liberty but just ran out of time (despite spending two afternoons here it wasn't enough), they had a lot of people that day. Ah its a shame I missed the Lashinbang, I went to the one in Osaka and it was really good! (will do a video on that), they also opened a small one in Hong Kong as well. +1 with Amiami looks like I buy most of my stuff from them in Tokyo and online too
@@otakuoverlordx I know right, you have to spend several days there if you want to thoroughly explore everything in that quest for the best deal or the hidden gem ! Looking forward to a video in Osaka's Denden Town, I love that place !
im going to tokyo next week 🥹🙌 for the first time in japan 🇯🇵🫶 can't wait to check out these shops.. and on 6:48 there was a kosaka wakamo figure.. do you know if this was on stock there? cause i searched online and this figure was sold out everywhere i looked -.-
Nice!! Hope you have a lovely trip, make sure you check out the new amiami tower as well. The Kosaka Wakamo on the video (Nov 2023) was a prototype and was released about two months later, I’ve been trying to buy her too but without luck :( However you might have some luck looking in Traders as that has a lot of post release figures, Mandarake and Lashinbang also has some older figures too, good luck!
Tamashii Nations Gundam figures are the most expensive ones in the long term due to rarity. METAL BUILD and GFFMC are crazily expensive as second-hand if you failed to pre-order them. METAL STRUCTURE is even crazier!
I did not know that!! I need to look up on this, I still haven’t bought my first PG yet but looks like I should watch out for TAMASHII Nations preorders
@@otakuoverlordx GUNPLA is mostly cheap. I am talking about the Gundam product lines from Tamashii Nations ranging from Gundam Universe, Chogokin to the high-end ones like METAL BUILD, Gundam Fix Figuration Metal Composite, METAL STRUCTURE. The high-end ones are very popular in Hong Kong and China, so that's why they get sold out very quickly. I have been hunting for METAL STRUCTURE which the pre-owned price is outrageous (always above $2000) and very rare to find brand new ones. They are much rarer than overpriced high-end FuRyu figures.
Thanks for watching! Yep I plan to do more videos on which websites to order and how shipping works, but the main one I use at the moment is www.amiami.com/eng/ which is a very safe and reliable choice!
Hi! A question about the lockers, can you lock stuff there for a long time? We land in Tokyo and we expect to buy some stuff there but then we are going to move around the country, sightseeing. I just want to know if I can leave my figures there for like 8 days or something 😂. Thanks!!!!
Oh I remember watching another video about that and you can’t leave it that long (I think max 24 hours), my advice is to use a luggage storage/shipping company like Yamato Transport (Kuroneko). I used them to not store but ship my suitcase from Gero Onsen town to Tokyo, they’re very good! Even deliver the suitcase to your hotel room! Potentially you could use them to send it to your final hotel and ask the hotel to store the luggage for a few days, I managed to do that for 4 days on my last trip with my hotel in Tokyo (just ask them before hand first!). Hope that helps!
I saw Lupusregina Beta by Alter and CZ2128 Delta by FuRyu at AmiAmi in Radio Kaikan, if you're looking for them (or any of the older maid figures) now I recommend to check out Trader and Mandarake as they stock more figures that have been released for a while. You'll probably find Entoma Vasilissa Zeta at one of the AmiAmi stores still since she just got released this month! If you want to see a review of Lupuresgina (amazing figure) or CZ2128 Delta (unfortunately I wasn't too impressed with this one) you can check out my video review ua-cam.com/video/tMfD4Fc22Y0/v-deo.htmlsi=51wJPOExXU6LkApJ&t=670
Oh I didn’t realise she has LN, I should check it out. I was a big fan of the anime, the story telling was really good and Elaina herself is never really portrayed as a ‘hero’ but as a traveller in the series. Either way I can’t wait to have the floating clouds figure!
With a few exceptions, most of the stuff in Akihabara is from Taobao, Ali, etc with 5x-100x markup. Same for don quijote stores. I don't understand why people buy anything there.
No worries! maps.app.goo.gl/5DtJsyEreWPfZif4A?g_st=com.google.maps.preview.copy they probably have new figures on display, any in particular you’re looking for?
You could look into buying Nendoroids made by the Good Smile Company, most of the shops in the video would stock this. I’d check out Amiami, Radio Kaikan and Don Quijote.
I missed it! Went to the one in Osaka (recommend visiting) but forgot to go to the one in Akiba, to be honest I would’ve not had enough time either that trip…so much to see!
You said you were a big fan of the card captor Sakura anime at 24:47 but wasn’t that the same character you said you didn’t know next to the expensive kimono quarter scale rem?
I went back and watched the footage, *facepalm* that is her, I’m too used to seeing her in her outfit. I used to watch the show on Cartoon Network back in the day.. Would you get the Good Smile figure? Looks epic
@@otakuoverlordx yeah the different outfit and no wand made her easy to not recognize lol I just thought it was funny! I never watched the anime tbh! I’m looking forward to the Skadi Scathatch figure Good Smile is supposed to be releasing in April! The Semiramis looked well done, too
Nice! Skadi looks great (really like purple tones and the detailing on her finger tips). GSC has been good with their quality control for me as well! I got the Zero 2 wedding dress figure from them and it is amazing. Semiramis looked awesome too in the shop
Hi!, I really enjoyed your video! I’m pretty new to collecting (started in January of this year) so I was curious if saving up to go to Japan and buying figures over there is worth it? Was it expensive and a hassle to take back through the airport? How do you do it? Anyways, this was a great video overall!
Heya, I would recommend going to Japan regardless, if you’ve never been it’s an amazing place and you’ll have awesome memories. If you have something specific in mind then order online to make sure you can get it, but since you’re new to collecting going to a store and seeing it in person has a lot of benefits. After all you’re spending quite a bit of money on this hobby so it doesn’t hurt to take your time! Tax free is done in the store so it’s easy, taking it on plane I isn’t bad if the box isn’t big. So those three figures I bought (which I put in the locker), I took two into the hand carry hold, actually I could’ve taken all three if I wanted to. You can put them in your check in, I did one with mine and it was ok.
One box I couldn’t fit in the hand carry or my suitcase was the Demon Rem (bought from Hong Kong), I had to put it in a card box with padding and checked it in separately
Oh one thing to be careful, Japan is strict on sharp object lengths. I had my Gundam cutter taken away because it was in my hand carry and it exceeded the length, even though it was plastic
Appreciate the time you took to respond to my question. I’ll definitely be looking into traveling to Japan. Hopefully sometime early next year. I’m currently browsing various figures website so I’ll definitely have in mind what I might like. I’ll also remember the sharp objects tip. I noticed you’re a HI3 fan, so I hope you’re just as excited about the Elysia, Durandal, and Bronya figures as I am!
And batteries! Careful there’s no batteries just in case they open to check it. Glad my answers helped! Have a good trip and yep super EXCITED with the new HI3 figures! I’ve preordered all of them!
I’m here! Top one is Azur lane Zuikaku The Wind's True Name www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-144521 Bottom is Azur Lane Shoukaku -Sororal Wings www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=FIGURE-149789 Enjoy and have fun collecting mate!
25:38 are all the figures in the display for sale? Except for the sold out ones of course. If so, do i have to call a staff over to purchase them? I'm planning on going to Japan soon and it would be nice to know, thanks!
Not all displayed are for sale unfortunately, this video was taken in Nov 2023 for context too. Was there a particular one you’re looking for? Btw from the timestamp I’m assuming you’re referring to the Kotobukiya shop?
@@otakuoverlordx Yep, the kotobukiya store, I'm not look for any specifically just wanted to know if there are there any indications to show that they're for sale. I mean i could use google translate but I'm pretty sure there are some cases where they don't indicate anything.
I’m holding back on buying figurine for many reasons. 1. I’m broke, they’re expensive 2. I need my own house 3. Need a better job 4. I need display cases 5. Save money for my studies I like them but can’t bring myself to buy them.
you're being sensible which is good as this hobby ain't cheap, tbh one of the nice things about figures is, they're like pieces of fine art, you don't have to own them to enjoy them you can just have a look
I got a question, If i went to japan and buy figures and manga in bulk will they let me take those to my home country/ wont they stop ne at the airport or smth like that
Depends on your country I guess, for most countries it should be fine (I saw on Reddit the other day someone bought 4 suitcases of figures from Akihabara, what a legend), I had 3 check in luggages of souvenirs to the UK and there wasn't any problems. I took one scale figure in the check in luggage and 2 in my hand carry. However: 1) do check if there's any sharp objects in your hand carry figures (like sharp plastic swords), they might ask to open it and inspect, I had my gundam plastic cutter taken away 2) are there any batteries in your figurine?
11:23 ah a fellow Overlord enthusiast i see.. i feel like you're a Kurumi Tokisaki fan too edit: Eminence too!?!? man we have so much similar tastes lmao
Hi five! Yep I’m a fan of Shadow In Eminence, I’ve got the new Beta figure preordered! I’m not going to get the Delta one though, the design they went with isn’t my cup of tea. I love the Kurumi figures but I haven’t watched the anime yet
Amiami and the Good Smile Company global website, they’re reliable and package the figurines very well. I actually ordered from a UK company last year and they went bankrupt so I only do those two companies now. HOWEVER, Chinese figures are cheaper with more bonus items if you order from Taobao via an intermediary but I have no experience of doing it yet so can’t advise
cool vid my dude, would really appreciate it if you could us some basic sentence to communicate with the shop attendance as I got 0 Japanese skill so far.
thanks! hmm I'm not really qualified to teach Japanese but here are some sentences/words I used (forgive me if I'm wrong): 'kono PVC figure ga arimasu ka' (do you have this PVC figure - show them a photo), 'kore wa ikura desu ka' (how much is this? - might help if you had a calculator or something for them to type the number in), 'doko de kowaremasu ka' (where did it break - even if its not strictly broken would prompt them to explain some defects). Another words that can help is 'setsumeisho' which means the instruction booklet (in case its missing) and 'hako' which means box
I went to Tokyo last month and prevented myself to buy an anime figures there and better hunting online for affordable preowned still good quality and authentic! By the way I purchased a nice PS Vita there my only trophy buy in Japan!

Amiami store and Amiami online claim to have no direct affiliation with each other but I’ve found the prices in the shop to be the same or cheaper than online store. Remember you save on shipping AND get the nice 10% tax free! It’s just that you’re not necessarily guaranteed to find a specific figure you want in store, so bear that in mind!
uhh yeah we know non-japanese folks and tourist would buy this on shelf value lol!!!.. 卍we locals know to best negotiate directly to the owner.. a few treats 10mins walk to ペッパーランチ or ラーホレ and drinks would get us LINE when they're about to unshelf cycle these..
No worries! Rita and Alpha cost 27,000 each and Albedo was 20,200, so total with tax free was 66,780 for three scale figures which was expensive but you won’t get cheaper than that online!
True just takes a bit more searching, but I spent a good 30 mins looking at Rita before deciding to buy it. I nearly had a heart attack though, they struggled to remove the umbrella rod out for ten mins and had to use a hairdryer.

More videos of this, I love it so much that it convinces me to buy more Hahaha😂
My wallet is hurting lol
I bet if the sculpturing talents ever gets to make Marvel/DC movies characters here in the US they would make a lot of money.

Hope that helps!
did you see any figure of the complete overlord pleiades set or at least cz2128 delta in there?

Reliability? People want to get what they pay for and not have a chance to get some 3D printed copy

Are there any store recommendations for miniature figurines? Maybe nothing more than 10cm / 3 inch?

it's better to regret for buying than regret not buying it
100% my philosophy has now changed!

Oh it has an English sign also, so don’t worry!
Most would say ‘SOLD OUT’

I’m holding back on buying figurine for many reasons.
1. I’m broke, they’re expensive
2. I need my own house
3. Need a better job
4. I need display cases
5. Save money for my studies
I like them but can’t bring myself to buy them.
you're being sensible which is good as this hobby ain't cheap, tbh one of the nice things about figures is, they're like pieces of fine art, you don't have to own them to enjoy them you can just have a look
I got a question,
If i went to japan and buy figures and manga in bulk will they let me take those to my home country/ wont they stop ne at the airport or smth like that
Depends on your country I guess, for most countries it should be fine (I saw on Reddit the other day someone bought 4 suitcases of figures from Akihabara, what a legend), I had 3 check in luggages of souvenirs to the UK and there wasn't any problems.
11:23 ah a fellow Overlord enthusiast i see.. i feel like you're a Kurumi Tokisaki fan too

4:54 Hey I made a mistake here, I meant to say‘the shop attendant doesn’t speak much English’ !
DAMN, thats a lot money, i would say it all worth
i think your camera lense has like dust or dirt on it 7:39 (left side theres this dark spot)
Actually that dot is there for majority of the video…sadly I only noticed near the end of my Japan trip that there was a speck of dust on my lens…sigh
So many I want...Wow
Same!
Which online platform do you recommend for overseas buyer?
Amiami and the Good Smile Company global website, they’re reliable and package the figurines very well. I actually ordered from a UK company last year and they went bankrupt so I only do those two companies now. HOWEVER, Chinese figures are cheaper with more bonus items if you order from Taobao via an intermediary but I have no experience of doing it yet so can’t advise
If you do want to know more about Chinese figures, Path To Starlight UA-camr did a video on it
Wow. I should have never cancel my stein gate pre order.
I regret it too…it was far more impressive than the photos
cool vid my dude, would really appreciate it if you could us some basic sentence to communicate with the shop attendance as I got 0 Japanese skill so far.
thanks! hmm I'm not really qualified to teach Japanese but here are some sentences/words I used (forgive me if I'm wrong): 'kono PVC figure ga arimasu ka' (do you have this PVC figure - show them a photo), 'kore wa ikura desu ka' (how much is this? - might help if you had a calculator or something for them to type the number in), 'doko de kowaremasu ka' (where did it break - even if its not strictly broken would prompt them to explain some defects). Another words that can help is 'setsumeisho' which means the instruction booklet (in case its missing) and 'hako' which means box

Are the figures at Amiami store more expensive than online retailing? Or is it worth it to buy it in store rather than pay with shipping?
Amiami store and Amiami online claim to have no direct affiliation with each other but I’ve found the prices in the shop to be the same or cheaper than online store. Remember you save on shipping AND get the nice 10% tax free! It’s just that you’re not necessarily guaranteed to find a specific figure you want in store, so bear that in mind!
